Margaret McNamara is the Christopher Award–winning author of more than two dozen books for young readers, including the Robin Hill School series. The Fairy Bell Sisters series is inspired not only by her love of the classic sisterhood novel Little Women but by her own experiences growing up with older sisters (and a baby brother). Margaret and her family live in New York City, but they spend part of their summer on an island in Maine very much like Sheepskerry Island.
Katie and her classmates prepare to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. But when her teacher Mrs. Connor brings a different shaped shamrock, Katie is confused by the ones she made for her classmates.
This is a fascinating story about St. Patrick's Day and demonstrates the difference between the traditional shamrock and a four-leaf clover. It's a good book for beginning readers and, of course, perfect for reading for St. Patrick's Day. It's one of many books in the Robin Hill School series by Margaret McNamara and Mike Gordon. We enjoyed reading this book together.
This beginning chapter book explains, in story form, what a shamrock is and how it is different from a four-leaf clover. This would be good for classrooms learning about the traditions of St. Patrick's Day. It doesn't tell about the origins of the holiday, but is a fun way to teach about shamrocks and "being lucky".
3.5 Stars This was a nice early reader about St. Patrick's Day. I got a little confused about 4 leaf clovers and Shamrocks and this book confused me more or I would have given it 4 stars. Still very festive!
I use this one for my St. Patrick's Day storytime every year, and find it to be a fun little read. As a result of this book, I now know to get actual shamrocks painted on my toenails in March and not four leaf clovers. :)
