Who wouldn't enjoy stories that are directed and managed for a cat? Unfortunately this wouldn't be the particular book that a cat would even raise an eyelid for nor a batting paw to knock it on the ground. Some of the poetry matter was older but it didn't catch the mind like normally great poetry does even though it was focused on cats and when you compared it to the fairytale retellings it just asks for the book to be shelved.

I was surprised when I came upon my first fairytale in the book that replaces the main characters to be focused on cats or to be cats. I cannot see "The Ugly Kitten" as being a feasible story although it is a lot better choice than doing "The Cat Emperor". What cat would allow himself to be made a mockery or even attempted of? Nor what cat would truly allow himself to be dressed in clothes let alone?

The other part of the book that agitated me was the author's constant interruption. She had to start off each section of virtue with snippets of cats she knew, which I could handle, but also to put in her opinion why it was considered a cat virtue. Many cat lovers and/or those who know about cats don't need a description for the virtue nor let alone for any of the many sayings, quotes and/or stories that were included.

Finally what cat wouldn't love to have a book of nice colored pictures so they could respect themselves more? Instead there were the occasional illustrations that were added to more or less take up space at the bottom of a page while most didn't involve the piece above.

This is definitely a book more directed toward the person who enjoys the presence of cats but whether they can include it as a favorite is going to be up to their discerning judgment.

If you love cats, you'll like this book which is all about how wonderful our feline friends are. I may keep it handy just to have cute things about cats to quote.
