Steve Richer is the bestselling author of the action thriller The President Killed His Wife. He went to law school and film school before considering becoming a sherpa, though he abandoned the idea upon discovering what a sherpa really was. Now he spends his days writing books.
He specializes in fun, over the top thrillers that read like action movies. He splits his time between Montreal and Miami.
I just loved this book. First book I’ve read by this author and I’m going to try some more of his books
I loved Alice and Tom. Like the perfect couple. Can’t beat as a bit of banter with your Oh
Anyway... You’ve got your typical couple. As kidney struggles take over as Alice and Tom. Times are getting tough so they decided to rent their basement out. Then Alice and Tom find their perfect tenant. Friendly and Bubbly. They can’t believe their look that they’ve found someone so *perfect* but to their dismay libbie isn’t who she’s made out to be. She’s out for revenge
As puts her plan together m, libbie causes a wedge between Alice and Tom. To ruin their life or even kill them
Tom and Alice don’t realise the danger they’re in? Will they realise in tine? What lengths will libbie go to to get her revenge?
This is an edge of your seat , unputdownable read. The Crime / Psych Suspense Genres have exploded over the last few years bringing fabulous new authors. I can best describe the book as a cross between films like Fatal Attraction & Single White Female yet the writing is original, fast paced with a tight story arc. Will follow this author
This was a good book and easy to read but was very predictable. I knew who the bad guy was from the start but kept reading for the reason behind why there was so much revenge and hatred.
Possibly the most ridiculous book ever! I couldn't even finish the last chapter. Luckily i can speed read, which i did in the hope it may improve but it didn't.
Great thriller, if you like Coben or Barclay, you'll like this one. The new tenant in the basement apartment has it in for her landlords, but it's not clear why. Lots of fun to read about her mechanizations as she works to destroy their relationship and their lives. One of my favorite indie authors.
Meh. The story kind of drags, is too typical, and has no real twists. On the up side the grammar and composition are better than average, and character development is well done, so it’s a toss up. It’s not bad, but it’s not great!
It will depend on your mood at the time you start reading!
I was going to really slam this book until I read the part about Richer writing his books like action movies and I got. You really have to suspend reality to enjoy this book. From the very beginning of just seemed contrived. Who leaves extra keys labeled on their table for someone to help themselves. Who tells their new tenant they barely, Hey, yes hang out in my house while my wife is having a diabetic and I will be right down to entertain you. I skipped quite a bit of the book because it ridiculous and skipped to the end. But if you like badly written action movies you might like it.
This story is creepy and a little disturbing, well a lot disturbing..... The perfect tenant, is a perfect psychopath ! Very intense on how far Libbie will go to destroy Tom and Alice. She rents their basement apartment, and makes life miserable for the couple. She plays the helpful friend and keeps Tom and Alice unaware that she's causing the problems. It's very intense and creepy the misery she instills on this couple..... You need to keep reading to see what will happen and why it's happening..... Great thriller. Great Author. 👍
I found this book disappointing all round. The plot, character development, and conversations held between the characters sub-standard. I would not describe this as gripping nor thrilling. Married couple Alice and Tom come across as immature and frankly stupid and chief protagonist Libbie their tenant, would have most people highly suspicious early on with her repeated popping around visits. Disappointing.
WOW - what a really good psychological thriller this book is. You never know everything about a person do you? This is exactly what Tom and Alice Granger had to go through with their new “perfect tenant.” Tom had basically gone through a mental breakdown and was no longer able to work at his former job. He had to work doing freelance transcription, while Alice was the bread winner for the household. They had also invested in a property that they hoped to be able to sell soon. With all of the expenses on the property and Tom not working at a good paying job, the money was really becoming scarce. Alice decided to talk with Tom about renting the basement apartment out to help with the strain on their money situation. They had interviewed quite a few. All of them seemed to not be a good fit, until Libbie Burchett arrived on their doorstep. She seemed like a real breath of fresh air compared to the former candidates. Her references checked out and the Grangers felt good about their choice. So what could possibly go wrong?? Alice was the lead on the Mapleview Account, which could make or break the company she worked for. It would also ensure that she received the VP position that she had been working so hard for. After Libbie moved in, she was always showing up at the front door. It seemed as if she was trying to be the perfect neighbor, always polite, caring, and thoughtful. However, this was just a facade. She would take pictures of either Tom or Alice with another individual and make it look like the two were interested in other people. She tried to cause a rift between Alice and Tom. Things started going wrong and spiraled downhill, after she moved in. Alices’ presentation was basically hacked and the figures were all wrong, causing her to almost lose her job as well as the VP position. Her health began to fail, since she was a diabetic. There were issues with the investment property as well. Libbie was able to portray herself as the most caring and kind person. The Grangers didn’t think that she was responsible for all the problems that suddenly appeared. What was the reason for Libbie to be targeting them? What was the secret that she was holding on to. Was she a person to be worried about? Would she harm them? Would they ever regain their footing on the finances of their household? Would Alice lose her job? Would they find out that Libbie was a fraud? This book was really written well. The plot was well throughout. I enjoyed all the characters with all of their flaws and strengths. Can’t wait for the next book!!
Watch out for people renting rental properties from you!
Do a very thorough background check on anyone that your going to rent some of your property to! If they don't have enough background information on them, or if their background information only started within the last 10 years or so, that could be a big red flag! Watch out for people you mightve innocently offended from your past, or presently! These are just a couple of my words of wisdom when reading this book. But let's all remember this book is Fiction, and it is a good thriller read! There's the inevitable you kind of know where the book is going, but the way it goes and turns out is twisted! This is a good book to read if your looking for a good book to read in one day cause you'll have a hard time putting it down, unless it's just for a snack or a bathroom break!
Tom and Alice were so gullible. They just met their new tenant and believed everything she told them without question. Libbie was so manipulative but they didn't see that, didn't think anything of it. The scene with Libby in the car, and Tom's non-action to even mention it, was just bizarre. Tom and Alice had arguments that didn't even make sense. One would make a comment and the other would totally blow it out of proportion. The end was very expected, except for Libbie's brother making an appearance. There was only one very brief reference of her brother but then he appears at the end.
After reading a couple of Steve Richer books, I was expecting a lot better than this. It felt like a superficial attempt at writing for English 101. There really wasn't any cohesiveness to this book. It felt like he struggled with it from the opening chapter. I understand that not every book, by the same author, can be well written and unfortunately this is that book. Even Libby was so poorly developed that I couldn't feel horror about her actions. I'm sorry that I can't recommend this book despite the fact that the author has written really amazing books.
I totally felt like I was watching a movie.. Like a lifetime special! I love those so that's a compliment!!! Reminds me of something I would have watched with my mom when she was still alive.
Definitely a good read if you like psych thrillers/suspense, etc...
I am going to see if there are more books similar from thos author through Kindle unlimited... I've found so many great reads in just that past 2 weeks or so!
Not the book I thought it would be. After the first chapter I pretty much could guess the end and did. The editor or author could have cut a least 150 pages out of this book. Not very interesting for me and I read a lot of scary books, this one was nowhere near that, sorry I don't mean to insult the author's but maybe next time cut some of the repeat lines out. I never hardly give one or two stars but this was just not my cup of tea or coffee.
The Perfect Tenant by Steve Richer. Tom and Alice have been having some financial problems and decide to rent their basement apartment. But when Libbie shows up is she really the perfect tenant? A fast paced read the will rope you in quickly and is hard to put down!🌟🌟🌟🌟Four stars
Yea, this one takes hold of you and keeps you turning pages. You can tell by the name what this book is basically about, and it is, but it's good! A well crafted psychological thriller! Stranger Danger was easy to figure out as well, but well worth the read by this same writer!
This book is quite entertaining if you take it for what it is; pure entertainment. The whole time I was reading it, I knew that all I was doing was watching a Lifetime movie, and a bad one at that. I finished it in about three hours because hey, it's a slow night at work and I have nothing better to do.
This book intrigued me by what's behind Libbie's past and forth coming actions. You have to read to the end to find out. It is surprising how a manipulating person can come between one of the strongest bonds of love between a couple who are perfect for each other.
This book was excellent. Kept me excited to the very end and then wrapped everything up into a nice neat package. Nothing better than having g a gripping story and then everything is solved!!
Great suspenseful, page-turning book! It was definitely a not to put down book. Once I started I was hooked. Great use of characters, plot & suspense that kept me guessing until the end!
A real page turner! A clever plot , a believable set of characters and and ending that tied up the loose ends. An enjoyable read...... I look forward to starting my next book by this author.
It was a good read. I was glad to have it while I was stuck at the airport for 8 hours, waiting to fly out...it really did keep me from going completely stir crazy! It read like a Lifetime movie, completely a guilty pleasure. Enjoyable. I’ll look for more from this author.
Good story. Did have trouble putting this one down. I normally prefer watching this type story in a movie but the author is so good I could "see" the story Well worth the read!
This book didn’t blow me away but it was pretty entertaining. Libby’s character really angered me and kept me on my toes. Overall it was a good read and I’ll be checking out more books from this author (I’ve already read 2 and have not been disappointed).
