“Being soul mates doesn't mean you get along and never fight. It means there's someone in your life who completes you.”
Alex has given up on love, and why shouldn’t he? As an ex-gang banger with a long list of enemies, he’s not exactly perfect husband material. He did what he had to do to stay alive, and if that meant running with a gang and tarnishing his reputation, then so be it.
But one day, after fleeing the gang that had given him protection for so many years, he comes across a magical town called “Whispering Hills,” where soul mates can seek each other out and live happily ever after… If they are willing to wait for each other. He finds himself drawn to this town as if by a supernatural force, where he meets Jake, who awakens a passion in him like none other.
The ghosts of Alex’s past will not rest easily, however. When a dangerous foe from his former gang rears his ugly head, Alex knows that both his love for Jake and his courage to start his life over will be tested to the limit.
Can love really conquer all?
Note: “Country Alpha - City Omega” is a steamy shifter Mpreg 64,000-word novel set in a paranormal Omegaverse. This male/male romance contains male pregnancy and is intended for adult readers.
I think that there is a lot of potential with this series as far as the world building and rules of the town and shifters go, and if the author can get better editing and a bit tighter narrative going on, I think it will be a great, killer series!
What I enjoyed about this most of all was the slight difference in the shifter abilities. In this world, the alpha and omega don't gain access to their shifter side until they meet and mate. Once that is done, it unlocks their animal half and all the perks that come along with that. Because of this, there are people in Whispering Hills who found their way there who have been waiting for their match, some longer than others. If a person cannot grasp the idea that shifters exist, they go into what is called Disbelief, what I could only think of as a form of insanity? Would love to see that expanded on in future stories.
I enjoyed Alex and Jake - I can totally get Alex not wanting to sleep with Jake right away when he's being told all this nonsense about shifters, and Alex is still on the run from the gang leader he has stolen from. Jake is an alpha who has been waiting for his mate for years, whose own history and backstory in the military is tragic, and who yearns for a mate and kids. Their connection builds through the story, although I did feel like a bit of the connection wasn't there for me.
Unfortunately, the editing and lack of punctuation (and sometimes just overall misuse of it) was a bit of a distraction for me as a reader. I know I'm reading an arc, but this book was already released at time of receiving it, so I can only assume this is the final copy. I have the next story in the series lined up to read and I hope that the author will grow and develop this series.

This is a new to me author and I can’t wait to read more by her. I loved both Jake and Alex. This was a cool story where they couldn’t shift until they were mated, but you have to find your mate first. And the whole Disbelief warping things was way beyond, and a little terrifying. I’ve never read anything like that before. So we have Alex who is running from a crime boss, and ex lover, who he stole some serious cash from. He ends up with Westley, who turns out to be a vampire, and is brought to this kind of strange town where everything he ever though was true is blown out of the water. Even though Alex is an omega, he is a bada** one. He has to be as he was an enforcer of the bad guy, Giovanni. Oh did I hate Giovanni but he got his just deserts. I felt absolutely sorry for Henry and what happened to him, that broke my heart. I loved the secondary charters and can’t wait to read more in this series. I really want more of Westley. Oh and the sheriff, even thoug I wanted to kick him in the butt for what he did, I want more of his back stories. And I want more pups and shifting, oh and the babies first shift, which are always so cool. Okay off to the next one.

I enjoyed the unique premise to this new series. Shifters start out as humans, and don’t obtain the ability to shift until they meet their fated mates. But they have to wait to find them in Whispering Hills for however long it takes. The plot itself was nothing new - opposites attract, fated mates, troubled past. But the world construct added a different twist. The writing didn't flow well for me, and there were some editing issues, but still an interesting and worthwhile read.

This was another book that I struggled to finish. Towards the middle I was almost skimming through. The writing was not good and didn’t engage me at all. It failed at making me care at all about the characters and plot. The spice was lack lustre and flat. Overall, it was not enjoyable and I will not be reading the rest of the series.
good story. a little slow at times but it had a unique alpha/omega thing about it.. i havent read anything like it before... very good characters and i enjoyed it and cannot wait to read book 2.
This was mostly an unsatisfactory reading experience. The construction is sloppy with frequent grammatical errors. This shifter world shares very little with most that I’ve read and yet is not well described enough to make me feel like I understand its reality. The graphic violence adds nothing positive to the storyline and the two main characters are defined more by inconsistencies than constructive comment. Alex is one of the enforcers, a hired goon basically. But he’s also a computer whiz who crafts an elaborate network of machines to steal and hide money? Not believable. Jake is a tough mechanic but also sensitive and insecure? Eventually the disbelief was stronger than any small level of acceptance I could achieve and the failed to be interesting beyond that point.
I have read a LOT of shifter books; mpreg included. However, this story is a whole new A/O shifter world than any I have ever read. The story was fairly entertaining, but it definitely needs to be run by a new proofreading/editing team (basically punctuation errors). The characters are pretty well developed, but the writing does not flow smoothly as it is written now.
In this world, alphas and omegas learn about shifters as humans, but cannot shift until they are mated. There is a town called Whispering Hills where werewolves are drawn to from all over the world; it is a place of joy and heartache. It is where they go to await their soul mate. Some wait a short time, while others wait decades.
Alex is from New York City, and is running from his old gang leader. He not only escaped, but also stole quite a large amount of money. He randomly selects a direction and begins his run to Mexico; or so he believes. He is picked up by a odd man while hitchhiking, and things start to get strange. The next thing he knows is that he either passed out or was drugged, because he wakes up in some southern town facing two very large and muscular men out the window.
Jake was a military man until he had a bad night, and his career went down the drain. He's been living in Whispering Hills waiting for his omega to show up. When he finds Alex tied to a chair in a barn with the sheriff, he releases him immediately, regardless of the sheriff's wishes. However, contrary to his hopes, Alex does not seem to feel the mating bond.
Alex feels that he must continue with his plans, and though Jake doesn't feel wanted, he has his Alpha instincts to protect his mate. This begins the story of how their relationship begins. But all is not sunshine and rainbows in their mating; for although Alex conceives, they still haven't learned to like one another...
When Alex's past casts a shadow over the town, the sheriff makes a decision as the pack Alpha. This leads the MCs to turn to a vampire for help, but at a price. But once danger strikes, the action picks up, and the two work together as Alpha and Omega to survive.
I do have to mention that the labor scene was interesting. I have read many over the years, and I have to say that the author goes into explicit details about exactly what the omega is feeling as soon as the labor is induced. It also brought home the bond the MCs have formed, and the love between a parent and child.
Overall, the characters are fairly likable, and the storyline is unique. I enjoyed the story, in and of itself. It was just awkward reading for me due to commas being in inappropriate places, and not where they were needed. It interrupted the flow in my head, but I'm a picky reader. This may not bother you at all. I didn't see many misspelled words or other serious mistakes.
If you are looking for a different twist on the classic shifter trope, this is definitely a good book to read...especially if you're not as finicky about punctuation as I am 😉.
Objectively, these are pretty good books. There's shifting, mpreg, hard-won romance, drama, sexy times, and happily ever afters. Objectively, they probably deserve a little higher star ratings. But there's just something about the storytelling, the characters, the world-building...just quite a few somethings that didn't jive with me personally. They're not amazing, they're not bad, on the whole they're just acceptably nice stories with a whole lot of potential.
On the run from an unsavory past, Alex finds himself trapped in a nowhere town by a bunch of freaks who think they can turn into wolves. Oh, and they can't prove it. And he's mated to a deliciously "country-handsome" man who is too nice to be believed. Jake has been waiting for Alex and all the hopes he had pinned on finding a mate meet reality and nothing goes according to anyone's plans.
There was a whole lot of potential for these two men and while they had complicated pasts, I thought they, as individuals, lacked depth. I had hoped they would spend time getting to know one another with their forced situation, but instead there's a lot of "you just don't understand," and both men are at fault for putting unrealistic expectations on one another. Everything works out in the end, but getting to that point is filled with more disappointment than exultation. There was a whole lot of description too. Not like the author was telling rather than showing, just doing a whole lot of showing. It's one thing to paint a picture for the reader, but to describe each brushstroke is excessive. It took away from the imagination and artistry that could have been achieved otherwise. As for the drama, it was excessively violent, I feel.
The world-building was confusing as were the terms and descriptions along the way. I felt so lost in the beginning, wondering why Alex was treated the way he was, why they went about introducing him to the town and Alphas the way he was, and all that went into the agreement with Westley. There was just something missing from each of those points that I had a really hard time staying with the story from start to finish. 2.5 stars.
Alex is on the run and trying to find a safe place to hide is hard when you are always looking over you shoulder. Alex has given up on love, he was raised on the street and the only way to live was to join a gang and he was not happy. Alex does not believe in fated mates. Jake has been hoping to find his fated mate. He tries to sniff every new person that comes to town. Jake will not get all of his powers or his shifting ability until he is actually mated. Alex finds his way to town and the minute Jake enters the room he knows that Alex is his fated mate. Because Alex is on the run he does not trust anything that Jake has to tell him. Alex does feel something for Jake but he is not ready to believe in shape shifters. Jake agrees to help Alex and they have to find a safe place to stay. They go to the vampires for help. Can Jake and Alex be happy and make it work? Will Alex ever feel safe with Jake?

This was the first book I've read by this author. I thought it was good, but it's definitely a completely different take on the paranormal/shifter storyline than I'm used to reading. For one, Alex didn't know he was an omega werewolf or that the paranormal world even existed. Secondly, shifters in this world couldn't actually to their werewolf form until after they had found their mate and actually mated. I'm still not sure what I think about that concept. Third, there was this thing called Disbelief. It was a state if mind/thinking but, at the same time, had it's own magical power. Alex and Jake, his Alpha, had a connection. However, in my opinion, I didn't feel it was overly strong like mates usually are. Overall, I would say this was good. I liked it and would be interested in reading book two. For me, it's a 3-3.5 star read. *I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest review.*
There is always something new in Tabatha works. Eventhough she used a common theme but somehow it will also different :) we can see it in here.
I have read a bunch of Omegaverse novel and manga/manhwa/manhua but not all of them describe the cruelty of wolves or other beast like I found in this novel. The part when Jake and Alex turn into wolf and killed their enemy was the main point that make this novel different with other omegaverse novel. A bit gore and much of wolf cruelty (makes Jake think to eat his dead enemy for a while), so twisted and I like it. Maybe it was just me but I do like somekind of dark romance. So you will not get bored with the story.
I also like the rejection that Alex show in the beginning. But, I hope he reject a bit more because I like to see Jake struggled more to win Alex heart. Although I don't mind with the final result (include the refreshing outdoor sex lol).
In the end what I could say is I love this novel ❤
This is a new author to me & I will admit that I really enjoyed reading this entertaining shifter romance. It offered a different view on how the shifter abilities evolve. The story-line is interesting & well-written with an intriguing plot, which keeps the readers’ attention. The characters are well-developed & realistic with their emotional feelings of fear, needs & desires. The secondary characters play a good supporting role. There is: a dormant omega male who is a ex-enforcer on the run (Alex), the crime boss & ex-lover from whom Alex is running (Giovanni), a ex-military male alpha with a tragic past longing for his undiscovered mate (Jake), wolf shifters, vampires, witches, humans, a terrifying monster, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, adventure, action, secrets, magic, danger, enemies, threats, violence, manipulations, verbal banter, emotional turmoil, ultimatums, physical conflict, injuries, disagreements, love, happiness & steamy scenes.
This is an interesting story with a unique storyline and I like how different it is from other shifter/Mpreg books that I have read. The world building is very good and I love that they can only shift once they are bonded with their mates. I also like Jake and Alex but I don't see a strong connection between them. They don't have a lot of chemistry and for most of the book they only seem to be together because they are mates. Some of the secondary characters are interesting and I would like to see more of them in future books. The writing style is very different and it took a long time for me to get used to it. The lack of flow in the writing and the editing issues made it difficult for me to enjoy this story as well but as I read an ARC the editing problems may have been rectified before it was published. Overall I am intrigued by the possibilities in this series but I wish that the execution was better.

This was a cute and fun read especially if you enjoy city boy meets cowboy romances! I love a good story about a hott small town country boy and this a paranormal trophe involving wolf shifters so the best of both worlds for me. This cowboy happened to know who his true mate was but theres was one problem, his mate didnt know he was an omega, let alone a shifter and it was going to take quite a lot of convincing especially since shifters cant shift without being mated first. Before they can mate, he has to convince the omega to believe him first and to accept the fact that they belong together. I felt this story was pretty engaging the whole time and I finished it pretty quickly not wanting to put it down. I cant wait to read more from this author!

I liked this premise with Disbelief having an actual power that effects and warps magic. It made the whole imperative about the paranormal world remaining secret so much more vital, and a bit scary.
Jake wanted a mate so desperately, and had built up such a paragon in his mind that it definitely took some adjustment for him to accept his mate as he was. Alex tried so very hard to be a hardened criminal, but being an omega definitely seemed to get in the way. But it still took quite a bit for him to accept that he was omega, and that he wasn't less for craving Jake as his alpha.
Ultimately, Jake and Alex do find happiness in their partnership. And I have to say that, once again, I love Tabitha Austin's sense of justice.
Good story. I read this after the 2nd story. Jake, Alpha and Alex, Omega find each other through intermediary Wesley, vampire. Alex, new to the area has no idea paranormals exist. The drama behind Alex's past profession was exciting and riveting. Could Alex be more proactive in his quest? I don't have a real good understanding of what the Disbelief is. Why wasn't there more discussion about Alex's obsession with Bailey? Alex, stepped up. He should have had better representation in his military hearing. This was a very exciting fun to read story! I hope there are more stories about the rest of the characters. Good character development. Nice cover art! I received this book as an ARC from Booksprout for a review.

3.5 stars
This series has some interesting world-building with the idea of Disbelief being able to change the world. But I'm not a huge fan of the MCs. In this book it was Alex that got on my nerves a bit. He's supposed to be a tough guy, city smart who is trying to start over. But he just comes across as too stubborn for his own good. Jake I felt like I was missing some of his background, like we got bits but not enough to really get the entire picture.
Once Alex started to believe a bit more in the shifter reality there were some good moments. I almost wish we got more of Westley, I found the Vampire more interesting than the shifters in this story.
The style of writing was different than what I am used to. It was a double view point, but didn't always alternate from one to the other, depending on where the story was taking us.
The world setting was very interesting and the narration itself can feel jumpy at times but it suited the characters and where they take us.
I loved Jake and Alex. Alex was so different from the usual omega. He struggled with who he was and who he is supposed to be. I found Jake to be typical alpha but always there for Alex no matter the cost to himself.
This story was different, and because of that, very good. I can't wait for more books
Country Alpha, City Omega by Tabatha Austin is the first book in the Whispering Hills series. An omega from the city running from trouble and an alpha who is looking for his mate, Alex and Jake are a fun couple to read about. The story is definitely entertaining... sweet moments between mates and their sexytines' people gaining their shifter abilities, the drama of running from a gang, and mpreg... all the ingredients for s great time and this book delivers. I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
This book had potential to be amazing, but suffered in the execution. The writing style made the story drag on. In the beginning everything was filled with overwhelming details that made for a confusing read, but then on some of the more impactful elements of the plot the details were skimpy. The characters weren't very developed and easily forgettable. I had to go back so I could remember who everyone was. I felt like so much more could have been done with these characters and this universe.
This is book 1 in the series from this author and the book is okay for me. I personally thought the book didn't flow very well and it had more potential for the storyline. Having said that, just because I didn't thoroughly enjoy this book doesn't mean you won't. Please read all the reviews as well as the authors synopsis to see if this book will be one for your bookshelf.
It Grabbed My attention and focus so strong I could not put it down. A word of advice when you get your copy. Grab a snack, a comfy seat, kick back and relax. You wont be moving until you finish this bad boy here. Remarkable job. Thanks for sharing.

I loved Alex from the start but Jack...not so much. It was only when he realized what he was doing that I started to like him. All in all this was an enjoyable read and a great series opener. I'm looking forward to reading Truman's story next.
I found this to be an interesting story with great characters. I enjoyed the chemistry and connection between Jake and Alex. The story kept moving at a good pace and I was caught up in the storyline. All in all a good start to a new series.
1st in the Whispering Hills series. I kind of wanted to read some mpreg m/m romances and found this series. This was an interesting book with a NY gang member turning out to be the mate of one of townsfolk. I really like a lot of the characters.
I really enjoyed this book. It's the first in a series but can be read as stand alone. It's a little different than some Paranormal books I've read. The characters held my interest.
Loved this storyline! Alex leaves gangbanging and the city behind. He finds Whispering Hills and Jake. They are soulmates, but can they get thru Alex's past coming back for him?
