David Wallace Booth is a professor of education who specializes in the teaching of literacy and the use of innovative ways to promote literacy among children.
He is the author of many books for teachers and parents, texts for classroom use, and award winning children's picture books.
Reading this book would give you the idea that the world was totally wonderful and nature was never cruel. I wonder how much we should be telling children about the truth. I prefer reality.
Most of the poems in this book did not grab me, but there were a handful in the beginning about spring splashing in your eye and the way summer smells that were great!
In my opinion, poetry should either grab you & make you think about something, and sing to you. Especially if for children. Few of these did either, despite being written by famous authors. I didn't care for the art, either. Everything struck me as amateurish or second-best.
The best, for the song of it, for the way it will 'fit in a pocket' is:
*Fishes Come Bite* by Beatrix Potter.
Fishes come bite! Fishes come bite! I have fished all day; I will fish all night. I sit in the rain on my lily-leaf boat, But never a minnow will bob my float, Fishes come bite!
