This entry in the series has a lot going on, Hazel stumbles onto a possible abduction with Jeese, Aunt Linda has been taken away by the Witches council, more of Hazel's family arrive in Wormwood. I really like Hazel, but we haven't gotten to know much about any of the other characters, all seem shrouded in mystery. We learn a little more about Jeese

More Harry Potter references there is a cupboard under the stairs and

Finally the ending was satisfying, we are given lots of information, and a glimpse of whats to come.

The third book in this series and it is the best so far. Hazel starts getting answers about her family and her community as well as herself. A fast-paced and action full novel. I can hardly wait for the next book.

Who did it?
Out to make a delivery Hazel runs into Jesse and of course, he tags along and they find a mystery. Now if that is not bad enough Jesse has acquired Hellion Gray old shop and is opening up a PI business. Now you are going to find some super twists in Ruby’s cozy and some great one-liner like “Hemlock and Hazel… the magical dream team.” There are a lot of questions in this one. What going to happen to Hazel’s aunt Linda? Did Helen just disappeared or is she dead will there be more? What does Jesse really want? Who is B? Who is Hazel father? Is Tristan really more than just a friend and what kind of trouble will Hemlock get into? This was another fantastic cozy with a super cliffhanger to boot. I love all the characters, the plot was fun and the book was engaging. It is a 5 star all the way. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Wow!! This book makes you feel like you are right there taking part in the mystery. Lots of action. Hazel has her own hellhound. But how can that be? Two witches disappear and it looks like an animal dragged them out of their homes. There is a new person in town. Who is she? What is the mayor up to? What happened to Jesse? Hazel has earned the coven's respect. Get a copy and come along on this worldwind ride and find out how that happened. Well thought out plot and very well written.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.

This series just keeps getting better and better.

In this third book Hazel is growing into her powers, which is just as well as she needs them, big time.

The story finds Hazel "helping" the police look into the disappearances of two witches.

Alongside this Hazel is trying to find out more about her father, but no-one will answer her questions.
She is running out of people to trust.

Add in snarky humour, a visit from creepy relatives, a prison break, hellhounds, and the worst familiar ever and you have a delightful read.

I received a copy of this book for free from the author as an ARC and have voluntarily chosen to review it.
This story caught my interest immediately with the description of the murder. It was new and different. I find that very refreshing in a series when they are not all carbon copies of each other.
Hazel continues to grow in her magic and her private life. It is nice that she is finally learning something about her family and heritage.
This is an excellent story and I definitely recommend it.

An intriguing yet funny mystery

I was lured into reading this mystery series with the promise of talking cats, but I have ended up becoming engrossed in the story and mystery itself. I was a little put off at first by the silliness of many of the characters’ names, but I got past that pretty quickly as I continued to read. The main character is quite a mystery herself— what kind of being is/was her father, and what kinds of abilities will we see her develop? I’m hoping that this series doesn’t end soon— I am enjoying it far too much! :)

Feverfew and False Friends #3 - Very dark and intriguing and fun. This may be my favorite and it is more substantial with its storylines, but I'll see what the next addition to the series brings. The continuous and new storylines are interesting; some keep developing the original theme and some bring more mysteries of the future. Same old characters, with one or two new added to the mix, that are becoming more rounded. There are plenty of doggies; OK, hellhounds that add an original twist, which I loved. The mysteries were good, but I actually like the confusion and tension that Hazel has to deal with about herself and her coven and a few others. I contacted the author to review her books, many series ago. Her writing style and talent keeps growing with each new book. 4*

The Witches of Wormwood:
Hemlock and Hedge, Prequel - A different approach to starting life as a witch after the death of her mother sets up the foundation in this introductory prequel. Basic development of characters but since this is a series, Ms. Loren will be having plenty of character growth as the series progresses. Interesting storylines, which of course will develop more, too.

Again there's an interesting animal involved; the familiar is a hoot with intelligence. Working together although unbeknownst to Hazel, she and Aziraphale solve the mystery. Aziraphale's secret comes out along with other secrets. There's good suspense and intrigue, and the thought process used to solve the mystery is good, but Ms. Loren writes more substantial plots than the usual cozy genre. I contacted the author to review her books. 4*

Mandrake and a Murder #1 - Takes place about six months after Hemlock and Hedge ended. There are a lot of secrets and surprises included in this fast paced, intriguing story. More characters join the cast, some good and some intriguing and some not very nice to be polite. The storylines twist here and there and some are concluded, while others carry into the next book - but no cliffhangers, just teases of what's to come. It's hard to pick a favorite characters since there are quite a few that are endearing or just plain loveable. There are more likeable characters but the nasty ones make themselves known. 5*

Vervain and a Victim #2 - Getting better with each addition. I knew Jesse wasn't an angel nor did I think he was the devil himself. Missed not seeing Hedge, but he's there. Got a lot of happenings in this story filled with intrigue, suspense and a touch of humor. The characters are filling out more as their roles increase. There are several surprises or kinks in this well thought out, fast paced story. Ms. Loren does a great job with her descriptions, her storylines and that snooty cat. The Aunties are giving a little bit or two about Hazel or events, but they're involved in a bit of trouble; the ending isn't exactly a cliffhanger, but a heads up to rough sailing ahead. I contacted the author to review her books. 4*

Hazel is continuing to run her small shop in Wormwood, with just one of her aunts, as her other aunt has been locked up by the Witch Council for previously being involved in turning all the members of the Council into slime. Out on her deliveries and she finds a crime scene. One of the ladies she was delivering to, hasn’t answered her door. The door is unlocked, so Hazel enters and what she sees leaves her shocked. A trial of blood leads out of the back door and into the woods behind the house. There is no sign of the owner, a witch.

She calls the police and a threatening letter is also found, addressed to the witch, who is part of Hazel’s coven. Hazel gets a similar letter and so do some other witches. Another witch disappears in very similar conditions and with the same gory path out of the house. Jesse is right alongside as she finds the second crime scene and so at least she has an alibi of sorts for this one. More people get threatening letters and it seems they are being told to reveal a secret or face the consequences.

Someone obviously knows a lot of secrets about the witches and others in Wormwood and is blackmailing them to do as they wish. Or else! Everyone is turning against each other and some secrets have been hidden for a long time and aren’t quite ready to be revealed. Hazel finds out a little bit more about Jesse and is also forced to accompany her aunt on a prison break. Her black cat Hemlock is still as cheeky and lazy as usual. She found that Hedge belonged to Jesse and the huge hellhound she saw with Hedge was also linked to Jesse, but she gets her own hellhound. That’s because there is another demon in town and she is up to something.

Hazel is smack bang in the middle of everything that is happening. Trying to keep her coven together and happy, dealing with the police and Jesse, her aunts, Hemlock, her local newsletter and still wondering who her father is. There are a few more surprises about her mother’s family to come, giving her some understanding as to why her mother moved away from them and was never in contact. Nothing is ever quite as it seems in one of these stories and always give you a few more surprises each time you read another one. This is becoming a really interesting and fun series, with something unusual happening in the town, with each new book. Would recommend to anyone who likes any of the author’s other series’ and other books in the same vein. Good, fun reads every time!

Hazel was on her way to Helen’s house to deliver some tea she had formulated to help treat her migraines. Along the way, Jesse joined her, not taking any of her hints to go away. Hazel tried the door since the doorbell might aggravate the headache, and she saw it was unlocked. As soon as she and Jesse stepped into the dark room, she smelled the blood. Jesse turned on a light that revealed lots of blood and gouges in the hardwood floor – but no body. He took off through the house looking for Helen. In the kitchen, it appeared that an animal had dragged her body out the door. The same claw marks were visible in the kitchen. And Hazel found a note on the counter that said “made a mistake”. A crumbled ball of paper had writing that implied someone was blackmailing the victim. They saw a trail from the kitchen to the Wormwood Forest. Jesse pulled out his phone and called the police.

The activity level in this third book is definitely increasing, giving the reader a ton of loose ends to manage. Hazel’s Aunt Linda is in trouble with the Witch Council and Hazel hopes to rescue her somehow. Keeping her coven on track also needs her attention. Jesse is hanging around and Hazel somehow isn’t sure it’s a good thing that his eyes are the same color as hers – whatever that might imply! And a serious situation has her worried when two witches have now disappeared, somehow tied to an animal attack. How will she manage to keep everything moving in the right direction? How will she discover the identity of the murderer – without becoming a victim herself? And what does one do with a hellhound???

The author did a great job with this book. I was impressed with the great amount of detail that actually made the story very realistic. The dialog among the characters was very natural and flowed well. Relationships were quickly established and it was easy to determine friends, acquaintances, irritating people, and such. When an author allows a reader to “live” through the action rather than reciting what one should think or feel, it pulls the reader right into the story line. Altogether, this makes for an excellent mystery that the reader shares and participates in with the main characters. Definitely an excellent choice for your reading pleasure!

Wow! This series just keeps getting better and better. I love it!

Hazel is on delivery and happens upon Jesse. Jesse who has been absent for months now, naturally shows up out of the blue. What could this mean? Yep you guessed it, another mystery. Mystery always seems to turn up when Jesse is around. This time one of her own coven has disappeared. It looks as if something dragged her away.

Detective Sean Admiral is on the scene and this time he seems to be trusting Hazel a bit more. But the mystery of the missing coven member is just the tip of the iceberg.

In the last book her Aunt Linda was taken away by the Council for crimes unknown to Hazel. Things get rather dicey when Aunt Minerva suggests a break out. With surprise family showing up in town, Hazel seems to feel a darkness is coming. Can Hazel discover what is going on or will more coven members disappear?

These books have a bit of everything for all readers. Mystery, danger, action and a tad bit of romance. Not a lot of romance this go round, but I am hoping Hazel gets a bit of it next book. I always thought maybe her and Tristan might have a bit of something, but I am not so sure. Sean seems to be trusting Hazel more and the more he trusts her the more he opens up and shows a side of him that she is pretty sure no one else sees.

Overall this book is a page turner of fun and Hemlock tends to be the life of the party. I can’t wait to see what direction this series takes next, especially with the bomb dropped on us at the end of this book. Hazel is right. Something is coming alright. And it might just be the end of happy life in Wormwood.

If you love a good cozy mystery, full of paranormal fun, then this book is for you. From talking cats to hell hounds, this book is sure to keep you reading for hours on end. So pick up your copy today. If you are just discovering the Witches of Wormwood, then pick up the prequel Hemlock and Hedge and let the adventure begin.

The story line in this book has so many twists and turns you can't stop turning pages! Beginning with Hazel delivering a special tea to help Helen's migraines, while Jesse tags along (she just can't seem to shake him) and finding lots of blood and gouges in the floor, a virtual massacre without a body, to hellhounds, to Hazel starting to harness her magic, to secrets, blackmail letters and a second gruesome death; both of which are witches from Hazel's coven where she is high priestess. Since she has sworn to protect the witches in her coven, she sets her sights on trying to solve the cases and find the missing Helen. Hazel is able to get a few secrets from Jesse, but will he answer all of her questions? Then we have Detective Sean Admiral who wants Hazel to keep her nose out of the case...or does he? What is behind his change of mind every few minutes! We have a new devil that comes to town that even Jesse is wary of. We have Hazel's aunt Linda being arrested and held by the council with aunt Minerva plotting to spring her and we have some of Hazel's other family members that seem to show up all of a sudden: her uncle Constantine to be exact. Add to that, the cliff hanger end to the book that makes you crave the 4th in the series asap. And of course, who can forget Hemlock, Hazel's cat familiar who would rather eat than protect or help Hazel as he offers snarky comments to almost everything Hazel says. Wow put it all together in one book and you have the winner of all winners! Can't wait to see where things go from here. I received and ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Hazel, why are the hounds of hell at your heels?!😧

Hovering around 4 🌟 stars
I loved the disappearance/suspected murder mystery part of this story. Once again, Hazel Salem's sharp powers of observation lead her to the right culprit. There are so many other subplots going on with family, townfolk, visitors and the odd dangerous animal or five! Maybe a few too many🤔.

Hazel's grumpy and snarky familiar Hemlock gets some priceless LOL scenes and Hazel's fortunes in the pet stakes change. She's not as lucky with her relatives as she learns about new ones and has to help deal with the fallout from her aunt's past actions. The family drama appears to have nothing to do with the disappearances and, in my view, distracts a bit too much from the murder investigation. But it is building to flesh out Hazel's origins and how she fits in, something that has threaded through the whole series, so I accept that it's useful in the bigger series picture.

The story is well-written, the heroine eminently likable, and Wormwood's townsfolk are suitably strange. I just wish the story had focused to a greater extent on the murder mystery.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

This book had several story lines going at once. Hazel is busy trying to figure out who she is, and what she can do. She wants to help her aunt who the mysterious council has taken despite her aunt Minerva’s unwillingness to discuss it. The mayor is acting suspicious and when 2 witches in her coven appear to have been attacked in their homes by a wild animal and are missing Hazel is determined to find out what’s going on! Just when you think that is enough to keep Hazel busy her long lost family and head of the Salem’s uncle Constantine shows up. Who upon realizing how strong Hazel is he starts his manipulations and schemes to get her to join him and the others and leave aunt Minerva and Linda behind. This book had a lot of action and plenty of new info on the main characters. Just when you think their can’t be any more surprises there are including who Hazels father is. This was by far the best book in the series and I’m anxiously awaiting the next one!
I highly recommend this book and this series!

So if you are a fledgling witch, still trying to determine exactly what powers you have - and a few seem a bit demonic, and others ... ripping a hole in time/space, seeing and communing with Hellhounds, magically producing weapons out of nowhere. Cool talents for Hazel to have, but hard for her to deal with alone, as Minerva is forced abroad to deal with Linda's challenges.

Hazel is starting to come into her own - no more fake beau with bakery Tristan, Jesse disappears, not infrequently, Sean sometimes seems friendly-ish - though aware of supernatural, not aware she is demon-ish, maybe and he is strictly human as far as she knows.

Demon deals are brokered hot and fast - and Hazel comes awry of them.

She works to get the coven working together, rather than against each other.

Miles to go, little help from her goofy cat familiar, but maybe some canine help, of a sort.

Hazel is proving very interesting - and more excitement seems to lie ahead.

hyped for the next episode in this exciting ongoing story!

Feverfew And False Friends is the latest release from Ruby Loren's Witches of Wormwood Mystery series. The story was interesting but too long winded to keep my attention for long periods of time.
Another problem I had with this book and the previous books in the series is the high number of uncertainties included in each book. Not a fan of non-answer dialogue between characters. If the purpose of these "I can't tell you" moments are meant to prompt the reader to have an "aha moment" similiar to a well placed foreshadowing event let me be the first to say ... the intention is failing miserably.
Simply put, there was too much secrecy present in the book to keep me glued to my seat. If characters don't engage in meaningful dialogue where is the incentive to read? It's ok to shroud some details in secrecy. However when the number of details being kept secret surpasses the number of details known to the reader I believe the author is failing to achieve his or her goal which is to tell a story. How can you tell a story when much of your story is a secret?

This is the third book in this series. We find out Jesse is a devil and we find the true purpose of his cat. There's another murder and Hazel could get in trouble for disturbing a crime scene. Her aunt Linda is still held by the Witch's Council.

Then there's threatening letters, Jesse wanting to establish himself as a private detective in the town, a person calls her who may have information on her family, there's another murder (or are both really murders?), some pig's blood instead of human blood, a plan to break her aunt Linda out of the Witch Council's prison, someone who seems to want to kill Jesse, an unexpected friend in a hellhound and even more things going on.

So far I really like Hazel and the hellhound. Hemlock is too smart alec for my taste. The Witch's Council is a typical organization, running things any way they want to and even having their own prison. I would have thought some one would have developed a way to strip a person of their magic permanently.

Still, it remains one of my favorite witch-oriented series.

More murder, excitement and learning for Hazel. Hazel is in for more adventure again. She is now the high priestess of her coven in Wormwood and takes her new position seriously. While making her deliveries she discovers a horrific scene at the home of Helen Regal, a member of the coven. Later, a similar scene at another member’s home. As usual, Hazel starts looking into the circumstances of these scenes. Meawhile, the feeling of a “dark” cloud hangs of Wormwood. Hazel can’t shake the feeling. Also, Aunt Minerva has decided that the time is right to rescue Aunt Linda from the prison of the Witch Council. With all these things going on Hazel is still learning about her powers. Jesse has competition in Wormwood with another devil and Hazel’s family appears without notice. Hazel has her hands full! Read to see how Hazel makes it safely out of this adventure. Exciting, scary and a page turner – must read. Follow the series!

When Hazel walks into the second house splattered with blood, she knew that something was very ,very wrong. The first one could have been written off as a prank or a fake attack, but when it happens again, someone is out to get witches and the police being human, are not much help where the paranormal are concerned.

Hazel is beginning to grown in confidence and is beginning to find out about her powers as the series goes on. It is good to see that she starting to accept that her magic is not the same as the other witches' nor does she have gifts that the others have but instead, different ones and that is OK. Although each book can be read as a standalone, I am glad that I started with the prequel and walked beside Hazel through each of the books. Cannot recommend this series enough - great read. Impatiently waiting for the next book. I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

I loved this book so much, I couldn’t put it down, not even for my favourite tiramisu! Hazel has to step up her leadership skills, when two of the witches from her coven are seemingly dragged from their homes by a wild animal. Add in a complicated jail break to free Aunt Linda, a desperate detective, the appearance of sinister relatives and a devil with a missing hellhound and it’s a good job that her magical skills are continuing to expand and develop! As usual the stroppy Hemlock is no help, but will Hazel’s new animal companion, mean he will up his game? I can’t wait to find, but I’m guessing he’ll just lay back and watch more daytime TV, while attempting to conjure up even more dubious spells! This series gets even better with each action packed story. I’m completely addicted to this series and not even an ARC copy could influence my review.

The third book in this cozy paranormal series shows the progress Hazel Salem is making as she strives to master her magic, and learn to lead her coven. Her snarky black cat familiar, Hemlock, still drives her crazy, but with an auntie locked in jail, her remaining aunt finally starts helping Hazel while plotting a jailbreak!

Good characters, a more developed, well-written storyline, with good detail and realistic dialogue, this third installment pulls the reader into the action, instead of just "telling" the story. And the ending, with a twist or two (didn't see these coming!), makes this the best of a great cozy witchy series.

I received and ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review with my honest opinion. I liked it so much, I also bought a copy (to go with the rest of the series I'd purchased)!

Hellhound hath no fury

The Wormwood series gets better and better. Jesse Heathen, devilish dealmaker, has competition. There's a new devil in town & residents are flocking to make deals with both devils. When two members of Hazel's coven seem to have been murdered by Hellhounds & dragged off, Hazel is puzzled. Add to that poison pen letters that don't make much sense. Much to Hazel'surprise Aunt Minerva insists on breaking Aunt Linda out of the Witches Council prison. Even more surprsing, after their success, the aunt's high-tail it out of town. As the feeling in impending doom intensifies, Hazel comes race to face with the new devil & her 4 Hellhounds. And that's not all the story. The series is best read in order. The prequel is free as of this review. I'm sure this series will enchant you & keep you breathlessly waiting for the next story. I know I am.

Hazel is just full of surprises in this story. Who would have ever thought she was capable of such? I just really don’t know who I would trust in Wormwood. People don’t seem to be who you think they are. Mortals seem to think it would be great to be able to do magic, but there certainly is a lot of responsibility that should go along with it. Would you like to be in charge of a coven of witches? I do wonder about Hazel and Sean. Hmmmm, well, guess we’ll wait and see. I wouldn’t mind having an Erebus hanging around. That could prove to be quite useful. I can’t help wondering what the Mayor has up his sleeve. Oh, and what about that other shoe dropping? I can’t wait to learn more about that! I received an ARC of this book, but my opinion is my own.

Another pet but one with more bite

Awesome. A wonderful read full of magic, hellhounds, devil's, witches and murder. The new power she's displaying is terrific and it's only just the beginning. Isn't it?
She is out delivering tea and comes across not only Jesse but also signs of a horrific murder. Blood splattered walls, signs of a struggle and of something being dragged out of doors towards the woods. No body has been found. Another murder, getting her aunt out of jail, poison pen letters, deals with the devil, someone trying to undermine her as High Priestess and having a hellhound onto a member of the coven. Who has been making deals? Who is the killer? Will she survive? Will having a new pet work in her favour? What will she now find out about her father?

Two members of Hazel’s coven go missing after receiving threatening letters, so when Hazel herself receives a letter she puts herself on the case to solve the mystery. Can she figure out what is happening in Wormwood before she too goes missing? With the help of her trusty (difficult & snarky) familiar Hemlock, she discovers it might have something to do with her aunt, so it looks like a jailbreak might be in order.

This is the third book in a well-written cozy mystery series. Readers will find a great mixture of wit, wonderful characters, paranormal beings, mystery, a bit of suspense, and lots of crazy adventures. This has just enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged until the very end.

Hazel is having a difficult time trying to figure out what she is. Her powers are different than what other witches around her are capable of doing. The mysteries are growing and the cloud over Wormwood is growing darker. Love the world building, you feel like you are right there in Wormwood. The characters are amazingly real, some are definitely easy to dislike, you just know they are bad news. Others thankfully are easy to like, especially her Aunts. Enjoy the crazy antics of Hazel’s snarky cat and the menagerie of animals that is starting to grow. A fun and entertaining book series. I purchased a copy of this book and am very glad I did.

Good

Two mysterious murders in town have Hazel investigating, while her aunts have a spot of trouble to deal with.

Hazel's sleuthing skills begin to make her new friends, even as she is beginning to find out more about who and what she is and the skills that come with it.
It's building on the stories that went before, meaning this isn't a standalone - but the series is an enjoyable one with some interesting characters.
Some of Hazel's questions are answered in this book, and actually raise a few more questions.

An entertaining and enjoyable paranormal cosy mystery, this is a quick read for those who love the genre.

I received a free advance review copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. While out making tea deliveries, Hazel runs into Jesse and he walks with her to her first delivery where they walk into a gruesome scene. Two witches go missing! Hazel discovers one of them while out delivering organic Easter eggs. After rescuing Linda, both aunts leave. So much going on it's a page turner and Hemlock is his usual snarky self, especially since Hazel brings home a new "pet". I loved this story and recommend it.

These keep getting better!!

Hazel just keeps getting better and better at her craft. Witches are disappearing with a lot of blood left behind. Is it a wild animal or something much more sinister? Hazel is finally getting some respect from the coven as their numbers start to dwindle. A jailbreak, hell hounds, devils in the details? All that and so much more!! This series just gets better with each book! The town and the people are so well developed and it's getting harder and harder to figure out the mystery! Can't wait for the next book!

I received an ARC. This is my honest review.

This is the third book in this very enjoyable series and for me the best so far. The author manages to combine a clever murder mystery with an intriguing paranormal background, where Hazel is gradually coming to terms with her growing magical powers, and she is beginning to find out more about her background.
The characters in the author's books are always really well drawn and display consistent behaviour, making them very believable.
I received an advance copy of the book but have voluntarily written this honest review.
