An amateur sleuth with a new gift basket store, a customer found dead, and a cute police chief who helps solve the murder mystery.
It was an innocent gesture to bring a little spice back to their marriage when Jessica Danver presented a handcrafted gift basket of goodies for herself and her husband, Reginald, to enjoy for date night. They have been struggling with money and regular blow-ups – except this time, one snick of a match to light a candle causes Reginald to go up in flames.
Rumors circulate in the small community of Rosemary Harbor. Was it an accident, or was there more to it? Chief Preston is sent out to investigate: the first step, tracing where the gift basket was purchased.
Sometimes the best cure for a broken heart is a fresh start.

A short cozy. When one of her gift baskets is used in the commission of a murder, the owner of the shop investigates, with the help of her daughter, and the town gossip. The police chief is courting her, but like most of the cops in this sort of book is uncomfortable with her investigating.
The short length makes shallow character development necessary, but there's enough to make one want to get to know these people better.
This was a wonderful mystery story! A florist and a police officer working together to solve a crime, add a parrot that can repeat what he heard in that persons voice, and bingo, you've solved the crime! Terrie Stamey
After the death of her husband and a move to another state, Hillary wanted a fresh start. But a murder and a meeting with the new police detective gave her a new adventure.
Hilary Sheridan, a widow seeking a fresh start, has just opened a gift basket shop in the small community of Rosemary Harbor. When one of her customers ends up dead, Hilary helps the hot bachelor police chief, Preston, try to solve the mystery. And we get it; HILARY IS JUST NOT READY TO DATE SOMEONE NEW RIGHT NOW. A theme that is emphasized at least four times or more. Which wouldn't be as annoyingly redundant if the story weren't such a short read! The AI voice reading was slightly natural, but not enough to go unnoticed.
ASIDEEEE from that- I enjoyed this. I liked the use of an explosive in the gift basket as the murder device. It's creative and quirky, like Hilary. I liked that she was her own person from beginning to end. Despite her love for her daughter or her romantic interest in Chief Preston, she stood true to her desire to solve this case. How could she be told to "mind her business" when the crime literally started from HER BUSINESS?! She stands her ground, quietly. She plays her cards well, considering this is book one. I like that she is from Florida, like me. I have a thing for any fictional Floridians or crime novels set here. But all the characters in Rosemary Harbor, from the nosy neighbors to the shopkeepers, played their part well. Read in one sitting. Highly recommend to fans of the cozy genre.
Hillary Sheridan has uprooted her life after the death of her husband 2 years ago from cancer and has decided to start a new business in a new town. She and her grown daughter Annabelle opened up and run a gift basket store in the small community of Rosemary Harbor. Their new line of handcrafted date night gift baskets appears to be selling very well until a customer is killed. It seems when he lit the candle in the basket, it exploded killing him instantly.
Now Hillary and Annabelle are on the case to determine who wanted Reginald dead. Was it his wife, the purchaser of the gift basket? Was it Reginald’s mistress, the maker of the specialty candles? Was it the maid who he poorly invested money for? And was Reginald the intended victim?
This is a new cozy mystery in the Rosemary Harbor Mystery series. It has the right mix of mystery, humor, quirky characters, and even a touch of romance. There is even an African Gray named Spot for a pet, who steals the show with his passion for sass-talking and mimicking. I found that it is the perfect two hour read for when you have a few hours for reading enjoyment.

Overview: Hillary Sheridan has moved to Rosemary Harbor from Miami shortly after the death of her husband. Her daughter, Annabelle, and the family pet parrot, Spot, are helping to keep "Something Special" running. How did things go so wrong? Jessica Danvers placed an order for a date night gift box. Well, Reginald Danvers was tasked with setting it up. Why did the candle explode? And was it a targeted attack? Let's find out.
Dislikes: Reginald is a slimy individual. It does appear that infidelity shows up in more than one area in your life.
Now, Hillary went too far when she delivered the gift baskets to the lawyer's office. There are only a few professions that guarantees that the meeting is privileged information. That nothing outside of a warrant will make it easy for this information to leak unless you talk first. Hillary wanting to break into the filing cabinet is totally wrong.
Likes: Spot was a trip. He had a quote for every visit. And he tried to play with the sheriff.
Annabelle moved with her mother for the right reasons.
Hillary had a good talk with Jessica.
Conclusion: This story was okay. If you don't mind weaselly characters for your protagonist, you might want to give this little cozy mystery a shot. Enjoy the read.
Hilary Sheridan left everything behind to start her life over again with her daughter, Annabelle, in the small town of Rosemary Harbor Massachusetts. There they open up a nice gift basket store called Something Special. Rose Humbert also works there and is in her late sixties and is the shop assistant. She owns most of the buildings along Market Road, including the one Something Special rents out. When word gets out that Reggie (Reginald) Danvers was murdered a few days ago, the Police Chief Preston Davis comes into the shop to ask about their baskets. Rose thinks Hilary and Preston would make a great couple, Annabelle is dead set against her mother dating. But Preston tells them that something in the basket they made for the Danvers exploded and that's what killed Reggie. Hillary isn't going to let that go, that one of their gift baskets was used to kill someone! Against Preston's wishes she keeps snooping around. Will Hilary find out who the killer is and why? Can Preston and Hilary become a couple? You will have to read the book to see how things turn out.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Although I loved the Alaskan series, this one feels a bit forced and lackluster. The plot itself is based on a good idea but it just didn't work. Maybe it was the characters who seemed a bit two dimensional that caused it to fall flat. Although I must admit that the parrot was brilliant. She and her daughter have moved to this small but friendly community to escape the memories of her deceased husband. The cancer had been vicious in the way it had not only cost him his life but also his joy in living, her speciality shop was doing well although one recent customer had recently been murdered. However when she goes on an unexpected date (her employee had more or less forced it on the pair whilst her daughter looked on in horror) she finds out that something in the gift basket that had exploded and caused the death. Can she find out what it was? She really didn't want to sell anything harmful. Can she appease her daughter? Will the information she finds be enough for the police chief?
The Rosemary Harbor Mystery series is another great cozy series from Wendy Meadows! Hillary Sheridan is a relatively new widow who decides to leave Miami and start a new life in Rosemary Harbor, a small coastal town in MA. She and her adult daughter Annabelle open a gift basket store, Something Special, that is well received by locals and tourists alike. Hillary introduces a new line of baskets catering to romance that is an immediate hit. Unfortunately, a customer is killed when a candle from a date night basket explodes. Hillary believes she has to do some investigating of her own since her reputation and her business are on the line. The mystery is well plotted and well paced. There is a hint of a potential romance between Hillary and the police chief that warmed my heart. I enjoyed all the characters we've met so far, especially Spot the African gray parrot, and look forward to getting to know them better in future stories.
This was a good start to a new series. There wasn't much action to the story. The mystery was not a quick I know who the killer is, which I like. Hillary and her daughter Annabelle are newcomers to town. When the police come in and start asking questions about their baskets, what's in then and where do they get the product that goes in them. Now Hillary is curious and wants to find the killer so her store doesn't have a bad rep. So she tries to get information from the police chief Preston Davis. What he wants from her in not a partner he wants to date her. So Hillary decides she would look into the murder herself but not tell him until she has information on who did it. I really liked the book. I do wish there was more action, intrigue and maybe funny. That maybe coming in books to come. I enjoyed the new series by Wendy Meadows. Hilary Sheridan and her daughter Annabelle lived in Miami. After her husband Matthew died Hilary wanted a change of scenery and a change in her life. Hilary and Annabelle moved to Rosemary Harbor, MA and opened Something Special, a gift basket shop. When the police chief, Preston Davis, entered the shop and began asking questions about the baskets and their options, Hilary felt he wanted something more than a basket. One of their customers, Reginald Danvers, had recently died from an explosive candle that was in one of their baskets that had been delivered to him. Hilary, along with Annabelle and her shop assistant, Rose Humbert, decide to help find out what happened. I like the characters in this series and love the African Grey parrot, Spot. Spot adds spice to the story. A must read if you enjoy cozy mysteries.
I just loved the characters in this, Hilary who is trying to build a new life after her husbands past a few years ago, Annabelle her daughter who wants what best for her mum but that doesn't include looking for love, Rose the sweet old gossiper/love matcher and worker for Hilary and Preston the Police Chief who would like to get to know Hilary more! oh and heaven forbid we forget Spot the parrot who has a way with words. This has a great flow, plenty of people to finger for the murder and a nice sprinkle of new love to keep you turning the page and wanting to see not only who the murder is but what will happen between Hilary and Preston!!

This is a great new series. Hilary moves to Rosemary Harbor from Miami. She opens a gift shop in this small tourist town. Her daughter Annabelle also moves to be with her mom. The murder of a local resident from what might be an item from a gift basket that Hilary’s store provided has the police chief come visiting Hilary and her team at the shop. Hilary likes Preston, the Police Chief, but her daughter struggles over this as she feels her mom shouldn’t date even though her Dad had died from cancer a number of years ago.
I am enjoying this new series and cannot wait to read the next installment.
I love this new series. I like the fact that the main characters run a gift basket business. I absolutely love Spot the parrot. He says some of the funniest things to customers. As Hillary dips her toe back in the dating pool, thanks to Rose, her daughter Annabella is a bit put out by it. While new in town with a new business just getting off the ground, a local townie is found murdered and it seems that the gift basket from Hillary's shop may have been the murder weapon so she has a vested interest in finding the killer and getting justice and clearing her name.

Still some grieving significant other, move to another state, start a new business and maybe start dating or living life again. Have your business possibly be part of a murder. Now you are concerned for your business and have to know if your product is at fault. Well you know what happens next.
Really cute cozy mystery. First in a new series; my first with this author. Since this is a novella, it is a really short easy read. I read it in a few hours. Interested in seeing where the series goes.
This my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC copy.
This is a short, easy to read cosy mystery. When Hilary opens her specialist shop with her daughter she doesn't expect selling a gift basket will cause her to become a murder suspect. This book has promise but for me there is too much packed into a short book which means it becomes confusing. Wendy Meadows is a fabulous author but I was a little disappointed with this book. It is a good short read if you want to pass some time and the parrot definitely makes it worth reading. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A wonderful story. Very original story line. Totally love Spot, he is so much fun and hilarious. Who would not love to have a talking parrot. Well sometimes he is too talkative, but that is part of the fun. The characters are all well designed and feel very realistic. Really want to read the next book in the series to see how Hilary and Preston and the entire crew grow. Wendy Meadows is a very talented writer and I enjoy her books.
Wendy Meadows has done it again this is a great cozy! I love the parrot! Spot will lead you on an excellent adventure with a touch of humor so unique and different twist. You will have such fun reading this. I highly recommend. Want to know what is funny this is the second book I have read today with a parrot one is a detective and one thinks he is a cat. Parrots you got to love them. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This was a fun read. Its a new series based around a gift basket shop, which is a cool idea. A candle in one of the gift baskets explodes, killing a man. Hillary, the owner, feels responsible, so she begins her own investigation even though the sheriff tells her to back off. Spot, a hilarious parrot who belonged to her late husband, lives in the shop and interjects random comments at inopportune times.

Hilary is a middle-aged widow, owner of a gift basket shop. When a man is killed who was using her gift basket she starts to investigate, helping the local Chief of Police, who has a romantic interest in her. A fairly typical short cozy mystery, following the typical pattern. Still, entertaining and a pleasure to read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sweet New Mystery/Romance Series! A wonderfully entertaining start to this series. Fun, heartwarming characters, especially Spot the African Grey parrot. I loved the ‘Something Special’ Gift Shop in Rosemary Harbor and unique storyline of mystery, murder, hometown gossip and budding romance. I look forward to reading more from Wendy Meadows. Enjoy!
I received an arc copy and am happy to leave my honest review.
I am a new reader to this author, and really enjoyed the mystery. Hillary and her 24 year old daughter move to Rosemary Harbour after the death of Hillary's husband, she opens up a store and her first customers to buy a gift basket, the husband ends up dead and she becomes the main suspect, can she solve the murder and keep her store open..........

This is a fun, light, easy to read cozy mystery that is filled with interesting characters and enough twists and turns to keep one guessing until the end. The storyline revolves around Hillary, a widow, who has a talent for putting clues together. in a small town the gossip mill is alive and very active giving an over abundance of clues, that hard to sort through. It is a quick and creative read. If you are looking for a cozy fun mystery you can read in an evening, then give this book a chance.
This is a short, good story. There is a murder which involves one of the gift baskets Hillary sells, and more than one suspect. Preston, who is the police chief, asks Hillary out and she accepts. Her daughter is upset about that because she thinks it is disrespecting her father who had died several years ago. Hillary decides to start looking into the murder, despite Preston asking her not to do so. I liked how they found out who the murderer was. The parrot was too talkative, but amusing also.
Another great story by Wendy Meadows!!! I have enjoyed everything I have read by Wendy. I like the premise of this new series. Gift baskets are a fun storyline. I love Spot the bird. He is hysterical. I like Preston the police chief a lot. Hope the next book is ready soon 😊👍
This time I especially liked how Wendy Meadows differentiated the characters. Not one of them is like the others and some of them weren't what they seemed. That's why I mostly enjoyed reading that novel. I highly recommend this book. I received a copy via Booksprout and voluntarily wrote this honest review.
As true to form, Ms. Meadows has started off another series with a bang. This witty, fun group of women were able to put their skills together to solve a murder. Mix in a small hint of romance and you have Wine's Up.
