Inheritance (Fragile Ties, #2)
Falling for the girl he kidnapped shouldn't have happened. Especially not Lianna Mercier, daughter of the man he hated, and heir to a family name steeped in blood and violence.
But, now she's his entire world, and Lianna's is burning down around her.
David may have lit the match that set her life on fire ...more
David and Lianna were just as dark and sexy. There was something about their relationship that I could not get enough of. I loved David in Destruction but I loved him even more in Inheritance as he has to decide what is more important - his love for Lianna or his revenge. I seriously can't wa ...more
I felt this one was certainly not quite as dark as book 1, but that in no way makes this any less of a dark romance. It is still VERY dark! It has elements that grip you and shakes you to the core as David's ...more
If anyone one line in Jennifer Bene’s newest novel Inheritance surmises it would be that. The story that leads to David being challenged by that question is really what drives this novel, and it a powerful one. David is consumed by hatred of the Faure family as much as he is by love and desire for Lianna, and yet in the end one must take precedence over the other. A person cannot live in both world’s, and David becomes a living breathing testament to ...more
David is darkness and unbending steel forged in hatred with an inner core of light that only Lianna can touch. Lianna is light and innocence forged in deceit with a steel core and a streak of darkness that reaches for his. David must go through her light to reach her darkness and it softens him along the way.
He finds himself in love for the first time and fights the darkness even though that is where he is at peace.
A new threat comes challenging ...more
Jennifer Bene is the mistress of dark, dark romance, she isn’t only balancing on the knife’s edge of darkness, but takes you past your limits and makes you crave it.
Inheritance is the second book in her Fragile Ties series and you should definitively have read book one, Destruction, before delving into this one.
The whole begins as a revenge tale: David abducts and tortures Lianna because he holds her father responsible for the death of his mother and the ...more
David and Lianna have survived the last few months since Lianna's life radically changed. That includes going through investigations, frozen assets, and having to pack up her beloved apartment. If you ask me, packing up and getting ready to move may be the worst p ...more
—>>> David has spent all his life with his emotions on a slow-rolling boil until the moment he can wreak the revenge on the family he has been taught to hate, on the one person he has chosen to bear the brunt of his family’s destruction. But once he found Lianna, his views became much more than black and white, and he did not know how to deal with the grey portions of the emotions he was beginning to feel for his captive, as she became the one thing h ...more
" Lianna was his kryptonite, his one weakness, and after all their months together he'd accepted it. She was still his obsession. His focus. Only now she was his. To protect, to shield from all the darkness.
"Well, all of the darkness except his own."
He's struggling to control her, to changed her mind and to agree with his opinions. She's slowly starting to realiz ...more
I need to start by reassuring Ms Bene that all the angst, all the heartache, all the tearing at her hair, cursing at her keyboard and despairing at her first drafts was so VERY WORTH HER TIME AND EFFORT. In fact I would go so far as to say that all her suffering, all her emotion, bled into this work and made it SUCH an emotional read. Once started, it is one of those books that you just don't want to put down until you've read every word. It's way beyond the mere 5 stars available to bestow upon...more
This book is infinitely more tame then the first book was but the darkness of the abuse just to initiate sex is still to much for me to give this 5 stars. I get that the author makes a point (more than once) that Lianna likes this dark abusive side of David but it still seems unrealistic that any woman would like that amount pain. To each their own though so I still read the book. It's good writing and story is interesting....enough that I definitely want to see how i ...more
David and Lianna live together now and she has been going through a lot since her fathers' demise. Enter an uncle, who she barely knows, from her past. David automatically doesn't trust or even like Jean-Luc Faure. Jean-Luc manipulated and therefore fixed all of Lianna's problems. ...more
Now they are living together. Although Lianna's world has crashed around her and David is still consumed with hatred of her family, they are clinging to each other. Their "game" of dominance and pain still a cornerstone of their relationship.
Ms Bene lets us see and feel the whirlpool of conflicting feelings, the desperate need, those two have for each other.
When a surprise visit escalates the turmoil of their relationship I felt right in ...more
I always knew Jennifer Bene was a prolific author with great talent, but this 2nd part Inheritance of the Fragile Ties Trilogy absolutely blew me away! I highly recommend if you haven’t read the series that you need to do so! A haunting story of lost family love, secrets, lies and betrayal. I will be waiting with bated breath for the last book Redemption in this magnificent trilogy.
A dark salacious read that sucks you in from the outset!
As long as Lianna is one of the Faure ...more

This book is the second in a trilogy, and must read the magnificent Destruction first. I think Destruction was one of the first books I read by this author, and I have been patiently waiting for Inheritance. It was absolutely worth the wait. This book is clearly a labour of love, and so much effort and angst has been put into David and Lianna, who spend a lot of energy re ...more
I don’t know if it was due to my high expectations but I didn’t like it as much as first one.
Don’t get me wrong, this book is amazingly well written and this author is one of my top favorites for dark romances. Also, Lianna and David are complex characters you can’t help but love and root for despite their twisted relationship.
However I felt like besides managing their relationship and dealing with their emotio ...more
In Inheritance both Lianna and David are trying to come to terms with their pasts, their present and their future.
The emotions from what they have lived, breathed and gone through are still lingering and come to life in a blink of an eye.
Add all that up and they have one turbulent relationship.
They are voitile together.
They are dynamic together.
They are explosive together.
But they can’t stay away from one another.
When an outside force is added into th ...more
This book was an amazing roller coaster ride of emotions. It has its ups and downs and action and suspense as we follow the lives of David and Lianna. It will bring you to tears, have you on the edge of your seat turning the page as fast as your eyes will allow you to read. It will hook you from the beginning and not let you go until well after you have finished reading The End. This book sticks with you, in a good way. Jennifer does an amazing job of developin ...more
Jennifer Bene takes the reader on a beautiful detailed emotional journey of Lianna, David and their relationship. David, he's dark, damaged and utterly ruthless.......and has only one weakness.......Lianna.
Lianna is still trying to deal with the past, with David, just everything. Can these two have an actual relationship? Or is the past too strong to overcome?
I have no clue what's happening next, Ms. Oblivious here, I'm not even gonna try to imagine what's coming in the next story.......this one was enough for now......I have ...more
So the first book to this serious had a lot of mystery, suspense, twisted erotica. This book, not as much.
Inheritance is a decent read mostly due to the author truly being talented. There was to much going on each other's head and figuring out the relationship for my taste. I also wasn't a fan on the repetitiveness of David's inner monologue.
All that aside, there were still plenty of good to this story. It is wonderfully well written, holds your interest, and has some ero ...more
