Why am I a writer? When I was a young girl, I wanted to be a teacher. I’d line up my stuffed animals in front of a board and teach them the alphabet and how to count. In high school I wanted to be a tennis player. I was on the tennis team, and played at our neighborhood tennis club. Then in college I thought digging dinosaur bones would be a cool job. It wasn’t until I was working at my own public relations agency that I decided I really wanted to write children’s books. I was so inspired by the magic of reading a book that I wanted to see if my active imagination could create magical moments for kids all over the world. I started to write, then sent my stories to publishers, and sold my first manuscript in 1992. I’ve been writing ever since.
Why I write now.
I love the freedom of being my own boss, of coming up with ideas on my own and writing that first draft to see if my idea has any spark. I’m not so crazy about the revising process although there are thrilling moments when I figure out a better way to say something, or when I nail dialog, or work through a complicated plot line. The most exciting moment is when an editor says they want to publish my manuscript. Then I know all my hard work has paid off, and that soon, children will enter my imaginative world through a book.
My niece is about to lose her first upper front tooth. I got this book to read the night of the tooth fairy. I think it will be tonight.
Cute little riff on Twas the night before Christmas. I didn't think this one work quite as well as the other's I've read. The kids have fun with these.
Written as a variation on The Night Before Christmas, this tale follows a boy as he loses his tooth and receives a visit from the tooth fairy. I read it to the whole first grade class as part of their day study on teeth (and tusks!). The kiddos especially loved the ending, where a tooth lost is actually a tooth gained.
Cute book, following along with the cadence of The Night Before Christmas. When I went to read it to my son, he'd been looking through it and said that it had good pictures. The pictures are very cute. My son really liked it and wanted me to read it to him again. The ending is very cute. While the main character and the baby are both boys, I still think girls would probably like it.
This is a very funny story. It is about a little boy who wants to meet the tooth fairy so bad. He has a loose tooth and will do anything to get it out, but when it comes down to people trying to help him get it out, he refuses. This book has great illustrations that go along great with the story. this would be a great story for pre-schoolers-2nd grade.
So when the twins are the only two kids left at the after school program, I read to them.
Today, they chose this book, and it had me smiling from the minute I started reading. Not only does it follow the classic poem almost perfectly, it really describes what it feels like to lose that first tooth.
I wish I would have read it when I was in kindergarten when my first tooth was loose.
This is a spin off of the book "'twas the night before Christmas" except this was the night before the tooth fairy was coming! This would be a great book to read if students started losing teeth.
The Night Before the Tooth Fairy is a story about a little boy with a loose tooth. He keeps trying to get it out any way that he can but it won't come out. Finally, his dog knocks him over and his tooth flies out. He gets really excited for the Tooth Fairy to come and waits up to see her. She finally comes and the little boy is mystified. She leaves him a dollar under his pillow in exchange for his tooth and he gets super excited! This book is a great book for explaining to younger children what the tooth fairy is and not to be afraid. It also talks about how exciting losing your first tooth is and how fun it is when the tooth fairy comes. Sometimes children can be afraid of the tooth fairy, so this book makes her look wonderful and so kind so that kids will not be afraid. This book also follows the pattern of The Night Before Christmas so it is familiar and will get children excited that way as well. It is a great book to get children excited about the tooth fairy and feel comfortable with what is happening. It makes them feel better and excited about the whole process about losing teeth and growing up.
My grandson just lost his first tooth so I wanted to find the perfect book(s) to celebrate that milestone. This one, along with Tallulah The Tooth Fairy CEO, were fit the bill! The Night Before the Tooth Fairy is a spin on that famous holiday poem we all know & love, Natasha Wing did a beautiful job creating the perfect prose for this special occasion. I know that my 7-year old humor-loving guy will enjoy this as much as I did.
