This was such a cute book. It really is the perfect bedtime chapter book. Each chapter is a different story so you can either read one or two a night. They are charming little stories! Now, they may not be appropriate if your child does have a younger sibling who's feelings may be hurt, but, my child is an only child so there was no concern of that.

My daughter just turned 6 and she just loved this book. We read it at bedtime, a chapter or two at a time.

It was much better than I thought it would be. For whatever reason, the cover makes it look like the sort of book I don't usually like. I was very surprised by how cute it was without being sappy.

I grew up reading the "My Naughty Little Sister" series by Dorothy Edwards. In retrospect this could have been a conscious decision made my Mum and Dad, lets just say there was MORE than a passing resemblance between the two little girls in the stories and my sister and I (No prizes for guessing which one I was!). My Naughty Little Sister goes Fishing was my favourite of the series.

Beautifully illustrated with the trademark sketches of Shirley Hughes, "My Naughty Little Sister goes fishing" tells the story of a big sister who is having a lovely day out with her friends; fishing, paddling and having a picnic in the sunshine. Unfortunately, she has to take her naughty little sister with her, and she cries and she cries and she cries all day! She falls in the water, gets her sandwiches wet, and generally causes a lot of trouble!

What strikes me most about these books is that because they are written in the 1950's, the settings seem as if they are from a lost Britain (the children, only aged around 7, are allowed to go out fishing alone, they go to the fun-fair alone and get brought home by a policeman and spend lots of days exploring out in the woods, completely free from restrictions, even the nextdoor neighbour invites the little sister for cocoa every evening by banging on the wall- not even a CRB check in sight!) and this is my favourite aspect of the stories. Reading them to modern day children gives them a little piece of the fun and free feeling all children should experience.

The books are written in a conversational style, as if the author is there telling them the story. This makes them fantastic to read at whole class story times, there are even comprehension questions built into the text! such as "You wouldn't do that would you?" and "Do you think that was a good thing to do?"

There are 5 books in the series and children enjoy getting to know the cast of returning characters in each.

All in all, these books show that children today are still the same as they ever were in many ways, and Dorothy Edwards, perhaps from having her own children, has managed to capture the magic of childhood and created stories that are still highly readable and relevant today.

My Naughty Little Sister is another great favourite of mine from my childhood days. It is a lovely book for younger children as each chapter is a stand alone short story. I found when my boys were younger that they struggled to listen to chapter books as they forgot the beginning before we reached the end. This had the sad result that the book was often abandoned mid-story. The stories are told through the eyes of the older sister who is completely astonished by the "bad" behaviour of her younger sister. My naughty sister has a number of naughty adventures including biting Father Christmas' finger, throwing her older sister's much prized porcelain doll out of the window, catching small fish in a basket, getting stuck in a drain pipe and eating most of a birthday trifle at her friend, Harry's birthday party. My naughty little sister is a great favourite in the neighbourhood, especially with the family's elderly neighbours. She also spends a day at her older sister's school and delights the teacher and other children with her sweetness and good behaviour. The only person in the book who fails to be charmed by My Naughty Little Sister is her father who manages to lose her entirely one afternoon while he is babysitting her. The stories are simple but really very funny and both of my sons found this series of books very enjoyable. I would recommend this book for boys and girls aged 7 to 12.

This book is full of short stories about a mischievous little girl. It is ideal for children to read a chapter a night. Each short story has a unspoken moral teaching children a lesson but they all finish well. It is a sweet story, it is also very realistic and something children can relate to.

My mom, sister, and I loved this book so much when I was little. We would read a story before bedtime. My mom actually got my nickname from this book, which has still stuck today lol.

ceritanya tentang seorang anak, yang punya ade nakal banget. aku inget baca buku ini pas smp kelas 1. buku ini dapet minjem dari temen aku namanya asti diah. dia ngebet banget pengen beli buku ini soalnya dia juga punya ade perempuan yang nakal--ya mungkin dia fikir novel ini bisa mencerminkan prilaku adenya. tapi ternyata dia cuma komentar "ga rame" sambil masang muka cemberut. tapi pas aku pinjem dan baca, ceritanya rame kok. terkesan polos karna ngambil sudut pandang anak kecil (sang kaka)

I was initially put off by the wall of text this book presents to the reader, but i think it could have a special place in the heart and library of a big sibling.

This is more of a read aloud book, than a book your child could read on their own. Its perfect for days when little sis is away and big sibling needs some one on one parent time.
