I received this book as an ARC from the author. In the summary it warned me that not all love stories have a happy ending. I am just going to reiterate that comment for anyone who is currently planning to read this book....it is not your typical HEA HR. You have been warned....regardless, you should still read it because it is such a well told story and the characters are so vivid and real.
Personally I usually go for the cookie cutter HR. I like knowing I am going to get a couple who doesn't want to be together and then by the end they can't live without each other and they all ride off into the sunset together. I love those books and when I just want to escape into an easy read that is what I will grab....preferably with a lot of hot smexy scenes.
But every once in awhile I like to indulge in something with a bit more meat and that takes me out of my comfort zone and this book definitely did that. I so wanted things to work out differently for this couple but as the story progressed I started to realize that I was probably wishing on the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. But the story-line was so well developed and it intrigued me right from the start. I liked being able to get the POV from both main characters, instead of trying to guess where they were coming from.
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
This is my first Christina McKnight book and I must say I have been sucked in and now I must read more. :) This was one of the first spy type books I have read in the Historical Romance Genre. I loved it. I love the twists and turns that kept me turning the pages.
Lady Lorele the daughter of french spies who's family have to do what they do and come out to be uncaring towards her. Just all business all the time. But when your life is on the line I suppose it is what you do. But I think in their own way they loved their daughter. Lorelei loves her parents but must do what she has to do for her parents sake in hopes that it will set her free to a life she wants to have even when you is not even sure if that is possible.
Andrew Penten, The Marquis of Drake. A man that is use to getting everything he wants. Plans to never married or have heirs etc until he meet Lady Lorelie. Andrews world is turned upside down for he is slowly falling for this mysterious woman he has no ideas why she is truly there. Andrews friend Benji to me is a very strange character. I guess part of it is that I just thought maybe there was more to him then just that cold hearted man who screws his friend and marries the woman he love just so that he could not have her.
In a race to find what Lorelei's family is looking for and disappear from everyone and start over Lorele finds her self in a predicament. As well as Andrew.
Now I must find out what happens with Andrew. What Happen to Peter? What about the baby? So many questions and I cannot wait to read more.
I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review, and I'd like to take this moment to be petulant and stick my tongue out at those who had to wait to read this amazing installment.... *sticks out tongue*
Now that we have that out of the way.... I truly loved this book. It is so different from the other two books in the series, but equally as amazing, if not, slightly moreso.
After reading Forgotten No More, I hated the Marquis of Drake, and when I learned that this book was about his life prior to him being a colossal douche-b, I felt confident that I would not be swayed from my feelings of hatred for him. Alas, all I wanted to do through this entire book was reach through the screen of my Kindle and hug him.
Lorelei, a woman that he had come to care for after only a brief meeting was not to return his affections, and instead he was pushed away, her sight set on the task given to her by her father. That task involved her gaining the attentions of the Marquis's best friend, who was all too willing to take the one thing Andrew had ever wanted, Lorelei.
I loved reading this book, and I can't wait to read the next. I have seen that it will feature Lady Ellington, and I look forward to seeing what Christina has in store for the hell-raising redhead. :-)
I have to say that I have read all of Christina McKnight's books starting with Shunned No More. I loved them all! Scorned Ever More has to be her best. She warns us that all stories don't have a happy ending. This story draws you in and keeps you rooting for the Marquis of Drake/Andrew. Hating Benji and Hoping that Lorelei will forget what her Father and country wants and will marry the right one. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat, make you shout and cry but is the absolute best book I have read in a very long time. Christina is really good at fleshing out the characters and the plot. She makes you feel what the characters feel and want what they want.
I beta read this book from the author for an honest opinion. *Wipes my eyes* WHY!! *Sobbing* Why didn’t I read the blurb to prepare my heart for this book. *Uncontrollable tears* WHHHHHHHHY!!!!!!! *throws tantrum on the floor*
*Several hours later and a lot of sherry later*
Ok I am now composed enough to discuss this amazing book Christina. I am a big HR reader. I love the erotic to the traditional. I love the people, the time and the talk of the books. I will say that Christina’s latest book is a mixture of traditional with a splash of erotic. If you read her other 2 books, you will see that she kicked up the spicy factor but it’s still tastefully written and nothing you won’t enjoy *wiggles eye brows* I will say this books characters drew me in like none of her other past characters have. I have loved each book and character even proclaiming that Harold is my Theater buddy (If you read book 2 you understand the reference) but this set of characters was amazing!!
So this book takes us back to BEFORE book 1. We are learning about the awful Drake from the other 2 books….you know THAT guy who is terrible to Ellington. Yeah THAT GUY. So we hate him right?? WELLLLL you might change your mind after reading this book. I mean I fell in total and complete love with him. I messaged Christina the entire time I was reading growling at bad stuff that was happening to him!! YEAH CAN YOU BELIVE IT!! ME EITHER!!
So our buddy Andrew/Drake is a total rakeshell. He and his buddy Benji/Chastain like to seduce other men’s wives for sport. They don’t even care what people think of them. Well fast forward to a new man. 10 years have passed and Andrew is over his dawg ways. Then he spots a beauty. He must get to know her…well Benji has NOT changed and so he also wants too get to know her. The two men pretty much are after her for separate reasons. Andrew because his heart really wants her but Benji just to “get the girl’ from his best friend….brother from another mother.
Lorelei is drawn to Andrew but her DUTY is to form an attachment to Benji. It seems out little lady is a bit of a *GASP* Spy. She wants what Benji has to save her family and her life from Napoleon!!! Yup not goooooood. Lorelei and her family put on a huge ruse to get accepted by the Ton.
Well Things happen and I will not go into detail with all the business BUT Lorelei is to marry Benji….nooo you cry? ME TOO!!!! The chemistry, the angst, the love that comes from Lorelei and Andrew is intense. They seem to have bad timing. The story goes through about a year of them having almost and near misses. The final ending of the story…I will say from about 60% …….I couldn’t put it DOWN!! I devoured the book. I read through my tears. I read through my tantrum. I read through it alllllll and after I was a mess but a happy mess???? How can that be right????
The book starts out with Lady Lorele the daughter of french spies whose family had to do what they needed to do and they always come out to be uncaring towards her and just all business. Lorelei loves her parents but must do what she has to do for her parents sake in hopes that it will set her free to start the life she wants to have even when she is not even sure if that is possible.
Andrew Penten, The Marquis of Drake is a man that is use to getting everything he wants. He plans never marry or have heirs until he meet Lady Lorelie. Andrews world is turned upside down for he is slowly falling for this mysterious woman and he has no ideas why she is truly there. Andrews friend Benji to me is a very odd character. In a race to find what Lorelei's family is looking for and disappear from everyone and start over Lorele finds her self in a predicament. What twists and turns will happen?
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next book.
Andrew Penton, The Marquis of Drake and his friend Lord Chastain has been friends since childhood. They been making bets and seducing women along the way leaving a trail of ladies.
Lady Lorelei de La Valette, daughter of the French Comte of Epernon has newly arrived to London and the Marquis finds himself interested in her. His friend notices the attraction as he sets her sights on her and ends up marrying her.
But Lady Lorelei has her own secrets as she married him to look for some mysterious plans that her family been blackmailed to find. A life she has no say in order to survive. She did not plan to fall in love with her husband’s best friend and wanting to save her newborn son from a unstable life.
Love is never easy ass we must sacrifice happiness along the way. A heartbreaking story of unrequited love.
I received an ARC copy of this book, with the promise of an honest review. I absolutely loved this book and can't wait to read the next one. I found the book so captivating, that I ended up completing in one day. Christina really has a way with her characters, I fell in love with Andrew, but I hated Benji,I wanted to go into the book and just slap him. This book brought out so many different emotions; it made me laugh, cry, scream, my kids probably thoguht I was nuts. But I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
Christina McKnight’s “Scorned Ever More” is the third book in her historical romance series, A Lady Forsaken. Another set of new and interesting plot elements that I've never seen in historical romance before! Once again, the characters and story line are great. There was a full-on sex scene in this one and it was amazing! I'm still in shock over the ending though. I'll have to see what happens in #4 before I know how I truly feel about the ending of #3, I think.
A great addition to the A Lady Forsaken series and this book is hot and steamy, but makes you laugh and cry throughout. It is full of emotion as the author pulls you in from the beginning. You will love the characters as much as hate them, as you travel with them on life's journey. I love this authors work and look forward to the next book.
I have read all three books in the series and I have to say this one by far is my favorite. It had me on edge from beginning to end.At times I wanted to jump into the book just to hug poor Lord Drake and Lady Lorelei. They both lost so much it broke my heart. Truly an amazing story Christina McKnight!
Not exactly your typical romance story. Usually a given in the genre is the HEA (happily ever after). Having read the previous book in the series I was at a loss to figure out how Drake was going to be anything worth a HEA. This was a fair book. I do think it seems out of place in the series order.
Definitely unlike any Regency romance I have ever read. Although at times I didn't understand why the main characters did what they did the ending was a shocker! I'm not as poetic as most commenters on here, but if you want a read that is surprising and unconventional this book is for you!!
Scorned Ever More: A Lady Forsaken Book 3 is a historical regency romance that is not your typical cookie cutter historical romance with a happy ending. However, I was wishing for land of milk and honey. Andrew Penton, The Marquis of Drake and Lady Lorelei de La Valette, daughter of the French Comte of Epernon are truly remarkable characters that are well seasoned and speak their minds. A highly intriguing love saga that is a bit spicy with its scandalous and intriguing climatic tale. A scorching hot love scene that was absolutely sensational. A french spy, espionage, betrayal, and unrequited love all brewed together to create a scrumptious highly entertaining read. The ending was a Bombshell that broke my heart. A tear jerker at times, & humourous at other times. I'm looking forward to reading other books in this series. The writing style is exquisite and absolutely portrays the genre perfectly.
Spies, betrayal, parents using her daughter to get mission done.
Good story intrigue about how Bonaparte and his allies tried gain power inside and out France to win his battles, and sending spies to England to obtain control.
From the first page, Scorned Ever More, by Christina McKnight, kept me entertained and swiping eBook pages. Over all, I thoroughly enjoyed McKnight's attention to detail and commitment to staying true to the historical premise of SEM. Unfortunately, SEM's ending left me disappointed. Nonetheless, I highly recommend SEM to all historical-romance readers who enjoy storylines that are filled with scandalous and intriguing drama.
Christina McKnight proves that not all books have a happily ever after but will still keep you enthralled to the very end. This is a wonderful story about espionage, betrayal and an unrequited love. Andrew Penton, the Marquis of Drake sees Lorelei and falls instantly in love. Lorelei is attracted to Andrew too but marries his bestfriend to complete her mission. Benji marries Lorelei just to best Andrew. There is no happy ending just a great story.
Scorned Ever More (A Lady Forsaken, Book 3) by Christina McKnight Even though this is Book 3, it takes us back in time to tell Andrew’s story. As Christina warns, not all stories have HEAs. In spite of that, there was a love story that I truly believed needed to be told to bring even more depth to this series.
