While this book is relatively dated and may not provide information about the most recent advances in neuroscience, it exceeded my expectations.
The book is full of lots of thought-provoking aspects of understanding the mind, and doesn't shy away from jumping between fields like psychology, linguistics, biology, or whatever else is relevant to the topics being discussed.
There are no equivocal answers to how the mind works (or very few) so far, but seeing the journey taken in what humans used to think of the mind, and how many false starts there have been clarifies just how difficult an undertaking this really is. I'd say this book is more a tour on the history of neuroscience and its context than one that dives into the nitty gritty details of the brain itself.
Also, the illustrations are incredibly well chosen, and added a lot of valuable context (and made the book an absolute joy).
