Since my divorce five years ago, these are the two labels I've identified with. Now, I'm ready for more. Ready to give dating a shot, even with an eight-year-old daughter and twenty-four hour shifts needing my attention.
When Sydney has a snow-day and we have an epic malfunction in the kitchen, we decide to head to the breakfast joint we've frequented for years.
Except today something is different.
Our normal waitress, Emma, isn't all baggy clothes and ducking her head to keep me from seeing her face. Today? Today I feel like I see her for the first time, and damned if our gazes don't ignite a heat I've only felt while on the job.
Inflame is one of those super easy to read and get captivated by stories that I love. Ash and Emma started off strong in this book and they never lost that spark between them. I really enjoyed that there wasn't a ton of drama thrown in, which I was a little worried about with the baby mama still being in the picture. But instead of any of that angst, this story was able to keep me intrigued with the romance alone.
I thought it was a really fun read and I think everyone that picks this book up will enjoy how sweet Ash and Emma are. Especially with the added swoon-factor of Ash being a pretty kickass single dad. Overall, definitely a book I think anyone would enjoy.
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
Wow.. this author really went there. Second author that I thought would never write a heroine who was so pathetic. What’s happening? This is just getting out of hand now.
A pathetic heroine who has pined after the hero even when he was married to OW and having a kid with said woman. A 26 year old woman that doesn’t know what she wants to be Iife. Hero has seen her as the mousy girl from high school.
A hero who didn’t even noticed the heroine in high school and he doesn’t noticed her until she’s wearing tight clothes. The typical ex who didn’t want to be a mother and was a cheater in their marriage. The only thing that changed was that the ex came back wanting to be in her daughter’s life and she did not caused drama in their relationship.
Acquaintances to friends to lovers worked well in this sweet, almost gentle romance. Ash was a single dad who focussed on his job, and the daughter he loved. Sydney was older so he felt okay with throwing his hat into the dating game again. Especially when he saw Emma in a new light…
The author said this would be drama-free and I didn’t think it was possible. Ash’s baggage with everything surrounding his ex-wife, dating as a single parent and dating (period) I thought would create uber-angst and drama but no. Instead, Emma and Ash were down-to-earth people and even the issues with the ex-wife played out in a realistic and very believable way. I liked the slow roll that happened between these two and Sydney provided a spark that livened it all up!
Oh and did I mention firefighters?? ~Diane, 4 stars
Inflame begins the new Midnight Cove series from Laramie Briscoe and this single dad romance was sweet, swoony, and sexy. I appreciate authors who write single parent romances because honestly in this day and age with the divorce rate so high, it isn’t uncommon for people over the age of 28 to have some kind of past relationship baggage or a child in their lives when they begin dating again. I actually love the realistic look at dating and new relationships of single parents and Ms. Briscoe does it right by showing the insecurities, the worry, and that even when a parent knows they need more in their life their child will always come first.
Ash was a former high school football star and is currently a Midnight Cove firefighter and is raising his six year old daughter, Sidney (Syd), who considering everything is fairly well adjusted and very precocious. It was easy to see from the beginning that Syd is Ash’s life and while he feels guilty for not being able to hold his marriage together, he is present in every way he can be in Syd’s life even making her feel secure when her mother neglects seeing her like she has for the last 6 months. When a morning kitchen disaster has them seeking breakfast at the local diner on a relatively slow day, Ash finds himself noticing and intrigued by Emma a woman he went to high school with who was always shy and bookish.
Emma is caught in a cycle of indecision in her life and at 26 she knows that it is time to make some big decisions. It’s not that she doesn’t like working at the local diner where she makes decent money or the days she works at the library, but neither is her passion. She is also ready to make a change in her social life and a snow storm brings in the man she has wanted since high school along with his daughter and Em is surprised to find that not only does Ash seem to be flirting with her, she is pretty good at flirting right back.
I actually loved that they knew OF each other, but didn’t really know one another, but immediately felt comfortable enough to not hold back when talking with each other. I’m sure it was mortifying for Emma when Ash found out she had a high school crush on him, but he took it in stride. Despite their attraction I appreciated that they spent some time getting to know one another and that Emma knew it was important to spend time with both Ash and Syd as her dad’s friend and not as a romantic partner. Syd was so intuitive and as this is the age of child I spend a lot of time with, I found her well written and convincing for that age.
This was a slow burn romance which I appreciate given that Ash is a single dad and his daughter comes first, but I also think it was more than that. They enjoyed each other’s company outside of the bedroom, they were both feeling like what they had was important, and they were willing not to rush things just for the sake of sex. I appreciated that we saw growth in the characters even in Ash’s ex and that despite this being the first book in a series with quite a bit going on that the focus of the book was on the developing relationship between Ash and Emma.
Well written characters and a believable plot made Inflame a delight to read.
A sweet and sexy story about a single dad and his 6 year old daughter. Emma is a waitress at the local diner. There is a snow day for 6 year old Sydney. So Ashton takes his daughter out to breakfast. There Ashton and Sydney see Emma at the diner. Emma has always had a thing for ashton In high school he was the jock she was the nerd. Ash decides that today is the day to start something between the two of them. Very sweet .
This book was like a big bag of warm fuzzies. It was a completely drama and angst free single parent romance read and I loved it. I kept waiting for the drama to hit or for something to go wrong and it just didn't happen.
I read it in one sitting with a big smile on my face just loving every word. I mean seriously a sexy, single dad firefighter. Yeah that's basically all it took to have me diving right in.
Ash and Emma were great characters and I adored Sydney. The relationship was a bit of a slow burn but the chemistry between them was pretty hot and I liked that Sydney was such a genuine part of the story and not an add on to give some depth to the story line.
I am really looking forward to following this series and seeing who’s next in the Midnight Cove series.
Inflame was a fantastic introduction to Briscoe’s new Midnight Cove Series. This novella was a quick and engaging read.
As is with all novellas, I wished I had more time with these characters. Things moved quickly but I felt that I was able to get a good understanding of who these characters were. Despite the length, we got to see some growth but I would have loved to have seen them develop even more.
These two were on fire! Their chemistry was scorching. I really enjoyed this aspect. The relationship between them, as well as the family dynamic with Sydney, definitely took center stage. Emma’s business, Ashford’s job, and some minimal outside drama, helped to round out the story.
I very much enjoyed this novella and look forward to the rest of the series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

I love Laramie Briscoe's books. They are always amazing a draw me in and keep me reading as fast as I can. I love her characters and Ash and Emma are no exception. Who doesn't love a hottie fireman. Ash and Emma have known each other since high school. Or I should say they new of each other in high school. Emma had a hugh crush on Ash but he would never go for her. However though the years Ash became a now single father to his daughter Sydney with an ex wife and Emma still hasn't made her move. However when he walks in to the place she works she decides its time and makes her move, and so does Ash. These two had a connection and I loved every second I got to spend with them. This is a really sweet romance that packs the heat. Do not miss it.
4.5 stars. Laramie Briscoe has quickly become one of my must reads when I want a romance that’s not filled with drama and Inflame was exactly what I was hoping it would be. This book gets this new series off to a great start.
Single dad Ash has spent the last six years putting his life on hold so he could concentrate on his daughter and his job as a fire fighter. Waitress Emma has had a crush on Ash since high school but they ran in different circles and so her crush went unrequited. Until a storm hits town and Ash finds himself at the diner, before he knows what he’s doing he’s already left his number for Emma.
This book was exactly what I was hoping for. The characters are really easy to like. The slow burn, the chemistry, the relationships between all the characters, not just the two main ones, they’re all done perfectly. I’m a huge fan of Laramie Briscoe and like with all her books I found this one really hard to put down. It’s the perfect book if you’re looking for an easy read romance and will have you hooked without you knowing it.
An amazing start to what is sure to be a fantastic new series. Inflame is a fun, quick read that kept me glued to my Kindle. I was swooning hard for Ash from the start. I mean who couldn't love a hot firefighter who is also a sweet single dad. I fell in love with Ash immediately. His love and devotion to his little girl is as swoony as it gets. He works hard to make sure his daughter is taken care of and if that doesn't have you melting into a puddle I don't know what will. Sydney is the cutest and my heart melted for this sweet adorable girl. Emma has crushed on Ash since high school. She was always too shy to do anything about it, and Ash always had a girlfriend. When a snow day brings Ash and Emma together they both finally admit how they feel. I loved Emma for making sure that Sydney was included in their plans. If you are looking for a sweet, quick read that is light on the angst but heavy on the swoon, then this is the one for you! I highly recommend you pick this one up!
OMG this is the beginning of a kick arse series by Laramie. I loved every moment of this story and it was slow and burning and when they got together they were AMAZING!
Ash is a single dad and a fire fighter. He lives his life for his daughter and his job but he is getting lonely and wants to share his life with someone. He knows that someone he wants to spend his time with but whenever he flirts with her she doesn't flirt back.
Then one snowy day changes everything because Ash and his daughter have a disaster in the kitchen and end up at the diner where he flirts with Emma the waitress and she actually flirts back. He is so shocked it takes him a few minutes to get his bearings but once he does he asks Emma on a date and she agrees to go out with him and he is totally blown away by this.
As one date turns into many they will have to decide if they are going to go the long haul or they are just going to remain friends.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, and heartbreak.
This is Emma and Ash’s story. Ash’s life revolves around his daughter and his job. But Emma makes him feel again after his divorce. When a snow day hits and she seems to flirt with him he takes a chance and makes a move. There is chemistry but can she put herself out there with him? They both have a lot going on in their lives but if they want to try and be together, they need to learn to comprise. Can they do that? Can she teach him forgiveness, and can he teach her love? Can they learn from each other so they can have a future together?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
This book was so easy to read and get caught up in. In fact, it was over before I was ready to let these characters go. The story itself is a slow burn but the chemistry and connection between Ash and Emma is instantaneous. Ash is everything sweet and noble you could possibly want in the single dad firefighter. Emma has a giant heart and generous spirit that are exactly what Ash and his little girl, Syd, need. Sydney is an old soul in the body of a precocious child. She’s quite possibly my favorite part of the book. There are some big personalities in the cast of characters that surround them. I can’t wait to read more about Midnight Cove. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
Ash is the hot firefighter single dad to Emma that just about every single mom wants. Ash had decided though long ago that's not what he wanted for his daughter. He's an awesome dad and everyone thinks that and will tell him that if he would listen.
Emma had a crush on Ash in school and not much has changed. She still thinks he's hot and the way that he is with Emma just melts her heart. She's in love with little Emma who is an old soul. I love little Emma!!
When Ash takes a chance and Emma takes a chance too they're super cute together. I did think that they fell in love pretty (ok, REALLY) quick. I loved the camaraderie and family feeling that the firefighters have and can't wait to see their stories.
Inflame (Midnight Cove, Book 1) is a quick little read that follows Ash, single dad/ firefighter, as he navigates finding love and new relationships while raising a daughter. Emma is also navigating new territory as she contemplates building a new business. The spark between these 2 is instant and the chemistry sticks around for the whole book. Overall, nice, easy read with a little smolder and a delightful storyline.
Book 1 in a new series. He's a single Dad to a daughter and is a hot firefighter. Em is the shy girl from high school part time waitress\part time library worker and Instagram cupcakes baker and is going to change his life. In this small town romance with fun characters and hot story.
I've always been a fan of this author and books about single parents so when I heard about this series, I was so excited. I was honestly extremely disappointed with the book. The premise was so promising.
This book is about Ash, a single dad to a little girl, Sydney (Syd) and a firefighter finding love with Emma, a woman he knew in high school. They didn't run in the same social circles and he was with the mother of his child, Courtney so he and Emma never got together. Years later, he's divorced and trying to move on so he takes a chance with Emma, hoping she'll return his feelings.
I had a few problems with this book:
1) It was so short that I felt there wasn't enough quality time or build of a relationship between Ash and Emma, or even Emma and Sydney. 2) This was truly what ruined this book for me. Courtney cheated on Ash in their marriage with a man named Scott (who was Ash's best friend in high school AND the best man at Courtney and Ash's wedding!) and now she and Scott are engaged and planning on having a family so THAT'S why she wants back in her daughter's life. She gets to have a happy ending with the man she cheated with??? WTF. 3) There wasn't really any time with Ash, Emma, & Syd as a family dynamic. There was ONE quick dinner scene and that was it. The author skips ahead and shows/says that Syd loves Emma and they have a great relationship. Great, but it would have been nice to actually see some of it as it happened with touching moments, etc 4) The scene where Ash runs to Emma after he has an emotionally hard day on the job was so... sudden. And that leads to them having sex for the first time which during that he says "I love you" to her for the first time and she reciprocates. It was all just so sudden. There was no buildup, hardly any moments, nothing. You don't even get to see them have a true relationship with relationship moments because the author skips ahead. 5) After they have sex, it cuts to some time later where Ash says how Emma has been coming over and not spending the night out of respect for Syd but spending time with him and Syd... that's all nice but it would have been even nicer to actually see those moments. 6) There was no true epilogue. Some months later, it shows Emma and Ash getting engaged. It shows nothing of their future together, whether they have kids together, their marriage, NOTHING.
Hopefully, the next book in the series has some substance to it.

Laramie Briscoe is debuting yet another addictive series (LOVE my task force guys!!) with this brand spanking new Midnight Cove series and I'm crazy excited to see where we go after this one... after that brilliant epilogue.
Quick. Sexy. Sweet. Fun. Light. Easy. Standalone. Inflame was the PERFECT single-dad romance that had my heart beating just a little bit faster in so many moments and had me racing through the pages as fast as I could right from the very freaking start.
Since the doom of his divorce, Ash's life has been focused on work and his daughter, not much more. He's poured everything he has into both of those things and he'd do it again for his daughter but Ash is longing for more with someone else.... and on one particular snowy morning, it'll be her that not only catches his eye but reciprocates the flirtation he's thrown her way before.
He didn't this she was interested. She's crushed on him since high school. And this particular day, everything is going to change for both of them. And when one date turns into two, three, and so on.... they will both have to decide if they are willing to take the risk and fall together.
Seriously alllllll the feelings for this little trio. They gave everything and it was so so good! And y'all, I very much enjoyed watching them fall and watching them finally (hello build up!) come together in alllll the ways.
Laramie has seriously killed the contemporary romance genre in allllllll the good ways and found her niche... groove lately and it totally shows, especially in a book like Inflame. While she's started focusing less on the pointless drama and more on the good stuff with the last few series, yeah she has hooked me hard.... dude as long as she keeps writing like this I'll always be the first in line.
I thought Inflame was a good single dad story it would be the first book that I've read by the author and I plan to read more by her in the future added bonus if we get to see characters from this one . It did feel a bit rushed at times to were certain things happened to fast for me . I was a little iffy about the characters but towards the end I started to like them I just wish there was a more to the story . copy provided for honest review **************************************** hero=8 heroine= 8 secondary characters= 8 Chemistry=8 steam= 6 romance=5 humor=3 darkness level= 2 action=2 mystery=2 enjoyment=8 angst=3 story line=9 Story ending=9 character development=10 pacing= 10 cover=10 Blurb = 10 Stars =4 Is this part of a series = yes Can it be read as a standalone = yes would I recommend this book=yes would I re read this book= yes would I read future books by this author= yes
This book is such a sweet, romantic and hot read. This is a new series by Laramie Briscoe and she did such a fabulous job with it. I loved the story line and the characters were great. The first book is about Ash and Emma. Ash is a single dad trying to navigate being both a mom and a dad to his little girl. He is doing such a great job too but he feels sometimes he is in uncharted territory and he is not sure if he does the right thing. Emma is a sweet girl who works two jobs but she really lacks confidence in herself. Emma has always had a crush on Ash. What happens when Ash decides that it is time to date? What happens when he decides Emma is that girl and he leaves the ball in her court? I will just say that you should pick up this book and find out the answer to those questions because you will not be disappointed at all. I cannot wait to see who book two is about. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
So ive sat here trying to find the perfect words to describe this book. And what I am going to say pales in comparison to how awesomely epic this book is. I read it three times to make sure that I got everything before even thinking about writing this review.
Ash and Em are actual perfection in written words. And Syd is the cutest kid ever. Like I want her to be mine.
A question that kept running through my mind as I was taking in the beautiful words of inflame, was, can you be in love with more than one male fictional character. And the answer is yes, yes you can because I am. Laramie Briscoe is keeping me single due to her diligence in setting the bar high on males in my life.
An absolutely fantastic read, was not disappointed at all. An absolute must read like all the others of Laramie Briscoe . Beautiful words, well written and a heart stopping romance all in a whirl wind emotionally charged epic rollecoaster that I never want to get off.
Massive thank you to you Laramie Briscoe for allow me the opportunity of reading inflame and any other books you have written and are going to write. You are my hero. And peeps be crazy for not loving your work as much as I do.
I Voluntarily Reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book!
I love a good Laramie Briscoe book. Ash & Emma's story might be short and sweet but it has all the elements of a good love story with a beautiful little Syd thrown in the mix.
Emma has had a crush on Ashford since high school. Too bad he was the quarterback of the high school team and dating the head cheerleader. Not to mention that Emma was just the smart kid behind the scenes with little friends and never could go outside of her comfort zone. Flash Forward to almost a decade later and you find Emma working as a waitress at Bridget's and waiting on Ash and his daughter. However today is a different day because all those times that she is wanted to see if there was something there between them she could never embrace it. This day though it was up to Ash and he wasn't about to let this opportunity go.
Ash needed to reach out and it was perfect timing for them both. As long as Syd was okay with the situation, that's all that matters. These two will light a fire to the match in this slow burning love story.
What do you get when a master wordsmith shares the story of a devoted single father, hard-working firefighter and loving son who is lonely and looking for love? You get Laramie’s latest debut of a new series that takes place in Midnight Cove. I think I can safely say that all the ladies who will read this enchantingly, sweet story of Ash & Emma will want to become instant residents of Midnight Cove, pronto! Throw in an incredibly adorable daughter, Sydney, and you’ve got a hat trick of perfection.
This is a slow burn but fast read and it made this reader wish there was a Midnight Cove in the next town over. If only to bask in the wonderful sense of community that Laramie paints with such amazing shades of wonderful. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment of this sweet series.
Ash & Emma, this is a bit of a slow burn, a little sweeter than I'm used to but oh so good! Single dad Ash is a firefighter and single dad to Sydney. She's his life, he'd give up anything for her. Emma is working jobs that aren't her true calling just to get by, she's always been a bit of a wallflower and lusted after Ash since high school. But he being a jock did the expected and dated the cheerleader, married her and had a child. Soon after he found himself alone raising his daughter. Ash never truly saw Emma, not really, until one snow day he found himself in the diner looking at her in a new light. One that is unfamiliar to him as he's stayed single, never bringing anyone around Sydney to prevent more heartbreak for her when the woman eventually leaves their lives. Something about Emma is different, he wants her in his life and he goes after her. Their story is sweet, the build up of their relationship as a couple and as a sort of family when she's included in Syd's life. I loved it, again it's sweeter than I'm used to but it worked!
Considering this book is a fairly quick read, I really got the feel of these characters. Sometimes it’s hard to connect to a budding relationship if it’s a short story but not so here. This book tells the struggle of being a singleminded, single parent who is finally finding time for his own life. It's such a sweet, sexy read that I just couldn’t put down.
My heart has connected with Ash, his cute daughter, Sydney. I felt the attraction between Ash and Emma and the heat that builds up to red hot at a lovely pace. What’s not to love about a single parent firefighter? Phew! He certainly created a fire in me!
Emma is sweet, kind and was so right for Ash that I just wanted them to be happy. Her confidence just grows throughout the story and it warmed my heart.
Holy Moly! Laramie sure knows how to write an awesome love story! How is she not more popular then she already is??? I mean, seriously...?!?! She’s amazing!
Ash and Emma have always known each other due to growing up in the same small town. Emma has always had a crush on him. Ash never noticed her since he was in love with the woman he was with who later became the mother of his child and his wife.
Now is the right time and these two start to date. And his little girl, Sydney!!! She was too stinking sweet!
This book made me feel good. I loved all these characters. I felt connected to them. Plus, I always love a single parent romance story. :)
I highly recommend this one. It is the first book in this new series. Can definitely be read on its own.
This is the first book in a new series by Laramie. I love her books so much and I was eager to read this new book. Ash is a single dad and an AF firefighter. Emma is a shy waitress/ part timer at the library. They knew each other in high school but didn’t run in the same circles. Then one day a kitchen mishap takes Ash and his daughter to the diner Emma works at. It’s a snow day and there isn’t anyone else in the diner with them. Emma is dressed differently and Ash feels like he is seeing her for the first time. She is more open to talking and flirting with him on this day. He takes a chance and leaves his number on the receipt. This is the beginning for them. This book is a bit fast paced but a great read. The characters in this book are fantastic. This book is funny and times and a bit emotional at others. I felt for Syd, Ash’s daughter. She is so used to it just being the two of them. Both Ash and Syd will go through some changes during the book. Emma grows in this book as well. I am excited to read the next book in this series. Hopefully these characters will be in the next book. Congrats Laramie on another fantastic book.
This was a quick read that had me hooked from the beginning. Ash and Syd had a great father daughter relationship and you could feel Ash's struggle with being a single parent with his uncertainties about being good enough and doing enough for his daughter. Enter Emma, a girl who has known him since high school but was not confident enough to pursue her dreams and Ash until given a little push from her friends. When together, the pair have off the charts chemistry that is palpable. Ash and Emma's story was a quick read but I could not get enough of their story. It was heart breaking at times but such a great read that I would recommend to others.
