Rate this book

What a conclusion to this marvelous and masterful 1800+ page, three volume biography of St. Josemaria Escriva, the Founder of Opus Dei!

It accurately paints the state of the Church and the world following Vatican II when the sowers of confusion co-opted that moment in the Church’s history to advance their own agenda according to the supposed “spirit of Vatican II.” This biography brilliantly depicts St. Josemaria’s anguish and pain in having this reality weigh on his heart.

It also takes you across the Atlantic for this saint’s two apostolic journeys to Latin America. And finally it shows you how St. Josemaria longed to see the face of Christ as he approached the end of his earthly life.

Highly recommended!

Starting from 1945 we trace the life of St Josemaria and the founding of the Work right up until his death on 26th June 1975. There is so much in these three volumes that its impossible to remember or comment on it all so this time I focused on the love the religious had for him and the spirit of the work. I was well aware of the love he had for the religious so I was surprised (but shouldn't have been) that they loved him too. In 1972 he was asked to visit the Cistercian, Augustinian and Carmelite sisters which he did joyfully. To the Carmelites in Puzol he said:
You are the treasure of the Church. Without you the Church would be arid, and we would not be able to say, "Draw joyfully the waters of the Saviour's fountains." It is you here who draw the waters, so that we can turn the dry land into a grove full of oranges. Without your help we wouldn't accomplish a thing. So I have come to thank you ... a thousand blessings!"
To which I respond: Amen!

Me encantó 🤩.

The three books on the life of St. Escriva explain in detail his life, his struggles up to his point of death..
Captures his silent humor and draws you into his sufferings. They show you the basics of how to live like a saint.. Lets go!
Maybe its the authors writing format that makes it so enjoyable to read... Or maybe Scepter's publishing. Captivating!
