Hell-bent on revenge, orphaned rancher Elsie Fin rustles cattle from her neighbor, who she blames for her father’s untimely death. She’s so successful at stealing that she doesn’t stop even when the local marshal gets suspicious. Instead, she decides what she needs is a loyal husband to protect her from the law, so she places a mail-order groom advertisement in the paper.
While seeking her groom, Elsie hires Wyatt Parker to help her around the ranch. Little does she know, he’s actually an undercover deputy tasked with gaining her trust and verifying the marshal’s suspicion of her theft.
Wyatt never imagined a beautiful, sweet woman like Elsie would be the mastermind behind such a serious illegal activity. To his way of thinking, she’s more deserving of a spanking than life in prison. He wants to figure out how to save her, but will Elsie end up behind bars or married to her mail-order groom before he can?
Warning: Justice for Elsie is an historical western romance containing sexual scenes and domestic discipline, including punishment spanking. If these themes offend you, please don't buy this book.

Once again, Ms. Smarts has created a wonderful western with delightful characters that keep the pages turning. A dominant take-charge man who will come looking for a job as a ranch hand but in fact has been hired as an undercover deputy, and a young orphan, who is determined to exact revenge on the neighbor whose actions lead to her father’s death.
Elsie Fin is mourning the loss of her father, and she is determined that she is going to make the Xavier’s pay for their actions that lead to her father’s early death. Rustling cattle and rebranding them is risky for her, and for her loyal ranch hands.
Down on his luck cowhand, Wyatt Parker lost his last job after an injury that made working cattle too difficult to continue. Getting fired after ten years of service hurt, but losing his girlfriend to the boss’ daughter left a bad taste in his mouth. Maybe he needs a new line of work, like law enforcement. Agreeing to go undercover at the Infinity Ranch doesn’t seem that difficult until he meets Elsie.
The plot will have two ranching families at war with each other, the Xavier and the Fin. Grief and anger can lead to doing things that are outside of normal behavior. What starts out as just taking back a few heads of cattle, escalated and is noticeable, stirring up anger that could lead to disaster. Proving it will require outside help, and Wyatt will be hired to help on the ranch, just not with the cattle. The more he works around the ranch with Elsie, the more he likes her.
The relationship between them has several spankings and a friendship developing. Helping Wyatt with his should offer him a chance to heal and be pain-free. Finishing up this undercover assignment is crucial to him pursuing a relationship with Elsie. Learning by accident that she is meeting a mail-order groom from New York doesn’t sit right with him. The green-eyed monster makes an appearance.
There is great chemistry between the naïve Elsie and Wyatt. Will she come clean and tell him the truth about what she has been doing? Will he follow the law and arrest her and her ranch hands? The story has the innocence of a young eighteen-year-old, with an attraction to new ranch hand. She does some foolish things, and when he makes the threat that if she does it again, he will spank her, she puts him to the test. Her flirting is obvious, and he doesn’t take advantage of her. But what happens when he learns she is going to marry a mail-order groom? Will he just step back and let it happen or declare his feelings for her?
The story has angst, anger, bitterness, revenge, cattle rustling, secrets, a dominant man who knows how to take a naughty girl in hand. There are several spankings and sex scenes. A few people from previous stories will also be in this one. Maybe the best way for this undercover temporary lawman to succeed is to take her into permanent custody as his wife.
Amelia Smarts TANTALIZES once again in this heart-tugging tale of revenge and redemption set in the Old West!! This author always manages to transport me to the rugged frontier with her vibrant characters, picturesque descriptions and wonderful attention to detail of that time period. Every time I read one of her beguiling books, I know I am going to be taken on quite an adventure and left feeling all warm and toasty inside. And JUSTICE FOR ELSIE is no exception!

Elsie may try his patience at times with her foolish, impulsive actions, which earns her a few trips over his knee for stern chastisements she won’t soon forget, she ultimately brings out a fierce protectiveness and tender devotion in him that proves to be his undoing! His ego took a mighty big walloping after his last round of bad luck, but she makes him feel strong and able. However, as real feelings bloom between these two, can he stake his claim on her heart before she learns of his deception and winds up another man’s bride?
MY THOUGHTS: I RELISHED every single moment of this third installment in Amelia Smarts Mail-Order Grooms series! This rollicking tale was chock full of heartfelt emotion, scorching hot interludes, tinglelicious bottom warmings and gave me a plethora of warm, gooey feels from start to finish. Ms. Smarts always weaves a wonderfully unique, character-driven storyline to go with the smexy times and I just adored these protagonists and the predicaments they faced!
The sparkling chemistry and sizzling sexual tension between Wyatt and Elise was OFF THE CHARTS sweet and deliciously titillating! In my opinion, NO ONE pens strong, dominant yet gentle-hearted frontier heroes and headstrong, yet achingly vulnerable heroines quite like the mega talented Ms. Smarts, and Wyatt and Elsie lassoed my heart from the very start! I love how the gentlemanly yet uncompromising undercover deputy takes sweet, spunky, woefully misguided Elise in hand and ever so dotingly heals her emotional wounds. And, in return, he finds a new lease on life, a purpose, that he never dreamed possible. She fills Wyatt’s heart with gladness and brightens the dark corners of his world, and he makes her feels safe and cherished and OH SO LOVED! And did I mention the domestic discipline sessions and sexy times were kindle-melting hot?! All I can say is YUM!!!
This was an audible listen for me, and each and every moment filled me with GIDDY DELIGHT! The narrator, Logan McAllister, was fanfreakingtastic! This is my first audio by him and he is PERFECT for the genre. His deep, rumbly baritone is wonderfully suited for the time period and his depiction of the soft-spoken, ruggedly handsome, uber-protective Wyatt left me all aquiver! Mr. McAllister also did a fine job narrating Elise and the various other supporting characters as well. He really brought these characters to life and did incredible justice to Amelia Smarts' wildly entertaining storyline and her beloved, vibrant characters. He is now on my one click audio-buy list and hopefully he will be narrating many more books for the gifted Ms. Smarts!
FINAL THOUGHTS: If you are looking for a charming and scintillating frontier tale that warms your heart, leaves you squirming, and has you dreaming of lassoing a strong, chivalrous rancher of your own, then JUSTICE FOR ELISE is guaranteed to satisfy!
This book is so ridiculous that I quit reading very early into it. Even though it is fiction it should be at least a little bit believable and relatable.
Thank you to Amelia Smarts for sending me a free audiobook in return for an honest review.
Justice for Elise is a historical romance that focuses on Elsie, a young and ambitious girl runs her father's farm following his death. Her hatred to a man she holds responsible is getting out of hand as she seeks revenge, but it's becoming an addiction. She begins to feel like a real man is needed on the farm and orders for a mail-order groom. Unknowing that a handsome man, Wyatt will soon be knocking on her door looking for a job, posing as a farm hand while working as a deputy, searching to see if Elsie is actually stealing cattle.
I really liked this book. I've not read a western style romance before but loving western films I guessed that it would be my cup of tea. It really was. I found the politics of the story really interesting, the kind of things that the characters were arguing over was quite funny but also very realistic for the time.
The chemistry between Wyatt and Elsie was brilliant, and very well portrayed by the narrator. Wyatt was a little older than Elsie and this was really shown in the writing, he was a lot more mature and serious, whereas Elsie, although obviously grown up for her young age of eighteen, she had a childish side, such as her schoolgirl crush that she developed for Wyatt and her little stubborn streaks.
The author did warn in the blurb that there were punishment spankings. Although I could see why it was warned and why some people may be offended by it, I didn't really think that this was necessary as it was completely appropriate for the time that it was. The spankings weren't at all disturbing, if anything they could be a little hot...
I really liked the idea of the storyline of an undercover deputy. The forming bond of the two main characters. The narrative was great and Logan McAllister, the narrator really brings you to the scene with his cowboy accent.
The story was great and I'll definitely seek out western romances again, The only negative thing on my list would be that Logan McAllister pronounced Elsie wrong. He kept reading it at Elise. Which isn't a complete horror, but it was the wrong name which was quite funny.
Elsie wants vengeance for her father. Her neighbors and rivals, the Xanders, drove her father to his death and then had the guts to show up at his funeral. Eighteen year old Elsie can't be having that, so she gets together with her ranch hands and concocts a plan to get back at the Xanders and make her ranch more profitable at the same time. After a nearly a year, her ranch hands are trying to get her to stop, and the sheriff is suspicious.
Wyatt is a cowboy who has hurt his arm and gotten fired from his job, and shafted by his old boss. He decides that he wants to change his profession and be a lawman. When he rides into Virgina City, he approaches the sheriff and asks for a job. The sheriff tells him to go to Elsie's ranch and try to pin down what's going on.
Elsie has decided that she needs a strong husband to help her, so she has followed in her friends' footsteps and written an ad for a mail order groom. Will that groom be the strong man she is looking for or is what she wants right under her nose?
I love the twist on mail order bride stories with this series. I think it's an excellent way to take control of your own destiny and find what you are looking for if what you want isn't right there.
Elsie is one tough cookie and she works as hard as her ranch hands on making her ranch successful. However, that doesn't mean she doesn't have a hear too, and the way that she cares for Wyatt shows her generous side. Wyatt is the kind of hero pretty much every young woman dreams of at some point in her life.
I really enjoyed this story, as I have everything else that Amelia Smarts has written.
I got an ARC and you got my honest and voluntary review.
Elsie Fin is 18 years old and running the family ranch after her father dies from exhaustion. The rich ranch next to them, dammed up the water, so they had to carry water to cattle from a well. After her father's death, the sheriff made the rich neighbor undam the water.
Elsie's grief turned to revenge when she came up with a way to change the neighbor's X brand to her ranch's infinity symbol. The ranch prospered in the cattle rustling plan. Though after a year, her foreman was suggesting it was time to stop, before the law caught them.
Elsie knows she should stop, but her grief is still strong. She wishes she had a husband to help her do right and take some of the ranch responsibilities. She writes for a mail-order groom.
Wyatt Parker is a down on his luck cowboy, who after losing his last job because of an injury, hopes to change professions and become a deputy. The sheriff hires him as an undercover cowhand at Elsie's ranch, in hopes of finding evidence of the rustling.
The chemistry is strong between Elsie and Wyatt. She is forward seeking what she wants from him. Though he is attracted, he is there undercover and doesn't what to take advantage of the young woman. Especially after she repairs his injured shoulder.
Elsie's mail-order groom arrives in town, and she goes to meet him. Wyatt witnesses the exchange at the restaurant and decides it is time for him to claim Elsie as his own.
There is never a dull moment in an Amelia Smarts book! I don't know where the ideas come from, but this historical western, with a woman in charge of a ranch is a pleasure to listen to. The heroine Elsie Fin, at the young age of 18, comes up with a vengeful plan to rustle cows from the one man that she feels killed her father. Mark Xavier's actions put Elsie's farm at risk, and now she plans on getting some compensation. She decides it's time to settle down, and puts in an ad for a mail-order groom. In the mean time, Wyatt Parker comes to her ranch and she hires him to help around the homestead. Their attraction to each other is apparent, but she doesn't know his real purpose for being there. The questions at this point is will their relationship bloom, will she land in jail for stealing the cattle and what will become of the groom she has chosen? So much going on, the listen is quick and satisfying. Smarts has a way of writing her characters with spunky personality and perseverance as well as sizzling chemistry, it's hard to put the book down! And Wyatt's way of keeping Elsie in line...hot...
Logan McAllister narrates this book with an ease and comfort that draws you right back to the time period. He gives Wyatt that alpha male voice to make you melt and the tenacity that Elsie needs to keep herself believable in a man's world. Great storytelling!
ByDonna Lon October 16, 2017 Format: Kindle Edition I thoroughly enjoyed this romantic western by Amelia Smarts. It was an easy read with interesting characters.Elsie Fin's life changed irrevocably after the death of her father, she was left to pick up the pieces and keep the family ranch afloat.I was drawn to Elsie and Wyatt, they were made for each other and easy to fall in love with.Elsie wants revenge,Mark Xavier had been responsible for her father's death.Wyatt Parker was a undercover deputy sent to work for Elsie to find information on her criminal ways. This backfired when he fell in love with Elsie. All she wanted a a strong man so she advertised for a mail order groom.Wyatt was furious,he knows Elsie has feelings for him. This story has danger, romance, cattle rustling, danger and spankings. The dialogue, scenery, characters feelings, are so well crafted that before I knew it I was finished reading this book.Wyatt was a strong handed man, just what Elsie had been looking for. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book
The story starts out with Elsie as a law breaking woman, but the hired help, changes her. Wyatt is a law enforcement agent, who wants to catch Elsie and bring her to justice. As the story unfolds, the only justice Wyatt wants to bring Elsie is in the bedroom.
I listened to this book in one sitting. I couod not put it down. There is a little of everything in this story. Romance, suspense and spankings keep this story captivating.
Logan McAllister is a perfect narrator for this book. His deep, raspy voice draws out the ruggedness of Wyatt. His different pitches are constant and easy to distinguish between characters. Mr. McAllister narrated this book in such a way that he brought it to life. He was able to narrate each characters attitude and emotions with ease. I would love to hear more from him.
Elsie knows that the Xaviers are responsible for her father's death and she's bound and revenge is on her mind. She rustles their cattle with a genius plan to switch the brands by using one on top of the other. Down on his luck, Wyatt Parker arrives at her doorstep looking for work. He has an injured arm and isn't able to do the tougher chores, but that's okay as long as he can help Elsa with her plan. What Elsa doesn't know is that he's been deputized by the sheriff to watch to see if Elsa is responsible for the cattle that have "gone missing" from the Xaviers' ranch. It's a really sweet and smart story of Elsa and Wyatt falling in love and cleverly skirting around the sheriff's orders. The narration by Logan McAllister is terrific. His dynamic, clear voice, solid pace and inflection give each character a distinct personality and attitude as he brings them to life.
When Elsie's father dies, running the ranch becomes her job. But someone is determinded to see her fail. When Wyatt comes to town in search of a job, he ends up being hired by the Sheriff to see if Elsie is stealing cattle from her neighbor. What starts out as deception quickly turns into something else and Wyatt finds himself wanting to protect Elsie and also apply some discipline that he feels she needs. She is too reckless and puts herself in danger and he has decided he will be the one to stop that. There is still danger though and Wyatt needs to make sure she isn't hurt. Will he get the job done? I loved this quick story and this genre that Amelia Smarts writes has become one of my favorites! I can't wait for the next book in this series!
Elsie blames the death of her father on the neighboring ranch. To get her revenge she steals their cattle. Wyatt is tasked to find out who is behind the cattle-rustling. So he goes undercover on her ranch and he soon finds out that the culprit is indeed Elsie. But he did not expect to fall in love with her. Wyatt is determined to make Elsie stop even if it means that he will have to spank her.
What a fantastic western romance. I immediately fell in love with Elsie and Wyatt. They simply were made for each other. I could feel Elsie's grief and it made me so happy how Wyatt managed to help her overcome all the negativity. Wyatt is stern and yet gentle and caring at the same time. Who can withstand such a man? I can't and I enjoyed reading the book from start to finish.
This audiobook story is a 'page turner' and a most enjoyable listen. It is simply written with each scene grabbing and holding one's interest. There is a bit of 'steam' so be prepared for that. I love the connection between Ellie and Wyatt and the chemistry between them. I also love Ellie's scheme to right the wrong done to her and her father. It was clever even if it was illegal. Logan McAllister is a new narrator to me and I just love the deepness and versatility of his voice. He really helps bring this story to life. I received a copy of this audiobook for free and this is my unbiased review of it.
I really enjoyed this third book in the series. Elsie is a young woman that has gone down a path she can't seem to turn away from. Wyatt is just the man to put her back on the straight and narrow. Both characters were very likeable and worked really well together. I really liked Wyatt's struggle to manage his feelings for Elsie while still doing the job he was hired to do. I connected with Elsie almost immediately and really wanted to see her succeed not only with Wyatt, but with life in general. The book was very well paced with a nice mix of drama and romance. This is definitely a book worth reading.
This is the third book in a series with strong men, strong but submissive women, and spanking for punishment. I enjoyed the series but this book felt a little rushed in the character and relationship development. Elsie is a young woman who I would expect to be a little more shy about things in the beginning.
I loved Elsie's motivation to get even with the man who killed her father and thought she had a good plan. I would have preferred a little longer story with a more slowly developed relationship between Elsie and Wade. The story was believable for the most part and I enjoyed it, although this was my least favorite book in this series. A good story, just not a great one.
This is a wonderful series by this author. Originally, I read this story as part of an anthology, but reread it in its revised book edition. I enjoyed it even more this second time. A little more of Elsie's perspective was conveyed in this version that made her even more appealing than in the first story's rendition. As short as this tale is, I would have liked more tidbits from of the other stories, Susannah and Adam, Betsy and Roderick, as well as, at least an epilogue on the budding Florence and Harvey relationship.
Nice little historical romance with quality characters. Elsie lost her mother at a young age. Then her Father when she was 18. That left her in charge of their Infinity ranch, and feeling some serious revenge against the Xavier ranch. Years of anguish between the ranches have led to some discord between the two. Elsie Fin feels her only way to move on in her life is to send for a mail order husband. However, when Wyatt Parker shows up on her doorstep looking to be a ranch hand , her life begins to change. There are some steamy moments in the book, and a happy ever after!
Elsie is driven to justice - or at least vengeance - for her late father, which involves risky and illegal means of saving her ranch. Wyatt is on the job to help her and find out exactly what is going on. These two find that their undeniable chemistry is an unexpected complication that threatens to reveal their own secrets. The romance blossoms as all the truths come to light, giving them a wonderful HEA with a satisfying resolution to all the troubles. I truly enjoyed every part of this story.
Justice For Elsie was just another masterpiece from Amelia Smarts who knows her way around a great novel. I love these themed ebooks and practice the dynamic which makes these ebooks so special to me. They depict a time when men were men and women were women. Men were the protectors, women the happy recipients of that. Love was something very special and men courted women before tying the knot. But this book was believable and the characters really came to life. Bravo! Amelia a big thumbs up.
This was a rather quick read. A historical western spanking story that was not exciting or really entertaining.
I have read this author's work before, but this book didn't seem to have the same amount of detail or the depth of a storyline. It started out pretty good. I liked both Elsie and Wyatt. After a while, it felt like a rush to the finish line.
The epilogue felt more like an afterthought than an epilogue. The redeeming quality of this book was that it was short.
The typical Amelia Smarts story. Boy meets girl and both are immediately attracted to each other. The girl has no problem with the boy spanking her when he is displeased with her. In fact she is turned on by it. The fact that she does not know him that well does not matter . If you have read one of Amelia's Smarts stories you have pretty much read them all. The only thing that changes is the names.
His naughty little cattle rustler - He was bound by his word to deceive her, but Wyatt couldn't help falling for Elsie. She gave him a job, a roof and come-hither vibes. Now he has to figure out how to get the job done and keep his woman safe. A well-narrated story with great characters, except the Xavier men of course. Even the sheriff turned out not to be so bad.
Loved this story great storyline Elsie looking for revenge and Wyatt who was an undercover cop and dominant to definitely my idea of a story Amelia Smarts never dissapoints me with her stories I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
A wonderfully romantic story. The twists in this western are so well written and the humor is wonderful. The characters very quickly touch your heat and become book friends. A great sexy read. I would recommend this to everyone who likes their cowboys hot and sexy.
Justice for Elsie by Amelia Smarts was another great read by the author. Elsie is hell bent on finding her father’s murderer and develops a cattle-rustling operation. Wyatt is an undercover detective trying to find information about the operation. This was a great read.
this wasn't bad. it was pretty quick though. I enjoyed the premise though. And I may go back and give the first two books in the series a try. There was a little spanking in there that seemed a little out of place though so I'm not sure it was meant to be a theme of the series or not.
