Always seen and treated like the baby of the overprotective Romankov/Sullivan clan, Katerina may have been the youngest child, and only girl, of Alexei and Vivienne but she was all woman. Kat worked tirelessly to establish her own identity to not only become a world-renowned jewelry designer but carved her own sense of independence, despite the closeness she shared with her family. To the outside, Kat had it all. The only thing missing was…love.
She found it in Holton Brammer.
The Swede’s goal was to live a simple, drama-free life and share it with the woman of his dreams whom he’d coveted since…well, the particulars were best kept to himself. There were a few obstacles that had prevented Holt from making that dream a reality. They came in the form of her domineering father and her brothers - his three best friends since childhood.
Just when he’s finally able to overcome those hurdles, Holt’s family obligations and unknown forces turn his world inside out, threatening the safety and security of not only his peaceful life, but that of his most prized possession.
Katerina Romankov.
Now only war exists and it’s one The Woodsman is determined to win…with a little help from some friends.
Must be 18 years+ to read. This book contains scenes featuring graphic language, mature love scenes, graphic violence, s&m, m/m play, and sex trafficking.
D. A. Young is a best-selling author and lover of multilayered adventures. Food, traveling, and music are her passions. You can often find all three in the contemporary escapades she creates.
The anticipated book six of the Men of Whiskey Row Series left this reader with much to be desired. It was a good book, it just had so many moving parts. At one point I got a bit lost and confused. I was expecting a book about the love between Holton Brammer and Katerina Romankov like I got with Jack/Noelle, Darby/Avery, and Casey/Sidra.
Sometime to understand the present we must go back; however, the story didn't flow from past to present as it had in previous books.
Some words used by the author didn't fit like 'aureole' is a circle of light or brightness surrounding something, especially as depicted in art around the head or body of a person represented as holy. I think she meant 'areola' as in anatomy-a small circular area, in particular, the ring of pigmented skin surrounding a nipple.
The best part of this book is D.J. Sullivan, Sidra going into labor, Kat kicking a$$ and taking names, and Avery/Darby's not so secret pregnancy.
This book ends in suspense, well sort of. We learn who Madam Lalita is but what we don't know is how she fits into this picture.
It took me three days to read this book. Would I recommend...yes. This book is still a good read; however, it could have been better.
So this was took a while for me to get into. I have loved all of D. A. Young's books. This one was my least favorite. I felt it was drawn out and just not a favorite of mine.
I loved this series, until this last book. 😒 This, unlike the others didn't hold up. I enjoy the way Young weaves stories through the past and the present. This book however felt more disjointed and confusing.
Throughout most of the book, Kat's character wasn't maturing like the other h's did. It wasn't until the end that she was called out and she finally got it together. Soooo frustrating and annoying!
I loved the updates on the other characters within the series. Sadly, this story felt disjointed. The book moved along too slowly at times and ultimately just felt like the story dragged on with fun updates sprinkled in. Kat definitely turns out to be my last favorite h but Holt was a great H.
Another great read in this series as far as I am concerned. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I cannot wait to read book 7 which I hope will not take as long as book 6 to appear. Definitely worth a read!
Kat's story was well worth the wait. Talk about excitement and nail bitting.... I truly didn't want to put this book down. Can't wait for the next saga. Hurry hurry!!!
This was a good read. Like all of the Row stories this one was well received by me. Kat was a bit much but as things progressed she grew on me. There was too much "I am woman hear me roar." And not enough compromise in her. Maybe it was her age and with time will come growth and maturity. I hope she matures. I didn't like the dynamic between her and Holt. I liked his softer side, it was needed to balance out "The Woods man" but he bowed down too much to a princess not quite mature enough to be a queen but, there is hope. I cannot wait to see/read the evolution of Kat. I hope she and Sidra mature since they are my least favorite characters in the series. I love the connecting stories and how they weave everyone in. I love the new family editions with the babies; DJ and Ruby are my favs but I think Liam is going to be in that mix as well. Darby and Ms. Avery remain my FAVORITE couple followedby Vive and The Wolf. I cannot wait for Vivenne's next story. I'm also waiting for Guy's story. I hope he doesn't leave the Row. No breaking up the crew Mrs. Young. I cannot wait for Zo and Blaise story. I also cannot wait for Cruz to get his story. I have been waiting too long for Guy's story. I hope that one comes soon. Also, I hope we get to see how Autumn and Tucker fell in love and see if their family issues get resolved. There are so many stories from this series that I am waiting on. I hope the author eventually, sooner rather than later, gets around to telling them. Her books are so spaced out one forgets one is following a series of 2 or 3 by the time the next book drops. Anywho, as y'all can see I am a fan. I highly recommend this book and the others. Until next time, happy reading.
Story line had too much going on. Book came across unfocused with too many plot lines. Started to skip several pages at a time. Could not wait to get to end of the book. Not because of wanting to find out the ending but because I was bored. I hope the next book in the series gets back to the quality of the others in the series.
Maybe not so wise doing the audiobook of this as it took me ages to listen to and I probably could have read it in 3 days. As a majority of the book involved Holt’s Swedish family I wasn’t impressed with Morae’s Swedish accent but Sean knocked it out the park as usual.
Now for the story
I think I said last time that there were too many characters in the books, well the author said hold my drink and added even more. There were so many characters that I couldn’t keep up with who was who. I thought this book would be about Holt and kat but was more about Holt and his family. Katherine started off as a bit of a surprise revealing she wasn’t as innocent as everyone thought but went back to being the doe eyed virgin everyone thinks she is as the book progressed. I just didn’t like how her and holt were written. There seemed to be no development in their relationship. Like it happened all behind the scenes in the previous books and now we had to accept they were madly in love. Maybe they were but it would have been nice showing it but instead I felt like kat was infatuated with an older man and he was infatuated with a virgin. That was all kat seemed to bring to the table. Perhaps it was because she’d been sheltered by her father but I was surprised when she said she was the same age as Nora, sidra and Avery as they seem more mature then she does. She came across as argumentative and spoilt. I may revisit this later and read the kindle version and see if my opinion changes
Sigh!! This story was a little too much. Now, I love this author books and have read all of them. With that being said, this story felt disconnected for me. I'm used to feeling the characters and their plight, but in this story, I really didn't feel the love or connection between Holt and Katerina... more so told about their connection. This story had a lot going on within it, and I think it took the focus away from them too much. I admit that I skipped through some of it because everything felt drawn out. It may have been better if the past was in a novella prequel, so that Holt and Katerina's love could grow and feel more prevalent. It was good learning about Holt and his family and learn about his past. The ending was unexpected, so looking forward to seeing how things work out.
Holt and Kat story it was exciting and suspenseful. I would have not guessed the villain myself if I had not seen it with my own eyes. Well done Miss Young and the ending was an surprise and left me wanting more.
This is an epic. Some what long and rambling at times, sub plot after sub plot, sometimes confusing and I had to go back and reread parts to try to grasp the tie in’s. Over all not bad, but would be better broken into two reads.
I loved all of the other books. This one just had way too much going on. It felt like it had about 50 characters. It jumped around so much, confused me and took away from Kat and Holt.
I love the Whiskey Row series and have been waiting on this story FOREVER. Katerina is the baby of the family and the princess. Holt is a skilled master carpenter by trade and a killer by familial ties. All he wants is Kat and all she wants is him. This story has so many layers because on the surface it is a romance story but when you dig in honey it is family drama, intrigue, a claim to independence, babies, love and betrayal. Holt is the enforcer for his family house. He doesn’t want to be but that is his duty. The family patriarch is Ivar and he has no shame. He is cunning and ruthless and constantly manipulates the family. He finally corners Holt and has him return to Sweden to avenge a family death. Holt & Ivar do not get along but he agrees to leave for a year. Kat is pissed because they are supposed to be getting married. She strikes out to New York to work for her role model and she blossoms as a jewelry designer, but she still loves and misses Holt. They both return to the Row for the birth of baby Moira and they reconnect and get it popping. When he returns to Sweden she goes with him and things get real interesting. What I loved about this book was the layers. I loved that Katerina was a bad ass in her own right and she fought to be independent from her powerful father Alexi. I love that DA painted such a beautiful picture of Sweden with her words that you could visualize it. I was a little thrown off by Kat and Holt using “slang” but I’ll give it a pass because the book was amazing. If you have not read this series, then you are missing out on life. You should Read This Book
I’ve found another awesome series! All of the characters were well developed and I was able to finish the series (so far) in a matter of days. It’s just that good. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I could have done without this one. But it’s a means to an end to cover the last of the Romankov/Sullivan clan. There’s a lot of layers. But I think I would rather read the story of how Katerina’s best friends got together.
The Men of Whiskey Row Series is definitely one that should be in every Kindle Library! D. A. Young has done it again and as only she can, taken us on this couple’s adventure filled with comical flair and white hot sexual explosion! Holton Brammer’s and Katerina Romankov’s love story was a long time coming; The Woodsman and the Princess. Having Holt’s backstory and dysfunctional family dynamic makes everything come together. Blamed for something that’s not his fault, keeps Holt always at odds with his maternal grandfather and his oldest cousin, Otto. Their desire to break him and jealousy doesn’t diminish his honor and obligation to his family. Their antics only fortifies his strength and love for his parents Rudii/Elin and childhood friends, the Sullivans/ Romankovs. We get a closer look at Kat and what makes her the smart, intelligent, strong woman she is. As the “baby” of the family, she’s in a constant battle of wills with the smothering alpha males in her family. Her love for Holt is almost all consuming and sometimes gives her pause. But through it all, we see Kat mature even more. These two have been brewing from day one and it’s good to see them get their HEA. Good to see some of our friends from Baymoor! Tucker “Tuck” Rydell definitely needs his own story. Wonder what Alexi will do to Cruz when he finds out how Madam Lalita got copies of the wedding pictures! As usual, D. A. has left us with anticipation for what’s to come. Guy moving to Baymoor sounds like more adventure and love. Hopefully someone will put Pearl in her place and out of her misery. Looks like Vivienne has some skeletons coming out of the closet! I always knew there was a story there. Yes ma’am, Whiskey Row is on and poppin’!
WOW, Bravo, Bravo, we are not worthy "min drottning👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌
I must say that when I pick up this book, I was somewhat not as eager as I though I was going to be, reading about Kat's and Holton's story, but after a slow start, it became pretty good. All of the stories in this series were top notch, and these were awsome. Holt is my favorite alpha besides Alexi. He is it. I am a little bit partial to a man with a Thor look alike but I believe holt would have been it no matter what he looked like. While being the "woodsman" he was so compassionate,so manly, so virile, so hummy, that I personally want my own Thor from now on.... As for Kat, man, sometimes it galls me to see some people taking there very well life for granted. Kat had it all, looks, family, money, love and support, but she had todo plain about them smothering her.... Shoot, I would love to have a bunch of hunks and all smother me every single day..... She was very independent and the move she made to Lalita, I could have spank her. She lost my love there for her. How could she?? What of Holton's??? In any case, in true form of MS. Young, she not only bought everything back in full circle, she left us with a preview of what's next for the added characters in this story. Will we still have Wiskey Row, or are we moving this show somewhere else. Wonder if Blaise going to pick Zoraida up or.... How about Thea, will she be speaking Spanish soon? And Cruz, where will he be? And what happened to Guy's car window? And Mme. Lalita, who is she truly.... Man, so many new characters and new stories and coming from this author, we know they will all be the bomb.... Can't wait!!! We are not worthy, min drottning, so not worthy!!!
Let us Begin ✏️ Overall Plot Rating: 2.4/5 ⭐ Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ / Execution of Spice: 3/5⭐
Tropes/Triggers: Alpha male syndrome, touch-her-and-die, bi-racial couple, Murder, pregnancy, Sexual content(explicit), Mafia/Bratva, brutality, weapons
Format I read: Audiobook 🎧 Audio version: Dual Narration Narrators and performance: Morae Brehon: 1/5 ⭐ Sean Crisden: 4.5/5 ⭐ I find Morae's voice whiny and her inability to do accents literally makes me cringe. I hated the chapters that she narrated. Sean does great accents and his tone has more inflection, bringing the characters a sense of personality.
The Author wrote this book in a 3rd person, multiple POV, sometimes referred to as Omniscient POV. -Now, I actually enjoy switching POV between chapters, like many romance books do, but this story switches constantly even during conversations mid-chapter. Normally I hate Omniscient POV because the constant switching of POV takes me out of the story. This book was no different. And the fact that the POV changed multiple times PER chapter made the Dual Narration type for this book redundant. Would have been better off just having Sean Crisden do the whole thing in that case. It would have felt a little more manageable if the author hadn't extended to pretty much every character.
Pros of the Story 👍 - ....
Cons of the Story 👎 -I just... I had SO MUCH hope for this one. Holy and Kat were the ones I was most excited to find out about... And it just really fell flat for me. A whole lot of nothing... It had such promise D: -Sadly I just found myself wishing it were over, but I don't quit a book. My OCD won't let me except if VERY rare occasions.
In summary 📝 5/10 would maybe recommend I will not read again.
Holts aka was the Woodsman but what’s Kats - Whiplash? Whiskey Row has had some serious changes happening! We’ve got new couples, unrequited love, secret marriages, family drama, secrets, reconciliation and more. Little Romanikov has finally grown into a strong woman who has shaken the princess moniker. She stands on her own two feet, demands respect, and her voice rings loud and clear. She knows who she is and what she wants, and what she wants is Holt. Holt has denied himself the chance of obtaining the love of his life due to loyalty and bro code - you don’t touch your best friends sister! He has kept his secret feelings and desires hidden inside him for so long, and he’s reached his breaking point. I enjoyed reading about the other characters we are familiar with in Whiskey Row and the new additions to the family. Also enjoyed the storyline with Holts family and thought it was well written. I gave the book 4 stars because I felt like I didn’t get a clear storyline on the courtship between Holt and Kat. One minute he’s avoiding her like the plague in a flashback, the next he’s whispering a sexy innuendo at a gas station, then somehow fast forward their in some type of relationship trying to keep her virginity in tack. For them to love each other so deeply, I feel like I missed what built up those deep feelings. Still, it was a great read and I look forward to finding out more about Autumn and Tuck and their story, Cruz, Vivi and Lady Lalita, others.
I knew it couldn't go on forever, but it still hurts. This was a fantastic way to go though. The Woodsman was no joke! Although Darby is my BBD (book baby daddy), I think Holt's character is the bad assed-est. Yep, I said it. His dual persona is a magnificent thing to behold. He can melt the panties off his Drottning in one breath, then melt the skin off an enemy in the next. Oooo-wee...like I said, bad assed-est. His and Kat's relationship was super sweet to me. They had a fun, flirty, innocent thing going on that almost seemed like that high school sweethearts type of love. This was good and sexy and full of exciting drama. Wonderfully written with no holes or "what's going on" moments . Just a well thought out plot with yummy characters to bring it to life. I'm gonna miss this crew but I'm sure we'll see more of them in the future. I definitely wouldn't mind more Darby time, and D.J. and his antics alone needs a book. The epilogue was perfect to me, boo-hooin' BBD and all. Also the little hints at what's to come, yessss, I'm all kinds of ready. Wouldn't be mad at being sprinkled with a bit of Pixie Dust either😉. Fantastic job as usual, but I've come to expect nothing less from this exceptionally talented author.
....I FREAKING LOVE IT!!! Truth, it did take me a while to finish reading, but once the storyline picked up, I zoomed thru it til the end. I can.not.wait...for the spinoff of Blaise and Zo’s story, Pip story and heck even back to Vis’s back story. Let’s me not forget Cruz, cause his story, I can see it being just and wild and adventurous as The Ties That Bind.
I do not mind the revisiting of every character. These stories are intertwined with one another, remember that. And revisiting my favorite couple Darby and Avery is ALWAYS a win for me :D so happy for their new addition.
One another note: Hplt’s personality did feel a little different, because he was a man with little words and mysterious. Getting to know him more was steamy, but I don’t know about Kat. I think it was more so the dialogue between the two was a little too sweet and sappy and almost overbearing, but I read passed it not skipping a word.
No lie Mr.s Young took me for loop with the twists (notate that plural not singular) in this story because for once I was pleasantly surprised on both front’s. I can’t wait for the other stories and hopefully we don’t have to wait too long.....I am literally dying of thirst! ;)
I have enjoyed most of the works by this author. This is simply the worst one. The author was all over the place, with so many characters and plots with subplots within subplots that I had to use the kindle search to get a hand on the characters. The primary characters were minimal and add into the mess, was the catching up on all of the other characters. I felt no connection or enjoyment of the primary characters because the author did not spend the time to reintroduce the characters and we started the book with instant everlasting love that I simply did not buy. The author spent more time on their sexual interactions, which were over the top and not quite there, and none on the growth and development of their characters, which engages the reader. The h character was so boring opinionated and constantly preaching about how bad she was and what she would take or not take. Very unlikable and pretentious. Add into the mix, juvenile language. This was really a bad read and I had the hardest time finishing this book. Read the other books; skip this one and if you decide to read, adjust your expectations.
Finally we get Holt and Kat's story! This story is going to be a treat for your senses and you are going to love it.The writer brings us right where we left off and you hold on for dear life.Holt and Kat are so good that whenever they are in a scene they just come alive.I loved that we got to see inside Holt's world(The Woodsman) and what that means. We see Kat get her big girl shoes and its wonderful to see her character take charge. The are some laugh out loud moments that are going to just have your belly aching. There are also some pearl clutching moments and these come with a little warning. For some all the flashbacks may be tiresome but they really help. This story and give you so much insight on these characters especially Holt who has been kinda of an enigma. This was a well.written story with just a few typos but by no means takes away from the story. This was a sweet ,so so sexy, mysterious and exciting story about two very likable characters. So look forward to seeing Guys story and Cruz's please don't take to long.
Heavy handed in the different story arcs in this one, so it gets a lil confusing at times. Holt & Kat have the rockiest road to travel before they truly mesh as a couple and it is exhausting. The villains are worse than ever in this installment mimicking real world vermin to a fault. I shouldn't have but when they got their comeuppance I laughed! 😆 The sex scenes were not to my liking at all! Too graphic, nasty & long. Had to skip past them. Had they been removed from the text I would not have missed them as all the other action more than makes up for them. (It's funny how some authors in this genre can titillate and entice while others are a turn-off when it comes to the eroticism). Looking forward to Guy & Ferns' story. I guess there will be some kind of reckoning for Cruz and I hope he doesn't get kicked to the dang curb! I see where Pearls' crazy is headed and The Wolf is about to re-emerge with a vengeance. 👍
It does have a different feel towards it compare to the other books. Not a bad one, but one that you can tell was written with a whole another view towards it. And I like it. I do feel that int he earlier books there was more of a focus on the two main characters. Well this one had a whole bunch of side characters that you cannot help but want to know if there is a story for.
One main thing about this book is that it had me on the edge of my seat. I was trying to figure out who that true bad guy was and was shock when I find out. I knew it had to be someone from around the way that knew the on goings. And the history of Holt family and was in that other world view. I just couldn't place my finger on who.
I am happy with what I read. And I cannot wait to find out what is up with Guy and his relationship. Im looking forward to the next books
