No-One Ever Has Sex #4

No-One Ever Has Sex at a Wedding

Rate this book
In Katy’s opinion, weddings should follow some basic rules:

1) No-one should ever have sex. Of course. The married couple has the rest of their lives for that, and the guests should be too busy partying.

2) If you are heavily pregnant (as Katy is) you should obviously not be invited to three weddings in the space of one summer. Your husband’s accident-prone best friend, your attention-seeking colleague, your 73-year-old mother’s marriage to her Spanish toy boy – all without even an alcoholic drink to make them bearable.

3) During the speeches, it should not be revealed that you had a secret one-night-stand with one of the other guests.

4) Instead of laying bets on the length of the best man’s speech, guests should not be laying bets on whether a marriage will be in ruins before the end of the meal…

But this summer, Katy is lucky enough to be the special guest at the weddings that break ALL of the rules. What could possibly go wrong?

From the no. 1 bestselling author of No-one Ever Has Sex on a Tuesday, this book will make you laugh until you cry. Perfect for fans of Nick Spalding, Marian Keyes and Gill Sims.

This book made me laugh, out loud and then re read certain things so I could laugh out loud again
This is the 5th in the ‘No One Has Sex’ series and the first I have read, ( although read others by this author ) but that mattered not a jot as the book is a total stand alone....that does leave you wanting to read the other 4 though got to say
The book starts at a wedding!!where the groom in his speech inadvertently lets the cat out of the bag that one of the guests had a one night stand with one of the other guests 5 years ago at a school reunion....their partners at the time are still their partners, and at the wedding....and so the book continues on a romp through the main characters lives and how they ‘get over’ this and how ultimately the only way to resolve this is.....another wedding, but the pandemonium and farce to get there is magical and hilarious
There is a scene where one of the cast’s Mum‘s has a FaceTime chat with her son and its just the funniest thing ever, honestly
Be prepared to bellyache laugh at the antics that happen in this book and the humour between them all
There are also touching moments in the book and real life situations that are dealt with and combined with the fun ( have I said its funny yet? ) makes just the perfect book for most anyone at any time
The writing is so accurate to life its genius
Loved every page 😃😃😃😃😃

No-one Ever Has Sex at a Wedding by Tracy Bloom is the fourth book in the No-one Ever Has Sex romantic comedy series. This is a continuing series about a group of friends and their lives so the best way to enjoy them would be starting with the first book, No-One Ever Has Sex On A Tuesday. However, I actually joined this series at book three and still found it hilarious so I definitely wanted to return for book four knowing there may be some back story I may have missed.

This series is not just about one couple but several friends and their relationships with one another so the point of view does switch between a few characters. In this installment all of the laughs come from our characters having to attend several weddings. As most would know things rarely go as planned and that definitely holds true in this story.

When reading the third book of this series I remember having the thought that these people sure are a hot mess… but such a hysterical hot mess that I couldn’t put it down. Well, things have not changed a bit and the author again has done a great job tossing problems at the cast of characters and letting them deal with them in a humorous manor keeping a smile on a readers face and plenty of laughs on hand all throughout.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

DNF at 25%.
First of all, this is the fourth book in a series and I was unaware of that. I felt lost pretty quickly because there's a lot of backstory I didn't know from the first three books. Secondly, Braindead? It's a funny nickname for half a second. To actually stick with the name for all conversations and references is incredibly annoying and got old very quickly. Establish that it's his nickname but refer to him by his actual name. Also, who asks the registrar about if sex is necessary on the wedding night DURING THE WEDDING in front of all the guests?? No characters were the least bit likable in the 50 plus pages that I read and the writing seemed slogged down. I see no point in continuing to read a book I'm not enjoying.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this digital arc.

I will begin this review with the disclosure that I haven't read any of the other books in the No-one Ever Has Sex... series by Tracy Bloom. Would it make a difference?

I understand why people are drawn to books like this: They are an easy read, they are entertaining and, at times, quite funny; what I tend to call 'popcorn for the brain'. This isn't a terrible book by any means but its attempts at humor through presenting completely ridiculous and unfathomable scenarios grated on me over time. Who in their right mind would (audibly) ask the registrar at the top of the alter, during his wedding ceremony, if he needs to have sex with his new wife on their wedding night to legally seal the deal on his marriage? Or reveal in his wedding speech in front of all of his and his wife's family and friends that his best man's wife slept with an old boyfriend at their high school reunion? At these points, 'funny' just became bizarre.

With an unrealistic series of events and characters that are not at all likable, this book wasn't for me, unfortunately. For the few giggles I had, I am giving it 1.5 stars.

I'd like to thank NetGalley for this digital ARC in an exchange for an honest review.

First of all, this is the fourth book in a series and I didn't know it, but I didn't have major problems trying to understand the story as standalone. I liked this book, but not so much as I wished to. It's not a serious read and I wasn't expecting that either, this book is really fun and that's why I like it.

But also, I felt some problems with it and that's why I didn't enjoy entirely. One of the main characters kept being called Braindead and so I was always forgetting his real name because of it (I think it's Craig, right?). And I could only connect to Katy and Alison in some way as characters, the others didn't feel real. Especially after I discovered they're in their fourties, but their attitude was so like teenager or at least early twenties. And many of their attitude made me sigh "Poor Katy" so many times.

Another absolutely fabulous book in this always entertaining series. I couldn't put this down and read it in about 3 hours flat, while jetlagged, and was completely amused by all of it.

It was a sheer pleasure to be among the antics of Katy, Ben, Matthew, Alison, Braindead and Daniel, in a book featuring 3 weddings, some fairly memorable speeches and moments. Some utter hilarity and also some rather touching moments.

If you have never read a No-One Has Sex Book before, then besides missing out on a fabulous series, you should be reassured to know most of the key plot points from them are revised briefly during this story, as the first disastrous speech take in an ongoing story from the first book in the series. I'm too deep into my enjoyment of the series to objectively state if it can be read as a standalone, but why miss out on hours of enjoyment?

There was nothing that I didn't like in this book, it was fabulous. The story is very easy to follow and flows smoothly. The writing is entertaining, the dialogue witty. I loved the chapters focusing on different characters, all with headers to make it clear who you are with. It was great to see a bit more into the minds of the men in this series.

Braindead really is just that at times, and it is he who has some of the best lines of the book, I love this guy, even if his mouth and brain never seem to connect to each other!

I can't get over how much this book just hit the right spot for me, made me forget that I was feeling iffy, and I was able to get completely into the story. Easily my favourite book from Tracy Bloom so far.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I did not realize this was the fourth book in a series. The description of the book sounded like it would be a fun and humorous read. I was wrong. The book is fine as a standalone and I have no interest in reading the previous books. The amount of times I had to read the word Braindead, too many to count. Why not just call the man Craig? the nickname got old very quick. Not to mention but Braindead was the worst character. Who asks the minister/preacher/priest/person officiating your wedding if you need to have sex to make the marriage legal????!!!! Then the speech. Who keeps bringing up an affair that happened five years ago???? Ben forgave his wife so why is his best friend constantly bringing it up. Braindead's excuse for no sex during his honeymoon was also laughable. All the characters acted more like they were in high school instead of being in their thirties or forties. Then there was Erica's declaration of love. Seriously??!!! The story and characters were just not my cup of tea. I thought the book was going to be about Kate at three different weddings, but pretty much centered around Braindead's horrendous wedding day. The last two were just thrown in at the end. What was with the the circus tent??!! Nothing says I'm sorry like a clown being shot out of a cannon. The book just didn't live up to its description.

I only recommend the book if you read the previous books in the series and you enjoyed them. This book just wasn't for me.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bookouture through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Katy is pregnant with her second child and has a problem - there are not only many weddings looming in the future, but Braindead had inadvertently, during his groom speech at his wedding, let the cat out of the bag about the situation that has happened many years ago, and now Alison has kicked Matthew out. So it's not only that all the friends feel obliged to bring them back together, there is also the joint wedding of Daniel and her own mother. Oh boy.

Dreams comes true, ha? So many of the readers always wanted to read more about Braindead and here we are. "No - One Ever Has Sex at a Wedding" follows the group of our old friends but while the other books were mostly about Katy and Ben, here the author focuses on the other characters as well, and you know what? I really enjoyed it. I've got my dose of Katy and Ben but I also satisfied my curiosity when it comes to Matthew, Alison, Braindead, Daniel and co. This time Alison kicks Matthew out and everybody feels obliged to help them see the sense. Each of the characters is involved - Katy because she feels guilty, Ben because he has no other option, Daniel because he loves to be the centre of attention, Ian because he wants to have his flat for himself again, Braindead because he was the reason Alison found out and, as you can expect, chaos arises. But it's a brilliant chaos, funny and heart-warming, and while it may not be a read that's going to stay with you for long, it's a pure entertainment.

This is already a fourth book in the No - One Ever Has Sex and I am not sure if I would advise you to read it as a stand - alone. Simply, you'd miss too much on brilliant reads, but also, even though the most of the key plots from the previous reads are mentioned briefly, I still think that to fully enjoy the story and understand the characters (I've noticed some of the reviewers were annoyed with the nickname "Braindead" for example - but those were the ones who haven't read the previous books before) you should read the books in the right order.

It was a quick, entertaining read that was like a sitcom. There weren't many detailed descriptions and the events were happening one after another without long and unnecessary introductions, it was more dialogue - orientated and believe me, there were some brilliant conversations throughout the story, the banter was quick, sharp and hilarious. However, guys, this book is not only laugh, there are also some more poignant moments and I liked how the author balanced those moments. Some of the speeches were simply beautiful and unforgettable.
Altogether, "No - One Ever Has Sex at a Wedding" was a funny, undemanding read with a hidden depth, full of shenanigans and embarrassing situations about families, relationships and great friendship, about sticking together through thick and thin. Truly recommended!

Another hilarious addition to the No-One Ever Has Sex series.
Katy and Matthew's indiscretion manages to cloud the nuptials of Ben's best friend Braindead, to Abby, causing a lack of bedroom action between newlyweds, and angst in Wedded Bliss Land, too.
To top it off, Katy's Mum is getting married, and so is her best friend, Daniel, to her step-dad-to-be's son!
Following?
Such a fun read!

First, I need to mention that I didn’t realise this was a series until I started reading. This caused me some confusion as I didn’t know the backstories; this may have caused it to lose a star.

The premis was enjoyable, but it all felt cliched; smart friend who has a hard time understanding emotions and says the wrong things? Check. Understanding good guy? Check. Guy who made a mistake, but then has a sudden realization? Check. Over the top gay bestie? Check.

Also, these characters annoyed me.

Another easy read, a continuation on the last book but one of the names of a character completely changed. They always used a nickname and despite his real name being mentioned in the last book, they completely changed his real name this time. So weird.

There were some funny parts in it but I felt it dragged a bit in the middle and some of the characters made it annoying. Having said that it is a light hearted read and a break from my usual genre.

For all my reviews: https://ahavenforbooklovers.wordpress...

I read Tracy Bloom’s ‘Dinner’ Party’ and fell in love with the author’s writing.

The title of this book grabbed my attention. It made me chuckle as it reminded me of my wedding night last month. I was so tired, dead on my feet; almost fell asleep in the shower. Needless to say, expensive hotel and new lingerie notwithstanding, sleep won. So, does anyone have sex at weddings?

This book introduces us to a small group of friends. Craig (Braindead) and Abby are getting married. Ben and his wife, Katy, have a role to play at the wedding. Mathew and Alison were guests invited by Craig. This was a terrible idea because their presence led to a catastrophe at the wedding. Apart from the three, there is also Daniel and Gabriel who are a couple and then Craig’s sister, Erica and Mathew’s friend, Ian. This may seem like too many characters but they aren’t. Some play minor roles while others like Katy and Mathew are in the lead roles. In addition, the author portrays them so uniquely that you won’t get confused about who is who. If anything, I feel like I knew all of them, like we could be friends.

This story is relatable. There are so many times that I felt like the author described scenes and emotions that I didn’t have the words for. For instance, she talks about how weddings reveal who we are, who our friends are and where different people stand in our lives. There are friends that I could have sworn had my back 100% before the wedding. Sadly, I even lost a close friend in January. Anyway, I digress. Let me just say that Tracy really did capture the mood and reality of weddings from the joy to the nervousness and all the other drama.

This story was also hilarious without trying too hard. There were a couple of scenes that had me laughing out loud. I must have won a goofy smile while reading some of the chapters.

On the other side, this isn’t a fluffy read. Yes, it will make you laugh but it might also make you cry. The story looks at different issues in marriages, one of them being forgiveness. At what cost does forgiveness come? I also enjoyed the theme of friendship and how it was portrayed by different pairs. We all need genuine friendships.

As you can tell by now, I enjoyed this book. No-one ever has sex at a wedding by Tracy Bloom is well-written, funny, engrossing, relatable and will also tug at your heartstrings. It is also quite memorable. I will be thinking about the characters for quite some time.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture the publisher for providing me with an E-ARC of this in exchange for an honest review.
When I saw this listed on Netgalley, I had no idea that it was in fact the 4th in a series! although I do feel like this could actually be read as a standalone.

I was drawn in by the name of the novel- I mean come on “No-one Ever has Sex at a Wedding” does sound like it could be hilarious, unfortunately I felt like this was missing something.

Don’t get me wrong I thought that this would be a fine book to read on a flight or just relaxing with a bottle of wine, there were some funny moments but nothing that made me crack up laughing.

Unfortunately there didn’t seem to be very much going on throughout the book aside from Katy complaining about weddings during the summer and being pregnant (although I really can’t blame her for that), Daniel being over the top and a bit self obsessed, and “Braindead” (aka Craig) being, well, himself.

Braindead- well let’s be honest, that nickname got very boring – very fast, his character was clearly the lovable and slightly clueless one of the group- I mean who asks the registrar (during the wedding ceremony) if you have to have sex on your wedding day to make it legally binding?, I just wish they stopped constantly referring to him as his nickname, as that is something you would expect from a group in their early 20s.
Although I think maybe the nickname was warranted when he inadvertently ruined someone elses wedding on his own wedding day.

There were a few sweet moments, the wedding, and not so wedding speeches were definitely some of my favourites. I loved the spotlight onto platonic and familial love as well as romantic as they are every bit as important.

Oh and if anyone is wondering, no you do not have to have sex on your wedding day to make it legally binding, Tracy Bloom did her research on that matter.
So hey at least there is no pressure there because who really has the energy to have sex after their wedding?

This is book #4 in the ‘No One Ever Has Sex….’ Series. It can be read as a standalone book and you don’t need to have read the previous books in the series as everything is so nicely explained. However, I would recommend that you do read the other books because…..why wouldn’t you want to!!

We are back with the gang – Katy and Ben, Matthew and Alison, Braindead and Abby and Daniel. It begins at Braindead’s wedding to Abby. Braindead, living up to his name, makes a faux pas in his groom’s speech and lets slip about Katy and Matthew’s one night stand 5 years before. Unfortunately, Matthew’s wife Alison didn’t know and consequently kicked Matthew out when she worked out who Braindead was talking about. From there on, the only way to save Matthew’s marriage and to absolve Katy and Braindead from their guilt is to plan and attend another wedding!

I love this series, and have enjoyed the other books in the series. I thought this one was the best one of the series, and I was instantly dragged back into the gang right from the first page! All the characters are fabulous and I have laughed out loud all the way through this book! Braindead’s wedding was so cleverly written and I loved every single bit of it right from their cravats to his insecurities about whether they were actually married through to putting Abby to bed still in her wedding dress!!

It is a very funny book but amongst all the laughs there is also a serious story going on about friendships, love, infidelity and forgiveness, making this a lovely heart-warming romantic comedy. The book was an easy, quick read and the writing made it an absolute pleasure to read! All of the characters were fabulous (with Braindead being my particular favourite!) and I loved the close bond that they all had between them. It was the ideal book if you want to be left with a warm feeling in your heart, a smile on your face and sides that have been split from laughing too much! Would definitely recommend!!

It's silly. It put a smile on my face several times. It's a perfect light read for spring break or summer vacation. It's not great literature and of the genre, I wouldn't say it's the best I've read but it's cute. No-one Ever Has Sex at a Wedding is part of a series by Tracy Bloom. This is the first I've read of the series and it certainly stands alone and gives enough pertinent backstory that I never felt lost. Ben and Katy are married and expecting their second child. At a wedding of close friends Braindead and Abby (that's not a typo - that's what they call him and honestly, they only use his real name once or twice so I don't remember it), Braindead accidentally references when Katy cheated on Ben when they were dating. No big deal, that was the premise of an earlier book in the series and Ben already knew. Phew! Except that Matthew, the man Katy cheated with, is also at the wedding. With his wife. Who knew nothing about it. Matthew and Alison were going to sneak out of the wedding reception and have sex (four kids at home - alone time is scarce!) but...no-one ever has sex at a wedding. The drama ensues as Alison pieces it together and we're off and running. Some of it is predictable and some of it is adorable - and of course, it's all about getting Matthew and Alison past this horrible revelation that could destroy their marriage.

Honestly, if I'm going to read a British, light-hearted comedy, I'm going with Mike Gayle. A little more heart and warmth.

Thanks to NetGalley for the free e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I've absolutely loved the 'No-One Ever' series so far, and I was excited to read this one and catch up with the wonderful Ben and Katy and their beloved cast of family and friends as they venture into more funny mishaps (this time, focused on weddings). Ben's best friend Craig (aka 'Braindead') is getting married to the lovely Abby, and this are running smoothly until he lets slip a well-kept secret that threatens to end the marriage of friends Matthew and Alison. And that's not the only wedding trouble for poor Katy, who not only has to try and help mend ex-boyfriend Matthew's relationship, but also assist with pal Daniel's upcoming nuptials.

Whilst I enjoyed this book as a light, quick read, I just don't think it was as funny as the previous books in the series. This one focused less on Katy and Ben and more about everyone else's marital woes, which to me seemed grating (though this could be down to personal preference). I think it just lacked something that the previous books had, that's all. A lot of this book was dialogue; some of the later chapters relied mainly on characters just talking about their relationships which became a bit tedious after a while.

That said, this is still a fun addition to the series (although if you haven't read the previous books, you probably won't have a clue what's going on. But if you haven't and you want something sweet, charming and downright funny I'd totally recommend reading from the beginning as the others are fab.)

Braindead. Who on earth would you ever call that? Braindead is really Craig who is a very loveable character however I could totally see by 4 chapters in why he had been given this name many years before. I haven’t read the others in the series and so didn’t know the background to this but I don’t believe it marred it in any way. Braindead and Abby are getting married. Ben is the best man and his pregnant wife Katy is the honorary mother of the groom as Craig lost his mother many years before hand. The plot centres around various weddings and a speech that goes spectacularly wrong. I would recommend this read for anyone of that age where weddings are a plenty and young family are around. For the rest of us, I really got rather bored at Katy “being 4 months pregnant and having to negotiate her way out of a chair” - at 4 months whilst others are running and swimming etc?? Ok so that’s my one small moan over. The rest of it was a fun, lighthearted read that left me with a smile. I did like Braindead, despite everything he came across as a thoroughly nice bloke. think four wedding and a funeral without the last bit-although is someone’s speech’s continue that could be the next in the series!

I used to read lots of chicklit a few years ago and then suddenly thrillers were my top one reads. Now I am still enjoying both genres. It’s nice to devour a feel good book where people only want to kill each other virtually from time to time and the time was now. 😊

At first I did not know it was part of a series, but I had no problem reading this as a standalone. Of course you don’t have every detail about the backstories and it makes me anxious to read them too. I can’t help it. I just want to know everything 😉. The author gives the right amount of information so I never had the ‘what?’ or ‘How so?’ kind of feeling.

When you make a mistake, you often regret it afterwards, but nobody is able to turn back the clock. It would be nice if we could, wouldn’t it, but now you have two choices because you know you have hurt others, loved ones…

So either you bite the bullet, come clean and face the music or you keep quiet and hope the secret will remain just that: a secret. And then, undeliberately someone lets the cat out of the bag…

Having a nickname can be quite funny and no matter how old you get or wherever you are, it will stick. 😊

I enjoyed this story a lot. Having a perfect wedding certainly is a lot easier than having a perfect marriage. 5 stars

My thanks to Bookouture for an eARC via NetGalley of Tracy Bloom’s latest in exchange for an honest review.

When the groom’s speech at a wedding inadvertently reveals a secret, it sets off a series of upsets. In addition its main character, Katy, who is pregnant, is coping with her mother getting remarried and her gay best friend’s nuptials. The narrative moves between various characters perspectives.

I hadn’t realised that this was the fourth in an ongoing series featuring Katy and her friends and as a result I felt a bit like a guest at a party where everyone knows each other and I am wandering about feeling a bit lost catching tidbits of conversation. I did manage to discover that the revealed secret dates back to Book 1 in the series.

This was an easy read that definitely had its funny and insightful moments. Yet I found that I wasn’t really that invested in the characters. I also probably would class it as a comedy-drama given some of its themes.

I have a number of friends who do enjoy ‘chick-lit’ and will recommend this series to them, though they may already be fans.

I wanted to read this book because I was looking for something funny. I would love to find another comedy like This Is Where I Leave You. I don’t think this book was at that level but there were some humorous parts, especially at the beginning.

This was the fourth book in a series. I didn’t find that an issue. There was not a lot of characters to get to know and the plot is pretty straight forward. However, it is always my preference to read a series in order.

I did not like the character, Braindead. That nickname was used throughout the whole book and I found it annoying. His character was not likable. The things he said and did were extremely stupid. But, I can see how it was necessary for the author to get laughs.

I would only recommend this book if you are looking for something funny. It was not a thought-provoking book. The characters were very shallow.

No One Ever Has Sex at a Wedding is most definitely a funny book. It tells the story of a group of friends who attend a wedding, only to have a marital indiscretion revealed during one of the wedding speeches. What ensues is a wild ride about the aftermath of this revelation, told from multiple points of view.

While I really enjoyed the writing style, and the humor throughout the book, I personally had some difficulty enjoying the main storyline - that one of the characters cheated on his wife and attempted to hide that from her for years. He even continues to lie about it after the speech is given, and much of the book focuses on his attempts to win her back.

I would check out another book by this author in the future, because I really believe this is a storyline issue for me. I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, and I am glad I did because I laughed a lot while reading this book!

Amusing, lighthearted, quick and easy read. It was my first book by this author and it was not until I was reading about her other books at the end of this one, that I realised this was one of a series of books. This did not in any way detract from my enjoyment of the book and I did not feel in any way that I was playing catch-up or missing out, this worked really well as a stand-alone novel.
This title sums up so much of what this book is about; the author then fills in the reasons why! Each of the chapters of the book are written from the point of view of one of the main characters. Although a few of them have done a few dubious things, I did not find any of them unbearable, and as each chapter is quite short, it soon moves onto the next character in any event!
I would recommend this book as a great easy weekend read.
Thanks to NetGalley for a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love this series by Tracy Bloom and No-one Ever Has Sex At A Wedding didn’t disapoint.

It starts at the wedding of Braindead (aka Craig) who is my favourite character from the series. He is intelligent, kind, funny and brutally honest. His speech (which he mainly dedicated to his best man Ben) was priceless and unfortunately for Ben’s wife Katy he accidently let slip a huge secret. Something that Katy had hoped was buried very firmly in the past.

The book works fine as a stand alone but I would recommend that you read the previous books because previous events are quite pivotal to this story. It is a lightweight, easy read with some really funny moments and a cast of characters who are hugely relatable. Some deeper issues are covered but on the whole this is a witty peek into the area of marriage, friendship and relationships.

If you love books about weddings you will love this one!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I did not realize this book was the 4th in a series, but Bloom was so great and the character descriptions that I had no idea until I finished the book! When I first started the book I thought I wasn't going to finish it. I felt it started off as a bit childish the way it was written. The character being nicknamed Braindead was obviously accurate but the constant reference of that nickname was getting tiresome. Some could have called him by his given name. That was my only real gripe about this book. The story itself was lovely.....being that marriage is hard work and forgiveness is also needed in marriage. The friendships of the characters felt real as well. I really enjoyed this novel and definitely will read Bloom's other books.
