Rate this book
Fans of Cathy Bramley, Debbie Johnson and Jenny Colgan will fall in love with the Cosy Kettle café, where slices of lemon meringue pie are served in the sun-dappled garden – and where Callie’s new beginning collides with an old flame…

After yet another failed romance, twenty-six-year-old Callie Fulbright is giving up on love. She’s determined to throw all her efforts into her very own, brand-new café: The Cosy Kettle. Serving hot tea, cherry tarts and a welcoming smile to the friendly locals proves to be the perfect distraction, and Callie feels a flush of pride at the fledgling business she’s built.

But her new-found confidence is soon put to the test when her gorgeous ex reappears in the quaint little village. She’ll never forget the heartache Noah caused her years ago, but when they bump into each other on the cobbled streets of Honeyford she can’t help but feel a flutter in her chest…

As Callie and Noah share laughter and memories, she starts to wonder if this could be her second chance at happiness. But when Callie discovers that someone is mysteriously trying to ruin the café’s reputation… she has an awful suspicion that Noah knows who’s involved.

Was she wrong to ever trust him again? And can she find out who’s behind the lies and rumours, before it’s too late for the Cosy Kettle?

I live on the south coast of England with my family, and write heart-warming, emotional women's fiction and romantic comedies.

When I've notched up my daily word count, I enjoy reading, walking by the sea with friends, singing in a local choir, and watching TV. I love sci-fi programmes and still harbour a childhood crush on Captain Kirk.

This was a sweet story bursting with charm, friendship, love, and second chances!

Just like a cherry tart this book was sweet and satisfying! This book was filled with A plethora of things I love in a book; A lovable main character, a wonderful small-town setting, a cast of interesting and quirky characters, and an adorable second chance romance. Not to mention that a book shop features prominently in this book, and who doesn’t love that? Liz Eeles has spun a story guaranteed to make you smile and leave you wanting more!

The book starts out with Callie running late to work and worried because this will not impress her new boss. Callie lives in a charming small town and works in a quaint bookshop. Callie’s New boss Flora is understanding and she also want some input on how to improve the bookshop. Callie has an idea of bringing in a coffee maker and before she knows it she is in charge of opening up a new café. Callie is not only busy with the café opening, but she is also busy dodging her ex, her first love, Noah. Noah is back in town after being absent for eight years, he also has moved to New York and is only back to help his brother with some renovations. Of course Callie and Noah keep crossing paths. Perhaps Callie had made some wrong assumptions all those years ago. But when someone tries to sabotage the café Callie does not know who to trust. Will Callie and Noah re-kindle the flame?

There really was such a remarkable cast of characters in this book. Callie was so likable she really had a heart of gold and there was so much growth in her throughout this book. Stanley, Callie’s 80-year-old grandfather stole every scene he was in. He was going through a bit of a late life crisis wanting to skydive, run marathons, and no longer sugarcoating things. Becca was another character that really really stood out to me she was a young lady with anxiety and a sweet spirit, she had a vulnerability about her that really touched me. There are so many other wonderful characters in this book and I strongly encourage you to pick it up so you can meet them all! Absolutely recommend!

Twenty-six-year-old Callie Fulbright lives with her Eighty-year-old Gramps Stanley after her mum upped and left to live in Spain with her toy-boy. She also works at the local book shop in Honeyford. Her boss has retired and a new owner, Flora, is taking over. Not sure what to make of her new boss, Callie is eager to impress but day one doesn’t start out well with her running late after trying to persuade her Gramps not to put his name down for a parachute jump.

Flora is stern but fair and soon realises that Callie has a knack for helping people and listening to their problems. Flora also listens to Callie’s suggestions for the shop and how some improvements could increase customer numbers, including a little coffee shop at the back.

Giving her the green light, Callie sets about making a little cafe for the locals and tourists to enjoy with the help of some new local friends. The cafe, The Cosy Kettle, also gives her a reason to keep active when she discovers that the local old manor house is currently being renovated into a posh hotel and the owner is none other than Finn Shawley who used to live in the village and helping him with the design is Callie’s ex-boyfriend, Noah.

Callie and Noah split eight years ago and haven’t spoken since, but she’s all in a fluster as he is still rather hot but with the past and Noah living in New York Callie knows that nothing could ever happen between them.

I occasionally like to read a good rom-com in-between my reading of thrillers and New Starts and Cherry Tarts at the Cosy Kettle was certainly a good read, in fact, I’d say it was a superb read. I started reading it one night and only put it down when my eyelids started drooping. Upon waking I immediately picked it up again and read until I’d finished the book.

Callie is a lovely young woman with a big heart. She loves to help people and is one of those individuals that those with problems find easy to talk to. She is caring and considerate. She was in love with Noah all those years ago but he did something that broke her heart just before she headed to university, so once there she broke up with him and has never seen him since.

Noah is now a successful architect living in New York. He is back in Honeyford helping his brother Finn in his latest project to get his daddy’s attention. Finn has always been a lady’s man, where Noah was in love with Callie and hadn’t even realised what he did was the reason for their break-up.

Flora is a woman trying to make a success of her business after her mum left her some money. Her husband is not very supportive of her and doesn’t think she should have invested in the book shop.

My favourite character has to be Stanley. He was so adorable. Turning eighty has seen him have some sort of epiphany (and reading a book on life). He has decided that he’ll be dead soon so why not make the most of living. He wants to make the most of the time he has left, which includes dressing how he likes – think skinny jeans and Taylor Swift T-shirt. Saying what he thinks, even if it upsets others and maybe chaining himself to a few trees to protest.

The book is filled with warm-hearted moments, has plenty of charming characters and a few wrong’uns too. Plus there are lots of laugh-out-loud parts.

This is a book that will have you smiling from ear-to-ear throughout and leaving you with a desire for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake!

Callie Fulbright wants nothing more than to impress her new boss, Flora, at the bookshop, but she never expected to be given the task of opening an adjoining café. However, after it takes off, Callie finds herself juggling a ragtag group of regulars and a Gramps who’s suddenly … well, a bit extreme. And that’s before the biggest heartbreak from her past, Noah, comes rolling back into her tiny Cotswold town.

Sometimes an author crafts a book that feels so natural and effortless it makes readers want to dip into the pages and settle into the world. Author Liz Eeles has done that here. The Cosy Kettle is an utterly charming café inside a bookshop in an idyllic village— what’s better than that?

A huge part of what makes this book work is the heroine, Callie. Smart and focused, she initially struggles with self confidence. It’s completely realistic. Stuck back in her hometown without a solid career and living with her grandfather, she’s at a point in her life where she feels stagnant. However, as her boss gives her more responsibility and her friends and family challenge her, Callie plunges head-on into uncharted territory. As the café progresses, so does she, and these moments of self-discovery are absolutely joyous.

The secondary cast of characters really puts this book over the edge. Gramps is also concerned with bettering himself, though his version takes the form of skydiving. Flora struggles with building the bookshop into something both profitable and community-oriented. And then there’s the bookshop regulars— each bring their own insights and problems to share over a cup of coffee and a pastry.

Of course, there’s a bit of romance in the air, and Eeles gives it proper attention. Callie and Noah have a complicated yet totally believable past. They so obviously belong together and yet Eeles does everything in her power to keep their interactions thorny and packed with so much delicate tension. It’s more than effective, resulting in a satisfying conclusion.

It’s sweet, quirky, and a fabulous slice of small town Cotswold life— just perfect for reading with a hot drink and a pastry.

What a lovely, fun feel good book. Wonderful read from cover to cover and speaking of covers, look at this book's cover. It's delectable, so pretty it just invites you in to start reading it.
The characters are charming, though some may be a bit eccentric, grandpa we're talking to you here. Very engaging story, the setting is wonderful and the story line fun and easy to follow.
I'll be on the lookout for more books by this author.

I cannot resist a cover with food on it - and that's even more the case when it's not just food but baked goods. Can you blame me for wanting to check out New Starts and Cherry Tarts in the Cosy Kettle?
And that's not even mentioning the bookstore present in the story - which isn't even mentioned in the synopsis and totally should be! Especially since so many of us love reading books where a bookstore's in play - no matter in what way.

Apart from that, I honestly loved the setting Liz Eeles created. A small village with everyone knowing everyone, beautifully described views and buildings and a whole cast of intriguing characters.. That's pretty much the perfect combination for a light, contemporary read.

You feel like the world's going dark and closing in and crushing you, until you can't breathe. And there's nowhere to go because you can't escape from yourself. Though I wish I could.

Especially the characters though! Apart from Callie, our main character, and Noah, the love interest, a huge place goes to her eighty year old grandfather who's.. maybe going through a bit of a life crisis with all the things he's up to. But that's exactly what makes him such an interesting and fun character.
He wasn't my favorite though. That one goes, without a doubt, to Becca - a younger girl with social anxiety. She stole my heart right from the get-go and.. I truly hope she maybe gets er own story one day because I'd love to find out way more about her.

It's good to spend time doing what's best for other people but sometimes you have to step up and do what's best for you - and for your true self.

Another thing that made me enjoy this novel even more so, is that the focus isn't really on romance. It's more about Callie trying to figure out what she wants, taking on some challenges and.. finding a more fixed place in the small community she lives in. Not to mention trying to handle her grandfather's antics.
Sure, the romance was there but it felt to me like it was way in the background compared to other things going on. Which is probably for the best, since I didn't feel the chemistry between Callie and Noah? They're supposed to have a past together - however briefly - but I didn't feel it. It was simply there - their feelings and love and whatnot - without any building up to it. It could be me though, but I'd say that after eight years of no contact, there should be more small moments and such before going all "I'm still in love with you"?
In any case, this isn't that big of a "bad thing", simply because the focus was more on other events and since that's one of the things about this novel I enjoyed most...

If you feel like reading a contemporary romance where the focus isn't really on the romance, but more on the events in a small, wonderful community - this is definitely a good option for you!

I have a huge obsession with British Chick Lit and Liz Eeles is one of my absolute favorite authors when I need a feel good and fun book! I adored her last series and while I was excited she was starting a new one with new characters and a new town, I was also a little nervous about connecting with a whole new group. That was silly of me because I’m just as obsessed with this new series, it was fabulous and just SO much fun and absolutely perfect for spring reading!

Per usual the author has created a protagonist that I loved right away, Callie is so warm and lovely and I was rooting for her right away. She works in a bookstore which is something I fantasize about when I think about running away from my life 😜 and watching her open a cafe and simultaneously learn many things about her own strength of character was such a delight. The secondary characters are just as engaging and endearing as Callie and as it’s the start of a brand new series, I can’t wait to see more from them in future books.

This was just such such a charming read, the setting is perfect and gorgeous and the author always manages to bring these little villages to life for me and makes them so easy to picture. I loved everything about this one and recommended it for those days when you need a pick me up, it’s ideal to chase a bad day away, it’s got humor, heart and romance, what more could you want?!

Completely delightful story that crept up alongside me and enveloped me with a huge hug. It is warm, cosy and has one of my all time favourite characters in it.

In fact lets start with Stanley, Callie's, 80 year old gramps. He is trying to be his true self, after all these years, and apparently that means he has become to the untrained eye a bit eccentric., He wants to jump out of planes, campaign against injustices, swimming in his underwear and is now rather straight talking.

He is also a support to his granddaughter Callie, and without a doubt any chapter or scene he is in, is a lot brighter and more enjoyable as a result.

Of course Callie is the main character and the Callie we see at the start of the book is quite different to the one at the end. I adored Callie - she may be a bit of a people pleaser but does it in such a way you can't help but warm to her.

She is working in the local bookshop, and trying to please her new boss Flora, when she suggests changing an old stock room into a cafe. Flora puts Callie in charge of the project and The Cosy Kettle is born.

There is a group of regulars in and around The Cosy Kettle, all with different reasons for being there, but a real sense of community and friendship is growing between them all, and I loved seeing how it all developed.

But while work is going well for Callie, its her personal life that is complicated, when the boy who broke her heart 8 years ago returns, with his brother and from then on Honeyford, is anything but sleepy and the story becomes even more fabulous.

The Cosy Kettle really is just that, its very cosy and I loved the whole feel of the book. Liz Eeles has written lovable and relatable to characters, a welcoming new location, and I'm delighted that I was able to spend time with Callie and her friends.

This is an easy to read, enjoyable story, that had me smiling a lot, laughing at Stanley and all over gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. I just hope this isn't the last we see of Honeyford and these wonderful people.

Thank you to Noelle Holten and Bookouture for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Brilliant book from the first page simply difficult to put down as you just want to keep reading. The characters are brilliant and the plot to the story is brilliant has you hooked all the way through with many twists and turns. Full of romance and being happy in life and of course plenty about cakes and coffee to and books such a good interesting read. The countryside sounds so delightful you think you are there with them.
Callie has lived with her grandad for many years now in her quaint little village that she grew up in and she works in a book shop she's given up on love as had another failed relationship. She has a new boss at the book shop and she enjoys chatting with people and comes up with an idea of turning the back room that isn't used into a little cafe and her boss is all up of it. When she's out in the village she sees someone from her childhood that she doesn't want to see. It's Noah an old boyfriend and gave her heartbreak years ago she she really doesn't want to see him but he sees her and wants to be friends. She shows Noah and his brother her little cafe that she's opened and the brother says it will never work but she wants to prove him wrong. She starts to share her life with Noah and has laughs and she wonders if she is in for another chance of happiness. Sadly she stars getting negatives comments on her cafe site and she thinks it is Noah brother but when she suggests this Noah turns and says it couldn't be so can they come back from this but then when Noah realises something he has to apologise but he heads off back to his home and she knows they have no chance of being together. Can they come back from everything and be together and what will happen when callie is given a great chance at doing something she would enjoy what will she choose and can she find that romance or not.
Worth far more than five stars.

What a lovely book from first to last page! (and the cover!!!! oh my gosh, it's so pretty and colorful!)It was the first time that I was reading a book from Liz Eeles and I can tell you that it won't be the last! This book was everything I love! The settings is lovely, the characters are all very interesting and complex, the romance is not too straightforward and too easy, the storyline is super interesting and exciting (I didn't feel bored for even one second) and Liz Eeles's writing style is easy and smooth. I can't wait to read the sequel to this book because if I understood it well, there will be a sequel! Can't wait!!!!

I could start this review with repeating myself and saying that I just can’t resist a book centred around a food cafe. But I would just be repeating myself over and over again. So let’s skip that part and concentrate on the fact that this is going to be a very positive review, once we get one little annoying thing out of the way.

What is this synopsis all about? I can be completely wrong but isn’t a synopsis not meant to tell the future reader what the book is going to be about? Or at least highlight the strong features of the story so people will be drawn to it? None of that with New Starts and Cherry Tarts at the Cosy Kettle. After finishing this lovely story I reread the synopsis again and basically apart from the names of the characters and the fact that there is indeed a café I could have read the synopsis of a wholly different book.

When I started reading I was quite confused. I found our main character Callie hurrying to her job in a bookstore after she tried to convince her grandfather not to go skydiving or swimming in the local river naked. See I told you two very important things about this book that will probably make your heart beat a little bit faster. And it only took me 2 sentences.

Yes, this book is set in a bookstore. I know… fast beating heart, because well we are all booklovers here. So a book that is set in our natural environment will just make is happy without even reading it. And our main heroine Callie is indeed starting a cafe, hence the name The Cosy Kettle, but the café is set in the bookstore. I know, now you are just having heart palpitations. I loved reading about the new owner of the bookstore and Callie trying to find her place after Flora took over the bookstore.. Flora is a wonderful woman, who is always willing to listen to Callies idea about the store and the café. She really respects and supports Callie and together they make a remarkable team.

So what about that skydiving, skinny dipping grandfather I hear you think. Yes, I really got you interested there. Callie is living with her grandfather who is one of my favourite characters so far this year. I absolutely loved his part in the story. Callie’s gramp has had a rough time himself and after reading a new age article he is trying to become his true self. An 80 year old men who wants to go skinny dipping, scuba diving and running… it is quite something different. But I absolutely adored the dynamic between Callie and her grandfather.

The story is filled with lovely side-characters who all have their own little storyline. There is Becca, a young woman who struggles with her social anxiety, but is so lovely and charming that I loved her from the first appearance in the story. Mary, a new mother who is trying to find her place again after becoming a mother. And so on… so many lovely people fill the Cosy Kettle and make it feel like home, even to you as a reader.

And of course there is some romance in this book. But and this is a very important but this story isn’t very heavy on the romance. 80% of the story is about Callie figuring out who she really is and what she wants to do with her life. Of course her old flame Noah brings some romantic moments into the story, but there aren’t a lot of them and for me that was quite a good thing. I just couldn’t really feel any chemistry between Noah and Callie. They had a very short relationship in the past, when they were teenagers, but even that wasn’t enough to make me buy into their love story. Now it felt a little instalovey and I think it would take more than a few conversations and kisses to close a gap of 8 years.

But apart from the romance that wasn’t quite believable I absolutely loved the story. I wish I could go and have a cup of tea in the quint little Cosy Kettle right now. I can hardly wait to visit the town of Honeyford again and learn more about Flora.

I was sucked in by the beautiful cover on this book! So colourful and some luscious looking cakes...

The synopsis states that 26 year old Callie opens a new cafe "The Cosy Kettle" but what it didn't say is that the cafe is based in a bookstore. That is 2 of my favourite things right there! It was lovely reading about the bookshop which was under new ownership (Flora) with Flora listening to Callie's excellent ideas and giving her newfound confidence in opening the cafe with Flora's backing. I so enjoyed learning more about some of the customers, who end up as friends, and could see how welcoming the bookshop and The Cosy Kettle would be.

Flora lives with her awesome 80 year old Gramp who seemingly has a new sense of life and is determined to live it to the full as well as say what he means which leads to many comical moments, I'm sure I snorted on one occasion! He was an excellent addition to the story, with a solemn aspect too in terms of his beloved wife (deceased) that added real heart.

Noah is an ex-boyfriend of Callie's with who she had a fleeting relationship years ago that ended in 2 broken hearts - he is back in town working on a new project and I was relishing finding out if the 2 of them could forget the past and forge forward together.

Overall this was a thoroughly enjoyable read that had me laughing, smiling and touched me at times too. The author's note at the end states there will be another visit to Honeyford and I can't wait to dive in to that already!

My many thanks to Bookouture via NetGalley for providing me with this advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

Callie Fulbright works in the Honeyford Bookshop in the little Cotswolds town of the same name! When the owner sells to fearsome Flora, Callie wonders if things in the bookshop will stay the same. When she puts forward to her new boss the suggestion of opening a coffee shop attached to the bookshop, Callie is very surprised when Flora not only agrees but gives her the job of organising it! Whilst busily redecorating the shop’s old storeroom, Callie can’t help but be distracted by the arrival of her ex-boyfriend, Noah Shawley who has come home to help his brother Finn renovate the historic Manor House into a boutique hotel. Can she forgive and forget the heartache that Noah caused her the last time she saw him 8 years before?

I’m a big fan of this author having read the previous series based in the beautiful Cornish surroundings of Salt Bay, so was excited to be given the opportunity to read this book! This book is set in the little town of Honeyford in the Cotswolds. The tourist town sounds delightful and is definitely somewhere I could see myself strolling through on a hot summer day, browsing through the quaint shops described (obviously the Bookshop is a definite and the sweet shop sounds quite nice too!)

The story grabs me from the very first page, meeting the character of Callie Fulbright and her “gramps” Stanley. Stanley was a fabulous character, an octogenarian who sees himself as being a young fit man still, and our first time of meeting him we discover that he is preparing himself for a Sponsored Parachute jump for endangered butterflies. As the book goes on, Stanley finds more and more things to do to make Callie worry about him, and I found myself chuckling at his antics and Callie’s despair of him! He certainly likes to say whatever comes into his head without thinking of the consequences first!

The other characters within the book are also wonderful! Whilst there are quite a few characters for such a little town, they are all memorable and likeable and fit into the story perfectly. Callie’s new boss, Flora was one who I didn’t think I was going to like (and neither did Callie), but she turned out to be the kind of boss you’d want to work for! Coming across initially as a bit of a ‘dragon’, Flora lets her guard down slightly and lets Callie discover the kind and caring person she is! I’m so pleased to see in the acknowledgements at the end of the book that the next book in the series is going to be Flora’s tale as I have to admit, she was my favourite character!

The other memorable characters (what am I talking about….they were all memorable!) were the two Shawley Brothers who have returned to the town after 8 years absence. Obviously there is some history between Noah and Callie, but this is slowly revealed as the book continues. Noah seems absolutely lovely and I love how his relationship with Callie redevelops! Finn, despite being a well-known ‘ladies’ man’ is also absolutely lovely in his own way, but I did go through a few chapters thinking that he would drive me absolutely ‘pulling out hair’ crazy if I knew him!!

The storyline was absolutely spot-on! I mean, it included my two favourite places – a book shop and a coffee shop! What more could a girl want! (Can someone please print me out the directions to Honeyford!!!) The descriptions of all the books on shelves, new stock and comfy chairs made me want to transport myself right now to the shop, and reading about the cups of coffee and plates of lemon drizzle cakes made my taste buds tingle! Callie is definitely a natural when it comes to working in both of these shops and is one hundred percent a person that her customers seem to gravitate to and want to be around! The writing of this book was superbly done with so many funny parts that I found myself laughing all the way through! It is a definite page turner and I literally could not put it down once I started it! It’s a warm and endearing story with plenty of laughs and giggles along the way. I love how the characters are so realistic right from the boss’s sleazy husband to the overwhelmingly tired new mum. It’s a delight to read, the story flowed so well and before I knew it the story was all over and I wished I read it slower to be able to enjoy it that bit longer!

I can’t wait for the next book and really look forward to being caught up in Flora’s story just as much as I have with Callie’s!! Fabulous!! Highly recommended!

This book was always going to be a winner for a dessert foodie like myself. With a gorgeous front cover (pun unintended) and a book synopsis that mentions lemon meringue pie, it was as though “New Starts and Cherry Tarts at the Cosy Kettle” was written especially for me, though the title is a bit of a mouthful! Are there any other reasons for wanting to read this novel? Well, of course! Despite the impression that it’s set in a Cafe, it’s actually mainly about a book-store which is just as good.

After yet another failed romance, twenty-six-year-old Callie Fulbright is giving up on love and instead, she’s putting all her efforts into running her very own, brand-new café: The Cosy Kettle in Honeyford, a beautiful and picturesque Cotswold’s village. Serving hot tea, cherry tarts and a welcoming smile to the friendly locals proves to be the perfect distraction, and Callie is very proud of her fledgeling business.

However, her confidence is soon put to the test when her lovely ex reappears in the quaint little village. She’ll never forget the heartache Noah caused her years ago, but when they bump into each other on the cobbled streets of Honeyford are her feelings for him rekindled?

As Callie and Noah share their laughter and memories, she starts to wonder if this could be her second chance at happiness. But when Callie discovers that someone is mysteriously trying to ruin the café’s reputation, she starts to suspect that Noah knows who’s involved.

Can Noah be trusted? Can she find the perpetrator of the lies and rumours, before it’s too late for the Cosy Kettle?

The opening chapters drew me into the story and captured my attention immediately. There was a lot going on and many of the characters were very funny and easy to relate to, particularly Callie. Some of the other characters in the book were extremely amusing and unusual, like Callie’s Grandfather, Stanley.

Liz Eeles’ writing style is very natural, with a good steady pace. Delightful and entertaining “New Starts and Cherry Tarts at the Cosy Kettle” is a quick, light read for all Romance or Women’s fiction fans. It’s a great book with which to curl up on the sofa on a cold and windy night, or any time, really, with a mug of hot chocolate and a slice of cake.

Although I haven’t read any of the other books by Liz Eeles yet, I intend to in the future and I wholeheartedly recommend this one.

This was a very enjoyable feel-good contemporary book set in a small town. Callie works at a local bookstore and she gets the opportunity to open and run a café in its backyard. Two brothers return to the town to renovate an old manor into a hotel and Callie is not very happy about it because one of them, Noah, is her ex-boyfriend and their relationship didn't end on the best terms. When they start running into each other, Callie realized she is still into him but knows that nothing serious can happen between them because Noah currently lives in New York.

I enjoyed reading about the characters, I liked how Callie used the opportunity to finally prove herself and that she poured her heart into her new project. The romance was cute. There was a character with anxiety, which was a pleasant surprise, and I thought it was handled pretty well. The small town was charming, although as someone who grew up in a small town, I often don't find this kind of setting to be very realistic but maybe I'm just bitter because the only book store we had closed down when I was a kid.

There was a touch of mystery, which felt a little bit ridiculous because the answer was obvious (I was hoping for a bit more exciting resolution) but mainly, it was just a very cozy and fun read that exceeded my expectations.

My goodness. Liz Eeles' writing is like chicken soup when you're unwell. Lovely, warm, comforting and just what I needed. For anyone who loves Cathy Bramley (and I do) I highly recommend Liz Eeles.

I love a great British countryside romance novel and Callie's story has everything I could have asked for and more. I was laughing, sighing contentedly and hoping for Callie's happily ever after.

Also, her grandad is my spirit animal.

This is a cosy haven of a read for all book lovers, it’s full of warmth and relatable characters that you would love to meet and probably have! The authors descriptions enabled me to visualise the bookshop and the cafe, which enhanced my ability to be transported into this easy read with a tinge of sadness but eventually a lot of happiness.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Not only does this book have the best name ever, but it was also such a lovely book. Effortless to enjoy and it flew by. My audiobook was super entertaining and I loved the story as soon as I started it.

Our main character, Callie, was easy to get behind and root for. She’s the ultimate people pleaser and has the difficult task of wrangling her larger than life and not afraid to speak his own mind grandfather. I loved all the characters in this and I can’t wait to rejoin them all again in book two.

If you’re after a cosy book set in a homely bookshop then look no further! Callie also sets up a friendly coffee shop as an adjunct to her beloved bookshop and let’s not forget the handsome brothers who sweep into the village like a whirlwind. It’s well worth a read (or listen if you’re an audiobook fan).

'New Starts and Cherry Tarts at the Cosy Kettle' was a delightful read! It was cute, cosy and charming. I loved reading about Callie's character development and the set up of her brand new business venture. I think I enjoyed this so much was becasue of the small town feel! Nothing gets me more excited about reading a story than feeling as you are part of a small community!
The only reason this wasnt a five star read for me was because of Noah, he was just a weak love interest in my opinion... There were multiple times he didnt stand up for Callie and his personality fell a bit flat.
Otherwise, I did really enjoy this story and am excited to start the next adventure staring Flora :)

This was the best warm fuzzy book ever. It had everything from goofy characters (Gramp was a hoot!), heartwarming friendships, an FMC who finds out her talents because of people who believed in her, a nerdy love interest, and it all takes place in one of my favorite places, an adorable small village in the Cotswolds! I laughed and cried happy tears at some parts. I loved it so much, I jumped right into the next one!

Callie has her life, quiet as it is, planned out and stable, or at least she thought. Her grandfather Stanley, who turned eighty and then stated “living his best life” with plans to skydive, participate in “wild” swimming and speaking the unvarnished truth to friends and those around him means she’s never entirely sure what will appear with the deliveryman next. Add to that, she’s got a new boss at the bookshop she’s spent the past 3 years working at, and she’s already dancing about with being late on the boss’ first morning. Never the boldest person at the best of times, Callie spent her childhood trying to avoid her constantly bickering parents – while they loved each other it seems as if their relationship hinged on the frequent and constant arguments that sent her off to her grandparents’ house for quiet – where she was welcomed by Stanley and Moira, fed Battenberg cake and could hear herself think.

Callie’s new boss, Fiona, is pulled together, successful and appears to be in control – something Callie aspires to, and while Callie’s nature is calming and comforting for those around her, her own ability to access her emotions, particularly the unpleasant ones, or those that will cause conflict, preferring to smooth over tough patches and tell herself that it’s not a big deal, or that she didn’t really want to say something in that moment. Here is where Liz Eeles excels – she creates characters that feel plausible and possible, those that encourage empathy and always have that one friend (or more) who pushes for them to be more confident – cheering them on because, at heart, they are lovely people who deserve all the best things possible.

And, Callie’s got those friends, both from her school days and as a result of her nurturing and kindly nature, not to mention her grandfather Stanley, who, while he seems to be off with the fairies in his own ‘discovery’ of his new and more adventurous self, mostly a result of his missing his wife and son, Callie’s father – their deaths hit him hard, and with some encouragement from a Sunday Magazine article that comes with the paper, he’s full of new ideas, pity ‘new-age’ sayings, and wearing skinny jeans with t-shirts meant for tween girls. But this, as much as it’s a story of a small town and the goings on, it’s also a story of Callie growing and changing, learning to speak her mind and allow those emotions she’s stuffed down to escape, and discover that, despite her own lack of self-confidence, there’s far more to her than one might think. All the ‘ones’ that is, with the exception of her friends and her schoolboy crush/boyfriend Noah – and once they work out just why they split, and where they could go – the pieces of the puzzle that is life (at least in that moment with not one, but two, successful tea shops under her belt) Callie’s got more on her plate when she truly FEELS happiness and excitement.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

description

I think I fell in love with the cover of this book the moment I saw it, it just gives me that quirky fun-loving feeling that you just knew you had to read the words inside. This book was a total delight to read and I think I loved almost all of the characters in this wonderful world of Honeyford in this second chance romance/ chick lit. I have laughed and laugh with this author's British slang and crazy situations that Callie’s Grandfather Stanley found himself in or just plain old planning to do. This is the first time I have read anything by this very talented author and I would be very happy to read anything of hers again.

Callie Fulbright has my perfect job she works in a small town book store, her life must be perfect don’t you think? But no Callie has her hand full with her beloved Grandfather who she now lives with and watches over; she is back in her home town where she feels happiest. Callie’s self-confidence takes a rise when her new boss takes on board her ideas to help improve the bookstore. But this is store lived when she learns that the brother of the only boy that has broken her heart is back in town and he looks like she will be here for a while, Callie really hopes his brother does not return as well. When she is offered a great opportunity at work Callie is unsure what to do but then her Grandmother words come back to her.

“Make the most of your potential, Callie, she’d tell me. And always follow your dreams,”

Noah Shawley walks right up to Callie in the street near work and it’s almost the last eight years have not gone by at all. She decided she cannot go there again and puts all her energy into opening up the Cosy Kettle café and making a tone of new and helpful friends along the way.

“He’s the only man I know who can make me angry, excited, dad, and desperate to tear his clothes off, all at the same time. Basically, I decide, Noah Shawley is emotional kryptonite.”
How is trying to bring Callie’s hard work down on social media?

Can she help to keep the bookstore open and give her friends a place to meet at the sometimes as keeping her grandfather from trouble and worry?

This book is more about self-discovery, friendship, helping others and family way more and love and romance. It is also a sweet read with a lot of British languages that I totally enjoyed reading. I received this book from NetGalley and Publisher in return for my honest opinions.

A new series by Liz Eeles author of Annie by the sea series.

I absolutely adored this beautiful book. What an inviting start. Such a pretty cover. Makes me want to sit outside in the spring eating cake and being surrounded by beautiful scenery.

In this book we meet Callie who has been working for the village book store for a really long time. The old owner has now retired and has sold the book store to a new mysterious owner. The book starts with Callie being very late for work, ending up smashing her phone and not making the best of impressions on the new owner Flora.

Flora has brought the book shop. Needing a new project as her husband works all the time in a michaline started restaurant. Who thinks that her new adventure is a waste of time.

But Flora is determined to make it work. When she realises that she has a worker as dedicated to the store as she is going to be, who the customers love because of her compassion and understanding, and who also has many plans to make the book shop great again.

One of these many plans is to open up a cafe in the back area. Where they have a courtyard. The plan is for people to be able to come and buy a drink and a cake and to sit and talk to people from the village then later on their way out peruse and buy a book or two.

Things are going great. But there are lots of challenges along the way. One being the very dashing Noah. Who was the first person to break Callies heart a few years back. Since that heartache Callie decides that she would no longer fall in love. Noah has been living it up in New York. But is back to help his brother restore the old Manor House. Callie tried her hardest to avoid Noah. But he ends up being everywhere that she is. They share laughter and memories and soon could there possibly be a spark resurfacing again? Two hearts calling each other back together?

Then we have Stanley. Adorable, loveable Stanley. Who is Callie’s grandfather. Who is my favourite character of the whole book. Who has recently read an article in a magazine that tells you to live up to your full potential and be the best that you can be. There are lots of great scenes and moments with Stanley. Some of them very funny and some that really touch your heart. Stanley reminded me so much of my own Grandad who I miss very much and it was just lovely to see Stanley come alive in the pages of this book.

This is a completely delightful book. One that has a lot of heart and that will warm your heart and leave you smiling from ear to ear. Highly recommend to all.

I am at the age where long name of a book with colourful cheery cover indicating a romantic story inside shouldn’t attract me but I am. I am because the cover was beautiful and poped with cute things and the synopsis seems something else beside a romantic story. That lead me to request the ARC copy and the book didn’t disappoint me.

First of all a book shop is featured in the plot and who can resist to love it? The main character, Callie is so lovable and I love her more as she worked in a book shop and she had a dream of her own to do something. Callie is a small town girl living with her grandfather. She is the person with a golden heart. I was bound to fall in love with the character Callie. She is so caring and always look after of others.I love how she worked so hard in charge of the cafe and use every chance she got for it. There was a entrepreneur hiding in her I must say.

I love the character Flora, Callie’s boss. She is very understandable and full of fresh ideas like Callie but not at all bossy still push people to use their potential. Every character in this book is so likable. They are very well written. I don’t expect a light read to be such realistic and relatable. Readers will love Callie’s 80 years old grandpa. He is a old brat who stole every scene he was in. I wanted him more. Stanley is the charm of this book. Other character are also very well written.

The romance in this book between Callie and Noah is also very much enjoyable as their conversation, their scenes, the confusion and imagination in Callie’s head about Noah is very much practical. It’s cute but not cheesy. They are adorable. Though I think the ending would be better if it ended where Noah got back to his busy life. That’s my very own opinion.

You want a good laugh, smiling ear to ear and want to full your heart with warmth, this is book to go.

*I voluntarily reviewed this book from Netgalley

As I have come to expect with Liz Eeles books, NEW STARTS AND CHERRY TARTS AT THE COSY KETTLE enveloped me from the very beginning and finishing this wonderful story was like saying goodbye to family when I turned the final page.

In the lovely community of Honeyford, Callie has the love of her family and a new career as she sets up the Cosy Kettle - a fabulous cafè with desserts that will make your mouth water. She is happy with everything except her non-existent love life. But when the boy who broke her heart all those years ago returns home, Callie cannot help but feel that familiar pull in her heart. But can she and Noah ever be more than friends again? And when someone tries to destroy the business that she has poured her heart and soul into, is it just paranoia that Noah seems to know more than he is letting on?

I loved absolutely everything about this story. The characters are warm and engaging, especially Callie's grandad, and the setting comes alive in such a way that you can picture every place and smell the cakes as they bake. There is friendship, strength, determination, romance, and some misunderstandings along the way, and it all combines to create a spellbinding story that is sure to impress cosy fiction and romance fans alike.

NEW STARTS AND CHERRY TARTS AT THE COSY KETTLE by Liz Eeles is an excellent story that will warm your heart and make you smile and I highly recommend it to everyone!
