The ghost of a weeping woman dressed in white, La Llorona, is often spotted beside bodies of water. People in Mexico and in the southwestern United States have claimed to hear her wailing in the night, crying out for her drowned children. This centuries-old legend says that if the wailing woman gets too close, she will drag you to a watery grave.
This nonfiction book in a series of 8, explores the legend of La Llorona. The story of the ghostly apparition of a woman who was rumored to have drown her children for the love of a man but was remorseful immediately after and searched for them until she died. This was my favorite story so far as I love a good, absolutely terrifying ghost story. As with all books in this series, this also gives glimpses into other Lady in White ghost stories, but I was disappointed that the Connecticut story was not mentioned. As always, the book offers several different sites for further exploration again fostering learner motivation. There is even a connection from "science.howstuffworks."
good informational text, but not much actual info on la llorona herself. there is a lot of info on other ghosts that are similar to her, which is not very satisfactory for me because i picked up a book about la llorona, not anybody else.
