Baking cookies every other Friday for their respective church districts gives Edna Esh and three of her closest friends a chance to give to the Plain community and strengthen their bond with each other. Now, with the blessings of Christmas in the air, they may even whip up a recipe for love . . . With the holidays around the corner, Edna is busier than ever juggling baking with her business serving meals to Englische tourists. Thank goodness for Mary Ropp’s help—until she breaks her leg. Mary’s daughter, Bethany, is available to fill in, but Edna isn’t so certain. She knows Bethany is so painfully shy that she’s never even courted, never mind interacting with Englische tourists! But the remedy may be closer than they think . . .
When Bethany gets into a scrape with her bicycle, a personable, talkative young man comes to her rescue, and even accompanies her home. And he’s none other than John Esh—Edna’s oldest son. When he stops by again the next day, Mary gets an idea. Soon, with the encouragement of the Cookie Club, Bethany is indeed helping Edna, and spending more time around the Esh household—and John. As Bethany slowly comes out of her shell, it seems she and John have much in common—maybe enough to inspire a winter wedding—and the club’s sweetest creation yet . . .

Sarah Price could write a phone book and I would read it. Listening to her Amish stories are always a joy. Edna's holiday season is jam packed - she makes and serves meals to tourists in her house and she is overbooked. She needs helps desperately. When she voices her concerns to her friends at her cookie club they come up with a plan to help her; what they don't realize is that their solution may have other unintended affects. Bethany is a shy and painfully quiet girl who doesn't even like to leave the house. When her mother forces her to go into town to get supplies after breaking her ankle, Bethany quite literally runs into a charming young man. The young man happens to be Edna's son and before you know it - the cookie club is up to their scheming ways. Can they match these two young couples? Great narration on the audiobook - that's for sure and certain.
I enjoyed this Amish fiction romance, but I would not really consider it a Christmas story. It takes place just before Christmas and there is a Christmas wedding, but that is about it. Bethany Ropp is an extremely shy and quiet young woman and it was nice to see her come out of her shell with John Esh. It also helped that she was an excellent baker, so was a great help to John's mother, Edna. John was also a quiet man, a hard worker, and a great son so when he became interested in Bethany, it was a slow, but straight forward path to get what he desired. This was a sweet story, reading about the Amish life and customs, and the relationship building between these two. There was a bit of humour involving John's lazy brothers, and one of the Cookie Club members, Myrna Bontrager. A sweet romance that was a quick read. I recommend this one to those who enjoy a sweet Amish Romance. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.
With the current pricing models making dairy farming less profitable, Edna supplements her family's income by serving authentic Amish meals to Englisch tourists. Her friend Mary has been helping her through tourist season, but after she suffers an injury which lays her up, Mary is not sure what she will do. She hopes she need not resort to taking up her friend Wilma's offer of her two troubled daughters. Edna's son John works at an auction house. Her other two boys help their father on the farm. Eventually it is decided Mary's daughter Bethany, a very shy young woman, will help in Mary's place. As John picks Bethany up, the two begin to find a lot to admire in each other. The book includes cookie recipes. I enjoyed seeing the romance blossom and appreciated the author's adherence to biblical standards of waiting until after marriage for sexual relations. (3.5 stars)
This is the sequel to the first book in the Cookie Club series. I absolutely loved Bethany and John’s sweet story of romance. I enjoy seeing Bethany come out of her shell. The 4 friends that bake cookies every week are wonderful. So funny. Such good ideas, bake cookies for the Amish Aid and make quilts for the homeless.I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I also appreciate the recipes at the end.
Edna helps out the family’s income by serving meals to the Englishers, and Mary has been helping her friend, since the task is too much for one person. When Mary breaks her leg, she enlists her daughter to take her place. But Bethany is extremely shy and sheltered, and the thought of interacting with strangers terrifies her. Edna’s son John steps in to help Bethany overcome her shyness, and both find themselves in a situation neither could have anticipated. This romantic story is quite nice, but extremely slow moving. Though perhaps intended to be that way to mimic the gentle way the relationship between the two protagonists develops, I found myself eager for the pace to pick up a bit. But it plods on slowly, like an old buggy horse, in no particular hurry. Still, it was a sweet read, and the character growth as Bethany realizes her strengths, is amazing.

This is Edna Esh and three of her closest friends' story. This is Bethany Ropp and John Esh's story. Edna sat at the kitchen table, her calendar book opened to the month of November. In the past, the calendar pages might have had a scribble or two here and there. But not this year. The rest of November and all of the December pages were anything but empty. Removing her reading glasses, she rubbed the bridge of her nose and sighed. Not only was every Friday and Saturday leading up to Christmas scheduled for serving the noon meal to tourists, but starting next week, so was every Wednesday and Thursday. Even Thanksgiving week was full, with Tuesday scheduled as a makeup for the holiday. She felt as if she might just succumb to tears. How on earth had she let this happen? When Bethany gets into a scrape with her bicycle, a personable, talkative young man comes to her rescue, and even accompanies her home. And he's none other than John Esh--Edna's oldest son. I highly recommend reading. The Amish Cookie Club Christmas:by Sarah Price is a wonderful well written 5 star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Sarah Price. I enjoyed listening to this book. It was nice to visit with the characters again and catch up on their lives. Edna has maybe bitten off more than she can chew this year. Her preparing lunch for the Englisher business has been a hit and she is fully booked until Christmas. How is she going to manage her home, her Thanksgiving and Christmas preparations and her cookie baking with her friends? Her friend Mary Ropp steps in and agrees to help with the meals for the Englishers. Edna is thrilled and all is going well until Mary breaks her leg. Who will repalce her? With some encouragement from her mother, Bethany steps in to help. She is a painfully shy young lady who has little experience of dealing with people outwith her family, how will she cope? But help come not just in the form of Edna but her son John. The more time Bethany spends with them the more she blossoms and could there be a romance and a winter wedding?
I really enjoyed this book. The very gentle romance between John and Bethany was a delight. I loved seeing her come out from her shell and bloom. I also enjoyed seeing the fact that by becoming more used to interacting with others her relationship with her parents also bloomed. I did find Wilma and Verna a bit of a pain, their comments at times were not nice or helpful.
I do have book 3 to listen to and am looking forward to it.
An Amish Cookie Club Christmas is the second inspiring story written by Sarah Price in her new series Amish Cookie Club. This series is set in the Shipshewanna area. The author has used well developed characters which makes them appear very realistic. The story line is remarkable and moves along at a great pace keeping the readers interest.
The Cookie Club continues to meet to make cookies and of course a little gossip too. Their sites are not set on matchmaking. That's not to say there isn't a secret courtship taking place. This is truly a wonderful love story between two young Amish adults that no one could forsee developing. But of course the club starts to pick up on little tidbits along the way. The author has done a spectacular job developing this story around Christmas.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response. I have rated this incredible story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to other readers.
Congratulations to Sarah Price on writing this truly inspirational story for her readers enjoyment. She has also continued her series with love, friendship, and faith.
I received this book from Net Falley in exchange for an honest review
A sweet glimpse into the Amish way of life. Amish language and words sprinkled throughout the book plus yummy cookie recipes at the end! Myrna Bontrager has a history of losing jobs. Her outspoken nature, honesty,’and her love to organize has cost her more than one job. Finally she is forced to work at her father’s hardware store....cleaning the back room until another job comes along. Her mother is actively involved with several other community members who bake cookies for morning worship
Widower Ezekiel Riehl is in need of help to care for his young children following the tragic loss of his wife to breast cancer.
Will Myrna be able to effective care for four young children, develop a relationship with the children and bring order and organization to the widower’s home and life ?
4.5 stars! This reminds me a little of Jennifer Beckstrand's new book Abraham (releases 11/26/19). In this one, Bethany is painfully shy and skittish around strangers. But John, who is also quiet and reserved, is very comfortable with who he is. He is willing to draw Bethany out, which was lovely to watch. This doesn't have the psychological/emotional wrestling of the Beckstrand book, yet both were enjoyable for different reasons. I loved that this didn't have a big Hallmark-movie sort of conflict or misunderstanding to wreck and risk the romance. Instead there's a nice slow build as the characters get to know each other and their families circle around them. This was warm and sweet and I loved it!
I just loved this book and didn't want it to end. The story pulls you in as if you are part of their cookie club. I enjoyed the relationship that Myrna had with Ezekiel and how it builds. All those sweet ladies , the town gossip, misunderstandings of the truth, left me guessing. Sarah Price did an excellent job of making you feel each character and bringing the book to life.
Although I have never read anything from this author before, I can see her becoming a favorite. I look forward to many more of her book.
Thank you to NetGalley for letting me enjoy this author.
I received acopy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
It’s not going to surprise anyone when I say these books are very formulaic and repetitive. But eh, who cares. When you have a craving for a cute love story, these are good.
Bethany is a shy shy girl and John keeps everything to himself. So this made for a slightly boring courtship. Not my favorite in the series but I liked the holiday addition and all of the sugar cookies. I won’t be rushing to read the final book, but I suspect I will eventually get to it. I’m not sure how many more books I will read from this author because they are starting to feel like the same book over and over again. But they aren’t bad. I recommend reading them. Just beware that there are issues.
I really enjoyed this book. Bethany and John were such an endearing couple... I liked how Bethany's character developed and gained more confidence throughout the book. Since I also have a bit of a social phobia, I could empathize with her character. I also enjoyed seeing the characters from the first Amish Cookie Club. The interactions between the Cookie Club members are sometimes sweet and sometimes amusing. I can't wait for the next installment in the series!
Another fantastic book from Sarah Price! This is the second in the Amish Cookie Club series, following four friends with a passion for baking and a hobby of matchmaking within their communities. In this installment, we follow the children of Edna and Mary, both of whom are quiet, thoughtful and reserved. I so enjoyed meeting these characters and seeing their relationship blossom!
This story is light hearted and enjoyable. I enjoyed the characters and the story overall. Due to the short chapters its the perfect storyline to be able to read it while waiting for an appointment or while waiting to pick the kids up from school. This is the first book I used Alexa to read it to me. I had cataract surgery last year and found it difficult to read for long periods of time. You will love Sarah Price's Amish books.
I enjoyed this story of patiently overcoming physical and social limitations, especially since there were no overwhelming traumas to deal with. With a few exceptions, most of the characters are kind, industrious, and thoughtful. An Amish Cookie Club Christmas is a lovely and calming book to read during these turbulent times. I recommend this book highly, especially for those who interested in learning more about the Amish culture.
Another great story by author Sarah Price book 2. It’s good to see John and Bethany getting their story and of course the ladies of the Amish Cookie club and the concerns they have for their kids. Any parent knows the thoughts and concerns where the kids are and if they’ll eventually for their happy ending. Of course in this case, the Amish Cookie Club is helping to mix the ingredients not just for cookies but for their kids?
It was the twist and turns of the story that kept me captivated! Beautiful story filled with humor and so much love. I loved how the characters complimented each other always having each other's back with love and so much patience.
The author did an amazing job and I am glad I read this book.
I received a copy of this book from Netgally and this is my honest opinion.
Like a Hallmark movie where you know who's going to end up with whom but you enjoy watching the journey, Sarah Price's "An Amish Cookie Club Christmas" is a very enjoyable romance. You know the characters are going to end up together, but the other characters along for the ride make this read wonderful!
Beautiful storyof love, family and friendships. Bethany is quiet, reserved and avoids people. She is volunteered to work in her mother's place after she broke her ankle. John, Edna's son is hardworking, helpful and kind runs into Bethany but really she runs into him at the grocery store. She didn't think about falling in love and he neither.
The ladies are back and so help me Wilma is still driving me NUTS😵! I loved Bethany from the start and I was really happy that she was able to come out of her shell with John. It will be a hard wait to see what the twins manage to do to Edna's business but I'm sure it will be a doozy.
An Amish Cookie Club Christmas Edna Esh had her hands full with her Cookie Club, baking for the church aid fund and her lunches.this book is full of love mystery faith long time friendships between 4 women some wanting to find husband's for their daughters one who had a daughter who is shy you want to find out what happens read this 5 star book Sarah Price has wrote another great book
The four friends are happily arguing while baking cookies. They have played matchmaker for their daughters and sons successfully. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series..... An Amish Cookie Club Courtship.....
A very enjoyable Amish romance with much fellowship taking place in the kitchen. I think I gained weight just reading about the huge meals, pies, and cookies! There are even recipes included at the end!
Cute story between Bethany Ropp and Jonathan Esh, they're super sweet and the relationship is wonderful. Lots of humor to be had and gives a sweet snippet of Amish (fictionalized) life. I was expecting a bit more around Christmas, but that's because I love Christmas.
Bethany, a very shy Amish young lady, begins working for Edna who invites English women into her home for dinners. Edna’s older son has an eye for Bethany. Soon a courtship ensues. This is a sweet Amish romance.
As long as you want to read a warm, sweet, sappy holiday book set in Amish country you will be all set. No drama and little character development. It's like an unadorned sugar cookie - not very filling and very sweet 😊
Cute book. Started a bit slow, but I think that’s because there is a back story from an earlier book in the series that needed reintroducing in order for the book to make sense. Recipes at the end of the book are a nice bonus and look delicious!
