The Great Awakenings #3

Storm: 1798-1800

Rate this book
A storm of rebellion is gathering, and its dark clouds overshadow Yale College.

First-year student Asa Rush isn't surprised that he's one of a handful of Christians on campus. After all, he's been recruited by President Timothy Dwight to help bring revival to the school. Once a bastion of faith, Yale is now a hotbed of atheism, following on the tails of the popular French revolution.

But fellow student Eli Cooper is determined to make Asa's life miserable -- especially when both men fall in love with the sensuous, wealthy, and mysterious Annabelle Byrd. Just when Asa thinks things can't get worse, Dr. Dwight charges Asa with a shocking commission that shakes him to the core.

As America, barely two decades old, faces its first divisive presidential election, voters arm themselves in anticipation of the outcome. Asa and Eli are caught in the eye of the storm. Is the battle political or spiritual? Will the nation choose revolution or revival? And when the winds subside, who will be left standing?

Inspired by actual revival events, this third book in a series of four explores the personal and spiritual upheaval that occurs when the Holy Spirit stirs the waters of our souls.

Learned so much about political intrigue in our earliest days (Washington, Adams, Jefferson): the contemptuous election 0f 1800, murderous plots - even secret societies, duels & guillotines! - French inciters to a 2nd Revolution; as well as Yale & its President, Timothy Dwight & revival across the country!

I love this series. A breath taking journey ranging from the promises and emptiness of sin. To the great value of one on one evangelism. The story itself is enthralling. All the main characters of this series such as Asa are so relatable. Great Book!

Don't be put off by the first couple of chapters. Persevere, and you will be rewarded. Kept you wandering what was going to happen next.

I learned a lot about the early years of our country. It’s funny that it sounds like we are still fighting some of the same fights.

Great historical fiction. I enjoyed others in the series a little better, but this was still really good.

**A Christian fiction - it was interesting, and had some good points, but was not my favorite overall.

I enjoyed the book, hadn't realised it is part of a series. I have since ordered the other books in this series. I always enjoy historically based novels, I was not disappointed.

Not as good as the first two in the series. But still a readable story.
