I absolutely loved this story!! The duo authors Rowan Porter & Noah Harris wrote a fabulous paranormal, shifters book.

Dragon’s I love and the twist in this story, for me, was the shifter knows as Jaryn. He has no sense of smell, so he cannot read other shifters; not their mood, not the type of shifter a person may be, or danger. Worst of all he couldn’t smell has own true mate if he met them.

The King and Queen ruled over all shifters and their son Prince Rhys was soon to take his father’s place and had been told for years he had to have a mate to take the throne. A subject that the Prince has pushed off for as long as he could until he could find his own True Mate; which is a rare occurrence.

In the meantime, at 20 years of age, Jaryn’s life is turned upside down. His only living parent had been his mother who now was dead from an auto accident. He had to quit school to take care of his 12 year old sister and pay back the unexpected large sum of money to the Royal family that he had not known about until that moment…where was he going to get a job?

Through a friend of his mother’s who worked for the Royal family had gotten her a job at the palace to pay back the large loan. Now after her death it was Jaryn’s problem and as luck has it, her employer/friend offer Jaryn her position so he could continue payments.

On the night he had a walkthrough with his new boss to go over what he would be responsible for; a very distraught Prince, in dragon form, lies in the darkness and smells the sweet scent of his mate. He had to meet this young man. Of course later when they meet, Jaryn doesn’t know the Prince is his True Mate due to his lack of being able to smell.

So the Prince spends as much time with Jaryn as he can, hoping his mate would eventual smell him. Never happens, but a blooming relationship develops with time and Jaryn has hopelessly lost his heart to the Prince. With the Prince enthralled with Jaryn, and Jaryn being the person who took Kyrice’s place as Prince’s servant, showed pure hate towards Jaryn. But worse, having been in the Prince’s bed twice, this servant had stolen the Prince from him and a future with his Prince.

Kyrice may try to interfere, but Jaryn’s own self-doubt about the positions the Prince and he has along with his own self-criticism is Jaryn’s worse enemy. I couldn’t help love both Prince Rhys and Jaryn’s characters. They are kind, sweet-hearted men and True Mates that fit together.

There are any wonderful scenes in the book; their romance for one, and the crazy scenes of a scorn, jealous lover. You have to read it to appreciate the writing of these two great authors. I was captive to the book at page one and had a hard time putting it down for the night. I finished it the next morning, it’s that good! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

3.5 🌟

This story was amazing, I wasn't expecting to like it so much even though I really enjoyed the two shapeshifters books I've previously read by Noah Harris (this was my first time reading something by Rowan Porter, though).

I'd not because I didn't totally liked how it's told, my rating would be much higher.

Let's start with the bad things XD I can't deny that I'm not a big fan of present time, much less if it present time plus third person. If it were first person maybe I would enjoy it more because it would have made the narration more personal and it would help the reader into getting inside of the characters mind. But as this was told, it's not exactly how I like it most. With all, once I got used to it it wasn't such a problem and I got into the story with no problems.

What I most disliked was the fact that most of this book is told and not shown. Yeah, let's get full into the tell versus show debate lol I'm not normally really picky with this, but I found this book the perfect example of how important showing is.

I won't say it got boring, because it's not true... But sometimes it got undeniable... Dense? Let's go with dense, yeah. Many chapters are full of unending internal monologues from both of the main characters, them going on about what they think and feel, and couldn't help but with the authors had shown more of this instead of choosing this monologues to convey what's happening.

Some chapters needed some dialogues to make everything flow better and I find this to be a pity, and the major reason why I can't give this title an higher rating.

I'm regards of the story, I absolutely loved the first half and rally enjoyed the second one. The story starts strongly, with Jaryn having to go back home and dropping of college after losing his mom to a car crash. It's heartbreaking how much he and his sister suffer and I felt it for them.

Rhys is the prince of all shifters and is kind of losing hope of finding his true mate until Jaryn appears. I'm not really fond of "true mates" and "destiny" plots because most of the times it feels like an excuse to validate an instalove. This time, however, Jaryn has an biological problem that prevents him from discovering his destined bod with the prince (while the prince is aware of it from the first time he smells the kid). Lucky me! This plot twist allows both of them to get to know each other withour the "we are meant to be together" hanging above their heads, and I so loved watching them fall in love.

The second half is more action centered, it's the part in which they both must fight for their relationship to work and to overcome the hardships, the changes and the threats. I truly enjoyed this because it's interesting and nicely developed, but once again, I couldn't help but feel that something the story needed to show more that tell. Once again, such a pity.

I have always been a dragon lover. I mean, give me a romance or a fantasy book that stars dragons and I don't have to think twice before reading it. Sea serpents? First time for me and I truly liked it. Sea serpents and amazing, both beautiful and dangerous, in a completely different way than dragons, that's it.

In short, this was a good story, more interesting that I was even expecting and with two main leading characters I couldn't help but like a lot. I would have loved to know more about Jaryn's mom and her relationship with Donovan or even about the origin of her debt (which somehow we forget about somewhere in the middle of the story). I think this universe could give us many more nice stories and I would love to discover more about Sea serpents. A pity it's an standalone, right?

Total Score: 5/5

Summary:
Before you start reading this book make sure you have plenty of time because you won’t want to put the book down until it is completed.

Jaryn and Rhys come form different worlds and times. Rhys lived through the shifter wars and will be the next King of the shifters with all the responsibilities that go along with it. Rhys has waiting a long time to find his fated mate and doesn’t want to settle even though everyone thinks he should just pick a mate. Jaryn recently lost his mother leaving his and his little sister Cordelia alone in the world. When he learns that his mother owed a lot of money and was paying it back by working at the palace. Working as a servant is worlds away from college, but Jaryn will do anything to take care of Cordelia. Rhys is about to give in when he finally finds his mate, Jaryn, working at the palace, but for some unknown reason Jaryn doesn’t recognize his scent. Rhys will not give up and is determined to win his man.

This was a wonderful and fascinating story that pitted modern society against the political intrigue found in court. Rhys represents the world as it has been for centuries while Jaryn has all the modern attitudes and problems that anyone his age on top of the responsibility of taking care of Cordelia. The differences between them were as surprising as their similarities.

This was a beautiful book filled with heart, suspense and love.

This fated mates, dragon shifter romance is wonderfully emotional right from the word go. A beautifully written story with everything I need from a book, great characters, engaging plot, heat, action and of course plenty of emotional highs and lows.
Following the death of his mother sea serpent shifter Jaryn, an omega, is now responsible for his kid sister but his responsibility doesn’t end there. Not only must he give up college but his mum owed money and Jaryn must work as a servant for the royal family to pay off the debt. That’s how he meets Rhys, the alpha dragon prince who is being pushed towards finding a partner, even if it’s not his true mate, so he can ascend the throne. But not everything is right with Jaryn, he considers himself broken and when Rhys recognises Jaryn as his mate, Jaryn doesn’t.
Jaryn and Rhys are two of the most loveable characters I’ve read in a while, they are indeed “ebony and ivory”. The support characters Delia, Donovan, the king and queen and even the baddie Kyrice, who I hated, are extremely well written and all add to the richness of the story in their own ways.
The plot is not particularly complex but it is extremely satisfying, keeping the reader guessing as to when, or if Jaryn will recognise his mate, often on the edge of the seat and always with an emotional edge. This is a slow build romance with some really hot scenes and a nice bit of angst and action thrown in. I loved the scenes where Jaryn and Rhys are getting to know each other and Jaryn’s love of collecting shiny objects is a key plot line that had me holding my breath at one point. The beach scene after Rhys takes Jaryn and his sister for a ride on his back and he sees the sea serpent for the first time is lovely and when Jaryn goes into heat so does the story!
There is a small but detailed mpreg plot towards the end which feels absolutely right with the epilogue nicely tying up everything and leaving the reader with a HEA and a warm fuzzy feeling. I read an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.

DNF @ 6%.

This is written in 3rd person, present tense. I'm not a fan of present tense, not at all.

Now, I only finished the first chapter, but at this point, present tense aside, there are already three things bothering me.

The first is the debt that his mother owes. It's $20,000. That hardly seems like such a crazy amount to freak out about from someone in university. You're student debt is going to be way higher than that. Most new cars would cost you at least $20,000. And I assume there would be some kind of insurance payout that could be put towards that that. I think I would find the freak out over the debt more believable if it was closer to $100,000.

Second is Jayrn's mother's boss. How'd he know that Jayrn's mother was dead? Didn't his mother just die the night before? Because they typically don't release the names of the deceased immediately. But, maybe more time passed that I could tell. In which case, that was not conveyed at all.

Third is, why would you bother attending your classes after finding out that your mother was killed in an MVA and that you will now be the guardian of your 12/13 year old sister? Especially when you know you have a 5 hour drive ahead of you?

I like this new direction in Noah Harris's writing, with a move to🐉 Dragon shifters and a gentle protagonist who takes some serious convincing to accept that he is worthy of a top-rate mate. The 🏰 palace intrigue gave some extra bite to the plot; new grief and protective instincts for his teenage sister also gave Jaryn a full-blown personality that was an intriguing contrast to powerful and confident 👑Prince Rhys. There's some limited heat in this one, but it's on the simmer throughout the story and boils over at an appropriate point. The latter chapters were thrilling, filled with suspense and action, and the finale hospital scene upbeat and heartwarming. 😊

Harris is one of my principal go-to writers in paranormal and MM romance. His subject matter and plot lines are so varied; I can't imagine how he thinks them all up! This story is a great addition to his catalogue of MM romances.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

These two talented authors have written a truly wonderful, entertaining dragon shifter romance. The plot is full of intriguing & unexpected events. The two main characters are unique & likable and they continue to develop throughout the story to become emotional strong individuals. The secondary characters play a good supporting role.
There is: a omega sea-serpent who has suffered the loss of his mother (Jaryn), his little sister (Cordelia), a alpha dragon prince (Rhys), a jealous ex-lover (Kyrice), twists & turns, intrigue, adventure, action, threats, tragedy, ultimatums, attraction, fated mates, jealousy, fascination, embarrassment, anticipation, verbal banter, manipulations, rejection, memories, inner restlessness, verbal conflict, emotional turmoil, accusations, misunderstandings, confusion, declaration, confrontations, adjustments, discontentment, abduction, devious plans, physical conflict, survival instincts, happiness, contentment, love, some steam & a well-deserved satisfying ending

Baffling attraction??

Prince Rhys is suffering from the stifling responsibilities of his position. He has lost his patience with his family being the head of their dragon clan. And his father makes it worse by reminding Rhys that he must find a mate if he is to assume his father's throne. Rhys is beside himself and so is his dragon to also desires his true mate. Will Rhys be forced into a loveless mating just for his family's and clan's sake? Jaryn is the other half of this dilemma. But he has a pretty heavy burden to bear. He has a genetic defect that because he's an albino shifter makes his life miserable. Theirs is a meeting of the minds but Jaryn holds back because of his genetic makeup. Whereas Rhys immediately recognizes Jaryn as his true mate by his alluring scent Jaryn can't respond because of his flaw. Throw in jealousy, political intrigue, imminent death, and intense urges and you have a great read from Mr. Harris. For my honest review I was given an ARC of this great story.

I enjoyed it

I enjoyed this book. I liked both the MCs, but I feel their communication could definitely have been improved throughout the story to show a little character growth. The sex scenes were a medium heat, for me, but went well with the story. Cordelia was a hoot, but I honestly didn't care for Rhys's parents at all, especially his mother. There was no real reason given for why they were pushing for him to take the thrown so quickly, and only one mention towards the beginning about a law that says he must be mated to rule. There was no reason given for this law, either, and no thought of simply changing it so he didn't have to take a mate that wasn't his true mate. I also think that Kyrice should have been killed. Imprisonment seems like a light sentence for putting the future heir at risk. So I feel the book did have some plot holes, but I was able to ignore them and still enjoy the story. If you like shifter mpreg books, you'll probably like this. It's not something I'll come back to and read again, but it was enjoyable.

*WARNING* explicit m/m adult love scenes
Jaryn was a typical college shifter until he received a call saying his mom was killed in a car crash. Jaryn became the guardian to his little sister and had to take over where his mom left off. A job at the palace was one of the responsibilities Jaryn had to take with his mom's passing.
Rhys is the Prince and his parents want him to take over as King, so he has to find a mate. Rhys wants to wait for his true mate, but his parents are already looking at possible candidates.
There was a couple of this I would have liked to have found out in this story. 1.) What wax the relationship between Donavan and their mom? 2.) What was the debt for? The book ended without answer to either question. Mostly, I liked this story. I think this a little like Cinderella, with the way Jaryn was treated because of his "deformity". Cordelia is a great character with a great balance of youth and sass. I liked that Jaryn's was able to overcome enough to stand up for himself when it counted.

Ebony and Ivory
Wow I loved, its enjoyable read. Though I read the blurb, yet the first chapter caught me off guard. But that what makes us human. Right? ;)
This story about loyalty, family and love. Full of diverse and contradictory emotions and lots of twisted events and interesting characters, yet with harmony, flow and ease just like the sea waves. (By the way, I adore Cordelia's character, frisky like my daughter and almost around the same age).
Briefly: Jaryn is a young man, sea serpent shifter, has glitter fetish, and he like to collected sparkle and shiny things and watch their reflection through the sunlight. In spite of that, he’s blind to see his own sparkle, his strengths and his true inner metal, he think he’s not worthy. While Prince Rhys, the ancient and expert dragon, he knows exactly what and who he wants, he’s understandable, passionate, patient, kind and perfect lover. Interesting Lovely story, hooked me on the first page. "I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book"

Fire From The Sea did not disappoint and I enjoyed reading it. The progression of the story begins in despair for both Rhys and Jaryn; Rhys due to a lifetime of loneliness and Jaryn a sudden death. As a result of the latter the two meet and loneliness is not on the cards anymore for Rhys. Of course when you live a few lifetimes you tend to pick up an enemy or two along the way, even if they are misguided. I love Jaryn, he is calm and level headed but beneath that cool veneer once threatened instinct tends to override his niceness. It says that this is a standalone novel but I wouldn’t mind meeting these two in another novel because it seems in their kingdom of varying shifters all are not satisfied with the future king’s mate. I’m so excited for more.

When you get a collaboration of two great authors and this story is the result, by all means continue to collaborate. So hint, hint, nudge, nudge.

Jaryn is a college student when his mother is killed in a car accident. Left as the guardian of his younger sister, he discovers he is responsible for paying off a huge debt she owes. As a result he ends up as servant of the ruling dragon's castle.

Once the Prince sees him (and smells him) he immediately knows he is his fated mate. Something Jaryn is oblivious to. Soon friendship and then attraction draw the two together.

Danger enters the picture when someone kidnaps Jaryn. Palace intrigue. Beautiful figurative language. Close family ties.

I received a copy of this from the author.

Questions I found myself asking;
What was Donovan's connection to Jaryn's mom? Why did Jaryn's mom owe so much money? What happened to Jaryn's dad? Why wer they estranged from their families? Who put the note in the Prince's chamber, and how?

Dragons are my new obsessions, and after watching How to train your dragon 3 (and crying!), i was happy to finally read this book. I need more dragon in my life. Period.

The book was awesom! I gave it 5 star so easily! Loved every page of it, and the characters were amazing too!

And how cool it was that Jaryn was a sea serpent and Rhys a dragon?! Coolest idea ever!

I loved Jaryn and Rhys too, and their relationship was so cute. Loved reading about their love, and the whole mate thing was so good! And the perfect thing? They were shifting into their animal form often. That scene was my favorite when Rhys shifted into dragon and he flew with Jaryn and Delia, it was so lovely♥

I loved Fire From the Sea. It has Dragon's, angst, sweetness, oh yeah and it is hot🔥Rhys is a dragon prince, but not just any prince, he is the Prince of all shifters. He is getting pressured by his parents to find a mate, but he doesn't just want any mate, he wants his true mate. He is about to give up hope of ever finding him, when he meets a young shifter named Jaryn. Jaryn is a beautiful shifter,( you will have to read to find out which one😉) with what he considers a disfunction, he can't smell. So Rhys knows right away that they are destined to be together, but Jaryn has no clue. Rhys has work cut out for him if he wants to convince Jaryn that they are true mate's. Will Rhys convince him, or will Jaryn let his "disfunction" get in the way of Fate?

Sea serpents, what's not to like

I received this book by the author and this is my honest opinion.
I'm never disappointed when I pick up a book from these authors and this one is no different. I love finding new creatures that are far from the norm and being enlightened to all that makes these creatures, in this case a sea serpent🐉. It also dealt with this sea serpent Jaryn.who happens to be an albino and who cannot scent his mate though Rhy a Dragon shifter can, so it plays around with can rhy convince Jaryn and woo him to be his mate.
This brings some themes of fairy tales to this plot, from eatings of hearts, servant falling in love with the prince, it was just a really good read and I liked the journey till the end. Great characters and slightly grimm ness essence about it though obviously a little fluffier. Would definitely recommend. Love the cover as well

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. This book was a great love story of how even if your different you still find love. With the death of his mother, Jaryn had to take up debt she had collected. Dropping out of university to raise his younger sister and work off debt. Rhy had been looking for his fated mate for along time when he meets Jaryn he gets his wish only Jaryn is albino sea serpent which mean he has no idea about it. When a rival Omage tries to cause trouble how will the fated pair work out? Will the king and queen  believe the lies? Running Jaryn off before Rhys can even tell him the truth, or will the evil omage get Rhys all to him self again? Just because your different doesn't mean you always weak.

Mr Harris, on top of his game, nicely done! Jaryn & sister Cordelia recently lost Mom who was working off a debt as an indentured servant to the palace.Jaryn takes over his mother's debt to provide for his sister. Rhys lives through shifter wars and will be next King. He choses to wait for his fated mate and not settle. Rhys recognizes his mate's scent on Jaryn who doesn't sent Rhys. So, now begins the chase/courtship. Rhys is old school. Jaryn is a modern man of modern thought. Can these two become friends coming from different stations in life? Can they connect and find common ground? Will Jaryn let Rhys in? Wonderful characters. Steady, fun interesting theme. This book is a keeper! Well done Mr Harris! This story is set apart from others because Jaryn gets his prince early on. We actually get details of life AFTER he becomes royalty. The way Rhys goes about courting Jaryn is sweet and practical. I loved the tidbit about the sparklies. Jaryn hoards shiny things so he can watch the colors in sunshine. That was sweet.

The story is told in the third person and that creates emotional distance so it reinforces the fantasy. I sort of skated above the storyline - heh- kind of like a dragon swoops through the sky. It added to the fairytale quality of the storytelling, like a gentler version of Grimm's. So you will not get a lot of deep, emotional monologues. You will get a sweeping, journey reminiscent of a fairytale.

Jayrn is overwhelmed with the sudden changes in his life. Rhys is torn between what he wants and what is expected of him. Both men are weighed down by responsibility but find a sweet connection between them.
This is an interesting story with unique characters and an interesting storyline, there are secrets, tragedy, danger, great friendships, loving families, a slow developing love, and a satisfying HEA.
This story has a section that drags a bit, but once you get past that, it picks up again and keeps your attention until the end.

The flow of this story was great. It was nice to have both a combination of the fated mate trope and a slow burn in the same story, and it worked really well with the MCs. Jaryn and Rhys are from such different backgrounds (both in terms of age and wealth) that the time spent building a friendship allowed their connection to develop. Even with the time together their mating does not get rid of all issues, both internal and external. They have to work a bit to get their HEA, but it is such a wonderful journey.

I liked that Jaryn's sister is both an important character but doesn't overshadow the MCs in the story. I'm hoping we might see more stories in this world, I think there is room to see some more in this world (though I loved the epilogue in this story for making it a solid HEA).

Fire from the Sea was great and I’m not normally one that reads books about dragon shifters. This book was able to capture and hold my attention from the beginning. We were able to see the characters grow and with that their love for each other. The plot was exciting and filled with intrigued and action. There were tender moments that just had me “sighing” as I love to see characters that are willing to show their tender side.

The authors were able to take Jaryn and Rhys and bring me into their story almost immediately. I just couldn’t put the book down. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal books.

A Mixed Experience

While this story does have much going for it with two strong and independent MCs (even if one has a few excessively whiny moments) it misses it overall appeal because the ending is truncated and sudden and even with two authors no one cared enough to bother reviewing or editing before publishing. The number of incorrect words and bad grammar issues are frustrating and the sudden compression in the time line to reach the epilogue feels disingenuous.

With judicious editing and a better denouement I would give this 4 stars but as delivered, it receives only 2.

Good

Might contain spoilers. I liked this book and enjoyed reading about the two mcs. I did wonder about his mom's debt and how it was taken care of after he stopped working. I know it was owed to Rhys family but he didn't know that only that Ryn's mom was in debt. It was never mentioned again and I thought it deserved a conversation at least. Also wondered about Donovan and his relationship to Ryn's mom. They all carried one of her scales and their dad was never mentioned. I know he probably wasn't but I couldn't help wondering about that. Overall good book with interesting story.

Fire From The sea by Nosh Harris is the story of Jaryn and Rhys. It's a fated mates, shifter mpreg that delivers an interesting and entertaining story. I loved how their relationship started as an adorably flirty friendship and evolved into a strong mate vond/family. The characters were great- I loved them together and the supporting characters were fun. The story had angst, suspense, drama, action, sweetness, a couple sad points and lots of steam. Loved it!

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

It's always funny to read a story that makes you hot and also makes you want to cry at the same time. Death of a parent, raising a sibling and being an outcast from your people breaks your heart. Stumbling thru love, meeting the one that makes your heart stutter who also happens to be amazingly hot and panty melting? Please, bring it. This story has it all. I laughed, I cried, I held my breath and then sighed. I wasn't sure I was going to like it but I was so wrong. I loved it.

Urban Cinderfella with a Twist

I’m a fan of paranormal romance, urban fantasy and alternate history and this works for me.

I was looking for a short read and by no means is it too short it’s a complete book. However for a person who consumes books daily it was refreshing to read especially after reading an action packed one, an urban fiction and now this urban fantasy.

If you want a wider scope of the shifter m4m realm this will be a great introduction to what I hope is a long and adventurous story.

Kudos to the author for being amazing.

The Dragon Prince Rhys fiinds his mate. He is due to be King soon but he doesn’t feel ready. Jaryn comes into his life and the castle after a tragic event on his own family. Jaryn’s circumstances are so unique, he doesn’t even know he has found his fated mate. He will have to prove he is worthy though. I had fun with this romance, lovable characters, good plot and dragons! But also one species I never read a paranormal romance about.
