I was hooked from the start on this cozy mystery by new author, J.J. Clarke. Her heroine, Kate Anderson, follows a trail of intrigue to untangle the workings of a small-town secret society which preys on the elderly. Though she examines a serious topic, Clarke’s breezy writing style is engaging and entertaining. Her characters are well developed and her dialogue snappy. I hope there will be a sequel to Dared to Return! I highly recommend this entertaining book.

Dared to Return, A Kate Anderson Mystery by J.J. Clarke is a quick and easy read about an important subject: scamming the elderly out of their assets. It is a storyline that could easily happen in any small town. Main character Kate is feisty and capable with a soft spot for her grandfather. You can’t help but love her.

I was hooked from the very first page of Dared to Return by debut author J.J. Clarke. This engaging cozy mystery introduces Kate Anderson, a smart and tenacious heroine who uncovers the dark secrets of a small-town society exploiting the elderly. Clarke balances a serious theme with a breezy, page-turning writing style that makes the story both thought-provoking and fun. The characters are vivid and relatable, the dialogue sparkles with wit, and the mystery unfolds with just the right amount of suspense. I couldn’t put it down and truly hope there’s a sequel on the way. Highly recommended for fans of clever, character-driven mysteries!

I met the author yesterday and bought her books as she is a PEO recipient of an award many years ago. She is from Missouri .
This was an intriguing read about Pops, Kates grandfather, who was placed in a home and swindled out of his money by white collared bad guys of organized crime in a small town. The mystery unravels and is well told by the author.

Delightful tale

An engaging read with an energetic willful female lead who tackles a down to earth problem for the elderly. Does this happen in today's society? This author weaves the question throughout the adventure and it bears thinking about.

Dared to Return

Fantastic read, characters and storyline. Kate’s grandfather calls her wanting to get him out of the home he was put in. When she returns she discovered there were a lot of bad business going on. A definite must read.

A good read

Small towns. Dinner at the diner, chummy chats with the sheriff, cantankerous grandfathers with whiskey breath. All shiny and bright, typical small town, until you begin to look into corners. Secret meetings in hidden rooms lead to people up to no good.

Easy read involving an important topic. Written for mystery lovers, discussions, and women, but I enjoyed it very much. Loved the “Pops” character. Had a western style ending.

DNF I decided it was too stupid to read. As it was book #2, I assume that much of the confusing part might have been explained in the first book.
