Infinity Chronicles: Book One

Rate this book
New town, new school. Same story. I'm Laura, I've spent most of my life crisscrossing the county yielding to the whims of my transient mother. We've never stayed in one place long enough to call it home, and I don't have any hope of that changing.

I follow the rules; no drawing attention to myself, no friends, and especially no boys.

But my mom's been keeping secrets, secrets so profound they threaten to turn my world upside down. I've always assumed her paranoia was a symptom of a mental illness, but as her secrets begin to unravel, I realize nothing is what it seems.

As my life careens out of control a group of guys from school promise to give me answers about who I really am. I'm afraid of what I might learn, but more afraid of what I could be giving up if I don't listen.

I am not certain about how I feel about this book.

- The characters are so socially and emotionally handicapped, the amount of misunderstandings keeps increasing.

- Said characters are also all borderline bipolar and it makes everything confusing.

- But then again, the story is confusing by itself; stuff happened but nothing did? There is zero plot and the book mostly revolves around idiots trying to communicate.

The first book of Infinity Chronicles is mediocre at best and in need of a new round of edit; the story is average, the characters are average, but some scenes stand out by being particularly well done. Is it enough to make me read the second book? Perhaps.

A comedy of errors

This time I'll start with the plot before the technicalities.... nothing really went right. So Laura, on the move constantly and never opening up, practically moves in with 4 guys after knowing them for a few days? Nothing is ever really explained to her but this careful and invisible girl just, goes with it? Allows 4 males to take over her life with no real answers? Really? After her mom just disappears, this apparently intelligent girl just... what? Gives over control of her life to 4 near strangers who promise answers and don't deliver. Then there's the convenience of her seeming to forget about the missing mom when it got in the way of the scenes with the guys. At the end, no one had a clear understanding of wth an Infinity does, is or is for....including the reader. The plot line doesn't have holes, it IS a black hole. Then there are the technical issues. Every other page had missing words, misused homophones and missing/misused apostrophes. It's like the author didn't bother to use grammar check, proofread herself, have beta readers or have an editor. The world building was almost non existent, but what little the was came in info dumps rather than actual story telling. There were no actual relationships built between any of the characters because there was no character development. This wasn't a unique story to begin with, but the author's mismanagement made it painful to read. She has been added to my "Never Again" list.

This was kinda frustrating in a boring way. But it filled the time while things are a bit stressful.
It's the kinda audiobook that's good to listen to with half an ear. If you miss some, it doesn't matter.
So I'll prob listen to the next one but I don't expect much.

This whole reverse harem thing seems to be the old mmmf thing but without the erotica and without a plot either. Kinda like eating vanilla ice cream when you aren't really hungry.

Laura (I had to look up her name even though I just finished the book last night), isn't human. I'm still not sure what she is. The story spins it's wheels for 354 pages never answering anything or taking a stand on anything.

Her mother and her are dirt poor and move from town to town every few months. In this town her mother disappears not long after Laura meets Dante, Ollie, Milo and Ares. The author taunts us with little glimmers of what their powers are and what they want from Laura.
Laura is justifiably frustrated through the entire book because they never tell her anything and don't seem to cherish her. That's what was missing in this one. Other RH books have the guys cherish the h and treat her with tenderness. That's what draws me to them I guess.
Here, they let other women touch them and lead them around without telling Laura where she stands. They leave Laura in the dark even though they've been waiting for her for years.

SO yeah, not really sure why I'm going to listen to the next one except that I don't want to start a better book until after my daughter's wisdom teeth are removed and I've done this, that and the other thing that are weighing on my mind.
I figure if I listen to all 4, I will have read the plot equivalent of a 200 page book... just stretched over 1360 or so pages.

By the end of this one, nothing has happened...

Safety is good.

Mix Gifted Connections 1 with Variant Lost and you have this! If your missing a little teenage drama and insta-bonds in your life then this is a great choice!

Take 1 innocent clueless teenage girl and 4 guys waiting for their synergist to appear = one long drama full with secrets and ”we’ll talk about it later”s.

Sounds like a headache but it’s really not. It’s all about the relationships, nothing really happens outside of them. No bad guy taking over the world, no purpose or supernatural academy for these people with powers. No use of their powers even, they barely even mention them.
So why did I enjoy it? ermmm I dunno really, the MC Laura.... Yes Laura a perfectly normal name shock horror.. is quite likeable even if she’s as innocent as they come. She takes everything the wrong way but still I couldn’t put this book down. She’s been moved about living in a trailer park her whole life, told by her single mother to keep her head down and not turn heads. So that’s what she does.
"My approach is like threading a needle, I have to be shy and awkward enough that they don't befriend me, and quiet enough that they forget me. "

Enter a new school and 3 students who make her skin tingle and we’ve got the makings of Variant Lost.
Which leads me to once again question why so much in this genre doesn’t seem original? But they are a crowd pleaser and I am one of the crowd

If we had a little more of a plot direction and some more powers and someone actually teaching the person who’s been hidden about this strange new world... this would have been better.

It’s PG13 but I don’t think it’ll stay that way for long, I can see it going into NA territory instead of staying YA.

I don't feel like I'm really selling this... it defiantly has its problems. But I gave it 4 stars for a reason. It’s well written and really easy to read. So the question is

If you want relationships instead of action and loved any of the other series mentioned above then you want this.

Still have no idea how I actually feel about this book...

Infinity Chronicles seemed like it had potential. However, again, I still have no idea what to think. The characters were eh.. some were actually likable but I was just so bored with everything that was happening. Wine couldn't even get me invested into anything that was in this book - and wine is my book friend!

I totally blame the MC though because if it wasn't for Lauren.. I would probably know how I felt about this book. She just couldn't keep a decision and it was frustrating. She just needed to decide on something and stick to it.. but no, that just couldn't happen! It was like telling my mom some good news.. just to be bombarded with 150 questions about it.. and then silently regretting saying anything. That's how I felt with this book.

Overall, I'm glad that it's over and I have no idea if I will even glance at Book Two.. whenever that comes out.

Just finished Infinity Chronicles #1. If anybody expect this to be a steamy book let me tell you it is not. In the first book nearly nothing happens only the reverse harem finde each other.
So I am looking forward to see what will happen in #2. I liked the storyline but as in a few other books too I wonder, why one of the MC has to have a difficult, trailer or poor life…

2.5 🌟's. Wow, I don't know what the heck i just listened to, lol! I gave this book a 3 cuz i was able to finish it. Otherwise, I'd give it fewer stars. There just wasn't much to this story. And what was occurring kinda creeped me out, but not in a cool way. It made me think of polygamy. But just over the top. I'm an introvert, so I definitely wouldn't want to be in Laura's shoes. I thoroughly enjoy my space and alone time. It seemed like a pg-13 grope fest. I'm so glad it's over!

I'm finding so many new audiobook choices now with audible than just a few months ago when I paused my membership.

Why Choose is hard to get right in audio without a full cast of narrators sharing dialogue, all those different character points of view in multiple narrator voices get so confusing. This story is told from the FMC's point of view only (so far at least) allowing it to be much easier to follow and a lot more enjoyable as an audiobook even though it only has one narrator. The narrator is not the best I've come across for doing multiple character voices but was good enough for me to follow along with the story without feeling lost or confused.

The story is a young adult, high school age, slow burn, paranormal, Why Choose?
The FMC is in her final year of high school and has spent the majority of her life constantly moving from one town to another whenever her mother felt it was time to leave. Although the reasons for the constant moving are not known to the FMC she just assumes her mom is bipolar or unwell in some way. This kind of blank assumption doesn't work well for me, I find it hard to understand how the character never drilled her mother for more answers about why they live the way they do or about where they come from or her father. But having those answers at the beginning gives away the mystery so we'll just go with the FMC is dense theory.

When I say dense I mean she really is completely inept at reading social situations and jumps to all the wrong conclusions. But without the dense personality, we wouldn't get all the juicy drama that comes from her misunderstanding the guys.

The guys she first meets when she starts at a new high school in a new town after moving, and it's a bit of a bumpy start since they seem to recognize her as something special to them but she's completely clueless having been raised away from anyone who could tell her anything about her ancestry or heritage or whatever you call her gifts that she somehow doesn't know she has and has never used before because she didn't think things like magic existed.

There are 4 guys 3 in high school and another older one who moves back to town as soon as they learn about her. I didn't get to know them very well, part of that is because it's a single POV but also because it's the first book and introductions have only just been made. We'll probably learn more about the guys in the next book. We didn't need to get personal with each guy in this book, it's just not where the story is at yet.

This is one of those situations where character growth is going to be a huge part of how I judge this series. It's a good start, the storyline has mystery, and the characters have potential. I'll just have to keep reading to know more.

This was a captivating start to a paranormal romance series that deftly weaves suspense and mystery into the fabric of high school drama. The protagonist, Laura, is a relatable character whose nomadic life and enforced solitude evoke sympathy. Laura follows her mother’s strict rules: no drawing attention to herself, no friends, and no boys - it's a very lonely and seemingly boring way to live. She has spent her life moving from place to place with her mother, never having a real home. We follow Laura on her journey as she moves to yet another new place, where she encounters a group of guys at school who change her life completely - both her past, present, and future! Laura now has many questions about her entire existence…

Very intriguing! This was just what I was in the mood for 👌
The only thing missing is hearing the guys’ POVs.

I both did and didn't enjoy this book. I got totally sucked into the story, I definitely need more Ares in my life, and I will absolutely read book two. But I felt like only two of the characters (Ares and Ollie) were really fleshed out well. Even Laura, MFC, flip-flopped so much in her reactions that it made my head spin. But what really really really got to me was the number of typos and misuse of homonyms; I honestly think there was something wrong on every third page. Proof-reading and editing is not a step to skip!! All the errors, which seemed to get worse at the end, kept me from fully enjoying a book with great potential.

*2.5 stars. I think I may be more annoyed than Laura with the lack of communication/miscommunications about what the fuck was going on! The story…what I know of it…was interesting enough to keep going but it’s on thin ice!

I tried to get through this but only made it 50%. This was HS and maybe more representative of actual teenagers than academy romances I read because these characters were so immature. I was fine with the FMC when she was broody and quiet. But once she started opening her mouth - ugh. And the MCs…. Also WTF. Dumb all around and I just don’t care enough about any of it to continue on.

I loooove this book-series!
It may not be exciting enough for others but for me it is all I’m looking for! It’s a totally sweet story and very light on the pnr without any huge drama and I just enjoy the story how the five of them come together!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Don’t get me wrong, I love my bad-a** feisty heroine but it was so nice to not have major scandals and over the top drama. A few things still happen but in general it’s just a super comfortable read!!

Ugghhh the teenage angst throughout this book was nearly the death of me.. I mean the concept looks like its going to be interesting, but we are so stuck on the build up and never made it to the explosion. Still just sitting there on a simmering volcano of emotion.. I think the anxiety from the angst might have given me some heartburn.. This book is going somewhere.. I just can't tell you if it will get there any time soon. I wanted to love it, I was almost there for a bit, but it took the whole book for them to just explain who and what they were. For some reason they just kept cutting off the explanations like midway through.. Even the main character noticed so it looks like it was done intentionally. I just don't know why lol.

Laura, our FMC, is thrust once again into a new school. Same crap different town. Trying to keep her head down and nose to the ground she is essentially in essence a pretty depressing character all around. Growing up she has constantly moved from place to place with her mom who over the years has grown increasingly paranoid and unable to be in public at all. Unfortunately just a week or 2 after getting into this new place her mom goes missing and at the same time several of the guys at school start acting funny toward her. Then, her world is thrown further into disarray as these attactive boys inform her she is a part of a supernatural communtiy and even further she is a part of their "infinity," even more so she is their "battery?" basically. I would like to give some kudos to the author because this is one of the more orginial supernatural concepts I've seen recently and I love that really. Unfortunately the building of the supernatural community from introduction to the end of this first book really needed work, at least for me. I felt like the author was trying to drag out the supernatural world building so long as to make the book longer or something. I mean there were like 10 occasions where the characters needed to have a "talk" to try to explain what and who they were and each time the buildup came we never actually got around to finding out what exactly was going on. What could have been done in a chapter or 2 took an entire book of explaining bits and pieces at a time as well as a mountain of miscommunications which of course threw the story all around as the FMC has many misconceptions. It turned into a hotmess there for a little bit. Thank the ever loving book gods for Ares, one of our male MCs. I feel like he is a man among boys, and really saved this book for the most part for me.

I really think this book might could use a rehaul with a more cohesive supernatural world building as well as maybe actually getting somewhere in the first book. I mean we literally did not get anywhere.. I liked it but dang.. giving me the freaking indigestion here. Mid story cut off ending, not even a cliffhanger really the story just stopped before we really ever got anywhere. I should have waited till these were all out before starting this...

The amount of interrupted conversations, miscommunication, and "we'll talk about it later"s going on in here is, honestly, kind of impressive.

I just read a whole ass book, and I have NO idea what the hell is really going on. And, hilariously, neither does Laura.

The world building is nearly non-existent. The magic system... well, it exists but that's about all Laura (and me!) knows about it. There's a strange girl named Mia living in the house with the boys and there's some implication that she's with one (or maybe all???) of them in a romantic way but NOBODY bothers to tell the reader OR Laura the truth about that situation. The boys don't bother to tell Laura about what's going on with the 5 of them either. They beat around the bush and then leave her to come to all the wrong conclusions, then act all confused when she gets upset and works herself into a tizzy.

We don't know anything about this community of poly-romantic power-having people. Or who is "coming for them" or why. We just get slapped with a side-character's ominous warning halfway through and then nothing comes of it.

If this was done on purpose, it would have been 5 star quality comedy.

Instead, it's just... sort of ludicrous.

Also, I should add that they say this is supposedly an RH book, but there isn't any actual RH going on. Not really. Obviously there's the set up for stuff TO happen in the future. But I'm guessing because the FMC is still a minor and one of the dudes is like 22, it probably wasn't the best idea to have them screwing all over the place.

I just read 350 pages and y'all I don't have a damn clue what the point of it was. There was no plot. None. It was just 350 pages of 5 socially-inept idiots trying and failing spectacularly to communicate with each other.

And yet...I couldn't put the book down???? I literally read it in one sitting.

How does that even happen?!

Maybe I was just desperately hoping a plot would show up at some point.

Instead, this felt like a get-to-know-the-characters sort of preview for the real story.

I'll be picking up book 2 out of pure, morbid curiosity. Surely all four books can't just be these people eating and showering and sleeping for 1200 pages????

3.5 stars for the series overall.
The first book is full of misunderstandings and miscommunication. The second book moves more, but I thought it was weird we didn't get answers to the questions the FMC even asked the guys such as "wtf is our purpose???" The third book was slower and made me frustrated with how little time Milo and Ollie received -_-" seriously, I know the brothers have the more interesting powers, but Ollie is hella cute, yet is ignored unless it is for comedic relief and Milo is a wet rag we learn nothing about. The fourth book finally brought some plot in, but also felt all over the place.

I want answers to... so many things tbh -- such as is having 5 people in an infinity special?? What exactly is Laura's power?? Why did Dante want to win the scholarship so badly?? What do they all plan on doing after high school and how??
Oh, and Infinities tend to only have 1 kid, but end up in a throuple or more... are we not going to talk about population decline?

That all being said, I actually really enjoyed reading the first two books because I was looking for sweet vibes and a slow burn romance. I got that-- yay. Even book 3 I think I'll give 3.5 or 4 stars too, I think I was just too frustrated by the end and how it all shook out so book 4 was my least favorite.

So, if you're looking for something easy and sweet (comfort read or something to read when you're sick) I do totally recommend this series. Just, don't go in expecting to be amazed or for amazing plot twists.

OMG!!!! This book has the most irritating heroine I've ever read!!! Just Damn! She's soooooooo aggravating with her stupidity and insecurities that at times I wanted to reach inside the book and slap her senseless but I don't think that would have helped her at all since she seems not to have any, common sense that is.

Ha, and you know what? the damn heroes didn't make it any better since they didn't seem to know how to express their feelings. But I will say this even though they had their faults I did like the heroes. They were some sweet guys, awkward but sweet no less.

I'm going to start on book two of this series and God help me and give me the strength to deal with this stupid heroine.

This book gets 3 stars because it has an interesting storyline but because of the stupidity and lack of communication with the characters they will need to earn the rest, hopefully in the next installment, it will be better. *** Fingers crossed***

This book was barely tolerable. Maybe the idea of the story is good, I don’t know, because it wasn’t long enough for anything to actually happen. It appears mostly unedited. The boys are evasive for the fun of it. Punctuation was....sometimes just not there? World building didn’t happen. Characters were flat and also super confusing. I don’t know, I read this book on a recommendation and I won’t be bothering with the next one.

I recently read variant lost, this book is similar to that. The storyline very was almost a reflection, not a bad thing. Did I like this story maybe? But it has potential. I would have liked this version more if the characters learnt how to communicate.

Hopefully, they sort themselves out

I can see that the author is setting us up for plot in this book, but unfortunately none of that plot happens in this book. Nothing really happens in this book at all. I mean you get back story on the main character, she meets a group of guys, her mom abandons her (or maybe goes missing), and they vaguely explain that she’s some sort of magical something. That’s it. They also go to school a lot.

From what I can tell, this is a little TOO similar to the Evelyn Maynard series for my liking.

I’m going to read the next one and report back. Based on the reviews from the ‘zon it looks like this series picks up. Hopefully.

Okay I cheated with this book a little bit because I love steamy. I love MMFM books I love the steamy makes you all twitchy sexy scenes. Ones I can't get enough of something I shouldn't be listening to at work but can't help myself. So, with that being said I read spoilers and found out that this series isn't for me because it's not all that which really really makes me upset because it could and should be. I not sure that any YA book should be MMFM it just doesn't seem to work because you need sex, and most YA doesn't have that.

Holy shit, I DEVOURED this book. I have been searching high and low for a well written PNR Reverse Harem. I tried some but found them to be fast burn and I just can’t get behind those, I feel like the relationships need time to build in order to be believable. Especially in a genre like reverse harem where there’s already an element of disbelief simply because the female lead ends up with three or more men.

Then I found this book. This. Was. Perfect. Laura moves to a new state and starts going to school where she tries her best to blend in. Her goal is to remain invisible so she can, hopefully, make her life easier at home. Circumstances lead to her meeting Ares, Dante, Ollie, and Milo. It takes time for their tentative friendship to start but once it does we get lots and lots of angsty goodness. We have some MM vibes going on in book one and let me just say...I’m a BIG fan.

Her WRITING. I think one of my favorite parts about this book was the fact that when we were in Laura’s head she was level headed, calm (even when she was panicked), and smart. But to everyone else she looked weak and timid, in her effort to blend in. She truly tried and it worked. I could hear the silence around her as she narrated. But that didn’t stop her from seeing every scene in vivid detail. She analyzed everything with sharp focus, she took in every detail without boring us, but when she opened her mouth? She was a total fucking badass. She was quick and witty when she answered questions. She barked her confusion and demanded answers. I totally have a lady boner for her.

The world building in this is also slower burn. It gives us a chance to really really want to know more. I know just enough to keep me interested while somehow managing to not confuse me. I’m honestly shocked.

This was so so good. The chemistry between our Infinity is SIZZLING hot and I can’t wait to see what happens in book two!!!

I am actually shocked that I finished this, but I think that I was holding out hope that something would actually happen in the story. Additionally, for someone that is supposed to be a smart girl, she is incredibly dense. Allows others to walk all over her. So disappointed.

Book: Infinity Chronicles Book One

Author: Albany Walker
Genre:Reverse Harem, Romance, Fantasy

My feelings:

Having devoured a few books by this particular author, I knew exactly what to expect from her unique writing style. And as always, she did not disappoint with this book; it was nothing short of fantastic. The words flew off the pages and into my imagination, painting vivid scenes that I could almost touch. Even the audio version, narrated by two of my all-time favourite voices, was a masterpiece in its own right.
A man steps forward from the shadows in the corner of the room, and a scream almost tears from my throat. “You’re who we’ve been waiting for. You are our Synergist.”

From the very first page, I fell in love with Dante - his brooding charm and mysterious past drew me in immediately. But Ollie...oh, Ollie stole the show. His infectious energy and playful banter never failed to lift everyone's mood, while Milo needed a lot of guidance and Ares exuded such an intimidating presence that he commanded attention without saying a word. The world-building was a slow burn, but every detail added to the anticipation and desire to learn more about this intricate universe.

His arms go over his head as he rolls onto his back, or rather tries to. Cursing he growls, “Why the fuck are you spooning me?” “Because you were trying to shove me out of bed with your ass.” Ollie’s voice is muffled.

Despite the gradual reveal of information, I found myself completely engrossed in the story without any confusion. This book was simply exceptional. And oh, the chemistry between our main characters - Infinity and their perfect match - was fiercely passionate and left me craving for more with each turn of the page. Needless to say, I am eagerly anticipating book two with bated breath

Mixed feelings // Spoilers ahead!

I really have mixed feelings reading this book. I am a fan of the idea, although it gives me a sense of déjà vu, reminding me of another very similar storyline in another series. Mom and daughter on the run, mom clearly trying to stay away from certain people. Daughter developing some self preservation mechanisms to avoid being noticed, mom goes missing, daughter finds out about some secret power she has and bonds to not 2, but 4 men.

The FMC is annoying me to the point I want to chew my arm off. For someone who attended a lot of different schools, one would think she knows all the different plays by now. And yet, she chooses to believe the territorial mean girl instead of just asking questions to the people wjo are actually nice to her. And that's where this book really starts to push my buttons. She starts assuming things and decides to judge people based on her assumptions. Judgemental anyone? But that's not all... She starts to judge people by assuming what they might think of her even when they are nothing but friendly. At first I decided to give it some time, because it does show a lot of potential. But after too many eyerolls I had to stop. There isn't really much going on in this book but the main character going back and forth between attraction and denial, demanding answers, but running away when they want to give it to her. Her inner dialogue is tiresome and vapid. I am quite disappointed really, because I really want to know how this will all develop in the next books, but I can't deal with the main character. Maybe if I can find someone who convinces me that the main character actually turns into a confident badass, I might continue reading.

Sigh. Meh.
It started strong ish but sort of spiraled into a hot mess, making it hard for me to figure out what was going on.

WHY do authors write these books they call slow burn but then the book only spans a week or two? Blergh.

I think she was attempting to write this as a bit of a mystery too? But it just came across as confusing.

Choppy writing, bad editing & at times I had no idea what was going on or what the author was trying to express.

I got whiplash reading this book.

Then there is the constant use of the miscommunication trope, as in every other chapter. It got old.

Can you people just sit and finish a mother fucking conversation? Like once?

This story is already feeling like a duet and the author was working hard to extend it longer. So so so many details we just don’t need.
Most repeated line-“we’ll talk about it later”. 🙄

Finished series. Maybe???

I don’t care about this series nor how it ends, but I do think it is a four book, finished series.

AND WHO TF IS “MIA”???

Ok I read the reviews for final book and apparently the ending is lackluster and leaves a ton of plot holes. So it all sucks.
I am avoiding this author from here on out. When you write a long ass series and don’t give proper attention to the details and tie up loose ends…maybe you need a new editor. ☮️ out on this babe.
