oh man, that ending - since this is different than the anime, I have no idea what is coming, but this was tough.

Half the Twelve Guardians are women and you still have this dude going "a girl can't possibly handle the power of a Twelve Guardian" come on man, this manga is really trying to do a "GIRL POWER" volume but has to pull sexism out of its ass to justify it. Are some of the fights cool? For once, yes! Some of the best-looking fights of the whole series, with some actual emotional weight to it. Unfortunately it's all been smothered by the whole "motherhood is the only way for women to have value" thing it keeps perpetuating over and over again, except in this volume... being a DAUGHTER to a MOTHER is a way to have value! What a role-reversal!

I don't know of another manga or graphic novel that has as many normal characters die in one volume than this one. And we're no where close to the end.

Dang.

This volume gets five stars for the spectacular fight scenes and watching Rokuro's family members growing spines to help Alice. I was tempted to take off a star for the abomination that is the power scale in this series (the fight between Sakura and Zeze versus Gabura is probably the worst example of this so far) but I did truly enjoy the fight scenes and seeing Shizuru step up to the plate was great. I will say, I didn't get emotional over the last chapter, but I like how familial love is as important in this series as romantic love. Some series focus more on one than the other and I appreciate Twin Star Exorcists for having both be prominently displayed and not implying that one is superior than the other. Good job, Twin Star Exorcists, good job.
