A Twist of Fate: True Mates Generations is FULL-LENGTH sexy shifter paranormal romance novel. It's a standalone novel with HEA, hot and sexy scenes, Lycan action and no cheating.
This isnt for me. It reads like a Disney channel special. All of the characters are blissfully ignorant of.... everything. The heroine is especially infuriating.
Small excerpt:
Heroine: “Zac, you and I move in different circles. You’re the Beta’s son, not to mention, your dad’s like a bajillionaire and your mom’s Cady Vrost, the most classy woman on the planet. You went to Harvard, then Oxford, and now you help run this huge company, not to mention, you’ll probably soon be second-in-command of the largest Lycan clan in the world.” Hero: “So?” Heroine: “So? I’m just a fuckup nobody. I dropped out of college after one semester, and I’ve been drifting from job to job, year after year, pretending I’m an adult.”
If dialogue like that doesnt make you want to roll your eyes.....
Yeah I like my female characters to be less... pathetic and boring. And of course you get all the usual tropes such as: -Hero with alot of sexual experience -Heroine that is in a perpetual dry spell for her entire life -Rich hero- poor heroine -Catty, cartoon OW that, of course, want the hero's attention and they make fun of the heroine.
Thank you, next.

Astrid Jonasson is the daughter of Lycan Meredith and Warlock, a hybrid she feels she is a disappointment since she’s not as powerful as her father or brother. Working as a bodyguard at a strip joint, something neither her pack nor her family know about, she finds herself in hot water and has no choice but to call her alpha. Her punishment for revealing herself to humans is one-year service with her pack’s Lycan security/guard – a ‘punishment’ that puts her in close vicinity to future Beta Zac Vrost. Zac may have not noticed her when she was younger, but now he can’t seem to keep away, and he refuses to let Astrid push him away. In order to get their HEA however, Zac and Astrid need to ensure their parents secrets do not shatter the bond they do not understand but ties them so tightly together and that they are not killed by their pack's enemies.
Astrid’s mum was rather amusing, and I will be going to see if Astrid’s parents’ book is on KU.
I’ve not read the series that comes before this, but this book can comfortably be read as a standalone. A quick, nice, light read.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋💋 Excellent beginning to the new spin off series. A new generation of True Mates is set to take the reigns , a new Alpha , Lupa , and Beta Who are they and what are their stories. I do love this series, interesting, exciting, addictive, and romantically hot . Zac Vrost is the Betas son , he’s about to meet his mate and his match . Astrid Jonasson is the daughter of Meridith and Daric the Warlock , she’s a hybrid, and even she doesn’t know completely how far her powers will stretch or what she can do . Don’t miss this next generation, it’s so good .
Wow. Oh my gosh. This book is the first one of a next Generation spinoff.
Zac is Nick and Cady's Vrost son that we were introduced to in Blood Moon. Astrid is Meredith and Daric's daughter that we were introduced to in Tempted by the Wolf.
Ok. So Zac and Astrid didn't run in the same circles growing up. But Astrid still had a crush on Zac. Something embarrassing happened when Astrid was 21. When an incident happens at one of Astrid's many jobs she's had years later and Zac finally notices her it's not surprising she is reluctant to have anything to do with him. Go get this book right now and find out how everything works out.
This is a stand alone and therefore can be read without reading the others. But Alicia is such a talented writer that I highly recommend all her books.
Big Mess, wrong place, right time ?! Astrid has a problem, unfortunately she can't fix it by herself. Help comes in the form of almost everyone, including her one time crush Zac. It's been years since they've seen on another. However the connection that sparks between them can't be denied, even as issues from the past, and self doubt affect there present. A great start to the next generation of True Mates.
Basic as a white girl drinking a pumpkin spice latte. It reads like a teenager wrote it. Basic characters. Basic dialogue. Basic conflict. Basic resolution. I finished it, but I doubt I’ll read any more in the series.
This was just ok. I found the external situation (shifters mages etc) to be interesting but the actual romance to be boring. She had a crush on him, he never noticed her. They run into each other, he wants get: she’s not sure, they sleep together, then they sleep together again. No real chemistry or build up between them at all. It’s eventually revealed that that they are true mates, she’s pregnant the end. No real angst, no passion, nothing special about either of them. They’ve both slept around but either seem like insane about it. Everything is just basic in this sort. Nothing seemed special when they got together at all. Just meh.
This is book 1 of a next generation of true mates. This is Zak ( Nick\Cady) son and Astrid ( Meredith\Darius) daughter a hybrid wolf . It's a fun new continuation of the original series with lots of magic and hot shifters.
A Twist if Fate is the first book in the True Mate Generations series, set within Ms. Montgomery’s True Mates world. Astrid is a hybrid, but lacks direction in her life. When she’s caught by humans shifting, her life changes when she’s charged with serving the pack for a year. During training, she runs into Zac, the Beta in training, and her biggest crush. While they’re drawn to each other, Zac needs to hurdle Astrid’s insecurities, and they need to keep each other safe when a new threat arrives to shatter their peace!
Holy smokes, what a way to begin the new series! While you don’t need to have read the previous True Mates books, you’ll find characters and events that took place during those stories, but this is a fantastic place to start reading any of Ms. Montgomery’s books! Astrid and Zac were amazing together, ones that had to conquer a few things within their relationship, as well as work together to save their families and friends. I loved that Zac acted on all of his animal urges to be with Astrid, I thought that was so sweet! Astrid felt inadequate compared to Zac and his family, but I loved how strong she was, how well she was able to fight to defend those she loved, and I loved her loyalty. They were a great match, a true mating, and I love that there’s so much open about what’s going to happen next with the major threat against everyone! Plus, the little twist at the end about their future roles in the pack was super cool and I was definitely cheering! This was a great read, a fun book, and I love that it’s just the beginning!

I love this world and i love that i get the chance to revisit it . I love the fact that i got to read the parents story and now i get to read the kids story and see how the parent couples are fairing. I don't know how much i loves i can write but i am excited about this book. Easy reading and a familiar world and an intresting story with exciting new characters. I can't wait for more.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book
A old enemy returns for a new generation in this new series by Alicia Montgomery. The children of the True Mates series are all grown up and getting stories of their own!!! I absolutely love that we are back in New York with the True Mates, it’s like seeing old friends. Montgomery starts the series with Astrid Jonassin the daughter of Meredith the wolf cat burglar and Daric the once evil turned good mage and Zac Vrost son of the New York clan’s Beta Nick and their human public liaison Cady. Growing up Zac and Astrid were on the outside of each other’s circles, but that didn’t keep her from having a crush, and as he was older he really didn’t notice her. Times they are a changing!!!! Astrid is definitely her mother’s daughter, if you have not read the first series you gotta, she is a restless spirit trying to find her place but she ends up in trouble and has to be punished by the clan’s law and that means working for her mother and Zac’s dad. Zac and Astrid touch hands for the first time and HELLO it’s electrifying!!!!! There is so much going on in their story but the thread that is about Zac and Astrid doesn’t get lost. Alpha’s are stepping down, new leaders are stepping up, old enemies returning, and lets not forget that True Mates finding each other means BABIES. I can not wait to see what is in store for this new generation and to see who will find love with who in the pack or if it will be someone new.
I'm so excited to read the true mate saga ones again. This time around we met the new generations fighting old enemies while finding their own happily ever after. ARC given by the author for an honest review
Last time we meet with true mates gang (with little kids of new generation) is in Connor's book, where Daric, our heroine father saw a premonition of the wedding btw Zach (the beta's son who formerly distrust him) with Astrid his youngest children. Now all grown up, Astrid current job is a bouncer in a gentlemen club. She save her stripper friend from her abusive bf and accidentally revealed her hybrid wolf/witch heritage. As a beta son, Zach was expected to be chosen as Lucas (Grant's son) beta once he ascend as alpha. He spent most of his time in England managing the office especially after the death of his grandfather. Both of them rarely run in the same circle, but Astrid have been crushing Zach since they were kids. When they meet again, Zach wolf is incredibly possessive of Astrid and vise versa. Astrid believe that Zach can never attracted to her just as she with him, causing the tension btw them. With old enemy emerged and start attacking them in public, can they found love amiss the chaos? I love love the new generation, Ms Montgomery didn't disappointed and deliver a story with a new breath. We can see in the saga, old scar runs deep within the former main characters and prejudices btw races still there. In my opinion it is up to the new generation with mix blood to pick up the slack. From the book, we also see the spark of potential true mates (can't wait for Lucas and Dee's turn). Thumbs up to the author.
I really enjoyed this story!! I loved the characters and getting to see the second generation this time around. This is the first book in the second generation series and it does stand alone. You could start reading this book without having read the books in the original True Mates series but if you have read them you will get a lot of enjoyment out of this one as well. I loved getting to see the parents and catching up with them so many years later. We get to see that they had peace for a few decades but now their children are grown and are going to have to deal with their enemies again. I loved getting to meet the second generation and actually getting to see personalities. This story was well written and drew me in from beginning to end. I felt that it set up the rest of the series well, as we are introduced to the fact that their enemies are back and looking to start another war with them. There was plenty of action along with the romance and relationship building between the two main characters. I loved Astrid and Zac throughout the story. I loved the banter between Astrid and Zac and the rest of the characters. It definitely kept me entertained and my attention the entire time. I'm super excited for the next book in the series and to see where we go from here. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I loved reading about the 2nd generation kids of True Mates. This is Zac (Nick & Cady' son) and Astrid's (Meredith and Daric's daughter) story.
Zac is just like is Dad, Nick, following the rules to a "T." That is until he sees Astrid again after all these years. He's back in N.Y. But Nick expects him to take his job as Beta of the clan now the the Alpha is stepping down. All Zac wants to do is work on the business side of things, not be like Nick.
Astrid has never followed through on anything: college and 18 jobs later, she's working as security for a gentleman's club. When she has to shift to protect herself and use magic, Grant punishes her to 1 year of servitude to the clan. In his security.
The two of them are inseparable, their chemistry is off the charts. But Astrid doesn't think that she's good enough for Zac.
When the mages return, she puts herself on the line to protect both Lucas and Adrianna, the 2 newest Alphas.
But Nick is happy with Zac for dating "that girl." He tells Zac only one side of their past, and leaves out the part where her dad saved Zac as a baby. It breaks them up because he believes his Dad before asking questions. When his mom realizes what Nick did, she sets Zac after Astrid.
But is it too late for them after he cruelly broke her heart?
I have been waiting not so patiently for the next generation of true mates to finally tell their stories and this first book did not disappoint. Zac and Astrid are the first pair and are joined by the original cast through out, the book is fast paced, quick witted and a joy to read. I do recommend reading the first series first however as you will get maximum enjoyment when you get to see beloved characters popping in and out. I did get a little muddled once or twice in the beginning, when so many new characters were being introduced, trying to remember who's related to who got a little tricky and would benefit from having a family tree printed either in the book or on the website, although it didn't actually detract from the story and gives me an excuse to re-read the first generation books as a refresher. Alicia Montgomery has a real talent for creating characters that feel so real you expect them to be walking down the high street and i literally cannot wait to see where this series leads and see how all the first gen have grown! I volunteered to read an advanced review copy of this book and I was not obligated to leave this review
Having read the original True Mates series, it was great to revisit beloved characters years later and see what they're up to now. Astrid being the child of Meredith and Daric has her growing up more or less on the outskirts of the group. It was interesting seeing how their parents relationships with the other characters in the series manifested themselves in the people their children are close to. We also see some new skills and unique talents the children of True Mates are have as well.
I really enjoyed the glimpses of the other characters we got to meet as well and will be looking forward to their books. This first book gave me a similar impression to the first book of the True Mates series where I wasn't extremely invested in the first couple but grew more interested in the other characters I met and wanted to see them have their own book.
Overall a really enjoyable read. I had a few issues with character decisions here and there but there are so may True Mate children I badly want to read a book for. A great series to read whether you have read True Mates or not (though more enjoyable if you know the backstory).
I volunteered to read an advanced review copy of this book and I was not obligated to leave this review.
Loved this so much. 2nd Generation books are just the best. You get to see old characters you love in a new way that you haven't seen them before. Can I just say that Meredith as a mother was great and so funny. If you haven't read the 1st Gen True Mates then do it. Astrid is Daric and Meredith's daughter and she is a lot like her mother o matter how much she denies it. Astrid is a security guard at a place called the Vixen Den and I kinda love that its called the Den, just like the bar in Alicia's other series (Blackstone Mountain) and her facebook group for fans.
Zachary Vrost is Cady and Nicks son and he is different to Astrid, in the sense that he has a stable job that he is good at, but the pair are similar because they both seem quite lost. Finding each other helps them to become the people they were meant to be and I think that's beautiful.
We also see some familiar Kids all grown up and there are so many potential books that I can not wait. Super excited for Adrianna's and Lucas's books.
Oh and the Mages are back! Did not see that coming. Looking forward to seeing the new generation and old fight them together.
I have only read one other book by this author. I found this book interesting, and full of the tie in situations to the one other book I have read. She is a writer that makes each book a stand-alone to read but then incorporates her other books as well. She has spun an entire world universe that spans all her books I have read so far, even though they aren't read in the same order as written.
Fated couples are used by many authors as a way to ensure romance in a story. This book showed the effects of true mates, however, it was brought up till the very end. You learn in this book that there is only one true way for them to know if they are true mates. I found myself looking for clues in the book to see if I could tell if they were true mates.
The story revolved around this poor country girl never figured she had would never have a chance with a rich boy. And a rich boy never realized that she even felt that way about the class separation being an issue. However, the ultimate test of if it was a great book was the ending. One of the most important decisions in a pack was given to Astrid, the poor country girl who earned that special place.
I voluntarily reviewed this book in return for an ARC. This is the first spin off book from the characters we met in the ‘True Mates ‘ series- the next generation. We meet Nick and Cady Vrosts son Zac and Darin and Meredith’s daughter Astrid. Zac is very driven, hr has an important job in London and has returned for a few weeks. Astrid on the other hand is drifting with no real sense of purpose. When they meet, sparks fly. He can’t look away, she can’t look away quick enough. I do not want to give too much of the story away but let’s say, the old enemies are back and things are going to get bad. The chemistry between the two characters is amazing. I loved the introductions to the other children too and can’t wait to hear their stories. You can read this if you haven’t read any of his authors books before but I would suggest that you read the True Mates series first to get the background. they are fabulous too.
Set about thirty years after the original True Mates series, this new series focuses on the children of our favorite couples and the passing of the torch to the next generation. Nick and Cady's son, Zac, is paired with Meredith and Daric's daughter, Astrid in this first book that does a fantastic job of catching us up with all the gang as well as establishing the new characters and the latest threat that our clan has to face.
There's a lot going on here, and for fans of the original series this is a must-read book. It's a standalone romance, but as with the author's other series there's an ongoing story arc that is developed across the books. All the tension, intensity, and steam that a reader could want is packed into an exciting and sensual love story. There are more than a few surprises, and a triumphant HEA with the author's signature True Mates flair. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Poof!!! Hot Electrical Sizzle!! From the moment Zac and Astrid meet there is magnetic current that seems to draw them to each other! Of course Astrid fights this pull because how come someone like Zac ever truly see her!! Zac and Astrid come from different ends of the social ladder even though they are part of the same clan!! Zac doesn't understand his obsession with Astrid and he doesn't understand how she can keep rejecting his advances; so he soldiers on in hopes of finally breaking through Astrid's walls. Astrid does all she can to push Zac away but he finally breaks down her barriers and the moment she finally accepts her fate Zac lets her down in a big way. Can true mates really conqueror all? Only one way to find out!!
I was drawn into the up and down dynamics of Zac and Astrid's relationship, and absolutely loved how they constantly were protecting each other like it was second nature to them. Beautiful story Alicia Montgomery; thank you for another amazing journey!!!
My first reaction when I started reading was to frown, because - whoopsie - I forgot some things that happened in True Mates series before. That's what I get when I go too long between re-reading a favorite series.
After that initial bump, I read and remembered more than I thought I would. This story didn't really ask you to know everything because it was explained so well, and I didn't find myself wanting to check details. They were already there.
I had to say that I missed this series so much. I missed the theme. I missed the life they all lead. Dangerous, but also funny. And romance is so beautifully placed that it was just so hard to put the book down.
Cannot wait to read the next book in the series. Although I do have a sudden wish to go an re-read all the books right away!

It is wonderful how she captures your attention right from the start of the book. It’s great to see the next generation taking over and doing their parents proud and to see old favorites still together. We meet the first of the next generation of True Mates with Astrid and Zac. This was a fantastic story of True Mates trying to fight what they feel for each other. It keeps you guessing what will happen next. Astrid breaks the Clan rule not to expose the Lycans to the humans Zac goes with Nick and Cady to the location where Astrid shifted in front of humans while trying to protect Petal and herself from being injured. Zac’s first sight of her is man trying to kill her. He becomes very possessive of Astrid and he doesn’t realize it.
The True Mates series was one of my favorites. So to say I was excited for this generation is an understatement. The first book come in with a bang. Zac and Astrid had an amazing story. The chemistry between them is on fire. When Astrid gets into a jam, she has to call in the Troops. Not only does that include all of our past favorites, but their offspring also. Action packed and fast paced. The Mages have returned and danger is everywhere. Try squeezing romance in there. Ms. Montgomery did it. I read this in one sitting, everything else took a back seat. This introduction of the 'children' is a promise of the wonderful books to come. It can be read as a standalone with a HEA. Can't wait to see who's up next. This my voluntary opinion of an advanced copy I received.
Astrid is a wolf but like to work away from the pack, she's had a few jobs in the last few years but now she happy working as a bodyguard at a Gentlemen's club. When one of the girls get hurt she changes to protect herself and has to call the pack to help. Zac has returned from over seas and his parents are trying to get him to stay instead of going back, he doesn't want to stay but when they get a call for help he tags along only to see a girl who is now a woman he used to know and is drawn to her like no other. Great start to a new series Two people drawn to each other but not know why and the past that comes back to haunt them in more ways than one which only promises to escalate in the following books can't wait.
