Alpha and Omega #7

The Cub and His Alphas

Rate this book
Twenty-three year old bear shifter, Daniel Borden had his life crash around his ears at the tender age of fifteen when his parents were killed in a car accident. Struggling to control his shifts during puberty, Daniel left the foster care home he'd been placed in the day he turned eighteen. Thankfully, his parents left him well provided for and he was able to realize his dream - owning a safe place to call his own. Now an international best-selling author, Daniel hides behind his computer, convinced his life is fine just the way it is. Unfortunately, his only vice - a love of wild blueberries - changes his life in ways he'd only dreamed of.

Zeke McIntyre and Ty Hollifield are two Kodiak bear shifters who've spent ten years on the road, looking for their elusive third. Determined to allow the hand of fate to guide them, they end up in a "blink and you miss it" town all because of a white picket fence. Deciding to take the time to stretch their legs and let their long suffering bear forms free, Ty and Zeke spend their days wandering about in their fur in the nearby forest and loving on each other the way mated bears do. Until a brief hint of an alluring scent in the air, guides them to the one they've been looking for.

The older Kodiaks arrival in Daniel's life brings out issues he'd never had to face head on before. Convinced by his mates to attend a writer’s conference in Roswell, and unwilling to let his mates down, Daniel has to face the fears that kept him hidden in his lovely house. Will he ever learn to trust the safety that could be found in his lovers' arms, or will he be going home alone?

The Cub and his Alphas is an MMM standalone story that includes minimal violence and some coarse language. Intimate descriptions of the three men together are also included so this book is suitable for adults only. This is a low angst, complete, sweet bear story, although the epilogue suggests a sequel with a secondary character.

Approx 47,000 words (147 pages).

This was short cute MMM paranormal novella featuring shy omega bear shifter and his two hot alpha mates. There was romance, protectiveness and overcoming one's own fears. While reading the book it felt very personal as if the author was speaking from the heart and it made it all the more sweet and endearing for me.

There was drama and bad guys but also love and fair bit of steam. I liked all the characters because they were balanced and relatable. Social anxiety and a bit of OCD were the most serious issues one of the MCs had to overcome or come to terms with and his two alpha mates were right there to help and guide him. Yes, there were misunderstandings that were straightened out, and in the end it felt that all the characters changed in some way to accommodate each others needs. I really liked the setting and how everything turned out in the end. Another lovely read for me!

I Get It

I have to give the author credit for telling a damn good story--on several fronts--while still taking time to throw some zingers in there about...well, read it and see.

It was honest, heartfelt, sexy, and moving.

No worries here. One of my favorite writers.

What more needs to be said?

2.5 rounded up (because I needed some sweetness). I'm a bit surprised this got such high reviews. It was a pretty standard MM shifter novel.

I'm always a bit wary reading a book where one of the MCs is an author. And, I was right to be wary. The MCs all go to an MM romance fiction conference and things get super preachy. And weird. It just came across so forced.
Also, I have no objections to pen names but:
...my secret is no worse or better than say ... someone pretending to be trans when they're not...

Nope. That's much much worse than a fictional bear shifter pretending he isn't. It is inexcusable to pretend to be trans (or LGBTQIA in general) if you're not. I'm not saying Oliver is condoning this but including that in the list of comparisons was just super icky and completely took me out of the story.

I don't really mind the general shifter tropes. But lampshading it felt like Oliver was trying to justify rather than just embracing it.

In saying that, I did think this was a nice, sweet story and sometimes that's what you need. I love poly stories and this book was just straight up sugar when it came to the triad. Daniel, Zeke, and Ty were all likeable.

Daniel's social anxiety felt plausible. I would have liked to see it explored a bit more - it felt a bit surface level.

This is the first book I've read by Oliver. I like the blurbs for some of the other books so I'll probably try again.

A short and sweet novella of a young bear shifter author being found by his two older alpha mates. They manage to persuade him to overcome his social anxieties and go to a MMR conference he has been invited to. Of course it is not all plain sailing and hiccups occur along the way to the conference and during.
Overall an enjoyable read and I definitely want to catch up with Morty and his wolf omega mate.

I wanted to like this more than I did. On the one hand, it was a cute shifter story. Very low angst factor. I liked all three of the MCs. Thought they had great chemistry. On the other hand the book was entirely too preachy. I also don’t like when an author brings real life people into the story. It comes across a bit gimmicky to me and always takes me out the story. Based on the comments before and after the story, I know this was a very personal story for the author and a bit of a catharsis to purge the negativity and anxiety in her life. Unfortunately, I read to escape and I just couldn’t fully immerse myself in this story. All that being said, I love this author and will continue to support her and read her books.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:
A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series
from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year),
it's like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok)
It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the
whole line, dismissed, repeat the class

First Lisa Oliver book I've read, though I have some unread in my kindle library. I liked it a lot. I am a big fan of fated mates and shifters. Daniel is cute and sweet, easy to connect with. Anyone with social anxiety gets his reluctance to venture outside, especially in big crowds. Ty and Zeke are perfect protective alphas. It's not all smooth Sailing but they work it out. I love that they TALK! Actually talk! So many books have conflicts that can be fixed by talking and they never do until it's almost too late and that can be frustrating. It's rather refreshing to have maturity in the relationship. Like yes, we have a problem, we're going to talk about it and not hide from it. Didn't realize how much that meant until I started this review. Kudos. Very sweet story, I loved the progression of their relationship. They are fated mates but their relationship showed growth. It wasn't perfect from the start. Writing has great flow to it. I will reread and I'm looking forward to the sequel.

A sweet read

This a lovely book with real issues, one of which is experienced by so many, anxiety.

I think it is dealt with in a measured and considerate manner.

Daniel is a sweet, loving man whose life was blighted by tragedy at a young age, which hampered his teens and gave rise to his severe lack of social skills/anxiety. This must be such a debilitating problem. I'm not the best at dealing with stress and strangers myself.

He pours himself into his work until one happy but scary moment changes his life.

Zeke and Ty literally burst upon the scene and scare their young cub away.

Both are good supportive men who are perfect for Daniel and they work together to help him and their relationship blooms and strengthens them because of that.

An entertaining story with a promise of more to come.

This is a lovely way to spend your time over the Christmas.

Lisa is an automatic go to author for me and I very much look forward to all her 'coming soons'.

2 Alphas; 1 Omega with a ton of social anxiety

I really enjoyed this story because whether you are an author or not there are people with different levels of social anxiety.
I have 3 children and have seen so many teens over the years battle social anxiety. It is so hard at any age but I find that it is so much harder when you are Dealing with kids and teens.
The unwavering support that Zeke and Ty show Daniel is something we all only pray to have with a love in our life.
Thank you for sharing with your fans something so personal to you. I love your writing. I have been gobbling it up in a binge-fest. But I have always felt author's lives, celebrity lives are personal. They can share what they want and readers have no right to demand that of them.
This story definitely hit a nerve for me.
I cannot wait to see what you have in store for Mortimer and his Omega.
Highly recommended!

DNF at 66%, and I really should have stopped sooner. As one of the MCs stated "I look for strong characters, a good plot and an easy to read writing style". Sadly, this book did not deliver in any of these fronts for me (also not on the erotica front). The characters were immature and unbelievable . The plot hitched and turned from one unnecessary and over the top drama to the other, and the writing style included too much telling instead of showing, too many internal and external monologues and not enough characters interaction and dialogue outside the bedroom. It was just exhausting to read. I'd recommend it only for fervent fans of the shifters trope.

Another great read in this series.

Lisa Oliver is one of my favourite MM author's, I love the humour that runs throughout the books especially the Gods Made Me Do It series ( if you haven't read them yet check them out there brilliant) anyway back to this book, it's book seven in the Alpha and Omega series and features two mature bears and a sweet innocent omega. Blueberries and a stalker feature in this book, which is mainly about a socially shy omega Daniel who meets his two Alpha mates Ty and Zeke in an unusual way and their journey to a writers conference. Morty is Zeke's brother who features quite a bit in this book and can't wait to read his story next. Recommended.

This is my first Lisa Oliver book and I can’t believe I’ve never picked up one of hers before. Shifter MM is a genre I read on occasion, usually I have to be in a certain mood, but the blurb for this one called to me so I thought ‘it’s been a while, why not?’
I’m totally blown away! I loved this book. I love the three main characters, and aw Daniel’s bear is adorable! I love the caring Zeke and Ty have for their little mate. I love the portrayal of Daniel’s social anxiety - perfectly done, not too subtle but also not too in-your-face.
All-in-all, a great book that made me feel much happier for reading it. Next!!

Good read

The whole cub thing creeped me out, yes Daniel is in his 20’s but for me a cub is a baby.
I love with this author you get so many different and unique characters. You automatically like Morty, and it’s neat how different Ty and Z are but they love and support Daniel even with his quirks. I’m always excited to read what this author offers. And I hope her the best, she stated being overtaxed and so many books to write. I pray she finds peace and strength to get them all written.

Blueberry-cub and the two bears; this menage is just right

PNR novella of an omega m/m romance writer with social anxiety meeting his fated alpha mates

The author brings her typical heat along with a wounded by but sympathetic omega, “biker” alphas with hearts of gold, and hurt/comfort themes (this time set in a romance genre convention). Fans of the author’s writing style and other works - insta/fated mates, caring alphas, cheesy/fluffy story (with sometimes uneven editing), and decent heat - should enjoy this sweet menage connection. The realistic (character and, to an extent, even plot) romance convention was of particular interest to me.

I don't know why, but I felt that this one had promise. A nice story, where one character is being carefully handled with understanding and love, and some good sex scenes. They were certainly hot enough and different enough that I didn't feel as though this was just another erotica. But then it hit some kind of wall, and the strong connection over a misunderstanding made me not like the two older men being the younger's mates. And yeah, the way they re-connected was sweet and sort-of made up for it but my feelings towards the older bear ones had changed too much. I couldn't re-like them again.

I have to say that I got really tired of Daniel jumping to a wrong conclusion and shutting his mates out of his life, only to regret his actions shortly thereafter. I don't really understand how Ty and Zeke weren't more hurt by how quickly Daniel assumed that they were like that.

Once Daniel got over himself though, I really enjoyed this book. And I can't wait to see Morty's mate in the next book.

Great and insightful.

Daniel's description of why he writes gives insight into Lisa Oliver's reasons and attitudes why she writes. Daniel's speach describes exactly what your books do for me. The worlds Oliver creates, the characters and their interpersonal relationships, and the in depth plots always help me escape my illness for a while. I've never been disappointed by any of her stories. This story is no exception.

A cute mmm shifter romance

Daniel is an omega bear shifter, shy and insecure since being orphaned at age 15. He avoids nearly all social situations and hides out at home supporting himself writing shifter romances. This is really Daniel 's story as his two mates, find, claim and help him to live and find joy out in the world. It is a heartwarming story with a little danger but lots of love and I highly recommend it.

A very entertaining read, with an infrequently used trope in the MM genre. Daniel is a self-publishing MM writer of shifter romance, and lives alone to allow his grizzly out. He chances on two Kodiaks, partner bikers, and the omega completes the triad. Oliver's plot takes them to a convention as their bond solidifies.
The settings, Daniel's cabin, the blueberry patch, the hotels get good descriptions. In the last third, support cast add color to the story. A very satisfying novel.

Another Winner!

Lisa delivered another great story with so much of herself included, I could feel her struggle with burn out and worry thru her character Daniel. I was so glad he worked thru his issues like I know Lisa did her own. I feel privileged to read Lisa's stories and eagerly await new books from all her series!

Fun

I had just finished a couple of serious theme books so was looking for something that held my attention and made me smile. This story filled the bill.

Daniel was adorable and smart but shy. Zeke and Ty were strong yet understanding of their young mate's issues. There were a couple of glaring editing missed but otherwise a smooth read.

Nice addition to A&O series

Daniel was a sweetheart if a character! Absolutely loved him. I didn't get a feel for Ty & Zeke like I did Daniel. There wasn't a whole lot of info about them. The author angle was a good one, and adding a well known author was a bonus. Overall it was a good story 3.5 rating because of the frequent errors.
