Three basic premises guide this highly successful introductory first, that theory and research must be both comprehensive and clear, second, that the text must show how sociology is relevant both to the study of society and to students’ lives and third, that sociology can play a valuable role in teaching critical thinking skills. To that end, this well-respected text combines a balanced three-perspective approach with excellent student-oriented examples and distinctive social policy sections.
Great book to use for sociology though it would have been better if my teacher actually applied it to class. In theory I enjoyed the sociology, at least the book, but the teacher wasn't all that great. :( Taking this with anthropology and psychology really clicked and linked together wonderfully.
Let's be honest, I'm not really reading this. I read like the first chapter and look back in it when my teacher makes us. Otherwise, no one cares. We're on Chapt. 7 at the moment.
This is one of my fav textbook and I learned a great deal from this book when I was first introduced to this book. I also used this book as reference for countless number of project papers for my social science studies as if there are no better references.
In brief, people who are interested with Sociology should get this book. Used to own the older version which is in my junior's hand now. I will definitely buy a new copy when I can because this book is just that good!
