The Legend of the Five Rings (L5R) 5th Edition Game Master Screen is one of the better RPG screens that I have seen. The screen itself has some setting/mood appropriate art on the outside and the inside is filled with several useful tables, rule page references, sequence outlines and brief weapon/armor traits explanations. Having had the experience of running a short L5R 5th edition mini-campaign, I found the screen’s information to be helpful. Of course, because of the numerous interpretations and uses of the various dice results, I still found that I had to create my own reference sheet for use by players and myself, but the screen was still a valuable resource.
In addition to the screen, you also get a 31-page booklet that includes information on making Player Characters from the minor Tortoise clan (though they only have one family and school to use as an option), information on the Tortoise-controlled port town of Slow Tide Harbor, and a good sandbox-style investigation adventure set in that location. I found the flexibility of having three options to choose from as the main villain for the adventure to be a great idea (for both replay ability and to offer some GM customization) and the dive into the dark themes of opium addiction, the seedy underworld of smuggling and criminal enterprises were great contrast for the normally opulent and civilized-seeming settings for traditional L5R adventures.
On another note (unless things have changed since this review), I have purchased both the hard-copy version and the digital version (from Drive Thru RPG) and the digital version only contained the screen and not the booklet content, so make sure you double-check what you are getting if are interested in the booklet.
