A Captive Heart

A lovely tale about a princess who needs to look deep inside herself to see she can fend for herself and wanting to save someone who came to be her everything is so little time. I loved the adventure and budding romance. The characters are likeable and yes you do want to claw out the bad guys eyes at some point in the book and cry for joy in others.

Princess Avenie is mourning the death of her father when her brother informs her that she is soon to leave the kingdom to wed a prince of another land. Apparently, they have been betrothed since they were children, but this is the first she has heard about it. Theoron, the prince, soon learns about this marriage-to-be as well, and he is not too pleased about it, wishing he had some control over who would become, ultimately, his queen.

The book alternates between Avenie’s and Theoren’s perspectives written in the first person. We see their lives as they begin to intertwine and as they separate. These are two people who had no control over whether they would come together, but a bond begins to form slowly. Unfortunately, the prince is taken away soon before the marriage because of issues with another land that he needs to attend to. What will this mean for Avenie and Theoren?

I love the way the book opened with a brief page that sets the scene about what is happening in Rayterre with gravitas. It puts you in the mind of a fantasy setting right away and gets you immersed in the book. Avenie is such a sympathetic character right away. Her brother treats her terribly and relishes doing so. He is a petty, mean-spirited man. But Avenie is resigned to her fate; could it be much worse than what she already knows? But she will be tested more than she realizes, first in her prince’s realm and then farther away as she tries to take charge of her life in a world where princesses aren’t supposed to do that.

I enjoyed this well-written fantasy novel where the characters grew and changed over the course of the story. Avenie’s and Theoren’s concurrent plotlines are intricate. I love how they danced around each other, bringing the characters together, tearing them apart, and then bring them back together, each now having a completely different perspective on themselves and each other through the trials that they had gone through.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

The story begins good, two story lives that are starting on a journey. Avenie, princess of Rayterre, and the Red prince from Jasper Belt, Theoren. Both betrothed to each other without their knowing. Interesting to read when you don't know a person, your imagination gets a hold of you and you expect the worst of each other. While Avenie is very brave to meet her destiny, sent away by her brother after her fathers death. Theoren is not that brave and funny that he is widely known as a fierce warrior, but now he is a coward and finding ways to avoid meeting Avenie. But as always, destiny has a way to find you. Even though, sometimes we all want to escape our responsibilities.

I loved the story until the end, light hearted at some point, full of blooming romance, beautiful written scenes of the landscape surroundings. The dangers that they are both facing, but they conquer it all. I love the touches of magic in a land that doesn't have to seem any. I was captured from the first word until the end. But I was so happy for Avenie and Theoren, that everything ends well as by reassurance of the writer.

Royalty may have its privileges, however if you are a princess of Rayterre you may just up a chess piece on a political game of power. This authors ability to weave such a spell binding take captivated me from page one. I truly found myself wondering if this ill fated pair would find their way to each other through each of their challenges. Side note- I cant be the only one who second guessed Allin. Loved this and looking forward to more tales from the Naimonet ! All of my reviews are always voluntarily written.

Sadly not for me :(

First off, this book had a gorgeous cover. It grabs your attention and is so intriguing - it’s why I wanted to read the book.

Within a few pages though I was confused. Names, titles, places - all throw at the reader and half the time I couldn’t work out who was being referred to.

Finally the story moved past that and I just failed to connect with any of the characters.

As the story dragged on I started skipping pages - before just reading the end.

It was an intriguing idea with a wow of a cover, but the plot wasn’t there to draw me in, and nothing made me care about the characters.

Interesting story!!! I must say I haven’t read a story quite like this before. But i am so glad that I did! I really enjoyed reading this. The main character despite everything that has happened she is very strong and finds love unexpectedly. what turns out to be tragic ends up happily ever after. I was rooting for her prince the whole time! So happy the way the story ended. Wouldn’t mind seeing more of this story! What a surprising twist I didn’t see coming!

This is great! Avenie is strong and determined, great character. Theoren is just as strong and determined but a bit more stubborn. A chance encounter with his betrothed is an eye-opener. The tides soon turn in many ways for this couple. I read this in one seating, I had to know what would happen. Their journey is full of danger and betrayal that only the strong can survive. In the end, these two see clearly that they are meant to be together. I received a copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.

This book was the second in the series. Avenie and Jasper were both betrothed to each other at a very young age, but neither knew it. They conquer all the dangers that came their way.
The story had a light hearten romance to it in which I enjoyed very much. I would recommend this book to anyone.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s well written with great characters. Although Princess Avenie has gone through some tough times she is strong. It’s a book that’s hard to put down once you start reading. I recommend the series.

A story of 2 strong willed, stubborn people, dead set against a marriage arranged by their fathers when they were children.

Set against a medival backdrop, this book has the power to hold a reader captive. I simply loved it.
