Moment in Time #2

Complicated Love

Rate this book
Kaysen and I are happy with our no-strings-attached relationship even though he‘s my boss.

Or so I thought.

Now he wants more.

I’m not capable of giving more of myself, but I’m afraid to lose him.

He’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of but wouldn’t allow myself to have.

I don’t deserve him.

Kaysen doesn’t agree.

If I’m honest, we’re perfect for each other in every way.

And that complicates everything.

Full of spoilers review.

So this book was such a cliché.

I knew where it was going before starting. What I didn’t know was that the hero would remained faithful to the heroine during the 5 years of their FB relationship. There was no background information of this (of course) but that’s the feeling I got from him. I kinda expected him to be with OWs while she pushed him away during those 5 years and I kinda expected her to be this pathetic faithful woman. That’s what authors have done before. That’s how much I don’t trust authors now.

Heroine had her issues and her issues had issues. She annoyed me for more than 40% of the book.
When she was 18 she was in love with a boy, they got pregnant and when they told his parents about their baby and their plan to get married his parents gave him an ultimatum, chose her and their baby and lose their money. He chose greed. He chose their money instead of the heroine and their baby. They paid her off. Gave her a million dollars in order for her to go away and get rid of the baby. So she did. She was so heartbroken that she decided to give the baby up for adoption. That’s where she lost me, she said that she couldn’t take care of a baby. She was too young. She wanted to go college and her parents have also kicked her out, they were paid off by her ex’s parents too. So she gave her baby for adoption. And here I’m thinking she has a million dollars she could easily taken care of that baby but she chose not to. Ok, it’s fine! Adoption it’s a beautiful thing. She chose an open adoption, she wanted to stay in that child’s life. That’s also fine. But she kept referring to the baby as “her” baby. How she loves “her” baby. Now this might be just me but i kept thinking that it’s really not “her” baby. Yes, she’s her biological mother but that’s all. The mother of this child is the adoptive mother. She’s the one who’s caring for this baby. She’s the mother in every sense of the word. The adoptive parents were good parents until the author decided to kill them in a car accident. And now the heroine has a 9 year old daughter that she did not raise. And wanted to be called mom. The heroine had the best of both worlds if you ask me before author killed the adoptive parents. She had someone to take care of her child while she got to be young and free of any obligations and be in “her” child’s life without any responsibility for this child.

Hero also had his issues but that didn’t stopped him from wanting a relationship with the heroine. He was married when he was in college, he loved his wife a lot. She killed herself and their unborn baby. He didn’t think he would loved anyone again until he met the heroine. From the moment they started their FB relationship he never pushed her for more during those 5 years because he did not want to lose her. He knew if he pushed her for a bit she would run, she used him for sex every time she was scared. So he took his time, never pushing for more until the book starts. Even then when he told her he wanted more she was pushing him away but he never wavered.

The book ends with sugary bow wrapped around package. Even though the heroine spent the whole book saying she wouldn’t want to ever get married or have more kids that’s what she did. She got married and had more kids.

Safety: Hero and heroine have been faithful to each other since the moment they began their FB relationship. (Again there’s no real mention of this, this was just a feeling I got.)
There’s absolutely no OW drama. There’s drama from 2 different men, one from her ex. And the other from one of the single parents at her daughter’s school. It did not cause drama in the couple’s relationship.

Overall the story about 2 broken persons is very appealing. I thought it will have an healthy angst and drama and twist on this book. But I was wrong. I end up very confuse with this book. Kaysen and Wynter have been having this no string attach that kind of relationship. Just sex to dull their pain. It works out great until their past barreling into their present.

I do not understand why Kaysen suddenly have change of heart and wanting a serious relationship. Even though there is Keysen's POV, this issue is not addressed well in the book. So I feel disconnected with Keysen. Meanwhile Wynter character does not develop very well. For someone who went through such betrayal, she looks at life as a picnic in the park.

The writing style is also not hit the point. Again I am expecting angst. But i got a walk in the park that kind of writing. Like everything in the world is just an ice cream ready to be consumed. I read miss Mayer books before and I found it hit and miss with me.

Complicated Love took me on an emotional ride. Most romances focus on the love between partners and this kind of love is explored within this novel, however, Complicated Love also shows how the love a parent has for a child can also be complex and complicated. This extra layer makes Complicated Love a great read.

I enjoyed how this story is different from many I have read recently. The major difference for me was the strength of Wynter and Kaysen's relationship from the start. They have an ease about each other, they have just let the demons of their pasts get in the way of establishing a real committed relationship.

Wynter and Kaysen have been close friends and in a sexual relationship for many years. Neither are players, cheaters or drama queens. They have a mature outlook on life, even though they both have been hurt in the past. I made a real connection with this pair. Much of the drama of the story comes from external influences, Wynter and Kaysen's relationship remained solid.

Although I have read the first book from this series, I am confident in saying that Complicated Love can be read as a standalone. If you are a fan of super sweet love stories with a bit of heat, Complicated Love is the book for you.

After reading Unexpected Love, I knew I wanted Kaysen and Wynter's story!!!!! These two have sooo much chemistry, I wanted them together forever!!!!

Wynter has had a hard past, I don't want to give too much away, but Wynter and Kaysen embark on a no strings/sexual type of "non-relationship".... But Kaysen, has started to fall hard for Wynter and he wants her for everything. He has just fallen soooo hard for her, and I was swooning totally hard!!!! Wynter wants it, but is having a hard time accepting that she is deserving of being in love again or being loved.

I love how these two mesh so well together, and how they did everything in their power to make it work. I loved their story and loved seeing the characters from the previous book come into play. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

When you are so hurt by a young love gone wrong you give up on Happy Ever After. Wynter and Kaysen have baggage so their arrangement fit them, but after all the years of them hooking up feelings get involved and its gets harder to hide. One step at a time and they find their happy medium but when the things Wynter kept to herself come to light will Kaysen still be there for her when she needs him more then she ever thought. I loved these two story. Its heart felt and shows love can win after all.

I LOVED this book! The characters, the chemistry, the heartbreaking back story that lead these characters to where they are! All of this made for sure an amazing read! I was hooked right from the first page and could not put this book down. I had to know what was going to happen next, and even when I thought I had things figured out the author would through in a twist so major I would be lost for words.

This is a must read book for sure!

A beautifully written emotional book I dare you not to shed a tear or two - Well done Miss Mayer Well done!

Pour a drink get the tissues ready for the 2nd book 'in the moment in time series' you're gonna need them!

Meet Kaysen and Wynter who we first meet in Unexpected Love - Wynter was best friends with Addilyn who's story that book centres on - you don't need to have read the first one but believe me you will want to.

Wynter has worked for Kaysen for 5 years and for most of that time they have been friends with benefits, that nobody in the firm or even their friends were aware of. Both of have a tragic background - Wynter abandoned by her boyfriend when she she found out she was pregnant at 19 - apparently the family wealth was more important to Warren than his girlfriend and baby. Wynter made the difficult choice to put her daughter up for the adoption but with the understanding she could still be part of her life - enter Aunt Wynter.

Kaysen's wife killed herself when pregnant as she was so in love in Kaysen she did not want him to love anyone else but him.

So............too broken souls not looking for love or connection just fun - but someone where along the way Kaysen wanted more with Wynter and the fight is on to make her understand that they both can and deserve something better.

Both have been focused on the life they thought they were suppose to live alone that they almost lost the chance for the life they could have together. But fate has a cruel hand and just when Wynter and Kaysen can start to see a future together tragedy strikes in the cruelest of ways.

Both Wynter and Kaysen had their futures planned out, which included a happy ever after, with other people until both their relationships came to a crashing end for very different reasons. They are left with a pain and devastation that they never want to endure again.

They have picked up the pieces of their lives and not only do Wynter and Kaysen share a working relationship, but they are best friends and lovers as well. They have been together five years when Kaysen decides that he wants to take their relationship to the next level and now all he needs to do is convince Wynter.

As they explore the possibilities of their new relationship their world gets torn apart by Wynter’s past, but will this bring them closer or tear them apart?

This is an emotional story about love, healing and new beginnings. Both Wynter and Kaysen have endured so much and although their relationship is far from easy, they are so much stronger together than apart.

Every time I read one of Ms. Mayer’s books I think it’s my favorite and each time I’m proved wrong. I already adored Kaysen and Wynter but boy do I adore them and more! I don’t want to give anything away but I will tell you without a doubt this is a top read of mine in 2019! Without a doubt! Ms. Mayer will take you on a roller coaster of emotions but the end of the journey is where it’s worth it. I laughed, I cried, and I fell in total love. This is not much of a review but I can tell you, this book is everything and then some ❤️

Complicated Love was an emotional story that hit me hard in the feels, not to mention how the amazing goodness just flowed over me. I'm already a HUGE fan of Kristin Mayer, so trust me when I say this since I've done the leg work, she completely blew me away with this story, and it's now my favorite from her to date. And I don't say that lightly at all because she's simply brilliant with an addictive, off the charts awesome writing style that always transports me into her world. It all started when Wynter was 18, and the boyfriend who promised they would stay together, totally annihilated her in a matter of minutes after they went to talk to his parents. Fast forward many years later Wynter is doing okay for herself. She's managed to put herself through school, has a very good job, and is basically friends with benefits with her best friend/boss, Kaysen. However, he's decided that he wants more, confusing Wynter, because they've always had rules to make sure this didn't happen, and since her heart was smashed at 18, she's very gun shy about relationships. Somehow, he gets her to agree, although she's seriously a flight risk, because she runs anytime something gets too intense, so you already know that she caught feelings as well. Just when she's doing great with the new relationship, a blast from her past comes back to throw her world back into chaos. Yeah, not only did the emotional portion of the story that I experienced & wrecked me, there's twists thrown into the mix, as I wasn't sure how it would pan out, because of that dark horse coming back to haunt her. I know I dropped plenty of loud f-bombs for real, but I was still raw from the angst levels at that point, and Ms. Mayer didn't shy away from punching me over & over again in the feels that's for sure. So just when I was thinking unicorns & rainbows were on the horizon, BAM! The biggest twist came out of nowhere, and this time, it brought me to my knees. So, I guess the question then became, will Wynter build up those walls again? Or will she finally get through things together with Kaysen instead of running. To find out these answers, grab some tissues & one click this emotional piece of goodness immediately! You won't be sorry, as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Bravo Kristin Mayer for choosing the absolute perfect title for this spectacular story!!! Complicated Love is the 2nd book in Ms. Mayer’s latest series, Moment in Time.
We first met Wynter and Kaysen in the first book in the series, Unexpected Love. I was very happy to learn that they would be getting their own story in Complicated Love. I could not wait for it to hit my Kindle so I could read it!!!
Kaysen and Wynter both have some serious hang-up from their stellar ex’es, and I do not mean “stellar” in a good way. First Wynter’s ex chooses money over his so called “love” for her. Then, shows up years later when Wynter is finally ready to start living again, claiming to want to start again!?!! And Kaysen’s ex, don’t even get me started on that b, errr wonderful person!!!!! YES, sarcasm is intended!!!
My heart freaking shattered for Anne Marie when she lost Paige and John. Sorry Ladies, I am not going to give ANYthing away, so no spoilers from me. I will say this, I am VERY happy Anne Marie had Remmy around 😊 to help her through her loss. You will probably need to read both books in this wonderful series to fully understand this scene.
I LOVED every word in this book, however, four scenes were really emotional and stood out for me. First, the first time Kaysen says “Ti amo” to Wynter…sigh!!! Second, which happens more than once, first is when Anne Marie gives Wynter and Kaysen their Christmas gifts. Then, when Wynter gives Kaysen his birthday present. And lastly, when Wynter gives Anne Marie and Kaysen presents at dinner and how she made them wait to open them. I cried like a baby each and every time!!!
I was gifted with a copy of this book for my opinion and because I really love reading about love stories. In my opinion, Kristin Mayer is one of the great romance writers out there. Thank you for sharing your phenomenal writing talents with the world, Ms. Mayer. In my humble opinion, you definitely have a winner with this wonderful book!!
Thank your for reading my review. I hope I helped you make the decision to purchase this book.

I devoured this book! My heart was completely in this book. I laughed, I swooned and I cried so hard. The title is perfect for this book and so is the cover. Exactly how I picture Kaysen and Wynter. My heart truly broke for Wynter. I can't imagine having your whole world rocked and taken away, only to find angels that will help you out and change your world. Wynter was young but had a plan. It didn't exactly go as planned. She had to start over and give her daughter a loving home. She worked her butt off to get where she is. The problem with her is that her heart is closed off and honestly I don't blame her. She got burned badly. Kaysen is a remarkable man. He has made a name for himself and has a very successful business making a crap ton of money. His world was rocked as well and has no desire to get close to a woman again. Him and Wynter have been having fun for 5 years but it comes time when he wants more and Wynter freaks a bit. There's things she hasn't told him. Kaysen is a gem. He takes everything given to him and makes Wynter feel loved. He's by her side in the good and bad times. The past has a way of creeping up and changing things. Then tragedy hits and I lost it. I did not seeing this coming at all and it destroyed me. Wynter and Kaysen are thrown into a world they never saw coming but handle it very well. Yes things are stressed but they persevere and make it work. This book was beautifully written and has heartfelt characters you can't help but love. It also shows what can happen when greed takes over your life and you don't change. It's sad what happened but he left happen. Wynter and Kaysen get their sweet happy ending which I loved so much! This book was great!!

After getting bits and pieces of these two, so happy they finally got their own story! While we got a little bit from both Kaysen and Wynter in the previous book in the series, nothing prepared me for the storyline that Kristin gave us with this book and I fell in love! It was different, heartbreaking, emotional, and hopeful all in one! Coming from the “wrong” side of the tracks, at 18 Wynter is ready to take on life with the love of her life, but that all changes when she finds out she’s pregnant. Years later, we find Wynter working for Kaysen across the country, and makes sure to keep her life and past guarded and secret. Even though Kaysen and Wynter have been hooking up for a number of years, she has never let him in, and neither has he and it all changes with this book. When they finally decide to take things to the next level and actually attempt a relationship, Wynter’s world is rocked yet again and the merging of her past and present happen, and she questions her decisions on moving forward with Kaysen. Gosh, I really loved this book and Kristin has quickly become a top author in my list. With the combination of her style of writing and her unique storylines, they suck you in and make for a really enjoyable reading experience. Can’t wait for her next read!

Two lost souls that find each other sounds like a HEA, but when both have secrets from their past, their pain just might run too deep to ever move forward. Kaysen and Wynter may be together physically but emotionally they couldn’t be more alone....fighting their own demons that continue to haunt them daily had become their “norm” with no light at the end of a very dark tunnel.

I was so saddened by the life these two were existing in. I literally could feel their pain and anxiously waited for something positive to come to each of them! When they finally opened up honestly about their secrets, they both saw the other in a different light. They saw how selfless, strong and loving a person can truly be. I fell in love with this couple and their beautiful relationship! I felt privileged to witness their raw honesty, protectiveness of each other and deep love.

Complicated Love is a must read if you’re looking for a novel with every feeling a person can experience....from heart breaking sadness that takes your breath away to overwhelming joy that will patch up the pieces of your broken heart!

I received a review copy before release for an honest review.

This is book 2 in the series and the first thing the author says about this book is its related to events from the first book (Unexpected Love) and she suggests you read it first. I LOVED the first book so I went back and re-read it again and I am glad I did. Then I dug into this story.

This is Wynter and Kaysen's story. In this book they have been in a relationship for 5 years. However Wynter has some deep secrets that she has never told a soul. And she has to learn to trust Kaysen and let him in on her secrets.

These two have a very beautiful relationship with trust and a deep love and friendship with the other. And that's what made this story so wonderful. A big plot twist happens in the story that changes things for both characters and I sorta saw that coming before it happens but I loved how it changes the story in a big way.

This was a wonderfully written story with wonderful characters and I loved seeing Lucian and Addilyn and their whole family from the first book. The only thing I was sad about was that this story and series ended.

5 Fighting for More Stars!!!

I'm not sure how she does it, but Ms. Mayer has the uncanny ability to write a story that draws me in very slowly letting me savor the characters and their love story and then BAM!! Something totally unexpected happens and I'm an emotional mess!!

I really thought I knew what I was in store for with this book of friends to lovers between Wynter and Kaysen. Well, I got a lot of what I was hoping for but there’s a moment in this book that literally changed my world and that of the characters. I was an emotional wreck! I couldn’t understand the why, but since I’ve always trusted in her writing and ability to bring me back to calmer thinking, the more I read the more I loved these two. Both together and as individuals. They’re definitely tested and there’s secondary characters that add a depth and dimension to this story that at times was shocking and debilitating and other moments were one of calm and loveliness.

This story brings us a story of the ultimate love one person can to give to another and it’s one that has left me raw with emotions but also thrilled that I was able to go on this journey with Wynter and Kaysen. It’s absolutely in my top reads of 2019!!!

Complicated Love was complicated, emotional, beautiful and so much more than I expected.

Kaysen and Wynter are best friends, coworkers and friends with benefits. That’s what they have been for the past 5 years. They both have loads of extra baggage in their lives and really don’t want to do anything to complicate their situation. But what happens when they start wanting more and secrets that have been hidden for years come to light?

I couldn’t put this book down. I may have started it super late at night and was up until the wee hours of the morning finishing it. I was completely hooked on Wynter and Kaysen’s story. I didn’t want this to end. Their past is messy, their relationship isn’t 100% conventional but the love they had and the admiration they had for each other was beautiful. I was not expecting to get so emotional while reading this book, but I did. It was hard not to.

This book is beautifully written. The characters, both main and secondary, were fantastic. The plot is great and sucks you in.

Complicated Love is a MUST READ.

No Spoilers…I tried

5 stars!!! I love when a books takes me on an emotional roll-a-coaster. I think I need to take stock in tissues…LOL Kristin Mayer is one amazing writer. I felt their pain and happiness right alone with Wynter and Kaysen. Their story was beautifully written. I had a hard time putting this book down.

Kaysen is Wynter's Boss. They have also been long time friends and in a "relationship" for the last few years. Wynter and Kaysen have a lot of past baggage so they feel no-strings-attached (NSA) works for them, but as some NSA hooking up goes feelings get involved and its gets harder to hide their feelings for each other and their pasts. I love the fact that for the most part Wynter and Kaysen's relationship seems rock-solid. They were written perfectly for each other.

I recommend you read the first book in this series Unexpected Love (Moment in time #1) but if you can’t don’t let that stop you from reading Complicated Love (Moment in time #2). It can be read as standalone story. Can’t wait for Kristin's next book!!!

Young Love is never what you expect especially when you are from the wrong side of the tracks and his parents think you are white trash! Wynter was abandoned while she was 8 weeks pregnant. She packed up her life and moved across the country and make life altering decisions.

9 years later she claims to be single and she is known as Aunt Wyn to the the daughter that she gave up for adoption. She is successful and currently have a fuck buddy relationship with her boss! You heard me HER BOSS, Kaysen, who has just as much baggage in the relationship dept as Wynter.

Just as Wynter and Kaysen decide to give their relationship a little more the past comes back to haunt them in addition to a tragic death! Wynter must reevaluate her current life and decide if she stays the course or move to a future that she never realized she wanted!

Amazing love story with plenty of heart break and an ending that the reader never suspected! Perfectly written from both Wynter and Kaysens POV and enough emotion to make you smile!

Absolutely loved this story!

I was so excited for Wynter and Kaysen's book, I could hardly stand the wait! But Kristin Mayer made it so worth it! Wynter has compartmentalized her life, shutting out any mention of her past. She could only handle a friends with benefits situation with her boss Kaysen for the last five years. Now he wants more and Wynter isn't sure she can take that leap. Kaysen knows that Wynter has something she is hiding, something holding her back from being with him completely. When she reveals it to him, he knows that he now has a chance and he won't take it for granted. She is it for him and no matter what he will never let her go. This story is emotional, a journey for Wynter primarily but for Kaysen as well. They need to work through their pasts and embrace the possibilities of the future. Wynter transforms over the course of the book and Kaysen gets stronger too. I loved watching their relationship progress and get the happy ending they both deserve! A beautiful romance in the truest sense of the word, 5 stars for Complicated Love!

I am crying as I find the words to write this review. Complicated Love shows how hard life can be but is worth fighting for when you love them with all your heart. Wynter and Kaysen are in a friend with benefits relationship even if Kaysen is Wynter’s boss. They’ve been best friends, work together and lovers for the past five years. Kaysen is ready for more but he understands Wynter’s not ready for the commitment he wants.

Wynter’s past hurt her and left her to make life changing decisions at a young age. The people she relied on back then have all turned their back on her. Well, she decided long ago and has lived with it for the past nine years.

Kaysen had his own heart shattered by the wife he thought would be his happily ever after. Wynter is different and he wants to show her that he will be by her side if she lets him. But can he handle all the skeletons and obstacles that come in their path? Is he ready to fight for Wynter and all that comes with her?

Beautifully written. This author has a way of putting a huge smile on my face and then sobbing uncontrollably in the next page. Grab those tissues and pillow to hug as you become a part of this world. Even with all the emotion that Complicated Love will pull from you, you can’t help but enjoy the ride.

Complicated Love by Kristin Mayer was a story not only about love, but of friendship, family, second chances and hope. Two people who were lost and broken find in each other what they never expected to have ever again. I got lost in Kaysen and Wynter’s story from start to finish.

Kaysen and Wynter has a no-strings attached relationship for years. It worked for them, but suddenly, what they shared had become so much more. Could they learn to let someone in again? I loved Kaysen so much. Though he had been devastated in the most horrible way, he was not afraid about what he felt for Wynter. He was strong, determined and caring. He would do anything for her. It was harder for Wynter, but she knew she did not want to live a life without Kaysen in it in some way or other. She always wanted to be in control but was caring and honest.

Complicated Love by Kristin Mayer was emotional, touching and heartwarming. I loved seeing Kaysen and Wynter navigate what they feel for each other and whatever life throws at them. Though this is part of a series and is better enjoyed read in order, it can be read as a standalone as well. Each story is about a different interconnected couple.

If it is a heartfelt moving romance that will have you caught in a storm of emotions then Complicated Love should be top on your list. A story of heartbreak, sacrifice and an all encompassing love. These characters will grab hold of your heart and own your soul. Tears will be shed, smiles will be shared and the passion and love will emanate off the pages. Two people who have taken a journey along a road filled with dips, bumps, twists and turns feeling like the ultimate destination would never be reached. This is a soul-stirring, moving, powerful and touching story that will at times have your heart in pieces, only to mend it with the warmth and passion of true love. Be prepared for your pulse to race, your breath to be stolen and to fall in love right along with these characters.
P.s. If there was ever to be a book boyfriend that you wished upon a shooting star for, Kaysen would be the one.

I really enjoyed getting to know both Kaysen and Wynter, the best friends of Lucian and Addilyn from Unexpected Love, the first of the A Moment in Time novels. I found both Wynter and Kaysen intriguing and interesting characters in the first novel, but wow, do they come alive and real in Complicated Love, their story!
Kaysen lost his beloved wife and unborn child when she committed suicide. Wynter had to give up her newborn at the bage 19 after being completely betrayed by her HS sweetheart and her own family. Both carry so much guilt, scars and baggage that you think at first that there's no real hope for either outside of friends with benefits. Basically that's what they've been for the past 5 years, but now Kaysen is ready for more with Wynter. It's a struggle and constant work, but will they get their chance at a HEA after her child goes through a horrible tragedy and the ex comes a-calling??
