Pig the Pug is causing havoc and hilarity as he travels around the world. Pig was a Pug and I'm sorry to say, when he went on vacation he'd cause great dismay.
Everywhere he goes around the globe, Pig the Pug offends the locals and causes destruction and devastation. However, in the end, Pig's rudeness comes back to bite him...
Rich with author-illustrator Aaron Blabey's signature rhyming text and unforgettable illustrations, Pig the Tourist is a laugh-out-loud story that follows the six previous books in the series (Pig the Pug, Pig the Winner, Pig the Elf, Pig the Star, Pig the Fibber, and Pig the Stinker).
Aaron is an Australian author of children's books and artist who until the mid-2000s was also an actor. His award winning picture books include Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley, The Ghost of Miss Annabel Spoon and the best-selling Pig the Pug.
In the field of acting, he is probably best known for his lead roles in two television dramedies, 1994's The Damnation of Harvey McHugh, for which he won an Australian Film Institute Award, and 2003's CrashBurn, before retiring from performance in 2005.
The theme of this story is respectfully travelling through other countries and respecting other cultures. So a very topical book for children but done in that Blabey style that only Pig could convey without making your child feel like they're being talked down to.
Pig the pug is a mischievous dog. Everything is about him, he's selfish, demanding and totally out of control. Arron Blabey is my favorite children's author he's incredibly talented and is the number one author that I get asked to read at storytime.
Aaron Blabey is a favorite in our house. This one had some impressive vocabulary!
…a blizzard of chaos and foul disrespect… Unbridled and vast was his need to offend…his insensitive antics…absolute devastation….that appalling yahoo
When I write it out like that it doesn’t sound like a nice character for a kid, but Pig learns his lesson, again and again, and you really got to love him.
Tonight’s read. I gotta say, this book brings me an unbelievable amount of joy. Such a good lesson about respecting the culture and homes of others. The drawings give me the giggles, and my goodness is it good…oh, and my 3-year old likes it too lol
First sentence: Pig was a pug and I’m sorry to say, when he went on vacation he’d cause great dismay.
Premise/plot: Pig the Pug has his own series. It is a long series. Blabey is kept busy writing this and other series. The story is written in rhyme. In this adventure, Pig causes trouble, trouble, and more trouble.
My thoughts: I am not a fan of the series. I think the illustrations keep me from actually enjoying the books. The text is enjoyable enough. For little ones that do love the series, that do love dogs, that do like comic mischief...this one will probably be a hit.
Continued adventures of Pig. This time readers see how naughty he is when they travel. Poor Trevor continues to be his friend and endure the disasters too. Readers will love Blabey's latest story about this pug who has so much to learn.

This is our first Pig book. We have read a good chunk of the Aaron Blabey Bad Guy books and most have not disappointed, I think the humor expectation was too high.
Pig the Pug is back and dare I say it, better than ever.
Everybody's favourite little destroyer, Pig the Pug is continuing his adventures in this latest release from bestselling author Aaron Blabey. This time Pig and his family are headed overseas and around the world on what is meant to be the most epic of holidays ... but Pig, being Pig, things never turn out the way they are intended.
I love everything about Pig the Tourist. From Blabey's adorably quirky illustrations to his highly entertaining rhyming narrative. As an adult, I find this book has the most hilarious little innuendos and metaphors making it the perfect book for an adult to read to a child over and over again. There is just so much going on, kids and adults of all ages are going to love it!
The fun starts right with the endpapers this time as we learn that Pig has defaced poor Trevour the Dachshund's international passport. Keen-eyed readers will also note the Piranha from Piranhas Don't Eat Bananas featured on the title page instead of Pig and Trevour. Right from the get-go, this caught my attention and made me smile. Blabey was up to something, and it didn't disappoint!
As usual Blabey's illustrations are comedic, colourful and larger than life. Featuring a mix of double-page illustrations with white and full-colour backgrounds, his images capture your attention and make it incredibly hard to look away from the chaos that Pig leaves in his wake.
When the book opens, Pig has escaped his cage and is causing all sorts of mischief as Trevour looks on bewildered from the safety of his own cage. Over the course of the book, we see the most amusing holiday 'snapshots' as Pig causes havoc everywhere from stealing the hotdog stand in New York, to writing his name in pee on a polar bear in Antartica, to destroying ancient wonders of the world in Eygpt, to upsetting the locals in Japan, China, Australia, France, Italy and England. He makes international headlines when he bawls over the Queen of England and topples the leaning tower of Pisa before finally getting his comeuppance in the murky waters of the Amazon with the Prihana's.
Although I'm extremely biased here my favourite pages have to include the Australian page where Pig has doughnuts for ears and is wearing an 'I'm a Koala' sign around his neck. I laughed out loud at this one for longer than I am willing to admit. A close second being the African stampede ...
Blabey's text is suitably humorous, educational and just damn smart. He never breaks his rhyme even when subtly explaining to readers of all ages the need to be respectful of other cultures, customs and places of interest.
Best selling author, Aaron Blabey keeps getting better with each and every book, and it's no surprise that this book is selling out quicker than you can say Pig the Tourist! His characters, settings, and story are spot on and I can't wait to see what Pig gets up to next time.
Pig the Tourist is an absolute hoot for readers young and old; I highly recommend this book!

Pig took a vacation and he would cause a big mess. The locals would even yell at him to go away. That did not stop his behavior until he went swimming and the piranha bit him. Of course, this wouldn’t have happened if he had noticed the sign that said no swimming but he ignores it. He has learned not to ruin a whole holiday. I don’t like how the name of the pug is a pig. It can confuse some kids while reading this book. The bright side of this book is that it’s short and easy to read. We can use this book to teach a lesson to respect other countries when traveling.
Not every Pig title wins instant admiration from me, unlike the zillions of school kids this greedy, self-centered, self-indulgent pooch performs for. The Tourist however, appeals to a slightly older crowd I felt and therefore wins sincere laughter and brownie points. As ever, perfect rhyme and ribald illustrations depict Pig in all his glorious irreverent splendor, which one hopes will show the kiddies how NOT to behave when it comes to cultural and environmental appreciation.
Pig the Pug unleashes his usual mayhem - this time, whenever he travels and things 'unravel'! Sadly, he is the epitome of the horrible Aussie tourist overseas - despite poor, loyal friend Trevor trying to model the best travelling behaviour possible. A little sharp comeuppance at the end helps put the brakes on for the over-entitled, rapscallion Pig.
I am not a fan of Pig the Pug - for me his bad behaviour is tiresome rather than humorous but this is sure to amuse many youngsters. The story does introduce some useful concepts relating to travel - passport, planes, famous places etc to initiate some discussion and some research (Mona Lisa, Pisa etc).
Another fun addition to the Pig series. We all know someone who doesn’t travel well. Unfortunately for Trevor, that means even on holidays, Pig manages to spoil things for him. He is still the self-centered Pug we know and love, causing chaos wherever he goes. Kids will love it!
Oh Pig! Will he ever learn his lesson? Now he's running amok on holidays, getting into the usual sorts of trouble. I like the incorporation of different cultures and festivals in this episode of Pig's adventures.
This time Pig is traveling and causing a commotion everywhwere he goes. Trevor is trying to do the right thing, but Pig does not care. Illustrations are hilarious and kids will enjoy figuring out what Pig is up to in each picture. Highly recommended for Grades K-2.
Read as part of storytime at work. This is a cute little story—I haven't met any kids who don't like Pig the Pug. The illustrations are pretty simple, but effective and cute nonetheless.
