This great book of Obama quotes and photos brought me back to the humanity of his time in the White House. Here is a man who does not take himself too seriously and is often the butt of his one-liners.
I miss the intelligence, the compassion and kindness of the Obama years.
This photographic account begins with the cover picture of the presidential couple of the 21st Century, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama smiling lovingly and joyously at one other at one of their numerous public appearances. The entire book has many candid photos of the former president in his element – representing the American public with elegance and style. Some of the picture include a picture directing his conversation with Prince George of Cambridge, sharing a laughing moment with President-Elect Joe Biden, reaching to embrace former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, standing on stage with country-western singer Willie Nelson, several upfront and personal photos with the love of his life – Michelle Obama. Readers can look inside of the man, his family and constituents through his words spoken at the White House Correspondent’s Association dinners throughout his Presidency. Obama’s words are all full of pun and laughter which is something we all need in our lives. One funny quote he made was, “You might have heard that someone jumped the White House fence last week, but I have to give Secret Service credit- they found Michelle, brought her back, she’s safe back at home now.” Obama is jokingly referring to the incident when someone jumped the White House fence which was quite frightening! Readers can enjoy reading Obama’s funny rhetoric while thumbing through the collage of photos that show the former president at ease, happy and fun-loving. According to the Readasaurus Reviews, “if you are a fan of Obama and want a book that catalogues his glory days, this is a great book to own. The selection of quotes is great and they are paired alongside pictures that are amusingly appropriate.”
Full disclosure: I am a Barak Obama fan, a Mets' baseball fan, and I don't like television commercials. Why would I link these things in reviewing this book? In the course of a 9 inning game, there are 18 commercial breaks. Each about two minutes long. Not enough time to read a book or an article. But plenty of time to read a good joke.
That's how I read this book. Fortunately, it was very funny as the Mets lost each game I was watching while reading it. It made suffering the Mets' losses tolerable.
I was slightly disappointed because I absolutely love President Obama and he's hilarious. Most of the quotes in this book, unfortunately, were not. I loved the pictures, but it would have been nice to see descriptions of who was in them and where/when they were taken. But overall I enjoyed it and I'm going to read more by this author.
Best President ever! How did we go from him to the criminal now in the WH?
I still miss him! 8 Years and not one hint of scandal. Thank heaven he will be out in a little more than a month and we can hopefully restore ethics and truth in our leader. 😍
I actually don't think this book did the Obama presidency any favors. I found many of the quotes that accompanied the photos to be quite snarky and at times somewhat mean. The pictures, however, were mostly lovely.
M. Sweeny's book is another that captures the "real life" Barrack Obama" through pictures and printed word. The best part is the Wit and Spirit isn't something that is manufactured, it's real. That comes through loud and clear in this book. Enjoy!
A little thin... It wouldn't have been at all difficult to come up with more material, and more context would have been helpful for some of these. But what there was was good.
