Margaret Brazear was born in 1948 in London where she remained until she married in 1968. Ever since she can remember, she has always had a vivid imagination, making up little scenarios and stories. Her maternal grandmother was Romany and her first full length book, The Romany Princess, is loosely based on the stories that her mother used to recount.
Margaret started writing some thirty years ago, but family and events got in the way until she found Amazon.
Interesting premise. Girl inherits antique shop with a special room outfitted for time travel. Historian friend supports and enables said travel. It ends with the premise.
Couldn't do it. I tried. I love historical fiction, time travel, witchcraft, any sort of fantasy and sci-fi. I got through the first book about the Edward V coin, but couldn't go on.
The plot was thin where it existed. The main character was snarky and uninteresting, not smart or very resourceful. selfish and wholly unsympathetic. The relationship with her male friend immediately set to rest any idea of romance and I wasn't sure why the supporting character would even be her friend. He seemed likeable and smart, but trod upon and he didn't need to be.
History consisted of changing clothes and going for long sweaty walks while barely delving into the barely researched historical scene they were exploring.
Time travel consisted of picking up an artifact and stepping out the door. The first time was okay, the next few written with increasingly less interest on the author's part.
If you are a fan of Outlander don't even pause here.
I love the series so far except there was one mistake made in book 2. Caroline was brought back to the present from the court of Henry VIII, Caroline insisted that she go to Mass as she was Catholic..That was wrong as the Church of England was established in 1534, 2 years before Anne Boelyn died. Henry created the Church because he wanted an annulment from Catherine of Aragon and the Catholic Church denied it. So he left the Catholic Church and started the Church of England he also required that everyone at court has to denounce the Catholic faith. You could not live at the court of Henry and practice the Catholic faith. Yes it was done in secret by some but if you were caught, it would mean treason. Again, I liked the books except for this small section.
It's a different sort of time travel story, and I did enjoy it, but I never could really connect with the main character, who seems rather cold to me. Also, despite many perils and narrow escapes, it still felt like the whole process was a little too easy. I would have expected more difficulty with language, for instance, both in understanding and being understood. Still, there's a lot of (presumably accurate) history and a clever way to access the past.
Having to deal with different cultural values is interesting, and they did explore that well. I found the young cousin's reaction to being "rescued" from the time of Henry VIII quite believable for a spoiled teenager. It's easy to fall into the mistaken mindset that our ways are better, assuming everyone will think the same.
I liked the aspect if being able to travel back in time. I loved the scenes in the court of Henry VIII, as Francis Westin, one of the men accused of consorting with Anne Boleyn, is in my lineage. The 5 men were actually beheaded laying face down, using one long sword to behead them all at once. Fortunately, Francis Westin had a wife and son who survived, or I would not be here. I gave it a 4 because all 3 books took less than 5 hours to read.
I didn't know what I would find in these books. Rachael inherits an antique store, and finds she has the ability, along with her friend Peter, to travel back in time, using objects found in the shop. At first, curiosity, then the urge to find out about her family's past, have her making trips back to historic periods in history. These stories were great. Fiction mixed with a little history. Can't wait to read more books by Ms. Brazear.
was a interesting storyline in which a woman inherits a home and a Antique shop from her Aunt. The shop was actually owned by her uncle (brother of the aunt). This Audible book is 3 different adventures that the MC and her best friend ate involved in. The Narrator did a good job with the various characters voices and Storyline.
The book was riveting. I couldn’t put it down. The premise of being able to travel back on time has always fascinated me. I loved the characters of both Rachel and Peter.
The characters set the stage for this time travel tale from modern England to medieval times to Jack the Ripper. Cannot wait for more books in the series
This was fun to read, well written with research and imagination! I started out unsure but the first book snagged me. I believe there are more be interested in reading them! Well worth the time.
The combination of the main characters made it interesting. I needed more character development. The transition from one place to another was very abrupt. Should at least be a new chapter. The concept is great but needs more depth.
