Missadventures of a Book Boyfriend

Rate this book
A washed-up model at the age of 27, Oliver Connely has gone from being a household name to barely making the rent. It’s time to think fast—and cash in big—with a can’t-miss idea inspired by the passion he sees in a handful of romance novel fans. Book Boyfriend Incorporated is born.

Can’t. Miss.

Right?

Except for the unexpected glitches Oliver’s business plan doesn’t cover—like falling for one of his “lonely lady” clients, Bailey Hardin, a politician’s wife who’s as smart and loyal as she is beautiful and sexy. Their chemistry, instant and scorching, is already a problem—but when Bailey’s husband turns up dead, the pair quickly learns they’re facing more than a simple PR nightmare.

The mess intensifies when Oliver’s best friend decides to put a bid in for the freshly vacated city manager position, ensuring Oliver is now caught between his longtime best friend and his new ladylove. The clock is ticking, and the political scandal is growing. Tough decisions must be made—especially because, for the first time in Oliver’s life, matters of his heart are on the line.

****

I truly loved this emotional and heartfelt read--another home run from the world of the Misadventures books. Oliver is one of the most engaging and swoon-worthy heroes it's been a pleasure for me to read, heading up a cast of incredible but believable characters and a love story that unfolds with beautiful realism. Loved Ms. Blue's very creative take on this super cool theme, crafted into a plot that's truly a page-turner. Brava!

This was a no no for me.
What was so bad in this book?
Everything basically.
First of all, the story.
Oliver was a model but his career just got non existent and he was suddenly short of money. He got then an idea about starting a little dating business, where he would be the dreamy book boyfriend women get crazy about. From this business gets to meet Bailey, who he falls in love with.
So, everything seemed rushed. The ending was barely an ending. This book should have been about a man starting a dating business or something like that, but not only I saw it like a prostitute business (when you sleep with your clients is like that), but it wasn't even the center point of the story.
The center point was...politics? Him being an idiot? The sugar mama? I couldn't understand it, honestly.
Anyway, speaking about him being an idiot. He thinks he is not an idiot, but he is. And we are not talking about Bailey. How old is she by the way? 45? 50? Also, I just couldn't shake off the feelings of her being kinda...I don't know, I just didn't like her from the start.
And we want to talk about cheating and hypocrisy? I mean, she is the first one to sleep with another man, even much more younger than her and sorry but I can't stand it (but it's just my opinion) and then she talks trash about her husband who cheats on her...mmm sorry? Isn't she cheating on him too?
Everything was just too...corny too. I mean, Oliver was just too much. Who talks like that? NO MAN talks like that. It's totally unrealistic. He is unrealistic in that way.
I didn't dnf because it was a pretty short story and because I owe the publisher a review so I did an effort. My opinion may be unpopular, but unfortunately I can't say I enjoyed this book.

*Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Fantasies do come true...

Victoria Blue made me smile with all the feels in this book. Oliver has all the traits that I love in a man. Strong, adventurous, and romantic with a smoldering sexiness. Oliver is only 27 years old, but in the world of modelling, the industry already considers him past his "best before date". With financial obligations looming, he comes up with an ingenious idea to start a company that fulfills every romance reader's dreams, date your favorite Book Boyfriend.

The idea takes off like a fast train at first, but Oliver discovers a few snags with his dream company. He meets Bailey who catches him and his feelings off guard with their instant magnetism towards each other. This story has suspense that involves Bailey and Oliver's best friend that will surprise you when you least expect it. This was a quick read and I love how Victoria Blue interweaves all her characters in this book.

OMG Victoria Blue this was one of the best Romance novels that I have read in a while. I give you two big thumbs up for all the work and dedication you put into this book. Welcome to the misadventure word. It’s going to be a fun and wild ride. Where is my book boyfriend now??? I also loved the twist and turns I really didn’t know what was going to happen was he going to win Bailey over in the end or was he going to get with Skye in the end. Thank you for your amazing work!!!!

4.5 stars

So, anyone who reads romance has one or more book boyfriends, right? And, who wouldn't want to spend just one night with him … have all that alpha attention, romance and maybe a hot time in bed with him? Fantasies are wonderful until you fall for that fantasy and it becomes real.

Welcome to Book Boyfriend Inc. where fantasies come to life one book at a time.

Oliver had a great idea until it was pointed out to him that he is practically a prostitute. He had to change that and quick. No way would he hurt Skye's political aspirations like that. He may hate the man that she works for but he loves the woman that is like a sister to him. So, with the help of a new friend, he turns his little venture into a true dating site. But, before that happens, he happens to grow extremely infatuated with his first date and can't get her off his mind. When she shows up a second time, all bets are off. Until that fatal phone call comes and everything comes crashing down.

Melanie, Bailey had problems of her own. An unsatisfying marriage, a husband who always had a piece on the side and she was a pro at putting on the mask of the devoted politician's wife. Until she found the ad for Book Boyfriend Inc. and her life seemed to be taking a turn for the better. Until that fatal phone call comes and everything comes crashing down.

That phone call also gives both Oliver and Bailey a chance at possibly finding love. But, there is one little problem and Oliver has some major decisions to make. When he decides he's more important than Skye, she doesn't take it very well and things get even more complicated. But, his decision is made and it's his happiness that he chooses.

Victoria Blue wrote a cute and sassy story. It was fun and interesting. Unfortunately, I didn't feel the chemistry between Oliver and Bailey. Just couldn't get into them as a couple. Maybe it was the way Bailey was written or her coming off as aloof. But, all in all, I really enjoyed the fresh and new premise of this story. Good for Victoria Blue for listening to Romanlandia and writing a fun story about something we all fantasize about. And I loved how the story wasn't just fluff but ran the gamut on a whole bunch of emotions.

Genre ~ contemporary romance
Series ~ Misadventures #19
Setting ~ Los Angeles, California
Publication date ~ March 5, 2019
Page Count ~ 209 (13 chapters)
Audio length ~ 5 hours 46 minutes
Narrator ~ Jason Clarke
POV ~ single 1st
Featuring ~ struggling model, politics, infidelity, some steamage

Oliver has been struggling to find work, so he has an idea to be a book boyfriend. Women will choose how they want him to be on their date ~ a cowboy, a billionaire, an alpha businessman...pretty much any type of man from any romance trope you've read. His very first client is a married, but neglected politician's wife named Melanie/Bailey, who becomes his love interest.

I did like how he figured out how to get some money coming in and turned it into a whole successful business, but it was a bit too predictable and political for me.

Series notes:
Every book in this series is a standalone. Some are single or duo authors and some collaborations.

Narration notes:
I did not listen to this one, but am just giving the info above for reference.

Unfortunately this book just didn’t so it for me. It had potential for sure but I just couldn’t connect with it.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

The storyline was enjoyable though. I liked the idea of a book boyfriend agency, that sounds like it would be an absolute hoot to try out I just couldn’t stay focused and found myself skipping through parts.

For me this book just wasn’t what I was expecting and I absolutely HATE not being able to enjoy a book. I’m giving it 3 stars for the fact that I did love where it was going, I somewhat liked the characters and the sex, was off the charts hot lol.

This was my first read for this author but even though I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would of liked to, I can’t wait to try out another book of hers.

Wow, such a good book. Oliver is hot, sexy as obviously knows how to please a woman. He comes up with an idea to be a book boyfriend, I mean come on all the ladies want what's in the romance books. I myself have heard them around the pool talking, so why not. I need extra cash and the women need a man that can take care of the job. What could go wrong!?? My roommate thinks is a bad idea, and the roommate is a woman. Not just any woman but his best friend. Can Oliver pull it off or does the business turn into something else. I love the chemistry, I love Oliver and the book is a lot of fun to read.

This is a new to me author but I love the misadventures series.

This story was not what I was expecting but in a good way. It was full of turns I never expected. I was hooked from the start. Oliver is swoon-worthy, but then again when you come up with the idea to be a book boyfriend for women you kind of have to be. Of course, he befriends his neighbor to help him out and his roommate, Skye, thinks it is a terrible idea. When Oliver begins to have a relationship with one of his clients how will that affect his new company and his friendship with Skye?

I loved the bond between Oliver and Skye. You can tell that those two have been best friends forever and are more like siblings than anything. Oliver, well he was swoon-worthy there were also times I was just sitting and thinking ‘wtf are you doing’. Bailey, Bailey, Bailey, I don’t even know what to say about her. I still don’t know how I really feel about her. I want to like her, but I also know where she is coming from so it’s hard to hate her.

I enjoyed this book and like I said earlier it wasn’t what I expected at all. It is a sweet story with some twists and turns.

What A Fabulous Book Boyfriend

First let me say, that I want an Oliver Connelly of my very own. He is the most considerate, thoughtful, generous, loving man Ever!!!! In this Misadventures book we are treated to Oliver Connelly, Bailey Hardin, and Skye Jordan, plus Janine who helps immensely with Oliver's business, Book Boyfriend, Inc. He starts the business as he needs money because he no longer can secure any modeling contracts. He meets Bailey on a book boyfriend date and he falls for her. There is intrigue involving Bailey and Skye, who is Oliver's best friend and room mate. I love Victoria's very descriptive writing. The absolute caring and love that Oliver shows really gave me so many fabulous feels. I cannot wait for Victoria's next Misadventures involving Skye. I am so very happy that Victoria Blue entered the Misadventures books series. This is a fast paced, fun, loving, thoughtful, sexy!, delightful read. Do not miss this Misadventure!

Victoria blew me away with this Misadventures. I wish I could give it more then 5 stars.

Oliver is everything a woman wants and more.
Going from a household name in the modelling world to barely being able to pay his bills Oliver decides to start Book Boyfriend Inc.
Then he meets Bailey, a married, career minded woman who needs more.

But what happens when Oliver finds out that both Bailey and his room mate Skye both work for City Hall tensions flare and loyalty is tested.

This book has twists and turns at every angle.

I’m not so sure Misadventures with a Book Boyfriend was really the book for me. I did like the idea of Oliver setting up an online service to bring Book Boyfirends to life. Loved that a man did the research into our favorite books and realized it was the way to a woman’s heart, and other parts. I just didn’t like that his hook up with a married woman, even though her marriage wasn’t typically a marriage, Victoria Blue is still an awesome writer and storyteller. I just don’t think this was for me.

This one has my mind going in so many directions and pleasantly, most were wrong turns. Oliver has to face reality when his status as the most sought after male model falls down the rabbit hole. But, his best friend/roommate Skye depends on him to pull his share of the load.
He gets an idea from the Romance novel loving neighbors and begins Book Boyfriend Inc. Who would not want a date with their favorite Book Boyfriend?

He meets a woman, 'Melanie' (Bailey) on one such date that he can't get her out of his head. Until he sees her again and again.

The business takes off, thanks to his insightful neighbor. And he must expand. With this, he decides to let others take the dates while he concentrates on the business and Bailey.
As things pick up with his business and his love life, they deteriorate in his friendship with Skye.

I have to admit I was not fond of either of Oliver's women for the longest time. But in Victoria's most wonderful way she saved them for me. 😊 The story is fun, tragic a bit and oh so hot! I love Oliver and all of his ladies.

When I first heard the title of this book I was curious as to how it was going to be written. I mean there are several ways it could go, and when I started reading Oliver’s story, I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the way Victoria Blue decided to write this story!! Oliver is a successful fashion model who is aging and jobs are coming in less frequently now! Forced to think outside the box, he comes up with this crazy idea on how he can make money after hearing a group of women talking one day out by the pool!! As he brings the idea to life he quickly learns that he’s in over his head and must re-evaluate. 3 woman play a huge role in his life now where only one had before! His roommate Skye, his new business partner Janine, and the beautiful Bailey!!
You’ve got to read this book to find out how all 3 women shape his future!! I really enjoyed this book and the Misadventures series has another hit with this book!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Words can’t even describe how blown away I am with this new addition to the Misadventures series.

Victoria Blue isn’t a new author to me, I’ve read Secrets Of Stone series which she collaborated with Angel Payne with and deliverers an amazing series and now she’s joined the Misadventures series and just given us an amazing, outstanding, all-consuming, addicting and downright SEXY read! She’s such a great addition to the Misadventures community!

When Waterhouse Press first announced Book Boyfriend, I was beyond excited, I mean the name alone is enough to spike your interest, every woman who reads romances, will have Book Boyfriends, so I was more than intrigued, once I’d seen the blurb and cover, I WAS SOLD!

Oliver? WELL DAMN. For starters... HOLY CRAP! He’s perfection. He’s swoon-worthy, he’s sexy as hell, he’s confident, yet not cocky. When he comes up with the idea of becoming a Book Boyfriend, his roommate and long-time best friend were highly against it, more so for her own reasons, and of course his.

When his business starts up he has the pleasure of meeting Bailey, thinking it would be as simple as doing the job he’s being paid for and continuing on to the next one. Well, he certainly got that wrong. As his business starts to boom, and he goes on to other women, he can’t seem to stop thinking about Bailey, for the life of him he can’t seem to let her go and he starts up a relationship with the woman, but unsure of what that actually means for his work. Will he be able to stay in this line of business? Or will his feelings for Bailey get in the way of that?

I absolutely loved Skye and Olivers’ friendship. You could feel the unconditional love they held for each other and the fact that they were like family, not just roommates and friends. But Skye has a hard time accepting Oliver’s line of work and fears that it could impact her career working in the city manager's office, she fears that it could potentially damage her reputation and job. Is she being paranoid? Or will people find out? And if they do, what does that mean for her job?

This book OUTSTANDING. Absolutely outstanding. It was a quick and fun read but it held so much heat, and a few twists and turns were thrown in the mix. I couldn’t put it down! Bravo, Victoria! You nailed it flawlessly with your first book in this series! I can’t wait to see whatever else you’ve got planned!!

5 hot and swoony Stars!

While I didn’t love this, I did like a lot of it.

Oliver is a former fashion model who’s been out of work for too long. He needs to find a way to make some money quickly. He comes up with a business plan he thinks is genius, but his best friend and roommate doesn’t agree with him. At all. And she especially doesn’t approve of who he hangs out with all the time. This causes lots of friction and many mean words to be said.

In addition to drama and steam, this also had some suspense thrown in. It did keep me guessing a few times.

I wasn’t sure what to think of Bailey. In the beginning, she was just another client to Oliver. Then feelings got involved, but I wasn’t sure how trustworthy she was. She seemed shady to me. But as the story progresses, questions are answered, mysteries are solved, and apologies are offered and accepted.

This was was my first book by this author and I wouldn’t mind trying another book from her.

The audiobook was narrated by Jason Clarke. As always, he did a wonderful job. *heart eyes*

I love the Misadventure books sooo much! And this one has to be my favourite so far. It was full of angst, romance, humour and so much more.

The characters were relatable in every which way to real life people; Oliver was low on cash with no job perspectives in sight, resorting to opening BBI (you’ll have to read it to see what that means!). Skye; power hungry, driven but extremely childish and annoying... there’s always a few power-driven people out there that you want to roll your eyes at. Bailey; all around sweet lady. Non-vindictive like her co-star-character Skye, that’s for sure.
Honestly? I couldn’t stand Skye. Hated her attitude and her rudeness. She’s not a character that I could get on with.

The story itself was addictive and I found it hard to put down. Extremely well written by this author and also first book of hers I’ve ever read. Incredibly stunning penmanship.

Readers, you just HAVE to read this!!

The name of this misadventure is what really grabbed me, and Oliver's idea is a unique one. Changing careers and going out on a limb like that is great. I think his spunky neighbor was my favorite person, though. I had a hard time connecting with the characters and feeling invested in their relationships. The storyline itself was interesting and unique, and had a good flow. The writing was good, too. If there were half stars, sorry it would be a 3.5 for me, if I'm being totally honest.

This book is a must read. Oliver is the book boyfriend that you always wanted. He is a true gentleman that any girl will want to take home. It is not a traditional love story but it is one that will suck you in and keep you reading till the end. I found myself ruteing for their happiness and holding my breath at the twists and turns. I enjoyed it from the beginning till the end.

Another great read in the Misadventures series. Oliver needs to bring in some money when his career as a model is coming to an end, but it is not until he overhears a bunch of housewives talking by the pool does he come up with his next line of work - a paid book boyfriend. Woman get to choose their fantasy man - alpha billionaire, firefighter, athlete, mobster or IT tech guy - Oliver can play them all. What he does not expect is to also find love with a client. What makes it worse is the connection between his client and his roommate. Can he fall in love and keep his best friend? Totally enjoyable and a fun read.

5 Star review of a Misadventures with a Book Boyfriend by Victoria Blue
The Misadventures Series is written by so many different and wildly talented authors and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. Misadventures with a Book Boyfriend was a great addition.
Whats a model to do when at age 27 it appears their career is over? That is the position that Oliver Connely finds himself in suddenly.; from making mega bucks to barely making the rent.
After overhearing a group of women talking about their book boyfriends, he has the idea to create Book Boyfriend Incorporated, after all it will be a sure fire win, or so he hopes.
However, it all comes crashing down when he falls for one of his clients, Bailey Hardin. When Bailey’s politician husband turns up dead the stakes become so much higher than anyone particularly Oliver expected. Particularly when Oliver’s best friend and roommate Skye decides to stand for the suddenly vacated position.
This was an emotional read, it was full of romance, humour, drama and angst and had me captivated as Oliver and Bailey were swept up in the tide. The chemistry between Oliver and Bailey was overwhelming and the twists and turns were an added bonus.
Victoria Blue created a great story and it is a fabulous addition to one of my favourite series.

Sweet ~ Funny ~ Charming
tl; dr: Broke dude pretends to be your favorite hero.

I love the Misadventures series for its brevity and consistent quality. Each book is written by a different author, retaining the author's general niche. These books are a nice way to be introduced to different authors as well as different types of romances. Victoria Blue was new to me but now I will look out for her. She did a wonderful job with characters. Her facility with dialogue and character-development was particularly noticeable as the main character took on numerous roles. She differentiated his "characters" from his own voice beautifully. Despite the fact that his character falls into many romantic novel tropes, the storyline did not. The book felt surprisingly fresh and interesting. Solid read. TW/Note: there is a Pretty Woman like career choice in this one.

Anyone who has read a romance novel - from Austen to modern day - has secretly wished for a leading man to leap from the pages and sweep them off their feet. AKA...a Book Boyfriend. After a chance meeting at the pool, model Oliver Connely turns this idea into a business. Along the way, he makes new friends (I want more Jeanine!) and test his relationship with best friend Skye. And of course he finds the love of his life.

This was the first book I've read by author Victoria Blue, but it won't be the last. I enjoyed her character development through the story and the plot twist surprised me (that doesn't happen too often, especially with a romance). This was also the first book I've read in the Misadventure series. Each book in the series is a standalone story written by different authors, so you can read as much of the series as you want and in any order - and I can absolutely recommend Misadventures with a Book Boyfriend as a fun - and hot - place to start!

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. Thank you to NetGalley and Victoria Blue for this opportunity.

Victoria has given us a a true romance novel. This book is well written and the characters are relocatable and easy to connect with. Can we say that we all need an Oliver Connelly in our lives. He is everything a woman wants he is swoon worthy. He has gone from a household name in the prime of his modeling career when things start to change and he is left to figure out how he is going to pay his bills.

This book has it all it has to feels the romance and chemistry off the charts! He decides to start Book Boyfriend Inc. A quick way to make some cash what could go wrong. His roommate Skye thinks it not a good idea, his new business partner Janine helps reassure him he's got this, and the beautiful Bailey knows how to make him come to his knees. Be ready for some twist and turns in this book.

This book was a lot of fun wrapped up in a sexy and entertaining concept. Elliot is an out of work model who feels he is washed up at the age of 27 and knowing he has made bad financial decisions in his past he needs to find a side hustle just to pay the rent. While sitting around the pool and listening to the "moms" he comes up with an idea, he places a personal ad to be a Book Boyfriend. Little did he know he would actually develop feelings for the first "date" and not be able to get her off his mind. So many twists and turns and even a little bit of suspense added in with some snark keeps this going. Just like all the other Misadventures this is a quick read and definitely satisfying. I recommend this one to warm up a winter afternoon!

Oh Oliver!

What better way to get to know women than to read a romance book and emulate the book boyfriends we all love. Even better, be a world renowned model and create a business doing just that. You just might meet the woman of your dreams.

"...if guys were smart—which, let’s face it, we aren’t—when we were about eighteen, we’d pick up one of these books and study it like it was one of our core subjects in school. We’d have the girls eating out of the palm of our hands in no time." ~ Oliver

Oliver's life goes from quiet to crazy trying to balance between his business, his roommate and his girlfriend. Loyalties will be tested, bonds broken and repaired all working towards the endgame of love and happiness. Get ready to have Oliver become your next "book boyfriend".
