The days of Homo sapiens are coming to an end. A new power is rising: Homo lupinus, the wolf man.
Leanna, the self-styled queen of the werewolves, marshals her forces ready for a great battle, gathering her soldiers into an iron fist.
The army strikes back, unleashing the devastating power of twenty-first century warfare.
But werewolves are not the only enemy. Wherever humans go, evil walks with them.
In the struggle for survival, strange alliances will be forged. The strong and the brave, the foolish and the wicked – all will play their part before the battle for London is over.
I struggled a little early on getting into this book despite skimming the last few chapters of the previous one (Wolf Blood) as a refresh. I’m putting it down to the usual wait between books because once I was several chapters in I was back and loving it. This is the third book and I am fully invested in both the story and the characters.
The story slowly continues and we follow all the main characters as tension mounts and war breaks out. The most intriguing character for me is Liz. What exactly is she? And why is she so different?
Now I’m just left waiting for the next book.
I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by the author.
Oh my god! What the hell have I just read? That was just beyond shocking and also so very deep! This book, like the last, carries straight on where the last one finished and has so many layers. This one leads us into the complete breakdown of civilisation, and it shows the hubris and megalomania on so many different levels and on all sides which hastened the full scale destruction and as you read you are walked down that path to destruction and oblivion and carefully given more details opening up more of the story with all the separate strands coming together and some snuffed out forever, in what was the longest book yet at over 400 pages long (and none of these books so far have been short).
This is clearly based in an alternate reality in complete fantasy and can be enjoyed on that superficial supernatural level with a lot of what happens as obviously Werewolves and other monsters are complete myth.
However, there is a deeper level, and it not only raises and asks the philosophical existential and theological questions but is also so believable it pulls you in. There are parts of the story which are taking place which are more than recognisable as they detail the less civilised aspects of human nature - aspects which very recently came all too apparent during the pandemic (albeit in this story it is highly exaggerated) and yet the parallels are undoubtedly there - but this story was published before the events of 2020 which also make it quite uncomfortable to read at times as it's unnerving familiarity with actual events which have since happened in the real world brings it home to you that deep down you know what human nature is capable of when push comes to shove and this story unflinchingly lays that out for you.
The characters and their individual stories alone makes this book great. Add to that the ongoing and ever growing mysteries and surprises of the “now supernatural communities” world wide makes this book awesome. But the good vs bad, dark vs light, and the roles that all characters play in it, make this book SPECTACULAR!!!! You truly brought something new to this genre and I’m anxiously waiting for book 4. Well.... guess I start over with book 1 and mind watch it back up to this point.
This book has you riveted from the start. You can't stop reading. If the supernatural is your thing, this is the book series for you. This needs to be a movie.
This is book three in the Lycanthropic series, and I couldn't be more thrilled with the progress. As the story progresses it just keeps getting better! I highly recommend this to any paranormal reader. It has a great story line, excitement and suspense. You can read this as a stand alone but it would be best to start at the beginning to have an understanding of some of the main characters. While the first two built the world into which the Wolf War happens, the third branches out and gives more background on the ever expanding cast of characters and manages to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire book. Book two finished with society realizing that we really should be scared of what might be out there going bump in the night. Book three is well into the war, society is town between wanting to be protected and loosing their rights. Neighborhoods fall and others band together, all while the wolves are planning their take over. The virus has spread to other countries and each one has become a island unto it's self, which just helps the wolf army. However there are those that are fighting back for their own reasons and others who are invested in the greater good. Betrayals, unusual alliances and hard decisions are the backbone of this story and I can not wait for the next installment!
Wolf War: The Twilight of Humanity is the 3rd book of the Lycanthropic series. Although the lycanthropes have supposedly spread out to the four corners of the earth, the series remains based in London. Humans are clinging to life as a new power--Homo lupinus, the lycanthrope--begins to take over. In a last ditch effort, the army strikes back, unleashing seven nuclear warheads over Britain in the hopes of wiping out the lycanthropes, altho the death toll of the human race is devastated--as is the landscape with landmark buildings that had withstood hundreds of years being reduced to rubble. Martial law has taken over and humans are struggling to survive in internment camps with too many people and not enough supplies.
I really enjoy this series, however, if you don't start from Book 1 (Wolf Blood), you can't fully appreciate or understand what is going on as the author doesn't bother to link information back to the previous 2 books and I imagine you would have to fumble around for a bit to understand what is going on, and what has already gone on, and there are so many characters that it is hard to play "catch up". This is the only reason I haven't given these books a 5 star rating.
I enjoyed the first two books but the storyline in this third book was just too far fetched. It's a shame as the author does a great job of building each character.
I have just finished reading the third in this gripping series, following on from Wolf Blood and Wolf War. I found the characters and their stories very compelling. Can’t wait for the forthcoming next episode.
