One of the reasons why Sabrina James loves writing romantic comedies is because she loves reading them and watching them! Two of her favorite romantic comedies are Clueless and Legally Blonde. When it comes to “classic” romantic comedies, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starring Audrey Hepburn, is her absolute favorite. Has anyone ever worn a tiara and black dress better?! Sabrina has always been a huge reader. As a teen, some of her favorite authors were Beverly Cleary, Judy Blume, R.L. Stine and Lois Duncan. When she got older, she devoured the novels of Danielle Steel, Jackie Collins and Sidney Sheldon. Sabrina currently lives in New York City, with her cat, Miss Thing, and an apartment way too small for all her Pop! Funko figures – she can’t stop buying them! Sabrina loves to hear from readers. Her books appeal to fans of Rachel Hawthorne. She can be reached at: sjamesauthor@yahoo.com.

The story is mostly mindless which was what I was looking for but it wasn't what I wanted.

In the long run, the bet played no part in the story since Cooper didn't actually do anything that someone without money would have to do, and the one time Ethan tried to do something with the money it backfired. It was pointless. Neither girl was upset about the bet. It did not create tension because it wasn't used well.

I felt like I was misled. The book makes it sound like there is going to be a lot of comedy of errors miscommunications and mishaps. No. Everyone immediately went for the one and only that they were going to be with. There was no challenge, no finding each other, and no tension in the entire book.

The romance wasn't even 'hot'.

Really the only thing the author did was change the smart girl to the slutty girl for the week, what was the point of it?

Go over SAT vocabulary or party it up in Miami? Danielle Hollis is faced with a very tough decision for what to do for spring break.

However, with the invite from her older sister and two very persuasive friends, Danielle finds herself in an airport, with the thought that maybe her bags had the right idea not coming to Miami. Of course, the loss of her bags is another story, planned out by a few conspirators who wanted to prevent the SAT book from becoming a beach read.

Cooper St. John has finally figured out, after a million dates and girlfriends, that he wants a girl interested in his personality and not his wallet. Accompanied by his two best friends, Ethan and Damien, Cooper knows that this spring break is his chance to break away from the life he has been known for.

Mindy feels that this break is her perfect chance to accomplish her current goal - becoming popular. After a few girls in school accepted her invitation to go to Miami, Mindy thinks she has finally grasped the highest rung on the social ladder. But the one thing she should expect is that popular girls aren't so nice. Mindy better have some thick skin.

In true seasonal fashion, from Secret Santas to Cupid's arrow to now spring when love is in the air, Sabrina James once again takes a group of teens and creates a hilarious and romantic novel.

SPRING FLING includes a switch of identities, a bet that two people might regret, a date that ends in doing the dishes, and a Miss Spring Break competition. Also cat fights, backstabbing, mixed signals, and romance in every corner. This story is adorable, hilarious, and chalk-full of love. Smiles will form by the end of the novel, for both the characters and the reader.

Why did I read this. Oh right, Social distancing. I remember really liking these books when I was younger, and I can see why, the relationships were cute, the setting was bright and colorful, and every outfit of every character was described in painful detail. Reading this now, the relationships are not cute so much as sexist, the setting not so colorful as it is unrealistic, and the outfits are still described in painful detail, and also may I add, not cute? Several of the male characters are deeply disrespectful towards the women they interact with, and they all speak, dress, and act like they are 35, when they are in fact 16. This book seemed like a very elaborate day dream that a 14 year old girl who just watched the bachelor might have while staring out a window longingly. Which I’m assuming, is the point. I was also very angry at the female characters, who all seemed vapid and disrespectful. The writing was repetitive and boring, and no sentence should end with more than one exclamation point.

So much depends on the characters. In Spring Fling Sabrina James uses again her successful multiple-point-of-view recipe and introduces us to a new set of girl protagonists from North Ridge High who accidentally vacation door-to-door with five boys from South Ridge High. With the exception of already familiar gossip queen Mindy Yee, who revealed some surprisingly normal, human traits, all girls and boys annoyed me most of the time and didn't arouse my interest the rest of the time. I flipped speed-readingly through the last third of the text to bring it to an end. Disappointing - to me. You might like the gang and feel entirely differently.

I have JUST finished this book like, five minutes ago so here's what I have to say. First off, this book was extremely cute; all characters were introduced with their own problems and insecurities. This element made the book extremely realistic! My favorite example is of Mindy Yee's.

She felt like she wasn't good enough, so she gossiped and threw parties for the sake of attention. The only reason why she invited the Princess Posse was so that she could feel accepted by her school. The moral of her story was that the only thing she needs to do to make friends is to be herself. This is proved when Damain, Ava, Danielle, and Vivienne love her for being herself.

What was quite an eye-opener was when they showed the reason why someone would choose to gossip in the first place. I also loved how Ethan and Cooper had their own insecurities, too! Ethan believing that he's just "an average dude" compared to other guys and Cooper knowing that girls are only attracted to his wallet, not him.

However, this teens' book promoted sexist stereotypes and had little to no diversity. Right off the bat, the back of the book features only straight couples with unknown races, cultures, and/or religious beliefs. So, I can't say that everyone was white; except for the fact that getting tan at the beach was a must for most if not all characters.

For the sexist stereotypes presented in this book, here are a few to name:

● Rorey and Ethan fighting over Danielle showed how the only way a man can show his love is by being extremely possessive. Not only that it normalized extreme jealousy, there were also a few scenes where Danielle was just in the background whilst the two fought over her. The book also mentioned how she actually loved the attention, strengthening the stereotype of women being unaware attention-seekers.

● Damain is the one who defended Mindy against Wanda during the last party that took place in the book. Mindy, however, never defends Damain and is always the one being held by him. The author never proves how its OK to have it the other way around too. Men can show their weaknesses too and be held by their girlfriends as well. However, as far as realism goes in the story, no male characters experience this whatsoever. It's always the males who treat the females like princesses and the females who let themselves get kissed by the males. Consent is nonexistent in this world, apparently.

● During Danielle's Miss Spring Break contest, there were only men there; other than her best friends. Lesbians are nonexistent in this world too, then. Seriously, there were at least ten characters in this book; many of whom were shallow. James could've chosen one of them if she didn't want gayness to spread to the "important" characters. I guess the term "homosexuality" just didn't cross her mind.

Unfortunately, there's still more stereotypes presented in this book. I hope these gave you the idea of how shallow and undeveloped the characters in this book were. Sure, many readers would prefer a shallow, quick book like this one. However, that DOES NOT mean that you get to promote unrealistic images of others. That DOES NOT mean that you can go out there and promote teens to generalize people of the opposite gender. That takes me to the last point, where are the non-binary characters? We need more representation!

Note: I'm more than aware that this book was published in 2010. However, there are still some books and games that were way ahead of their time. If this book were like that, it would've made everyone' reading experience better. Sabrina James, next time you write a book, please add more representation!

Have you ever wanted to feel different and better, or be something you’re not for a while? It can be nerve wracking at first, but then you’ll begin to enjoy the new you. You aren’t who you usually are anymore and instead you are something new, someone who will impress and lure attention from the people whom you’ve never expected attention from.
In this book, Spring Fling by Sabrina James, the spotlight is on a high schooler, named Danielle, who undergoes a big change during the week of spring break. With support and a major makeover from her friends, she is able to transform from a simple, nerdy girl who attracts guys once in awhile to a stunning teenager who has a line of guys waiting to be hers. Little did she know, she loved the transformation so much. Danielle even took advantage of her new self and brought things to a whole new level. She felt glamorous and powerful and forgot about who she really was, but will she end up making the right decisions about her careless flirtatious signals towards the guys who might really be into her?
Personally, I loved this book and I really love the author as well. Spring Fling is a sequel to one of Sabrina’s other books, Be Mine and Secret Santa. All three books focus especially on a certain character who experiences a breakthrough in their daily lives. I especially loved this one because I read it during my spring break and it was very difficult for me to put down because the excitement I felt for Danielle was very breathtaking. For several moments, I felt like I was in her shoes and could experience everything she was going through. It was a nice feeling. Books like these are my favorite because they keep me reading until I finish the book. Something about this books makes me smile and wonder a lot and I guess that is why I can’t put the book down for a very long time.
Spring Fling is a romance book, yet it has to have you keep reading in order to find the answers to the floating questions drifting in your head. There will always be questions that you’ll ask yourself and they’ll make you upbeat and squirmy until you find the answers. This book is captivating and full of characters with a good background and they develop and do something unique. When you read this book, you will feel good and bad at times or it might let you feel joy or triumph. Of course, everyone has their own taste in the books they read but until you read you, you won’t know for sure. I would surely recommend this book to readers, whether they are young or old, who enjoy romance and allows texts like this one to make you feel emotional.

I JUST LOST A SHIT LOAD OF BRAIN CELLS FROM THAT FUCKING LITTLE FUCK BOOK

here are my issues
1. the book was SO INCREDIBLY STUPID AND ANNOYING
ugh ava. "Josh!! Josh!!!! JOSH! i love you.. but you dumped me.. but cooper! kiss me. kiss me... no dont"she was an annoying little scrawny emotional bitch - like honestly... get your act together and suck. it. up.
danielle was just annoying making every single thing she said so damn exciting!!!! --yeah no. i could care less about her or anyone in this book for that matter... "daring dani" give me a fucking break
and shes a whore! ETHAN!! RORY!!!
which brings me to rory... yeah... k... im dont with him. I DONT REMEMBER HIM BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY CHARACTERS IN THIS FUCKING BOOK! but rory seemed like a creeper... i see him as a 30 year old porn maker who tries to pick up young girls. (danielle and her friends are 17) it is just creepy and i dont really enjoy having that picture in my head. furthermore, rory seemed like a rapist if not a porn director.
next we have the "boys next door"
no.
boys do not have conversations like that with each other... "girls wanted to be treated like princesses and cooper does that to them"- NO. FUCK NO. UH UH. oooh and then there is that bet.. yeah. that worked out super well. "ive wanted to call that bet off since yesterday. i really like ava" - they've known each other for like a second. k whatever. but ethan will pretend to be rich and cooper wanted a girl to lilke him for HIM not his money... WHY WAS THAT LITTLE PIECE OF INFORMATION TAKEN AWAY? not that it was a good story line.. it sucked. but it just vanished. boom. went away like nothing happened. not that i care. i do not.
now for the real issue of the book.
MINDY. WHAT THE FUCKING FUCKING FUCK!!!??!?! WHAT. THE. FUCK. IS. HER. DEAL. and also, how the fuck did she end up getting a part in this story. like really. fuck. jessuuuss!! i just dont get it!! it makes no sense to me. "I NEED SPRINKLES ON MY ICE CREAM BITCH" (says wanda) yeah.. k sure. GET YOUR OWN BOOK TO STAR IN MINDY LEE AND CREW

NO ONE CARES ABOUT HER! I JUST DONT UNDERSTANT WHY SHE WAS IN THIS BOOK IT DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE WHATSOEVER
she should just jump off a cliff
wanda sure as hell wouldnt care.
following all of this "drama" --> THERE REALLY WASNT ANYTHING GOING ON.

k im done with this thing called a book.

Spring Fling by Sabrina James follows several high school students as they venture down to Miami for Spring Break. While Danielle thinks she’ll be spending her Spring Break studying for the SATs, her friends have a different idea. They give Danielle a makeover and help her ditch her shy-girl image. Meanwhile, Cooper and Ethan decide to switch places and place a bet where Cooper has to win a girl without his money and Ethan uses Cooper’s money. The story also follows Mindy Yee, the school’s resident gossip, who tries to find her place with the most popular girls in school.

Spring Break is the third book by Sabrina James that follows students from North Ridge High. It isn’t necessary to read the first two books (I have read Secret Santa, but haven’t read Be Mine), but it is fun to see cameos from the minor characters or see how they grow (Mindy is a minor character in Secret Santa). Like the other two books, Spring Fling is an easy and fun read, which would be perfect to read if you were laying by the pool during Spring Break. As a side note, there is also another book about students from North Ridge High that follows this called Party Girl.

Since Spring Fling is supposed to be a more fun and light-hearted read, most of the characters are like cardboard cutout characters from a romantic comedy. Even though many of the plots in this books echo plots from many teen movies, it suits the book’s purpose. Most of the characters in this book are likable, especially Mindy, who changes a lot from her character in Secret Santa.

Even though most of the characters in this story are likable, I found myself rooting more for characters other than the main character, Danielle. I liked her story line, but wasn’t as interesting to me as the others. I also felt like some of the other couples have more “cute” moments. However, this could be due to the small love triangle in Danielle’s story, and I’m usually not a fan of love triangles.

The only reason this is getting 2 stars is because I actually managed to finish it. And I liked the idea of a house of girls living next to a house of boys.

This books was so annoying! Everything was so dramatic! Just drama after drama after drama.

Everyone was described a certain way (e.g. Danielle: a bookish girl who doesn't care about her looks or anything like that) but none of them acted the way they'd been described (Danielle ends up becoming obsessed with her looks and gossip and juggles two guys).

The way this book was written was so over-the-top and forced. There was nothing natural about the way everyone interacted. They would point out the obvious all the time and react melodramatically over the slightest thing that a normal person wouldn't even care about. Although, I'm not sure if that's how American school kids act. My school was tiny and everyone was weird. In a good way. I wouldn't have changed it for the world.

The author also had the bad habit of writing the book as if the characters were in a play. At one point Ava, one of the girls, says she's going over to a concession stand to get some food and the next paragraph is 'Cooper watched as Ava walked over to the concession stand.' Alrighty then.

I would only recommend this book if you were looking for something where all of the characters are annoying and over-react to everything. Which sounds harsh but that's my opinion.

I read this awhile back and forgotten to add it to my goodreads.

2.2

It definitely was an easy read. The writing is simple and so is the flow. With that said, it's a book that we shouldn't expect for plot twists and a big bomb that's gonna be dropped. Spring Fling is just a story of a group of girls going to Miami for their spring break. I had my expectations very low and I wasn't surprised by the scenes that were to come.

I didn't feel any attachment to the characters. If you were to ask me who's story I was more interested in would be Howie and Lindsey. To me they would have taken the readers to a joyful ride. But Howie was a side character, his scenes were very little.

For really main characters would be Danielle, Ava and Mindy. As much as I enjoyed their stories, it came out as a flat kind of plot. Could say the story is typical. Danielle a studious girl who changed to the New Danielle just for her spring break. Ava a girl who just got heart broken. Mindy the girl who wants to be in the popular crowd. Among all three, I enjoyed Mindy's the most. The struggle she would just go through to be one of the popular peeps.

All in all, I just wished Lindsey had something herself since she is one of the three best friends too. Cooper was sweet, Ethan was nice, Damian was like the bad boy. So we all know what that means.

I enjoyed it as a simple easy read :)

Spring Fling
Sabrina James

I decided to read this book after randomly grabbing it off the library shelf. I found its cover and title to be fun and I got interested to find out what its about. The book Spring Fling by Sabrina James is about 7 teenagers in Miami for spring break, unknowingly they are all from the same town.Danielle, one of the main characters, goes from being the smart girl always studying to a girl who goes on dates and takes risks. She begins going out with one of the next door neighbor boys, Ethan, who goes to South Ridge High and Danielle goes to North Ridge High. They had been in the same town the same time and never knew. Other couples in the book include: Ava and Cooper(end up being friends)and Mindy and Damian. My favorite quote of this book is "Not only are we all from the same town, but our beach houses are right next to each other." I found it funny how they all ended up in the same place but never once knew each other. The author wrote the book in alternating points of view between the characters. I felt that as good as this book was, it was rather pointless. Its more of a book to read for fun because it doesn't have any real meaning, but is an easy read. I would recommend this book to does who like romance.

There are many main characters in this book, but one of them are Danielle. She is this shy 17 year-old. She does not know what to do during the break. Her sister and her friends persuade her to go on vacation with them. Then she meets this guy named Ethan and he kind of lies about his identity. As Danielle goes and meets more people. She turns from a shy person to a gregarious person.

This book Spring Fling is written by Sabrina James. Danielle's problem in this book is that she is kind of lying about her personality. Saying she is talkative, social, and all that, but she's not. She his actually a very shy person. She tries to change herself and at the end, she reaches her goal. This book is realistic fiction because it talks about all the things that can happen in real life like all her lying and problems.

When I first read this book, I thought this was going to be boring like any other boring old book. But I was wrong. This book was simply fantastic.

I would recommend this book to any one who is going through problems. It will teach you have to go through life problems and solve them.

I wasn't expecting to be wowed by this book but I thought it would at least be cute and entertaining. Unfortunately, it didn't even meet my low expectations. There were too many story lines going on at the same time, none of which I found engaging enough. The story was narrated from multiple POVs - five if I'm not mistaken - and the funny thing was, they all sounded the same. There was no character distinction AT ALL. The girl characters were shallow and the guy characters sounded like girls. To prove my point, these lines were said by this guy Damian who's supposed to be the cool, badass player to his friend Cooper who also has his share of girls:

"Of course not!” Damian exclaimed, cutting into his thoughts. “You look like an Abercrombie & Fitch model and you dress like one, too. Based on that alone, you’re a catch. But girls also like guys who can treat them like a princess, and you always treat your girlfriends like princesses.”

Heehee! Come on, guys don't talk like that to other guys! Well, maybe they do but only when they're smashed. I laughed out loud when I read that. Those lines were from chapter 2 and it was all downhill from there.

This book has literally been on my to read list forever, well technically since I was like thirteen, but I cannot find a copy or so. Finishing this book felt more of like an accomplishment to me. After what it seems like four years, I have finally crossed it off my list. Phew. Sorry for the semi-rant! It hurts me to say that this book let me down. I guess I expected a lot more than was possible. The plot was nice, and the idea of the story was great.. It's just that a lot escalated quickly and there were just little character development, well to me, anyway. I also felt like the writing was a little fanfiction-ish rather than novel-ish, No offence! Or maybe it was the fact that the dialogue and the story was all just too cheesy for me. All the cliche things this book has... it just didn’t work out for me. Anyways, the whole thing was very mediocre if not bad all around. It was entertaining enough for me to manage to finish the entire book.

Happy reading! (Yup, starting today that shall end every single book review I write.)
PS: I am looking forward to read the other works of Sabrina James to see if something will click this time.

A Chance to take a risk: A Book Review of Spring Fling

Point,2010,341pp.,$7.99
Sabrina James ISBN:0545136032

It's spring break, time for fun! Danielle is a shy 17 years old, who is changed into a pretty and outgoing teen, when she goes to Florida with her friends Ava and Lindsay. During their break, new romance sparks.

For Ava, she's trying to get over her ex, but when Cooper, a neighbor next doors, pops up in her life, will she be able to forget about her ex? For Mindy, who is one of the popular girls, she reconcile with her old classmate, Damian who has completely changed.

And lastly, Danielle. From a shy girl to a trendy 17 years old, she gets tongue-tied when two guys falls for her. Who will she pick?

I thought this book was pretty good. The story line is relateable to what happens in a teenager life. The problems that arise in this book reminds me of some problems I have in my own life. Like Danielle, I was trying to figure out who I really am. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially teens because this book can be related to people in many ways.

You caught me. I wanted a little romance after reading some actions books and this was perfect. My first thought was, how clean can a spring fling in Florida over Spring Break vacation really be? I was pleasantly surprised. (No one comes home pregnant.) Many of the girls and guys match up great. Each girl and guy has issues to work through, but it isn't overwhelming. Except for Mindy, I feel so sorry for her (or real girls like her.) I don't understand people who want to be so popular that they make themselves subservient to those who are. Why? I guess I didn’t think much about designer clothes or whether I was popular or not. I went to class, smiled, and was friendly to everyone. I’m still like that, minus the going to class thing.
I would rate this for 16 years and up because it will make the reader so excited about dating they won’t want to wait. Ha ha ha. It’s a clean read, probably okay for a 12 year-old if they can stand to read about girls and guys kissing.

2 stars because it was ok.
If I'm not mistaken, Ethan and Danielle were talking about movies then I see the names "Anne Hathaway and Zac Efron" and then "High School Musical." Am I missing something because I don't remember Anne Hathaway in HSM.

Thoughts~
1) Too much characters and too much exclamation points.
2) It was a cute read until Rory and Ethan fought. Ugh, so cliche.
3) Characters seem to have the same personalities and cliche backgrounds except for Ava who is the most dramatic among all of them.
4) All of the characters seem to be "perfect" (in their own ways)
5) Wanda Wong and Rick Cho? Seriously?
6) It was a nice read and then I began complaining to my friend, who read it before me, how weird the writing was.
7) The writing reminded me of my clique's writing called Survivors.
8) So many arcs in the book.
9) If one is bored, then read this.

"Spring Fling" is about a couple of groups of students from 2 different high schools in New York who go to Miami for spring break. Several of them decide to pretend to be different people for the break and a few of them are out to impress different people for different reasons. I love this author's style of intermingling the characters and how they all fit together. It did bother me, however, that all most of these students wanted was a fling and to be kissed. There was a lot of speculating--"should I kiss her?" or "Will he kiss me?" etc. BUT....IT WAS CLEAN! I don't recall any swearing and all they wanted was a kiss, nothing more. That is a big bonus in my book. Overall, a very light, "fluffy," fun book.

Danielle, shy and super-studious, is invited by her sister to come to Florida for Spring Break. Danielle reluctantly agrees and invites her two best friends, Lindsey and Ava, to come along. Once there they meet up with two other groups of kids who happen to be from the same town. With romantic twists and turns at every page along with teenage mean-girl drama, this story shows that the possibilities are endless when it comes to Spring Break! With alternating stories from five different people this book was a very fluffy and superficial read and a bit on the too-good-to-be-real side for me. There was a lot of eye-rolling going on while reading but it was a cute, clean, romantic read that I'm sure teenage girls would love.

Danielle is going for Spring Break with her two besties; Ava and Lindsey, to stay with her older sister and friends beach house. But they have left her suitcase, all her SAT study books, and are taking her for a new wardrobe, new hairstyle and makeover. They are changing her to Darling Dani for a week. They are next door to cute boys who also are on Spring Break, and are hoping to find some spring fling for a week. Between arguments, friends, and new guys with they find their romance before going home next week?
Very interesting, and kept me reading. A girly-girl as I am, it was very interesting!

This book was a cute and fast read!
I love Sabrina James as my cheesy inner romance author, when I get tired of my serious books. I love her concept of different stories in one, its really exciting and keeps you laughing and entertained the whole time! There are tons of little gleeful moments as well. Sabrina James relates to tons of girls in this book with daily problems that girls go through as well that boys go through! Definitely recommend for days on the porch to squeal and girl out over :)

This is such a plastic book. Everything seems to go perfectly from the beginning, no problems at all. We barely get to know the characters, and they seem to have perfect lives. Danielle, who is a big nerd, needs only a haircut and a dress to look gorgeous apparently, even pageant queen material. They all just seem so shallow and uninteresting. I only finished his book because I was bored and wanted to read a brainless chick lit book. Don't pick this up if you want something even slightly meaningful.

I found this book as very cheesy romance but somehow I learned to love it! If you are a girl that dreams about boys drooling over you then this is a perfect book for you. It is about three developing couples that want to see where spring break in Miami might hook them up. The North Ridge High girls and the South ridge high boys start hitting it up and some of them have relationships by the end of the book and some don't. You will have to read and see!

A cute rom com story. I should have read the ones that came before it first though, since I think I ruined the endings of some of those in this one. At least I know the girls talked about a few of the couples from the books before. Anyways, kinda predictable as is expected but a fast summer beach type read.
