The Heart of Edarus #1

Memories Forgotten: An Epic Fantasy Reverse Harem

Rate this book
A moment. That's how fast your life can change.
I would know because that’s what happened to me. I made a choice and, in less than a second, my comfortable, normal life is turned into a confusing nightmare.
And you know what? I wouldn’t change a thing.

I’m Noemi. With no memory of my past, the life I’ve known has been spent in hiding and on the run with my guardian, Mincey. Only few others knew I existed.

Until now.

A power-hungry Dragon Overlord and his generals hunt shifters, stealing their abilities for themselves. Those who would oppose them are scattered across two realms. Only the inability to wield both Light and Dark energies stands in their way.

On Earth, the King of the Western States helps protect the shifters who reside within his borders and, after years of asking to join the effort, I finally convinced Mincey I was ready.

In a single heartbeat, my life changed forever.
While Mincey hunts a traitor, I’m stuck with three drool-worthy shifters who make the dark corners of my mind come alive. Forgotten memories start to resurface, I develop abilities that no shifter should have and, while Raiden, Murphy and Kage help me through it all, we discover that I am what the Dragon Overlord both needs and fears the most.

I was the key to The Heart.

Dive into a world of sexy sifters, secrets, and hope as Noemi and her men follow fate’s twisted path on an adventure with no guarantees of survival. When her true destiny is revealed, it will change not just one realm, but all of them.

That is, if it doesn’t kill her first.

Author's note: As the first book in The Heart of Edarus Series, it ends in a cliffhanger (sorry not sorry). This is a medium/slow reverse harem story and includes sexy scenes and mature language. Intended for ages 18 years and older.

This I'd a DNF for me at 72%.

This started well. The MC seemed pretty badass and I like the idea that it was some futuristic, sort of post apocalyptic world where hi as wiped a lot of each other out. But then it lost me for several reasons and it never quite got me back, to the point where I was a mixture of annoyed and bored.

The small issue that annoyed me was the world building. You were sort of dropped into it at the start, and it was interatu g, but no more real explanation of what had happened. I couldn't even try to explain to you know what the back story to the world building is here.

My main issue was home the female MC became totally lame once the two guys were on the scene.

There was insta love galore in this one, with the good old mate bond trope. At first I didn't mind too much, because the guys interested me, but a few chapters in I couldn't even remember which one was which. At 20% when the nicknames started, particularly "baby girl" (which always makes me want to throw up on my mouth) it took a bad turn and didn't go back.

The female MC is at least 50 (a supernatural, not an old woman), yet has no memories if her past and has spent 50 years in hiding. She might as well have been 16 for her innocent and naeieve attitude. We also have the virgin trope here. She is treated like a child by the guys (when the third comes in the scene he calls her Princess) and just jets them do it.

They then spend most of the time cuddling her and making her coffee. We also have the 'heroine is addicted to coffee' trope.

I'm sounding a bit bitchy now, and this book wasn't bad - I would urge others to give it a try, as it might just be me who it wound up. There was some cool development of the MC's potential powers, but it just became tedious for me eventually and I didn't like the portrayal of the relationship of the characters.

An excellent debut from Aspen. The characters were well done. The world building was subtly weaved in so it doesn't ever feel like an info dump. The pacing was pretty steady throughout and the ending leaves me wanting more.

Why?

I loved the story and the characters. I hate the cliffhanger. Why can't authors trust that we will read book 2 without a cliffhanger?

Emma - the girl who can't remember her past, who is half human and half what? Maybe...

Murphy - the tall, gorgeous merman with oceanic eyes that wields water like aquaman

Raiden - the sexy, commanding warrior pegasus with storm cloud eyes who wields lightning and air

Kage - beautiful black panther loner with ability to use earth and vines

Muncie - Emma's dragon guardian that found and raised her

Plus a couple of hawk shifters, a king, a prince, a papa bear and two sons, a alpha wolf, and Mama's cooking...

Enter the bad guys - a dragon overlord, and his sons, the princes, that capture powerful shifts so he can harness their powers.

It's good. Really good. But I can't promise I will read book 2. The cliffhanger was too much for a first book.

This book is absolutely perfect. Aspen Marks’ debut novel is simply... amazing. I’m awed by this entire story. I’m in love with the characters. The story has a really great pace from beginning to end, it simply catches your attention from the very first few words and it keeps you hooked until the very end. I want more, no, I need more of this story ASAP. I love strong female characters and that’s exactly what you’ll get with this book. The guys are.. hot, sexy, sinful. Caring and adorable. This entire book is one amazing ride worth taking. You won’t regret it. Seriously. Read it. Now. You’ll thank me later

You should read this

I don’t write many reviews and usually I only write one if the book is good or written well enough to be worth reading. This book is good. If you are into paranormal reverse harem romance, this. Is. Your. Book. Enjoy!

Wow! What an amazing and totally engrossing read! While the worldbuilding could use some elaboration, and it's never really explained why the Dragon Overlord is bad (side note: Dragon Overlord is a wickedly awesome title), I couldn't put this book down. Noemi (or Emmy as she prefers to be called) is a kick-ass female lead, who doesn't lose her kick-assness as soon as she meets her mates. The writing was solid, each character had their own distinct personalities (the guys didn't all blend in together), and there were very few editing errors (I'm looking at you You're Royal Highness). There was definitely some insta-love happening, and while I'm not usually a fan, the fact that they didn't all jump into bed immediately was a huge plus. And what a serious cliffhanger ending!!!!! I would highly recommend reading this, and I will definitely be buying the next one!!

Good first book

This is the first book for this author and it was great.

The MC in this book is sheltered by her guardian for good reason. I love that even though she is hidden away from others she still sticks up for herself and won't let anyone tell her what to do. She is also protective over those she considers her family which adds more fire to the character.
The guys add a new aspect to this as she has to learn to trust them. I like how the relationship naturally progressez in this book even though there is that crazy mate bond attraction.

This book ends on a cliffhanger that will for sure have you waiting for book 2

This book is officially one of my favorite books that I have read this year! The FMC is so strong and lets be honest, she is badass! She is the strong women we all want to look up to. This book kept me on my toes from the first page all the way until the last! The characters were well developed and the story line was amazing! I would 100% recommend this book and I cannot wait to see what is next in this series and from this author!

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review! I am so happy to say it was absolutely amazing!

Absolutely Amazing

I can not say enough good things about this book!! I love Emmy and the guys. And Mincey, she just screams overbearing, loving, bada$$ grandma to me and I want one just like her! Of course, Murphy & Raiden are everything a woman would want in a man, or men. Their need to protected above all else is heartwarming, while their inability to withstand her pout is so comical. I can’t wait for book 2!!

Engaging storyline. Really enjoyed the concepts and the world creation. This series could be so much more, in my opinion. I kept wanting more: I wanted the steamy scenes to be steamier. The character building and world building to be more immersive. There were so many opportunities for the author to dig deeper into each aspect of the characters, the passion, the story line. It remains an entertaining read and I look forward to the 3rd book. Be prepared for cliff-hangers.

Captivating and engrossing from the very first pages, I got lost in Emmy's story
There is incredible shifters, plot, pain and most of characters. Little details were added throughout the story making for some amazing world building. I cannot wait for book 2.

Huh...

I liked this book. I'm still a little confused about some parts of the backstory for Emmy and this world. However, even without all that information I found the story very enjoyable.

Emmy is a girl taken under the wings of a dragon warrior when shes going without any memories. This story is how she finds out that she is not the simple human she thinks and also what she is truly destined for. It does end on a cliffhanger but I'm definitely looking forward to the next book.

Slow burn RH set in a post apocalyptic future - but be warned, there's a cliffhanger!

I really enjoyed this, slower paced than I normally read, at least for the romance, but the pace of the action and the overall world building makes up for it. Noemi - Emmy - has lost her memories, so as a reader we learn a lot of what's going on in the world as she does.

There's twists and turns and, as mentioned, a massive cliffhanger leading into the next book - which I can't wait to read!

Love this book! I love it with the FMC is a bada$$. She takes care of herself! I mean yes, she has a guardian, but she doesn't need anyone, she can defend herself without having to rely on anyone else.

Dnf 80%. Special snowflake MC, shallow characters and relationships, cheesy dialogue, showing instead of telling, and nothing that makes me care enough to finish.

DNF @ 35%

It's slower, I didn't quite understand what was all going on, and I was bored. How do you keep a multiple centuries old being from communicating with/meeting more than 4 people? Then BAM introduce them to a room full of people.
It has such great potential... just didn't work for me :(
