What. The. Crap.

This was horrendous. Worst book of 2024 so far and I dread any book that tops it. Between unlikeable characters, horrible grammar and a book that goes on so much longer than it needs to, it's hard to know where to start. So let's go in order shall we?

Grammar:
I say this first because I noticed it before anything particularly horrible happened. But in what universe is it okay for published fiction that isn't on Wattpad written by teenage fangirls to include in dialogue "???" or "!!!" instead of "?" or "!"? Like please stop.

Characters:
Okay so when I say characters I'm being generous. It's two characters and one so much more than the other. So Missy, our beloved main character, has main character syndrome. She spends the entire book sulking and ignoring Chas, her boyfriend, because he SMILED at another woman. She starts ignoring him, not responding to texts, not answering calls, and then her heart feels like "it was shattered in a million pieces" because he's distant and didn't check on her. Girl, he did check on you. And you ignored him. So of course he's going to be distant because he's probably hurt by your behaviour. Which is so wrong because this is how bratty teenagers react, and Missy is over 40 years old. GROW THE CRAP UP.
Then everything goes back to normal, mystery solved, more dramatic happenings ensue because we apparently are supposed to care about the characters outside of the mystery (I don't but I digress), and she STARTS DOING IT AGAIN. She decides that because Chas has now come into money he's going to dump her for someone better. I WISH HE WOULD. CHAS DESERVES BETTER. JUSTICE FOR CHAS. SAVE HIM.
As for the other character, it's a random side character who's supposed to be a Hollywood celebrity who has an attitude like one but she comes off as psychotic stalker instead of spoiled brat. And it was hard to place her age when most of her scenes play her off as a deranged five year old.

I hated this. And I don't honestly know if I want to continue this series. If it was one or two more books I'd force myself to but it's like 40 books in one series, and then there's like 4 spin-offs.

Film star Ivana Cherie is coming to town to make a movie and Missy has been commissioned to bake her 3 special cupcakes per day. Things get off to a rocky start the first day when Missy delivers the first batch of cupcakes, but fails to recognize a mud-pack faced Ivana Cherie. Ms. Cherie is extremely rude and had it not been for the fact that Missy had signed a contract for the cupcakes, she would have told the diva where to get off. On her way back to her car, Missy bumps into Ian Carson, another star in the movie. Ian is as pleasant as Ivana was unpleasant, inviting Missy to came back any time.

When Ian is killed, Missy has another unpleasant encounter with Ms. Cherie, when she is 37 seconds late delivering the cupcakes. They are supposed to be here at 9:00 AM SHARP!! Detective Chas Beckett had accompanied Missy to deliver the cupcakes and when Ivana sees him, her attitude is suddenly all sweet and nice.

Who killed Ian? Will Chas be swayed by Ivana's sweet antics? Will Ivana come between Chas and Missy? Can Missy solve the mystery and uncover the killer?

This story is fast paced with a surprise killer, but it does not end there. There are additional surprises in store for the reader which will leave you looking for more books in the series.

This book was formerly known as “Cereal Cupcake Murder” until the author-ess changed it.

"After the murder, Ivana went on the warpath against Missy, blaming her for Ian’s death to anyone who would stand still long enough to listen. She’d concocted an elaborate story which she felt fully explained Missy’s motives, method and madness, and spread the tale far and wide."

And yet Ivana still accepts Missy's cupcakes and happily eats them. If Ivana honestly believed Missy was a killer, she would stay far away from her and definitely wouldn't eat anything she made!

And why does Ivana seem to know so much about motives and method regarding this murder? Like, a little bit too much. Perhaps Ivana is the real killer.
Hopefully Ivana doesn't poison her own cupcake to make herself just sick enough but not dead and blame that on Missy, too.

Missy discovers something pretty spectacular about Chas in this read - something that will have tongues wagging in a 1,000 mile radius.

And here's something for the readers of this series to make things interesting: every time Missy cries or tears up, have a drink. That'll be fun! Just don't drive!

Next is book 12 of 32 Plain Vanilla Murder.

How exciting, a movie is being made near town and the star hires Missy to make her 3 cupcakes a day with very specific instructions. Star is really obnoxious, but Missy meets her co-star who becomes a friend and lets her stick around to watch them make the movie, sounds interesting right but it gets a whole lot crazy fast when one of the stars is killed and they are framing Missy as the killer, Chas is working the case, but the female lead has decided to take Chas away for herself. Chaos ensues, there is an attempted murder and again Missy is the main suspect, so many shocking surprises and so much craziness it's hard to tell who the killer really is but yet another surprise sheds new light on the whole situation and the killer is found but Chas suffers a loss. Great read, surprising ending.

Detective mystery

Missy has a bakery renowned for its cupcakes and a film star loves cupcakes so her assistant rang to say they would be filming in the area and to take 3 differently to flavours of cupcakes to the set daily and quoted a figure that was more than worth effort involved. Missy's man is a local cop but he seems to have eyes on the nasty diva and when a murder takes place on set Missy has to solve it to clear her name

Being a detective can hurt.

Missy has a deal of a lifetime cupcake deal but it comes with a price a over the top diva actress. Missy has no idea what she's gotten herself into. When a death occurs her boyfriend who is the Detective plays a role of being infatuated with the diva and Missy is worried she lost him. Silly girl!

Enjoyed this story! I’m loving the relationship development between Missy and Chas, and Missy’s insecurities with Chas and his family life and money. Makes things seem more real. Can’t wait to read the next install!

Missy now has a film crew in town filming a horror movie. As we all can guess things go horribly awry and Missy is the prime suspect again. Unique storyline but was so fast paced you never really got to know the other characters.

It's been a little while since I read this series and I forgot how much I enjoyed it. This book the mystery was a little overshadowed by the drama between Chas and Missy. It was a fun story with a character you love to hate. The way that Missy is involved is interesting, to say the least.

Missy didn't really investigate much this book but we say many of our favourite reoccurring characters.

My only real issue with this book was the ending felt a little rushed and I felt like it could have been given a book on its own even if it was a non-mystery book.

Overall I really enjoyed this book.

Freakishly Murder-Wonderful

Boy, I didn't think our girl would get out of this murder mystery without having the book thrown at her, but she did! Just couldn't put this book down, I had to find out what happened next. I still love the new cupcakes she comes up with and all her friends and employees. Chas is one hunky guy and loves her to pieces, even when he had to pretend not to and risk breaking her heart. It all comes out right in the end and leaves you feeling good and wanting more.

This was excelllent! I really enjoyed the mystery surrounding the arrival in town of a Movie Production company and the murder of the lead actor in the movie. So imagine my surprise to discover this morning that this book has now been removed from circulation and will be redone to be released again next Thursday! I will again get the latest version, and see if there is something new, but either way, this is one I am sure you will all love!

Another fun addition to the series. This time the story involves Missy providing cupcakes to a Hollywood diva and the cast for a production that is using the Louisiana area for filming.
Missy just can't believe that Chas has eyes only for her when he has to investigate a murder on the set. They are such a cute couple and I love the direction their relationship is turning.
A great fun Cozy Mystery Series.

Movie star worthy

This book takes you on a whirlwind of movie stars and rich people, but doesn't leave out the murder and suspense of trying to figure out who did what!

I figured it out. It's the lack of setting and stilted dialogue. I'm finally giving up on this series.
