Jesus Christ, Son of Man: The Early Years
The third volume in this popular series chronicles the final week of the life of Jesus Christ in magnificent paintings and inspiring text. With pen and brush, author and artist combine talents to portray the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, his sufferings for the sins of mankind, and his glorious resurrection. In so doing, they share a significant and marvelous account of the ministry of the Son of God.
Author Susan Easton Black and artist Liz Lemon Swindle once again share an artistic narrative glimpse of the mortal ministry of Jesus Christ. They chronicle how he took upon himself the sorrows of humankind and overcame death. They depict familiar Bible scenes but also share a vision of Christ as a legend, a revolutionary, and a man who walked the earth and lived as part of his native community. King of Kings is ultimately a story of love, forgiveness, and redemption.

Exquisite artwork is presented in this book about the early years of Jesus Christ. This little book provides information about the life of Christ, based on scripture, history, and apocryphal stories. It would be interesting to know more about the bibliography and citations associated with the historical material related to Christ's life and the Jewish history and traditions of the time. It provides a lovely introduction to Christ's early years for younger readers (and also adults).

Though beautifully illustrated, the childhood of Jesus was explained as by the Bible. Missing the theory behind her assumptions and Jewish explanations. And then there is the jump after Jesus' 12 year old visiting the temple in the third and final chapter through His teenyears that come with much more speculation. I did like the first 2 chapters.
I do not like the speculation and myth forming around His being.

The writing and the illustrations are so wonderful. Do yourself a favor and get and read and enjoy the art of all three books in the series. I reread these books every year.

I have grown up hearing about Christ and His life from infancy to adulthood to the time he was crucified. This book put His life into a new light for me. The text is not for children. It is a lot of text and very long so older ages such as middle school and up should read it. It is a picture book though. The pictures are what stood out to me the most. It shows Christ as a baby, toddler, teen, and adult. I loved seeing Mary hold her son and kiss him just like any mother would with their child. It showed a picture of Christ learning to walk and that made the story seem so much more real and made me think of Christ as a person who had to grow up just like me instead of being just the Son of God. I think it is heartwarming and is truly a beautiful book to share with others. I might even buy it and send it to my mom!

Informative and tenderly written read. My only qualm is there are no references to sources given. I enjoy being able to retrace the steps of scholars. However I can let this matter go as the book is more meant to be read as a coffee table book than a research report. I love the beautiful illlustrations included as well. I also praticularly enjoyed how the author focuses the book on Christ's childhood and then ends the book by telling about how He blessed the lives of children and reminded us to do the same. This book makes for a great one to have out to read during Christmas as I gained new insight into the events surrounding the Savior's birth I was not aware of. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

Rarely do I have picture books touch me so deeply. This is not a regular children's picture book. This has drawings and paintings of Jesus on almost every other page. Each picture is so beautiful and detailed you spend the majority of the time simply looking at them.
Yes the pictures are beautiful, but the story is as well. Everyone knows of Jesus's birth, his ministry and his death and then resurrection, but this story tells what happens between his birth and ministry, a time period I feel we often forget. This book made me think about the story of Jesus Christ in a way I haven't really considered before. I hope you enjoy it as much as I.
Have fun reading!

I received this book because I love the art work. The words are written by Susan Easton Black. It is really short and beautiful. You can't go wrong with the story of our savior.

Beautiful pictures. Not a children's book as the text is lengthy.
