Awakened by the Giant--a Kindred Tale of the Jor'gen Kindred
A Giant Kindred devoted to science Clones a beautiful woman to learn from her But what Maddy teaches Calden is how to love And love is forbidden--punishable by Death Can they escape now that Maddy has been...Awakened by the Giant?
Meet the Jor’gen Kindred. After leaving the main Mother Ship centuries ago to make a genetic trade with a massive race of people, they are thirty percent bigger than their ancestors. Which makes them 9 feet tall—giants to regular sized humanoids. Hundreds of years after the genetic trade which made them so huge, the Jor’gen Kindred have no more females and are seeking a new people to trade with-- All but Calden
Believing he doesn't need a female in his life to be happy, Calden moves to the Mentat Space Station to devote his life to biological research through cloning. The Station is ruled by a harsh taskmaster--an AI called FATHER who forbids any females. But Calden doesn't care, as long as he is allowed to clone and study as many specimens as he wants. Then one day, the recovery droids find something new--the remains of a sentient human female and the ship she crashed in. Consumed by scientific curiosity, Calden gets special permission to make a clone of the dead woman--he doesn't know she will cause him to break the rules and risk his career and even death...when he falls in love with her.
Madeline Harris has no idea what's going on. She wakes up in a vat of green goo with her memories fractured, surrounded by the big, scary Mentats of the Station. Then a giant comes to save her. It doesn't take much for her to fall for Calden but she doesn't realize that the station is a hostile place for women...or that she could be in big trouble if the AI, FATHER, discovers how very much Calden cares for her in return.
Will they escape the Mentat Station in time to save Maddy's life? And will she ever forgive Calden for keeping deadly secrets from her? You'll have to read Awakened by the Giant to find out...
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
Not my favourite by a long way. Formulaic writing is getting really boring. I bought this book at full price. Ordered it a few hours after it became available on the 17th of feb. To be honest this book might have killed my interest in the series, and I’ve been following them since Baird and his boys showed up.Test tube brides in itching green gloop. No thanks.
I discovered this book as a preview after reading another Kindred book, so that shows that marketing like that really does work. I had other books to read, but I was craving an Evangeline Anderson book on my trip in Greece. (I'm sad we're leaving tomorrow :///)
Calden decided to leave the rest of his people, the Jor'gen Kindred, to mate-searching while he took a vow of a celibacy when he moved to the Mentat Space Station to devote his life to biological research via cloning. The station is ruled by an AI called the FATHER who forbids any females as they seem to cause discord.
Then, the remains of a human female from a crashed spacecraft are discovered. Calden decides to clone the remains, but what he doesn't expect is to fall in love with the clone of the one recovered body, Madeline!
I thought Maddie and Calden were super cute together.
This story reminded me of the Greek myth of Pygmalion. I really enjoyed it, but I just wished it was longer--like we got a few more scenes of them falling in love and talking at the space station. The book was tight at 262 pages.
I do enjoy the Kindred Tales, and I'll definitely keep reading them, but part of me can't help but think the main series, The Brides of the Kindred, was better. I think I thought this back when I used to read the main series, but again, that was so long ago. I lowkey wish I could rediscover the series again. For instance, I was trying to remember in which book Yipper was introduced. I think it was the book with the (first) Dark Kindred.
Pros: pet/ speciman to a 9 ft. Tall sexy alien Cons: kill switch implanted in her brain and time is running out. Evangeline Anderson is great at coming up with weird everything! I'll be looking for more Giant Kindreds!
The story line was good and opened up the line for anew set of “bad guys” if that is what she wanted. I love all the Kindred and the Giant Kindred are no exception. The character development and relationship seemed a bit rushed but it had a good flow. The only thing I would have liked was more on why the boding fruit was different with her and if it was somehow sentient. Another great story and can’t wait to read more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I miss the experience of reading a full-length Kindred book; these tales seem like a draft to me. Ms Anderson can write entertaining, funny, imaginative stories, but with the Kindred Tales the same patterns keep repeating over and over again...
I gave this tale a 3 star rating because I'm a big fan of the Kindred universe, but I'd rather read something of more substance, and Ms Anderson can do it. This is happening to other authors, though...
I must admit, when I was first introduced to the giant Jor'gen Kindred, I was not impressed. Now after reading Calden and Maddy's story, I have a better insight into their species.
Like their brothers, The Jor'gen Kindred were looking for mates. Calden never dreamed of finding his so he seperated himself from his kind and settled on studying genetics with another alien race that had no Females.
Maddie cannot remember much of her life before meeting Calden. When she learns the truth she is torn between staying or going. Maddies does not know if she wants to live or if her life has been a lie.
I loved the genetics side of this story, and the introduction of the Jor'gen Kindred. I am also curious to learn more about their unique Bonding Fruit Plant. When Calden and Maddie are guided to the Mothetship, there are quite a few surprises. Sylvan was not aware of the Jor'gen still being alive, and Calden now has a mission to find the second Mothership with his people. I do hope in future these two worlds collide.
My only downside to this story is that it felt a little rushed, and I did not like the alien species Calden studied with. They were nasty and I hope we do not see them again.
Overall a plesant story with many future questions and possible side stories.
I am really in awe of Evangeline Anderson and the skills she has for bringing a story to life. She has the uncanny knack of being able to continue this series with new storylines, characters and new worlds without repeating herself in each book. Awakened by the Giant is no exception. I loved the story of Madeline and Calden. Calden is the sexy Jor'gen Kindred who has been living apart from his kind for many years hoping to make a life for himself on Mentat station amongst the Mantats. Being a scientist living there has suited him fine until he discovers the wreckage of the spaceship, Kennedy. Madeline wakes from what she believes is a dream to find herself in place she doesn't understand. Its a race against time to save Madeline and even if Calden can save Madeline will their love be strong enough to get past what Calden had to do to ensure Madelines life continued.... This is a great read. Grab it today!
As addictive as the bonding fruit of her stories, Evangeline Anderson produces yet another of her Kindred Tales that tap into women’s insecurities about their bodies while providing a template for the ideal relationship based on love and respect. In this case, it is a giant Kindred Scientist who is living in a self-imposed exile bereft of women who rescues the remains of a Spacefaring Human Scientist and clones her. A relatively straightforward tale describes their deepening attraction with a satisfying conclusion. As with all of Evangeline’s characters, Maddie and Camden each grow personally through the exploration of their interaction with each other. Uplifting and Heartwarming!
Not the best Kindred book but enjoyable nonetheless! Calden and Madeline are in another galaxy from our usual Kindred folk but Madeline is from earth even though she is a clone! Calden cloned her from her remains found in a derelict space ship that escaped earth on the arrival of the Scourge! She has no way of knowing the outcome of that scenario due to where she is and the nature of the space station she finds herself on! Still, a good premise with some convenient and expected drama and outcomes does not detract from a fluid read! The characters, as usual, are well developed and on the whole, likeable and I still recommend this as part of the series even though it is not up to the usual standard
Calden and Maddy story was an amazing addition to the series. We meet Calden a scientist who is only interested studying and discovering new species. When Calden discovers a ship that has been wrecked but found an interesting female woman. This is were we meet our leading lady Maddy. I really enjoyed the interaction between the main characters as they discover each other there connection is explosive and heartwarming. Like any other kindred novel we have some bad guys and action. Of course steamy love scenes. I couldn't put this book down. I am already ready for the next book to be released.
I spent a lazy Sunday afternoon curled up with this book totally engrossed. I do love these Kindred men, far removed from reality...or are they? Calden is a 3 metre tall Giant Kindred dwarfing Maddy, who at 5'10" probably felt like a big girl on Earth. Calden has a secret about Maddy, once she discovers will their relationship fall apart? The bad guys as usual will make you shudder and of course the Goddess will make everything turn out right. I really enjoyed the romance between these two characters and the race for survival.
While 9 ft sounds intimidating, seriously, who wouldn’t want to trip over a Jor’gen Kindred? Calden is a real sweetheart despite his naïveté showing through at times. Maddie too, is a sweetheart; I think she has now become my favorite Kindred bride (sorry Kat!). Making Maddie a clone and teaming her up with one of the Giant Kindred made for an entertaining read. These two are an excellent addition to the Kindred universe and I look forward to further appearances in upcoming books.
You will enjoy this Kindred Brides story. There's Intrigue, Surprises, Revulsion, Rage, Indifference, Action, Disappointments, Sexual Awakening, Sexual Harassment, Cloning, Death, and Funny Dismemberment, Arrogance, Due Diligence, Urgency, Deception, Wild Abandonment Of Bonding Sex, (Complements and You Absolutely Understandable That They Lived Happily Ever AFTERWARDS WHOOPS DON'T FORGET HER FREAKING Miniature....😅😉😯 SNUFF-A-GULF-A-LUST Bonding Blocking Critter.
A kindred warrior working on a science space station cloning and studying various animal life. Droids locate part of a space ship that has a lot of plant seeds and animal embryos. They also find a human woman. Everything is brought back to the space station and the warrior is given permission to clone the various animals and the woman. You will have to read the book to find out what all happens to both of them as well as the aliens on the space station.
Another great addition to the Kindred series. This book was definitely not like your typical Kindred story still the same I enjoyed this book. Lots of Wow factor plenty of intrigue and of course steamy romance to keep you hooked from beginning to end. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I received a free copy via Booksprout I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Calden is a Giand Kindred that has given up on ever finding a mate. He is employed as a scientist aboard a ship that studies life forms by cloning. The catch... there is a kill switch implanted in all the clones. Calden is perfectly happy with his job until he clones a human. Maddie is different than any other clone he has studied. Her feeling and medical knowledge about his animal specimens intrigue Calden and he starts to see her differently.
What happens when a Jor'gen Kindred scientist, finds a dead human female in a wrecked spaceship, and decides to clone her for research purposes, only to fall in love with her. Besides being the only female amongst a group of awful looking and smelly Mentat aliens, she doesn't know she died with all the rest of her shipmates. I loved it. Awesome!!
We met a new species, but they're not very social. There were clones also, thankfully Maddie was the only sentient one. The romance hit her usual 5 star standards. And I really want a picture of the little Snuffy! (Excuse the sub par quality of this review. I'm in my math brain right now.)
Waking up on a space station having no memory of that event was disconcerting. The next thing that happened was looking up at an Alien, a Giant 9ft at least. Fleeing Earth was why the space craft she had been in with several other scientists needed to find another planet to settle on, not expecting an accident to happen. Excellent story.
What a roller coaster this one was, thought it was strange that they were able to leave like that. Good for Maddy taking that nasty thing and biting it like that, you go girl. Glad that Snuffy was able to come out all right with this. Crazy about Tabby already being on the mothership and how did the debrief from the Kennedy go? Will Calden be able to keep doing the same experiments?
These kindered males.......they just keep me reading hope they never end . Such an enjoyable read thanks again 😊 I have a few more ready to read and can't wait .
With the induction of the Giant Kindred and the possibility of a second mother ship, just made this adventure into the Bride's of the Kindred way more interesting. Glad to read that none of the original characters we not lost along the way.
So Calden is a 9' Kindred. Whoa! Madeline is nearly 6', but that still leaves a huge height difference! This is a story about what happens when a scientist falls for what is supposed to be his "specimen." It's a fun read.
A gentle giant who clones "specimens" that are inserted with an end date and he was extremely saddened by the cute little branthas deaths. Then he cloned Madeline.
This story was a little strange with the giant, the human, and the scary aliens on a space station. I loved the HEA. I loved how Maddy took care of a scary situation. I even liked how they made up after a terrible misunderstanding in the end.
Not as interesting as I thought it would be, pacing was a little slow and reading this after a long day day at work at 10pm? My eyes couldn't open or stay focused long enough to appreciate every word.
Love this author! Read the book in one day and just couldn’t put it down. I hope there are more stories that involve the giant kindred. Such a good series.
