Michael Bond, CBE was an English children's author. He was the creator of Paddington Bear and wrote about the adventures of a guinea pig named Olga da Polga, as well as the animated BBC TV series The Herbs. Bond also wrote culinary mystery stories for adults featuring Monsieur Pamplemousse and his faithful bloodhound, Pommes Frites.
You can't help but like Paddington, especially when he has an outing to Hampstead Fair and enjoys himself on the attractions there.
He tries his paw at the coconut shy at first with no success but when he stands on his case (with the marmalade sandwiches inside) he wins a picture of a goldfish, which he decides to name Hampstead in honour of the day, and a china bird for the wall.
He also has a go on the helter-skelter and while he is okay, others n the ride get stuck due to his baggage, or more appropriately what is in it! He moves on to a ride in a space craft and ends up feeling rather queasy before seeing a fortune teller who prophecies, correctly, that she seea a bear who will have a long sleep that night!
Paddington at the Fair Plot: Pretty simple plot. Paddington gets to go to the fair for the first time and by the end of the day he’s exhausted.
My Thoughts: I think the fun part of this book is taking something (like a fair) and seeing it through the eyes of someone that’s never experienced it before. It’s kind of like I relate it to when I’ve gone to the Magic Kingdom (or Orlando) and I go to a park that’s been there a while and that other’s may have gone to several times. It’s just that wonder that comes with experiencing something for the first time. As always, a cute read! It’s a bed time read or a car trip read for a 3 or 4-year-old.
Rating: 5 (Mostly 5’s in regular books are average but this is a good score for a kid’s book like this).
