A long somewhat difficult book to finish but very good for understanding the Teabaggers of our present time and their political ideas. It certainly made me realize how false is the idea that slavery would have just withered away (joke, you will get it if you can finish this book)and it also helped me understand how persistently racism and states rights continue together after all these years. All is viewed through the very interesting life of Gouverneur Morris and the scandals surrounding his young wife and the 1811 Proposal of the Commissioners of Streets and Roads.
Very nice maps included!

Phenomenal storyline of early America, 1800's to very early 1900's. An engrossing character study and expert telling of several main characters intertwined throughout this part of history. Part historical & partly fiction, this reader was relishing every page! Want to add this one to my permanent bookcase for future re-reading. Bordered on intense human suffering but with hopeful resilient admirable characters.

Another lake house book - quite long - I picked up to while away a few VERY rainy days. It actually went nicely with New York (that I also just finished).

A good yarn about our early history - teh Reveloution, our founding Fathers, slavery.... A bit long-winded and slow but interesting none-the-less. Not for everyone.
