Sawyer's Ferry #3

Copper Creek

Rate this book
Frankie:

My life sucks.
After spending a year jobless and on the edge of becoming homeless, I’d officially reached a level of desperation that, even if I wasn’t completely broke, retail therapy couldn’t fix.
While Sawyer’s Ferry, Alaska, is the last place on earth I’d ever want to visit, when my best friend, Holden, begs me to fly out and plan his wedding, I can’t say no. What I didn’t expect was to stumble into the administrative chaos at Copper Creek Brewing—or its too-hot-to-be-legal owner.
Clearly the man needs my help, and I’m willing to go above and beyond.
Way beyond.

Barrett:
I am screwed.
Six months after my assistant up and quit, I’m not any closer to finding a replacement, and things at the brewery are starting to fall apart.
And then in walks Frankie. He’s not the typical guy you’d find in these parts, and he brings with him a world of confusion. Because as much as I need his help, I can’t seem to keep my eyes—or hands—off him.
He’s supposed to be getting my life in order, but instead there’s a chance he could turn everything upside down.

Let's talk about Frankie and Barrett and how much I'm loving Cate Ashwood's Sawyer's Ferry series. Next on the agenda: a cruise to Alaska. It's been FAR too long since I visited.

Copper Creek is so much fun, not just because of Frankie and Barrett and their sizzling opposites-attract chemistry but because we get to visit with Gage and Holden again, and they're getting married!

That's why Frankie is in Alaska—to plan the wedding (sort of; it's really just a ruse to get him on a plane so he stops moping around, jobless and depressed, in New York).

What Frankie doesn't expect is Barrett, who's built like a freakin' gorgeous mountain of man muscle. Barrett is drowning in paperwork. Fortunately, it's Frankie to the rescue! Frankie is an administrative assistant extraordinaire after all. He gets Barrett's systems in tip-top shape. Then he sucks Barrett's dick. For free.

Alas, this is one hell of a sexy story, but it isn't just sex: it's lighthouses and spa days and Frankie dancing.

I got a kick out of both MCs and really enjoyed the opposites-attract trope. I mean, could these guys be any more different?

Barrett had only ever dated women before and freaks a little about his newfound bisexuality. He is burly and brews beer and can't imagine leaving Alaska.

Frankie is all sass and sparkle. He's always in motion, always doing something. He loves warm weather, big cities, fancy purses, and mud baths.

But somehow Frankie and Barrett fit. There's no undue relationship angst in this book. The ending is warm and wonderful. I was super sad when the book ended.

My one (minor gripe): I wanted more details in the epilogue, like did Frankie move in with Barrett? Was he going to continue working as Barrett's admin? I didn't need every box checked, but I was left trying to fill in too many blanks.

Conclusion: I adored this charming, romantic story! MORE hot men in Alaska, please. And thank you.

Oh that was just beautiful, not perfect and less good than I had hoped, but for the ending alone .... I am still swaying, that was so cute and romantic.
Frankie, as expected, was a very captivating personality. I would have liked to see a bit more of him, a bit more of his artistic side and style.

He was always beautiful, even with bed head and morning breath, but when he was dressed and his hair was perfectly styled, wearing just a hint of eyeliner and lip gloss, his demeanor changed. He stood up taller, his back straighter, and there was a fluidity to the way he moved. I liked seeing that transformation, from a subdued, relaxed brat, to a ready-to-take-on-the-world pain in the ass. 🤩🤩🤩

Barrett I had somehow imagined to be a lot more. It's always stupid to have such high expectations, but well, they are there. I would have hoped he would come out of his shell sooner, but then the ending wouldn't have been as awesome.
Overall, like the books before it, a light quick book. And also a bit of hotness …

If he fucked the way he kissed, that might actually kill me, but I’d die happy. 🔥🔥🔥

Nice to see Holden and Gage's wedding as well, though they were rather distracting. I would have liked more alone time for Frankie and Barrett.

I loved him. How could I go on living like that didn’t matter? How did I hide myself away in Alaska and pretend that half my heart wasn’t a whole continent away? How could I live with myself if I didn’t at least ask? 💔💔💔

This was a very sweet story and a great addition to this series that I have really been enjoying.

Frankie and Barrett have such a sweet relationship. They have such a great connection. The chemistry was off the charts with these two. There were so many sweet moments and some funny ones as well. I loved how they just accepted each other. They let each other be. Frankie with all his sass and Barrett with his quiet charm. I just really liked them together and was so happy Frankie got his HEA.

It was really great to read about Holden and and Gage's wedding. It was described beautifully. Loved that.

Happy reading dolls! xx

This was such a sweet, sexy, low angst read!

"Frankie," he whispered, his mouth against my sweaty skin.

"Mmm."

"I had no idea..."

"Me either," I admitted, because it was true.

I've loved Frankie since I met him in the first book and I'm so glad that he got his story.

Frankie and Barrett were the perfect combination of sweet and sexy. They fit together easily.

I absolutely loved Frankie's confidence. He is who he is. No apologies. His friendship with Holden was amazing. Just the best combination of humor and snark with a boatload of affection in every interaction. You can tell these guys truly love and support each other.

Frankie felt so real. A guy who's in a major transition in his life and trying to figure out where to go next. I love how easily he befriends people. His love of the finer things in life was absolutely charming! I do wish, however, that there was more development about his love for photography. It felt a bit "thrown in."

Barrett, while I loved, felt underdeveloped. You don't really get too much about him. Some background information on his previous marriage and why the relationship didn't work out, but that's it. There's no real depth to him. He mentions family, but we know nothing about them. Does he visit them? Do they have a good relationship? How would they feel about his bisexuality?

There are a few drive-by statements that he was kind of attracted to men before, but there was no deep dive into what his history is with his feelings about his sexuality. He also jumps in with both feet with Frankie after only a couple days of fighting his attraction. He hid his relationship with Frankie from the world, but was so openly affectionate with him too. So the conflict felt there, but not there at the same time.

I absolutely adored how sweet he was with Frankie. Their trip to Juneau? Sigh...so wonderful.

And the lighthouse? THE LIGHTHOUSE?!?! All the romance reader happy sighs.

But I do have to rain on my parade here and say that I absolutely LOATHED the time jump in this book. It felt so rushed, so forced, and like a cop out. I think I may have been more on board with it if we got, what I think, would have been a pivotal scene between Frankie and Barrett The exclusion of that scene is such a disappointment and such a missed opportunity to really add some emotion in the story.

Overall, though I had some development issues with the book, I also had a very hard time putting it down.

There was such an ease to Frankie and Barrett. An inevitability that I loved watching.

Right from the start, I’ve been a fan of this “Sawyer’s Ferry” series written by Cate Ashwood, an author that nicely works for me. It almost makes me wish to be living in this small Alaskan town full of very sexy and hot men (well, almost because me and cold weather…not really, LOL).

Technically, it’s a standalone, but not really as each new addition keeps featuring the previous characters : it’s so good to come back to this place, with his inhabitants and atmosphere and to enjoy the burgeoning of a new relationship while being comforted that my previous book-friends are still nicely matched.

In the first book of this series, I had a very good time with Frankie, an endearingly sassy character, the very efficient PA of Holden’s father in New York. He likes his clothes and nail polish, having a good time in the Big City but being jobless for more than a year is getting a toll on him and going to Alaska for a couple of months, if not dreamy, is a nice change, as planning the wedding of his friends is.
So here he arrives in this remote place where, hello, he can’t help but check out and teasingly ruffles the feathers of Barrett, the sexy and burly owner of the Beer factory.
A couple of months, and more, that make it clear that they fit very, very well together, despite being so different.

It was fun, it was hot, it was swooning - yes, I’m such a sucker for characters eagerly diving in, even though it’s new territory. Geographically for Frankie and sexually for Barrett. They care for each other and their HEA is proof of it.

I can say with certainty : at Sawyer’s Ferry, the ice melting is not due to global warming, and in a reading world, it is not a disaster, quite the contrary ! Keep with the burning sheets, dear author.

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful.

Cate does it again! This was almost perfection and I pretty much loved it.

description

Sawyer's Ferry is becoming my favorite small town to visit and this visit was the best. I loved, loved, loved Frankie and loved, loved, loved Barrett.

These two boys couldn't have on the surface looked more wrong for each other but in reality were perfect for each other. I loved that even though Barrett, understandably, had some reservations, when he was with Frankie there were none. He was into him and he wanted him and he showed it. I have no issue at all about how any of it went down. It was believable.

And Frankie. Well, Frankie is just the type of character you can't help but fall in love with. He owns his identity and is completely honest about everything. He is refreshing.

My favorite, favorite, favorite part of this book though was the Lighthouse. I am so glad that Cate didn't take that away from Frankie and Barrett. I wanted it to be theirs and theirs alone.

My only real complaint, and I don't know if it is a real complaint because this book really made me so happy, is the ending. What happened? What is Frankie doing now? I feel like I just needed a few more words letting me know how it actually is working out for them because, well, how this book ended was HUGE!

I can't wait for my next trip to Sawyer's Ferry!

Utterly delightful romance sees Frankie get his Happy Ever After

I do like this series from Cate Ashwood, it's a nicely paced and well developed setting which feels like the kind of town you'd like to settle down in.

I've been wanting Frankie's romance since he first arrived in book one with his sass and attitude but he surprised me by being a lot less diva and a lot more really sweet guy.

Bennett was just my type, brooding but with a heart as big as the ocean and I loved how, after his initial quibble, he went all in with embracing his attraction to Frankie.

Great to see Holden and Gage again too, only a brief peek of Jackson and Logan sadly :(

This is a seriously fun, no dramady entertaining narrative that made me smile lots.

Loved the epilogue too.

This one might just be my favorite of the series.

I loved Frankie's snark and sass. He was a bit forceful with Barrett, if you will. He wasn't going to take no for an answer - gay, straight or bi.

But I really liked their chemistry together.

And I liked that there was no unnecessary drama.

This has turned out to be a really fun series. And I have been DYING for book 4 ever since reading that TEASE - Laguna.

Sawyer's Ferry has given me much enjoyment so far and let me tell you, I couldn’t wait for Frankie’s story. Frankie has a bold and vibrant charismatic pull that draws you right into his orbit. He’s a brat but he knows it. He’s high maintenance and proud of it. But he’s also hard-working, loyal and full of love. His life was flipped upside down when his boss was arrested and his career flew out the window. Starting over brought more challenges that he expected and his previous life of luxuries are becoming more of a fantasy with each passing month. At this rate, he may never reclaim his reality. Living with his cousin was working until it wasn’t. He doesn’t know what to do. Quite simply, he’s lost. Then his bestie comes to the rescue and proposes Frankie tackle the impossible; Holden wants him to plan his wedding in just under two months. Of course, spending the summer in Sawyer Ferry is required to undertake such a tall order. That certainly wasn’t something Frankie thought he could bear, well, that is…until he stumbles into Barrett. If he thought his life was a mess than Barrett’s is a complete disaster. If he’s going to be stuck in this forsaken land he might as well have a little fun. And since he can’t seem to tidy up his own problems, why not shipshape Barretts? Frankie discovers some messes are endearing and every once in a blue moon, disasters can be beautiful.

What's to like: It was great returning to Alaska. Frankie might not be a fan of the mighty magically wilderness, but I am. I was also thrilled to see Gage and Holden. And a wedding? Who doesn’t like weddings? Gahhhh! I love weddings. Barrett was a splendid addition to the cast. I enjoyed his brewery and his fabulous team. I found this secondary crew a strong compliment to the lovely main core characters. Cate delivers great humor and snark as well as tender and kindhearted moments. What I enjoyed most of all was how Barrett and Frankie evolved and eventually fell. Which brings us to….

What's to love: Barrett was exactly what Frankie needed and Frankie was exactly what Barrett needed. I love it when two disoriented souls find their missing link and course for a new path. I love it when love smacks you in the face, completely unexpected and possibly even unwanted. I love it when two people poles apart find their peace and contentment with each other. I love startling surprises. I loved how they challenged each other. I loved their courage, determination, and…spunk. I guess you could say, I just loved them.

Beware of: An alluring seduction that ends in victory. A cheeky city boy brought to his knees by a simple mountain man. And an opposites-attract tale with a very satisfying ending…okay, okay, I’m hoping it’s not totally over. I’m very much down with seeing them again.

This book is for: Sawyer's Ferry fans, Ashwood followers, and anyone looking for a fun, sexy and swoony story.

We first met Frankie in Holden's story (Alaska: Sawyer's Ferry #1) and I have been waiting for this smart, sassy, awesome character to have his own story.

I am so happy with this book!! Frankie absolutely gets the story (and man) he deserves.

Frankie arrives in Sawyer's Ferry to plan Holden and Gage's wedding, but when he meets brewery owner Barrett everything changes. Barrett and Frankie have an instant, and intense, connection. Frankie and Barrett are each everything either man ever wanted in a partner, but Barrett's never acknowledged his bisexuality to the town and people he's grown up with and Frankie is determined to go back to New York City - so they definitely some speed bumps to cross before they get to their happily ever after. Along the way there's some awesome banter, a beautiful wedding, a little heartbreak, and a very happy ending.

Dual POV, steamy, funny, great banter, and a wonderful HEA. I love this series and cannot wait to see where Cate Ashwood takes the characters next.

Frankie is a New Yorker with lots of sass he is use to the big city and loves everything about it. However, his life is a mess. His former employer was arrested for fraud leaving him without a job and very little prospects after. To top it all off he is being kicked out of his cousin's house due to a baby being on the way. So when his friend Holden calls him to come to Alaska and help him plan his wedding, in 2 months, Frankie, although a bit hesitant, does.
Barrett is the owner of a Copper Creek brewing company. He has firm roots in the small town of Sawyer's Ferry, Alaska that not even his former wife could get him to leave the state. With Barrett's last office administrator leaving his work space is a mess. However, that all changes when Frankie Bell comes into his life.
When these two get together sparks don't immediately fly. In fact, Barrett struggles with his reaction to Frankie. Were as Frankie knows what he wants and is not afraid to go for it. When they do hookup the first time Barrett avoids Frankie for a week until something inside him clicks. Frankie and Barrett starts seeing each other on the down low. Since there is a time limit on how long Frankie will be there they do not feel the need to share especially since Barrett is not out. The problem is these two were never expecting their feelings to grow so strong. With the time limit looming of Frankie's departure these two struggle with expressing their feelings. Will they figure out what they truly want and go for it or will they let it slip away?
Overall, a nice cute read.

I enjoyed the first book of this series, Alaska (with Holden and Gage), but wasn't impressed with the second book. However, I love the idea of romance sets in Alaska so much, I decide to take a chance with this one. Who knew that Frankie's book ended up as my FAVORITE of this series so far!

It really surprised me because Frankie was a bit too much for me in the first book. I couldn't deny that Frankie and Barrett sizzled in this one, mostly due to their opposite attraction. Frankie is the 'flamboyant' one, high maintenance, but he's also VERY secured in his own skin. Frankie knows what he wants and he just doesn't give a damn. I loved that about him. Barrett is more reluctant, never acted on attraction towards same gender before. However, they just CLICKED.

I loved every steps taken towards their romantic relationship. Even if at first, it was supposed to be temporary, since Frankie visited Alaska only to plan Holden and Gage's wedding. The scene before the ending chapter was making my romantic heart sighed in happiness. The ending chapter was lovely too.

I really hope if this is the final book of the series, there's going to be an update of sort with Frankie and Barrett. I want to see them in the 'future' together :)

I loved this installment. From the beginning it was shaping up to be as good as the first book and I was super happy. The last book wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be and I was a little cautious going into this one, worried it also wouldn't be so good.

But I needn't have worried, because Frankie and Barrett had great chemistry from the beginning, and I loved all their scenes together. I was wondering how Frankie's story was gonna go and how he would ever get to Sawyer's Ferry.

Frankie was the executive assistant of Holden's father, but it's been a year since he was arrested and Frankie lost his job, and things haven't been going great for him. Even tough he had nothing to do with the crimes of Holden's father, people were still very much reluctant to hire him. He's in a rut, but he's still maintaining he's not going to Buttfuck, Alaska - his words.

But Holden manages to convince Frankie to go out to Sawyer's Ferry to plan his and Gage's wedding, and given the fact that Frankie's cousin is asking him to leave the house, given she and her husband have a baby on the way, Frankie gives in an goes to Alaska.

He expects to absolutely hate it, but when he goes around town as he starts the planning for Holden and Gage's wedding, he stops by Copper Creek to ask about alcohol for the wedding, and runs into Barrett there - who he had met briefly at the bar a few days prior - and as they're trying to sort out a contract for the wedding, Frankie sees the sorry state of Barrett's office, because Barrett's previous admin had left 6 months prior, and so Frankie says he can do it and clean up the office and get everything in order, and so Barrett hires him temporarily.

It doesn't take long for the attraction to come to a boiling point, and in a very hot scene, Barrett gives in to Frankie, even though he freaks out immediately after.

Because Barrett has only been with women before Frankie, and although there has been passing attraction for men, he's never met any guy he actually wanted to have sex with. But Frankie is different, but Barrett still needs time to wrap his head around it.

I was so happy the sex was so good in this one, and the chemistry shined through. Frankie and Barrett was so passionate together, and eventually loving as well. Sex scenes for some authors can be a hit or miss - and unfortunately in the last book they were mainly a miss - but thankfully they were a hit in this book.

The small bit of drama at the end made sense, and I think the time apart was good for these two to realize how much they wanted each other and loved each other, and also for Frankie to be okay with not living in New York and actually living in Alaska. Better to be gone and realize what you really want then staying and coming to resent it because Frankie thinks his life would be better in New York. Better that he experienced life in New York without Barrett to realize that wasn't true.

Overall a very good book that I was super happy with. Can't wait for Beck and Brody's book next, I'm hoping it's really good too!

Fabulous, fluffy fun!

I enjoyed this way more than book 1, and I think that this is mainly down to Frankie, who is the epitome of a sassy, femme, flamboyant guy with a huge talent for snark and banter. You can imagine how he shakes up a place like Sawyer Ferry which is in the middle of nowhere in Alaska, far far away from any civilization (his words, not mine!)

It’s not only the place he shakes up – Barrett takes one look at him and his world goes kaboom! He hasn’t really faced his bisexuality up to this point. So is this insta-lust? Maybe a wee bit, but it’s more of massive attraction at first sight – on both parts! And it is so well done!

This is romance at its best. Frankie and Barrett dance around each other, flirt, banter until they simply can’t keep their hands off each other any longer. Most of all we get cute, sweet without an overload of sugar and lots of feels.
Just how I like my light romance!

Problems for the guys arise via Barrett’s reluctance to ‘come out’, to himself and other people, and the fact that New York and Sawyer Ferry are pretty much on the other side of the planet from each other.

But don’t worry – the angst and drama are low, and things get resolved pretty quickly (well 3 months is quite a while, I guess) and without too much heartbreak.

A perfect heart-warming book for a rainy day!

Sawyer’s Ferry has been a great place to visit, and never leave, since Holden got there in book one. So I’ve been anticipating Frankie, ex-employee of Holden’s dad, showing up. I saw a tweet today that sums up who Frankie is, edited for Amazon sensibilities, since they reject reviews with the word G-A-Y, *insert eyeroll & side-eye*:

“reminder: it wasn’t the masc4masc G-A-Ys who normalised homosexuality in society it was the over the top, flamboyant, BRAVE G-A-Y men who dared to live their authentic selves regardless of what society said. we owe what rights we have to femme G-A-Y-s...”

That’s Frankie’s character in a nutshell but he has a vulnerable center that craves and caves to newly Bi-for-him, closeted Barrett. I liked Barrett though he struggled a little in admitting it to himself but then he was all Mr. Romance and so sweet with Frankie. Except both assumed an end date and they never discussed any possibilities. Which was a little annoying but did allow for an uber-romantic, grand gesture. I feel like some development was missed in spots, leaving the narrative a little thin when it came to things like Barrett’s internal decision making. Still, it was engaging and humorous, happy and utterly squishy sometimes, including the view of Gage and Holden’s wedding. It can be read alone but it’s much better to get a feel for the Alaska setting and the first two stories are great anyway!

Frankie and Barrett.

Frankie is going to the cold Sawyer’s Ferry, Alaska. Holden and Gage (we know them from earlier reads of this series, all stand-alone) asked Frankie to organize their wedding.
Beside this wedding he also works there for grumpy Barrett, owner of brewery Copper Creek.

Two opposites, Frankie out and proud gay and Barrett straight and unknown of his preferences.
They fight and argue and are also very attracted to each other. Barrett can’t resist the frivolous Frankie. When they finally start something it’s the most delicious lovely relationship.
Frankie is only for a few months in Alaska and will return home soon, he doesn’t want to go but Barrett doesn’t ask him to stay.

I love this story. Engaging way of writing. Awesome characters, I adored Frankie and wanted to shake Barrett awake. The sort of redeeming was heart melting.
The scenery was really well described, the trips they went to were great. All the emotions were palpable. Captivating, endearing, heartbreaking, this all made it into a wonderful lovely journey.

AHHH Barrett and Frankie are a great addition to the series. It's true opposites attract and people are willing to change so much for love. Frankie and Barrett are no exception they are the rule. They fall in love after Frankie comes to town to work on Gage and Holden's wedding but what he ends up doing is changing his life and Barrett's. There is so much good here. Knockout chemistry, hot sex, and sweet, sweet love.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Copper Creek is my very first introduction to author Cate Ashwood and I enjoyed her writing very much. This is the third book in her Sawyer's Ferry series, but they can be read as standalones.

Frankie is at an all time low, jobless and soon to be homeless, and even though Alaska is the last place he wants to be that's where he finds himself. Two months in the middle of nowhere to plan his best friends wedding. A few days in, and he finds himself doing office work at the local brewery and his boss, Barrett, just happens to be just his type. Barrett's only ever been with women and his strong feelings for Frankie are messing with his head. Their connection is undeniable but there're many factors working against them so is it something worth fighting for when Frankie's two month stay comes to an end.

"there was something between us, some sort of chemical connection that pulled him to me just as intensely as I was drawn to him."

Frankie has a loud and proud personality and embraces who he is. He's a bit high maintenance and whiny, but he quickly grows on you as Barrett brings out his vulnerabilities. Barrett is his opposite with his lumberjack gruff and grumpy appearance. I understood Barretts confusion but my heart hurt for Frankie every time he ended up burned by Barretts reactions. But whenever they were alone together, and they felt free to ac on their feelings and desires they were perfect together. Barrett was sweet and thoughtful with thinking of things that Frankie would enjoy doing and the sexual chemistry was explosive.

"How was it possible that I wanted to simultaneously run as far as I could from him, and hold him down and kiss him until he couldn't breathe."

In the end, Copper Creek left me with a smile on my face and a few books to add to my to be read list. I can't wait to meet more of Cate Ashwood's fantastic characters!

"How is it possible that you're so goddamn beautiful." he murmured, leaning in to kiss my throat."

This just might be my favorite of the whole series thus far. Despite a shaky start, where I wasn't too sure about Frankie (he was a little too whiny and self-absorbed), I really did come to like this couple. Frankie is my favorite kind of character usually - ones that are sassy and speak their mind - and once he got over himself, he really delivered. Barrett was a quieter but solid character. I'm not sure it could be read well as a standalone, but I liked seeing more of the other Sawyer's Ferry couples.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I was over the moon when I found out Ms Ashwood was writing Frankie's’s story, it was begging to be told. After he appeared in book one of the series, I’ve wanted to know more about him. I was not disappointed. I absolutely loved this sassy, sexy and sweet romance.

It amazes me how much Cate can pack into her stories. I loved the romance between Frankie and Barrett. Frankie is a great character, I reckon that he's likeliest the strongest character of the series so far. Also, her descriptions of Alaska are perfect, it almost feels like you're there.

Barrett is held back by his own limitations, but when he accepts Frankie into his life...Boom! I loved the interactions between the two of them, Frankie is fearless, he sees what he wants and goes after it. I almost felt sorry for Barrett, he didn't stand a chance. I found their story quite poignant and, ultimately, charming.

I was so happy Frankie got his HEA because nobody deserved it more and Barrett couldn’t have been more perfect for him. Opposites certainly do attract. Go Frankie and Barrett. Loved the ending.

i liked this one ... it was a nice story with fun characters. Frankie was great - I loved the way he just was himself and did not give a second thought about what the others thought about him.

Barrett was a good guy and took his revelation about himself without a lot of panic - which was good to read.

all in all a good read

(as I read only this one in this series, I can say, they are stand-alone novel)

3.5 stars- Some bumps but I do so enjoy this series

I’ve loved Frankie’s character since we first met him in Alaska, the first book of the Sawyer’s Ferry series. I was also intrigued by local brewer Barrett, so I was very excited to see that Copper Creek involved two of my favorite secondary characters from the series. Despite the character overlap, this book can standalone should you wish to jump right in or read out of order. Overall, I enjoyed Copper Creek, I really loved the characters and the fun, sweet, and hot romance between them.

Frankie and Barrett made a great opposites-attract couple and I loved how they were together, teasing yet so supportive. I also loved that Barrett appreciated all facets of Frankie, even before they were together and how that spilled over to him planning outings together. In those aspects, the romance and connection was evident, even though their relationship remained secret and Barrett closeted. Unfortunately, the underdeveloped parts of Copper Creek almost flat lined the book for me in a few scenes. The gay-for-you or out-for-you trope can be tricky to navigate, and I need the attraction and all characters to be fully developed or it feels like I’ve missed something or, as in this case, the characters come across as overly pushy and presumptuous (a major reason why I read less m/f romance these days). Happily, things did develop and we got a few answers further into the book, and I ended up enjoying Copper Creek. I think had there been more background on Barrett first, before Frankie and he got together, their first few physical interactions wouldn’t have felt so forced.

I really enjoy the Sawyer’s Ferry series and definitely would recommend it with the caveat that these romances all have a touch of the insta-love bug to them. That said, the writing is great, with an easy quality and fun dialogue that brings the characters and town to life. If you’re looking for a series to make you smile, this one’s it.
