Never Trust a Rockstar was the first book in the Rockstars in Kill Devil Hills series by Sarah Darlington. (Update: renamed the Never Trust series)

It was a quick and heartfelt read. I enjoyed the characters. Caleb was the lead singer in the wildly famous band, Sunset Revival. The band was made up of three brothers and their female cousin. Oddly enough, the face of the band was Caleb’s brother Ollie. Emma was a small town girl with a fan girl crush on Ollie, whom she won a date with for one night. Darlington took us through the disastrous date and the friendship build between Caleb and Emma with a variety of twists along the way. It ended too abruptly and although there was a bonus scene, it really needed an epilogue.

Darlington set us up for the series well by introducing all the personalities within the band. All in all, it was a good start to the series and I look forward to Dani in Never Kiss A Rockstar.

3.5/4 Stars (This was really hard to rate because I had totally different feelings about the first 2/3 than I did w/the last 1/3)

Winning a date with her favorite rockstar is a dream come true for Emma Winchester, 22. That is until she actually meets him and discovers that the real catch is his brother. Caleb Mills isn’t about to let his brother’s dick moves drive away the girl who’s caught his eye. If friendship is all it becomes he’ll be satisfied with that…until he isn’t.

This sucked me in right from the start. What began as I’ll just start this book before bed, became thirty chapters later at 1am.

I’m pretty sure Caleb was to blame for keeping me up. He just had the whole cool, reserved good guy thing down, and it emanated from the page right from the start.
“‘But the second you don’t have a boyfriend I promise I will be all over you.’”

On the outside he’s hot lead singer; on the inside he’s a quietly struggling lyricist with a bit of middle child syndrome.

Told via their dual alternating first person POV, once he sees Emma, he’s all in for her. Caleb was really swoon-worthy. He was so attentive to Emma and totally supportive of all she was going through. He never had a big ego; instead he was down-to-Earth and came off as a sweet and sensitive guy.
““I’m trying my damnest to go slow with you. You seem to be trying your damnest to make that impossible for me.’”

Now the downside: I flew through the first two-thirds of this, totally engaged and with a smile on my face. The last third though was like hitting a wall at impact though. I really struggled with the OW drama and a trope I’m not fond of. In fact, I had to skip over it and go back and read it later. I wish this section would have ditched the angsty twist for…well sex! I was okay with the slow burn until the drama got in the way of steamy times and her virginity became too much of an issue for my liking.

Despite my ending frustrations with the plot and pacing in the later half, I’m really looking forward to the next book with Dani and John (Never Kiss a Rockstar). Dani was a hoot in this one!
“‘Oh thank God!...We’re saved.’”

Set in Kill Devil Hills, we get appearances from some of our old friends from that series including the “blonde Jesus” (whose book Kill Devil Hills was my fav in that series.) But you don’t have to have read the other books to follow this story, though it did make me want to re-read.

I’ve read my fair share of rockstar romances…If you even whisper the words Rockstar Romance, I will pounce on it.
Never Trust A Rockstar promised a whole load of everything I loved in a rockstar romance but somewhere It felt off.

Let’s not go into details and just say that I didn’t really enjoy this book as much as I thought I would.

Moving on!

A great start to a new series🎸

The 1st book in a new Rockstar series with an author I haven't read before but will again, I'm thinking! There are more connected books to follow in the next few months in this easy to love series and I'm interested to see what happens next.

Emma, waitress, house cleaner living in the coastal town of Kill Devil Hills, NC with her family, while fantasizing and dreaming of her rock idol crush, Ollie Mills. She's been dating a guy, really hasn't felt the connection at all, but her family loves him, so she keeps trying to find it. He's sweet, handsome, perfect in every way, except for touching her heart.

A chance for excitement comes when Emma gets a chance to meet her dream rocker but what if her expectations don't match up with the reality?

This band, Sunset Revival, that Emma loves, obsesses over and follows in every social platform and its members are all family so, sometimes things become alittle bit tense between them. They know each other very well from spending massive amounts of time together which can be a blessing and a curse. When the sweet, lovely Emma steps into their world, it brings out the worst in one brother and the protective side in another. One night can change everything!

This is a sexy but slow burning romance (for reasons you will understand as you get to know these characters) full of anticipation, a few twists, some ups and downs and plenty of feels to keep your eyes on the pages. I love some killer angst in my romances, often my blood pressure doesn't agree, but there is something to be said when it's kept to a reasonable level and lets the sweet glow of love and care to shine through. Plenty of excitement and curiosity about the other characters presented here will have you asking...when is that next book coming out again??? That next couple's story is teased at the end of this one and will no doubt melt down their pages...I'm looking soooo forward to getting burned!

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

Sometimes when you meet that famous person you have had a crush on they match the person you see on the TV, but as Emma discovers, sometimes they shatter the illusions you have completely. Olly Mills certainly shatters the illusion that Emma has about him, however his brother Caleb see's something in Emma from the moment that he see's her.

Emma and Caleb actually find themselves able to talk to each other and there is a chemistry pulling them together that neither has felt before. Emma has to make some hard decisions, especially as some bad medical results come in, but also in her personal life as she currently has a boyfriend.

Sometimes you just go along with life until, life throws you those curveballs and something good happens that you were not expecting, Caleb is one of those curveballs for Emma.

I really did enjoy this book and cannot wait to visit Kill Devil Hills again and to see what happens next in this series.

I have to say I started this book this morning and finished it 5 seconds ago (with a full day of work and mom duties in-between). It is that good! I love when authors write in a way that make you not want to put the book down. I definitely had that, "what happens next? What is she going to say? What is he going to do?" Inner dialogue the whole way through the book. I love the insta respect and chemistry that Emma and Caleb have for each other. The friendship they build is flirty but real. She is a small town girl with lots of family obligations and he is the sweetest rocker you will ever read.

Great read! Humor, unexpected twists, feels everything in a good read! Emma has a crush on a rockstar, nothing unusual about that, but now she's won a date with him! What happens when you meet your famous crush and he turns out to be more of a frog than a prince? In steps his bother, a guy you connect with, but you already have a boyfriend what are you going to do? Very good read, great characters, touching storylines and nice pacing.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.

‘Never trust a rockstar’ is the first book of a new series that revolve around the music band ‘Sunset Revival’. This band consist of the three brothers Luke, Caleb and Ollie Mills and their female cousin Dani. Just like in any other family they have their ups and downs. But when needed they have each other’s back. For the readers who have read the ‘Kill Devil Hills’ series, they will recognize a few familiar faces in this new series too.

Emma is a 22 year old girl that lives in a small beach town where nothing much happens. Her days consist of working hard and spending her free with her sick mother or her boyfriend Nick. But she does have one obsession and that’s Ollie Mills, the youngest and hottest brother of the rock band ‘Sunset Revival’. So when she wins a date with him, she’s over the moon! But soon she lands on earth again when she discovers that the real version of Ollie isn’t so great as her fantasy one but there is one other person that she meets that night that is friendly to her and that’s the middle brother, Caleb.

From the moment that Caleb saw Emma, he knew she was special. So he made sure that they stayed in contact with each other. And the more time they spend together the more they realize that there is something special between them. But life isn’t always that simple. There is Emma’s boyfriend, her mother illness and the consequences of that for Emma and her family. And there is Caleb’s past that comes back with demands and secrets. Caleb and Emma will have to prove to each other and the world that their feelings for each other are special and worth fighting for.

‘Never trust a rockstar’ is a new adult story that is told from both POV’s. I liked both characters very much (and let me reassure you, there is no cheating involved). Emma may first appear a bit naive In her obsession with Ollie but soon you discover a different side of her. She may be innocent but she’s not a fool. I loved Caleb’s character from the start, he’s intelligent, kind, protective but he also has an insecure side in him. I especially liked that. But in the end he’s also a rockstar and they are known for doing things in a ‘rockstar’ way.

Each member of the band has a different personality so I’m very curious about their stories. And if you read carefully you can already see who their love interest will be

Just like in Sarah Darlington’s other books, there was again a difficult and emotional theme in this book. This time it’s about breast cancer. A disease that not only has consequences for the person that is sick but also for the people around them. But don’t worry, this story isn’t dark or sad. When I was reading it, I discovered that I was both emotional and smiling at the same time. That’s part of this writer writing style, to touch a sensitive subject but always in a light way.

‘Never trust a rockstar’ is a great start of a new series.

Winning a Date With a Rock Star

You would think winning a date with a rock star you have been crushing on since forever would be a dream come true. Well not if Ollie thinks he's God's gift and figures he's doing you a favor by allowing you to have sex with him. Pretty typical probably but with Emma being a nice virgin who had been taking care of her cancer ridden mother she had stars in her eyes and things didn't work out like she thought.

Ollie's brother Caleb may be the lead singer of the band but he's also the one that sees so much more in Emma than a quick bathroom fling. Emma is beginning to realize that she may have been crushing on the wrong brother. Caleb is nothing like his egotistical brother and would love the chance to at least be friends with Emma.

There are a lot of highs and lows in this book and I just couldn't put it down because I had to know right then and there if these two would be able to work through everything that was thrown at them. I have found a series I love and I can't wait for the second book to come out.

This one was a really good read. Emma has a crush on rock star Ollie. It's just a pipe dream until she wins a contest and get to met him in real life. The author is one of my one click authors and I didn't read the blurb so I thought Emma was going to get with Ollie but one chapter two was in Ollie's brother Caleb's POV I was like ok. I had doubts how it was going to transition smoothly from Ollie being Emma's crush to her liking Caleb but the story line was prefect. Emma is sweet and nice and Caleb is prefect for her. Caleb likes Emma and at first he settles for just being her friend. Caleb is a good guy and I was so rooting for him. This one is definitely one you should one click. I wasn't really a huge fan of Ollie but I am hoping that he gets a book too.

4.5*

I love Sarah Darlington’s Kill Devil Hills series so much, so I was really excited when she announced she’d be revisiting there with her new rock star series, centered around four member of the band, Sunset Revival. Book 1, Never Trust a Rock Star, is a great introduction to the series, the band, and its members.

Emma may think Ollie’s the one she wants, but it’s Caleb, the charming, swoony lead singer who swoops in to steal her heart. What started out as friendship, and a special one at that, slowly developed into such a sweet romance. Caleb may have lived the typical rock star life, but he’s put that all behind him and is ready to win Emma’s heart. I loved how caring and patient he was with Emma, even going so far as to tell her to keep trying with her boyfriend, though deep down it was killing him to think of her with Nick!
I really liked Emma. She’s so endearing, a bit naïve, and shouldering a lot for a 22 year old. She can certainly hold her own, yet at other times you can definitely tell she’s just 22.

I enjoyed seeing Emma and Caleb’s relationship progress. They became such good friends in a short amount of time, but there was a true connection between them. And as they grew closer, the love between them really got a chance to blossom and grow. I loved that Caleb didn’t push Emma, even if he was more than ready to move things along. He gave her the space she needed, especially after the surprising revelation.

Sarah Darlington writes the New Adult books I want to read- she’s one of my favorites in this genre. While Caleb and Emma face some heavier issues in this book, I like that Ms. Darlington doesn’t really add any unnecessary drama or angst. Everything that happened worked to move the story along, as well as to set up for the coming books in the series. In another author’s hands I can see some of this going off the rails, but Sarah never lets it get that far.

Never Trust a Rock Star is an engaging start to the Never Trust series and I can't wait to get to know more about Dani, Liam, and Ollie!

••••••••••

NEVER TRUST A ROCKSTAR is the first instalment in Sarah Darlington’s contemporary year, adult ROCKSTARS IN KILL DEVIL HILLS rock romance series focusing on the members of the rock band Sunset Revival-a spin off from the author's Kill Devil Hills series. This is lead singer Caleb Mills, and waitress Emma Winchester’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Caleb and Emma) NEVER TRUST A ROCKSTAR follows the building relationship between Caleb Mills and Emma Winchester. Emma Winchester was obsessed with rockstar Ollie Mills, and was overwhelmed when she discovered that she had won a contest to meet Ollie Mills but Emma’s fantasies about Ollie came to a crashing halt when Ollie showed his true colors. Desperate to get away, Emma will find herself on the run with Caleb Mills, Ollie’s brother, and the man with whom Emma would fall in love. What ensues is the slow building romance and relationship between Emma and Caleb, and the potential fall-out as Caleb’s past comes looking for a second chance, and Emma refuses to stand in the way.

Emma Winchester’s obsession with Ollie Mills was borderline stalkerish and out of control but having met Caleb, Emma quickly lost her heart to a man she barely knows. Caleb despises his brother’s treatment of women, and our story line heroine, and is willing to step up and be the man Emma needs and wants, but there is someone else standing in the way, and Caleb refuses to cross the line.

The relationship between Caleb and Emma is one of immediate attraction but Emma’s personal life is slowly spiralling out of control. From her mother’s illness to the other man in her life, Emma struggles between head and heart knowing that not all is as it appears to be. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to the members of Sunset Revival: Caleb’s brothers Ollie and Luke, as well as their cousin Dani; Emma’s mother Bonne, and her aunt Luce.

NEVER TRUST A ROCKSTAR is a story of family, friendships, struggle and love. The premise is heartbreaking, emotional and engaging; the romance is seductive; the characters are colorful, flirty, impassioned and fun. NEVER TRUST A ROCKSTAR is a wonderful introduction to Sarah Darlington’s Rockstars in Kill Devil Hills .

This is the first book that I have read by Sarah Darlington and it will definitely not be the last because now after reading the first book in this series I can't wait for the next.
This book is about Emma, a 22 year old, who is having a pretty tough life by working a lot and taking care of her sick mother. At this point, her life is pretty much planned, but one day she wins a date with a Ollie Mills from the group Sunset Revival, with whom she has been obsessed.
But she gets disappointed because he is not what she pictured him to be. On that date she met his brother Caleb, who seemed to be a total opposite of Ollie although he is a rockstar as well.
They become friends, actually more than friends but they didn't want to admit that.
Caleb, who has had his heart broken before, doesn't believe in love anymore, but when he saw Emma something changed in him.
This book is about how they found love and how their love won besides different obstacles they both had to go through, this book is about prejudice people have about rockstars and how sometimes they get proved wrong.

Sarah Darlington does another brilliant job in her new release; Never Trust A Rockstar. This book had me hooked from the very first page and once I started, I couldn’t put it down. NTaR was the perfect, slow-burn-emotional-rock romance book I’ve read—and I’ve read my fair share of rock romance. So if you’re looking for your next read, look no more. Sarah Darlington gives it her all in this one, and you know what? She nailed it!

"Because even if something did start between us, I knew deep down, I should never trust a Rockstar".

3.75 Stars

I was so happy to be back in Kill Devil Hills, NC! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one.

Honestly, I didn’t even read the synopsis. I went in blind. I just knew it contained Rock Stars and my favorite little beach town.

I loved Emma from the start. Sweet, innocent, naive virgin and dealing with a mother with cancer. Just “stuck” in life. Working part-time as a waitress and a maid. And a boyfriend who she’s not really into, but he’s hot and super nice and the family loves him.

She ends up winning a date with the famous rock star, Ollie Mills. He’s part of a rock band with his brothers, Caleb and Luke and their cousin Dani. Emma has it in her head that she’s in love with Ollie, but once she meets him she realizes he’s not the dream man she envisioned in her head. Thank God Ollie wasn’t the Hero. He came off as a huge douchebag and a super manwhore. HOWEVER, I’m looking forward to seeing this character evolve (as I know he has a book in this series with the Heroine’s aunt).

Eventually, Caleb steps up and saves the evening. He’s pretty much the opposite of Ollie (whose manwhore ways are in his past - this was still hard to read about though).

"I was Caleb Mills. I could have any girl I wanted, really, for the most part. And yet this one girl, one I barely knew, was driving me wild."

This was a slow burn sweet romance. Emma and Caleb sort of start out as friends and it turns into more. Their chemistry pops off the pages.

"I made a promise that I would be her first. And I fully intended to keep that promise. But the truth was, I wanted more than her first. I didn’t want her to compare me to anyone else because I didn’t want there to be anyone else to compare to. I wanted it all—to be her only."

Before we even get to the good stuff though, we run into OW drama (which I was not a fan of btw). Not sure how I feel about the resolution. I'm torn between relieved and disappointed in his brother.

All ends in HFN with hints of HEA.

Looking forward to Dani’s book!

***2.5 STARS

I really wanted to love this book been that I love rockstars stories so much. The concept of the love story between Emma and Caleb; a rockstar and his fan falling in love intrigued me but the developments felt off to me. I couldn’t connect with the main characters life and choices.

I think I’m the minority with this book. Again it wasn’t my cup of tea but it can definitely be yours.

Sarah Darlington always write beautiful and full of meaning stories and Never Trust a Rockstar couldn't fall behind.
Rockstar romances are a go to for me, and having glimpses of Kill Devil Hills' crew made this story even better!

From the second Caleb sees Emma everything changes. The attraction is instant but Emma isn't there for him... she's there for a date with Ollie, Caleb's brother.
Fortunately something goes wrong and Caleb sees a chance to try to get to know Emma better and they become friends.
What comes after, left me glued to my kindle until the end.

I loved this story until something happens and changes the rhythm of it all and somehow it feels like the end was rushed because of it.

Now, I cant wait for Dani's story because I know it will be fantastic!

I thought this book was so good! First book I’ve read from this author but it makes me want to read more. Caleb and Emma’s story was amazing from page one. Their chemistry, their struggles, their moments working through their feelings all made for a story I could not put down. And the fact Caleb is a rockstar he is the perfect guy! I look forward to more books in the series!

When Emma’s dreams come true and she wins a date with the rockstar that she is basically obsessed with, Ollie, she is amped to meet the man of her dreams until she meets him and can’t stand being in his presence a second. Enter Caleb who’s Ollie’s brother and he’s happy that he crashed and burned and is intrigued by Emma and wants to know her. I enjoyed every page of this story and can’t wait for more from this series or rockers!!

Do I love a Rockstar romance? Why yes, yes I do! And boy did this one have me hooked!Caleb and Emma were oh so perfect!

Emma lives in a small town, she's obsessed with one person, Ollie, from her favourite band. So when she wins a competition for a once in a lifetime chance to have a date with him, you can kind of hear the screeching coming from her throat!

Caleb, is the middle brother to his youngest brother, Ollie. He's not his biggest fan, since Ollie's ego is growing a bit out of control. Caleb's more introverted but the main singer of the band.

When that date night brings Emma into town to meet the band of her dreams, she ends up taking Caleb's breath away. She's a nervous wreck and he consoles her. He takes care of her even when he doesn't have to.

Ollie might not have been who she thought but she found Caleb and he might have been everything she ever needed.

Its a sweet story, that has strong character development, a lot of charm and a bit of emotion, along with a twist that will have you on edge.

I adored every character and was grateful for the ARC! It was my first ever read by Sarah Darlington, and I for one will be looking forward to more!

5 stars today, 5 stars everyday!!! What a rockstar romance whirlwind. I can’t get enough of rockstar romance stories and this one did not disappoint! This was my first Sarah Darlington story and I loved it so much. The story is told by Emma who is in love with the band Sunset Revival, particularly the guitarist Ollie Mills and Caleb Mills, Ollie’s brother, who is the lead singer of the band. Throughout the story Emma starts to develop feelings towards Caleb which she never saw coming and Caleb falls just as hard.

There was nothing about this book I did not love! I devoured it in a couple of days and wish I could read it again for the first time all over again to continue falling in love with the characters! I want my own Caleb - for a rockstar, he is sweet, protective, insanely gorgeous with a cheeky side and I love reading romance books from the guys POV, it makes me swoon reading how they develop feelings for their future partner, that’s always my favourite part!

Once again, a fantastic read where you get lost in a yummy rockstar romance!!!

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
This is my first book by Sarah Darlington and I really enjoyed it. This is the first book in the Never Trust series and it is a standalone romance with no cliffhangers.
We follow Caleb and Emma as they meet and click and soon become a couple. They start slow and sweet but their connection is intense and their chemistry sizzles. There is plenty of drama and emotion in this story. Really enjoyable. I can't wait to see what the rest of the band get up to.
I will definitely be reading more by this author.

As the saying goes “Never meet your heroes, because they’re sure to disappoint you” Well Emma learned that lesson the hard way when she met her crush her idol Ollie Mills. Seriously you can’t help but want to junk punch him repeatedly. He was rude and arrogant, but Caleb Mills wasn’t. How can two brothers be total opposite? You’ll find out in this book.

All Emma Winchester did was work and take care of her mother with the help of her Aunt Luce. Just struggling to make ends meet she dates a perfectly normal boy that she doesn’t feel anything for and she feels it’s her fault. She spends her nights after her shift’s internet stalking Ollie Mills of the band Sunset Revival. When Luce enters her into a contest to meet the band and she wins she feels this is her chance. Like I said earlier meeting him turns out to be an epic crap fest. He tosses his rockstar snark at her like she’s groupie and it doesn’t go well. It’s also at this gala she meets Caleb the lead singer. Maybe this “date” isn’t so bad. Emma starts to question her relationship with Nick and her relationship with Caleb, so she has an important decision to make. Yet this isn’t all Emma is dealing with she needs to make a life altering decision when it comes to her health.

Caleb is the anti-lead singer. While he does get up on stage and rock the panties off the ladies, he’s an introvert at heart. Sure, he has shared a bed with many days early on in his career he doesn’t do that much anymore. When a curly haired freckled beauty catches his eye across a hotel lobby, he feels the pull. You know the one? The bang the zing the this is who I want to wake up next to forever. When he learns this is his brother Ollies date, he knows he must act professional. He befriends her and gets in her good graces. When he finds Emma back in Kill Devil Hills, he knows this is his chance. He woos her and falls hard despite her hesitation. Yet when a blast from the past comes knocking on his door, he is faced with a decision that will also alter his future as well.

This book hurt my heart. I really shed a tear for Emma’s decision. She’s so young and so brave I’ll give her that. I felt like she was staring her destiny in the face when she looked at her mom. That must have been hard, but she loved her something fierce. Luce could have been more supportive. Caleb is the ultimate book boyfriend. I’m a darn sucker for rockstar books and this one didn’t disappoint. It made me swoon it made me upset it made me angry, so I say job well done. My only complaint was that epilogue just seemed to end. Like there was more but it got lost somewhere and I seriously thought something was wrong with my copy. Yet I’m glad with the way it ended so I wonder who’s next? Will Ollie get a chance to redeem himself? Dani? Lucas? I’m ready for whoever gimme gimme!!

“I’d known this girl for a grand total of thirty minutes, and already I wanted to punch my brother in his face over her.”

The first book in Sarah Darlington’s new series, the Never Trust series, introduces us to a family of rockstars that promise to steal your hearts.

In this first installment we meet the whole gang, but focus mainly on Caleb Mills - the lead singer of the band and middle child of three brothers. He’s serious and sweet and falls hard when it comes to love. Having had his heart broken in the past, he’s now guarded and isn’t looking for love. Then he sees Emma Winchester for the first time, and he’s a goner - and he doesn’t even know it.

“I wasn’t sure what made him look over at the exact moment that he did, but his eyes connected with mine. Like the super-dork, fan-girl that I was, I smiled ear to ear.
Caleb even returned my smile before he disappeared onto the elevator.”

Emma Winchester is your typical fan-girl, completely obsessed with Ollie Mills, until she meets Caleb. Emma is very insecure of her looks, but not so much that she loses respect for herself. When Ollie turns out to be nothing like she expected, she finds comfort and friendship in his brother, Caleb. Slowly she opens up to him and reveals a few of her deepest secrets and fears. Falling for Caleb Mills scares her.

This was a sweet slow burn a bit heavy on the emotional side, which is signature to Sarah’s books. I enjoyed both Caleb and Emma’s characters, the way they slowly get to know each other and navigate their feelings for each other. Emma is reluctant with her feelings, while Caleb has already fallen hard and is trying to not scare her away - he’s taking it slow with her. I’m always game for a good slow burn.

While I did enjoy the story I felt there was an unnecessary obstacle added near the end, it was resolved rather quickly which also made me feel like the story definitely could’ve done well without it. However, I also feel like it may be a hint to what we can expect in a future book - so, I’m not complaining too much.

Never Trust a Rockstar introduces us to a wonderful group of characters and I seriously can’t wait to read the rest of their stories. I’m really looking forward to Ollie’s story because he’s definitely the bad boy type and I’m trash for bad boy rockstars.

*A huge thanks to the author for providing me with an eARC for review. All thoughts are my own.*

I really enjoyed this romance. Emma is living a sad somewhat mundane life. Her mother is ill and her family is doing their best to hold it all together. She has developed a crush on Ollie, a famous rockstar. She has the chance to meet him and quickly realizes all that glitters is not gold. Caleb, Ollie's brother is different. Caleb is not your typical rockstar hero. Yes he is famous and hot, but the excess of the life of a rockstar is old and he is over it. It seems he wants to continue to play, sing, and write, just maybe in a more low key way. Caleb and Emma meet and have instant chemistry. I really liked Caleb. He is sweet and knows what he wants. Emma is a little harder to get to know. She has walls and is insecure, but once you got past them was a genuinely sweet girl who wanted to be loved. I felt bad for Emma's boyfriend, Nick. I hate that she continued to pursue a relationship with him even though she wasn't feeling it. I think her mom and aunt were partly at fault for that. I really hope he gets a story and HEA. She did break up with Nick before getting physical with Caleb, but not before frequently texting, talking, and developing a type of relationship with Caleb. Not much ow/om drama, just a little bit. I enjoyed seeing some of the characters from the Kill Devil Hills series. The writing was great. The author did create quite the connection between the main characters, and all the other characters, though not always a happy one. She also inserts a bit realism into all of her books. This one deals with breast cancer and the obstacles many families face as well as real family dynamics, and depression, though not a main part of the story. No filler drama, great pacing, and no awkward dialogue. Can't wait to read the next one.

description

Sarah Darlington takes her readers back to Kill Devil Hills in her brand new series and my goodness is it good to be back. I was addicted to her Kill Devil Hills series and when she announced that she was launching her new series right back where it all started, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the first book and let's just say that it was beyond anything I could have ever imagined.

Never Trust a Rockstar was a beautifully captivating romance with just the right amount of angst to get your heart fluttering. This series revolves around the popular rock band, Sunset Revival, and I cannot freaking wait to get to know each of the band members. It only seems fitting that the first book would be all about Caleb Mills (lead singer) and Emma Winchester. These two definitely were the perfect couple to start with because their story helped to set each of the other couple's stories in motion.

The moment Caleb laid eyes on Emma he was crazy for her, even if she was only there because she won a dream date with his brother, Ollie Mills. Emma thought she was in love with Ollie Mills, but the moment she met him that all changed, especially since he turned out to be totally full of himself. The only silver lining of her "date" was getting to know Caleb, even if she'll probably never see him again. When their connect becomes evident, he will do whatever it takes to get close to her, even if it means canceling his tour, renting a house near her, and sitting on the sidelines while she tries to figure out things with her boyfriend. Just when things seem to be falling into place they get a surprise of a lifetime that will chance the course of their relationship.

This story was amazing and now I can't freaking wait to get my hands on Dani and John's story, Never Kiss a Rockstar!

This book was given to me free in exchange for an honest review

The plot:
So the story of lead singer if Sunset Revival, Caleb and fangirl Emma. Emma wins a competition to meet her heartthrob Ollie Mills and his band. Ollie turns out to be a dick, but his bandmate brother turns out to be the guy of her dreams.

This had all the makings of a great rockstar romance. It was a completely engaging read. It was sweet, full of feels and definitely pulled on those heart strings. Caleb was a sensitive hero, whose vulnerability contrasted against his fame making him very accessible.

Emma was stringwilled and together they made a great couple. I didn’t like her love of Ollie at the beginning. It seemed a bit naive and stalkerish to let your feelings for a complete stranger affect your current relationship. It made her feel more like 17 than 22. But that’s the story so I rolled with it.

Why only three stars?
Well... it’s a hard one. Several things slightly irked me.

Illness. It’s just not something I look for in the romances. It’s just depressing. It was handled sensitivity but I just think in real life its all-encompassing. There would have been no space for anything else. It’s a major downer for me personally.

Caleb. I loved him. I did. But I just felt he was a bit too vulnerable and down to earth to be a rockstar. I am not sure I was convinced that he was one. I think if he had been a more recessive member like the drummer I would have felt it more.

Emma’s virginity. It’s fine but by the end I felt like she was wearing a huge badge with it written on. I wanted them to rip each others clothes off, not listen to Caleb telling us why he had to make it so very special for her whilst only giving her a chaste kiss. It felt like it went on that way until 95% way through the book when they FINALLY got it on. I think I expect a bit more loose and loaded with my rockstars, although I do love a slowburn. I just wasn’t expecting one.

The OW. It was a bit too angsty for me. I could have done without it. I hate stories where I worry about minors.

And lastly, this could just be me, but I wasn’t quite sure why they were so smitten with each other. The hoodie stuff was cute but I felt like their depth of feeling wasn’t based on a huge amount of getting to know each other. I think I would have liked to stretch out the bit where they were friends texting so I felt more of a growth of feeling.

But these are small niggles. A lot I know, but I still liked the book. I’ll probably read the rest of the series as Dani’s story sounds great. I’ve read a tonne of rockstar romances (40) and this series will just add to the pile! Hopefully the next one will be a little steamier and less chaste.
