I highly recommend this read to anyone with an interest in the Southwest. The author, John Browne, wrote this in 1869 to document the life and times of the day there. Wow . . . America . . . what childhood! Thankfully I've read some of this history before so I know his view of the Apaches, other natives, and Mexicans, is narrow -- anthropocentric; even white supremacist. Such is white man's history in the southwest. Driven by the adventure, the gamble, of striking it rich, mining for silver and gold. This book is available (along with its many beautiful sketches) online for free: https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record...
