I’m afraid these novels just aren’t that great. Boggs is getting better at his characterization of Hercules but it’s still not quite right. The Salmoneus stuff was the best part of this book. The vaudeville idea is definitely like something the TV series writers might have done.

The business with the Harpy needed to be fleshed out. There was too much of it to be insignificant but too little explanation for it to be rewarding.

I enjoyed the references to Aristophanes’ The Frogs, But here again, it needed to be fleshed out more. Boggs could have done something much more clever than just name-dropping it.
