I’m not sure what I was expecting from this book, but it was ok. It was interesting to learn that books of hours had so much basis in the veneration of the Virgin Mary.
Not a book I would ordinarily read but it is on the reading list for fabulous recent course I took at the Morgan Library "Introduction to Illustrated Medieval Manuscripts." In fact the author was the extremely impressive instructor for the course. So it was perfect background for that. Of course reading about these great treasures is a pleasure, second only to actually seeing them!
