A secret engagement, a matchmaking father, and the twist of fate no one saw coming.
Bridget Monahan can't deny she's led a somewhat charmed life. As the eldest daughter of a successful businessman, she's never wanted for anything. After graduating from a prestigious college in New York, she didn't have to draft résumés or suffer through stressful job interviews. Instead she went to work for her father creating updated interiors for his hotel flipping company.
The only gray cloud in Bridget's personal sky is her father's ridiculous idea that his ex-Navy pilot protégé and his daughter constitute a match made in heaven. His less-than-tactful (and downright embarrassing) attempts to force her and Graham together have made it necessary to keep her engagement to the man she does love a secret. But it's only a temporary thing. She has no doubt about her ability to bring her father around to her way of thinking.
The best laid plans, right? When destiny shuffles the cards and deals out a new hand, Bridget finds herself questioning both her heart and her loyalties.
I'm a Georgia girl at heart if not by birth. I love to read, watch college football, and spend time with my husband. I'm a hopeless romantic so there will always be a happily ever after in my stories. I also like to write about second chances because love doesn't always work out the first time.
Hmmm....made it about half way, but had to throw in the towel. I had a really hard time connecting with this one, the characters just didn't come across as real. The book starts just days after our main character Bridget had lost both her parents...and I felt nothing from her. Which ended up being a trend, she just felt very robotic and proper. Gave "mature" responses to anything thrown at her that just didn't come across as genuine or realistic. Loses her parents, no big deal. Fiancé using her for money, no big deal. Loses her inheritance and billionaire life style, no big deal. She just takes it all in stride. Just odd. Graham was basically the same way and their conversations just lacked feeling, formal and proper. None of the characters really had a unique voice. I lost interest and skipped to the end just to see how things played out. Which was predictably.
I know others have read this and enjoyed it, so maybe it's just me. I wish I could have liked it more, but it all felt very flat.
I loved this story! The two main characters, Bridget and Graham, were so lovable and endearing. Right from the start you can’t help but root for these two to get together. Graham was a fantastic swoony hero, and Bridget was a kind and strong heroine who doesn’t let life take her down, no matter the trials she’s been dealt. I hope there are more books in this series, I loved this clean romance!
One simply can't go wrong with a Delaney Cameron book, but a Delaney Cameron audiobook? Now that's a whole different experience 🙌.
I feel like it's been a while since I've read about such a perfect hero as Graham, so the fact that Bridget wouldn't give him the time of day made my heart go out to him. Still, it was nice to see her start appreciating him more when they start spending more time together. I also enjoyed the pace of the story, and how Bridget started to realize things on her own. I loved both their passions for their jobs and their work ethics, and how this would drive them without getting to interfere with their making time for family (I loved the interactions with both Bridget's siblings as well as Graham's sister).
As for the narrator, I think she did a perfect job of bringing every character to life, be it man or woman, elderly or child. Oh, and her nuances were perfect, from curious to stern voices, from teasing to serious and everything in between, she nailed them all.
Overall, a great sweet romance read/listen with some steamy kisses but nothing further (after all, the H values waiting for marriage - still, it's not CF). Recommended ~ 5 stars
Graham is a modern version of a chivalrous knight. He doesn't just want Bridget; he loves her and so is willing to do what he can to help secure her happiness. Though not as handsome as Roman, he is far more attractive. Pretty darned swoony, in fact. 😍
Bridget is a strong woman who's refreshingly pragmatic despite being a romantic - but also a bit naive because of her wealthy and somewhat insulated upbringing. She loved her dad, and appreciated his help, but was determined to draw the line at letting him direct her personal life.
This is a sweet, gentle relationship development romance with wonderful characters that you wish you could meet in real life. You know they're going to end up together, but eagerly read to find out how they finally get there. I couldn't put it down & ended up staying up until I finished the book. I can't wait to see where Delaney Cameron takes it from here!
I am a sucker for a male protagonist who has found the woman he wants and is willing to care for her and wait, even if there's not hope, to mean something special to her.
The female character in this story is definitely the one who struggles and suffers in this book. The male has been through a similar trial as she, but not to the same extent. His focus on her is complete, but not creepy or controlling.
A very romantic, yet clean, book. There is no real drama, just a love story that we listeners get to enjoy. Sometimes it is so refreshing to be spared all the angst that can accompany romance novels.
Narrator: 4.5 stars
I've listened to Liz Krane narrate a number of books and she does a wonderful job! Whenever I see her name as a narrator, I know that I'll enjoy the narration! She has a deep enough voice that the male voices sound believable. She doesn't read too slowly or enunciate so much that dialogue sound stilted.
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
The story had potential but the characters were so making in personality. The dialogue was too distinguished to feel authentic. Not sure if the author was reading Jane Austen as she wrote this one but they just didn't talk like modern, fun, lively people so it felt like just drab, monotone and lifeless dialogues. I couldn't grasp any of the feelings of passion so I wasn't understanding their love. I did on a rational intellectual level, but not on an emotional level which is really what you want when investing in a romantic fiction. The pros are that it's a clean novel, which I very much appreciate, and it's an HEA. Like I said, it had potential and she had a great plot outline, she just didn't execute it well by not showing us much personality in the characters and not pulling out all the "feels"
I love Ms. Cameron’s novels but I have to say this one jumps to the very top. She creates a beautiful journey of Bridgett learning to appreciate, value and finally love Graham. I just love how Graham loves her at first sight and shows her in kind and quiet ways. He is a man of principles as well as sincerely caring about those he loves. The unfolding of his true character is delightful to experience. Perfect!
I found this novel so unique because it was not the usual and common story. It was extremely interesting, full of selfless love from Graham, who loved with no hope of the love being returned. It was clean! You won't be able to put it down until you're done reading it. Absolutely worth reading. A job well done! Can't wait to read her other books! Thank you Delaney.
Loved this book! It was perfect. I loved seeing how Graham always supported Bridget. Bridget was strong considering her whole life changed, we don't know exactly how she was before but it was great to see her change her priorities and to grow. If it was all about being a rich and spoiled, that wouldn't be as fun to read, although probably a nice way to live :)
This was such a sweet love story. Bridget faced family tragedy and heartbreak over a few things, she didn't allow it to break her spirit. Graham knew what he wanted I was patiently waiting for it to come to him, sometimes that's what we have to do.
I received a free copy of this from the author and have voluntarily left this review.
Bridget was engaged to a scoundrel, but she was unaware of that. Graham had loved her for years but she didn't know that either. This book reminded me so much of the movie Brigette Jones Diary. The scenario was just different. Since I loved that movie, I really liked this book. It was my first time reading a Billionaire romance and I am so glad I did, It is definitely worth the chance.
This is a sweet and charming little romance with adorable and heartwarming characters that will definitely touch your heart and soul with their beautiful journey towards unconditional love and family.
What can I say? We've all met jerks like the first guy! Graham, now there is a 'man' made to order. He sounds and reads like the dream guy in every way. I enjoyed the story, it was well done, without being too sappy.
I have read every book I have gotten my hands on by Delaney Cameron, she is a amazing writer and doesn’t add the un-needed sex scenes and bad language to write amazing stories! As usual she has knock it out of the park!
This is a very inspiring and refreshing story about Graham and Bridget. Love at first sight is hard to imagine happening. But for Graham that is what happened. This is a great story.
And the list of people, Family, children, death, friends, and a few not friends in this story. All I can say is there is so much emotion in different everyday life in this book that you cannot put it down. Enjoy.
Graham has been in love with Bridget, his parner's daugther, since he met her. When he dies, Graham must reveal the true state of her father's finances and that he is to become her half siblings's guardian. Can Graham show Bridget they are mean to be together? great audiobook and great narrator
Disappointed. If a book is characterized as “Christian”, it usually needs to mention Jesus for that to be the case. While I appreciate the book being clean and upholding morality, it needs to be under another section on Amazon.
Features: - forced proximity - former military man -the boss's daughter - love at first sight -HEA
My first book by Delaney Cameron and I'll be finishing the series! I loved it! Graham was a man of honor and Bridget was strong but willing to let him be strong for her.
I really enjoyed this story of Bridget and Graham's chemistry. They were such great characters. This is a sweet, clean romance that I didn't want to end.
I enjoyed reading this story. It was a very clean romance - good for those who don’t want to read vivid details of sexual encounters between the main characters.
This is the first book in a new series by Cameron, involving billionaires in Sawgrass, Florida. Bridget and Graham work for the company founded by her father. Graham is secretly in love with Bridget but she is secretly engaged to another man. Her father wished for a match between her and Graham, but she opposed it. Time and circumstances change her mind, though. I'm waiting for the next book in the series.
