That became a pattern in my life. It was the way the chips fell. I'm destined to be that girl that fell for the wrong guy. If he was a liar and a cheat, I found him or he found me. It didn’t really matter how it happened, it just always did.
But when I met Jake, I thought he was different. He was just a guy trying to get by, much like me in a sense. He was happy with the little things in life...he made me feel safe and settled.
That was until I found out that his name, his life, and the man he pretended to be, were nothing but a fraud. He used me to get the answers he needed, and in the process, he managed to take my last ounce of hope and crush it.
I just wanted him gone. I wanted to forget the times we shared, the laughs we had. I wanted to ignore the fact that he’d so easily found a place in my heart.
Only there was one problem... I wasn’t allowed to forget.
I am reminded daily of him. Each morning, I have no choice but to look into the same, beautiful eyes he possessed. I see his smile and that same shade of dark melted chocolate hair that at one point, I loved running my fingers through.
Every single day I reminded of the fact that the father of my child is nothing more than a man that truly never existed.
I would have waited a lifetime to hear those words, but I’m glad I didn’t have to.
My Review:
While I haven’t read her entire body of work, of those books that I have read I have concluded that C.A. Harms excels in writing highly engaging and poignant NA romances with generous helpings of angst, scorching sensual steam, and irreverent and highly amusing humor. This observation continues forward although her current book was considerably lighter on the humor and heavier on the angst than her more recent offerings. While I often feel exasperated with an over-serving of angst and conflict, I adored Deception anyway, although I seem to be pouting some over her neglect of my appetite for comedic balance; I’m sure she will make it up to me in the near future.
This is the first book I have read by C A Harms and pleasantly surprised. It was emotional. It was heartbreaking. It was genuine.
Blair has been hurt many times by different people in her life. Her last boyfriend was a cheat and a junkie and nothing mattered to him more than getting another fix so when she meets Jake she is hit with instant lust and fantasizes about him constantly but she knows it will not go anywhere. They both reach a breaking point and act on the attraction they feel and they were blissfully happy being all up in each other. But eventually all good things must come to an end. Blair found out Jake is just like her ex and he has being lying to her from the beginning. She has been hurt enough and she can’t take it anymore so she leaves but she later finds out that she is pregnant.
If you are looking for a book where the guy will leave everything behind to be with his woman, this is it!
2 Stars because I'm feeling generous. Editing needed. SPOILERS!!! Stop reading if you don't want to know why I gave it 2 stars!! *** *** *** *** I hate books that have our H so in love and heartbroken because he lost the h that he's with someone else but picturing the h. Give me a break, after that I didn't give 2sh!ts. Plus, he becomes best friends with a ex-friend that repeatedly cheated on our h with her ex-bf.....crazy. You don't get over that type of betrayal. I've read a couple of books by this author before and the one book I loved she's yet to write book 2 in the series, so no more for me.
Both MC's didn't hold any appeal for me. After the initial betrayal, I lost interest in the way they had to dance through all kinds of issues to be together.
Maybe i'll get back to it later. I find that sometimes when there's too much drama, and the whole book is focused on it, whatever could be a semblance of life in the background dies. There is no sense of days, events, surroundings. Just drama...
First I love CA Harms, I've read so many of her books and I hadn't read one quite like this. At first it was chaotic, there were so many things happening at one time but I loved Blair. I loved her heart and wanted to protect her. The author has the ability to SUCK YOU IN to the story. I loved that it was told in dual POV, so you got to see what Jake's intentions were and how he was ready to change his life for her. I also think that she has a soft spot for guys in uniform #dontworrymetoogirl
Deception by CA Harms is a full length, standalone romance novel that captivated me from the first chapter. Meet Blair, she's a young woman, works as bartender and has a crush on her co-worker, Jake. Jake is a mystery man, he has his own agenda and it's not a good one regarding Blair. He has athe task to spy on her. When the truth comes out, the whole truth, Blair is devastated and together with her best friend she leaves the bar, the home and the region. She builds a new life and seems to get settled in over time. But then Jake shows up and he's in for the surprise of his life. Only Blair is hurt, deeply, deply hurt - with reason. My heart was breaking for her character. She was let down and betrayed, again and again. Deception is a great read, excellent written and beautifully thought out and told. I connected very easily with the characters and I loved the writing and the story. I give 4,5 stars.
How do I describe how I felt about this book. It was simply amazing and that's really not a strong enough word. CA went out of the box with this book. Money, drugs and sex never make a good combination. And when your selling for a crime family your life is always in danger. Do not steal from them and don't think you can get away. They will find you. Enter Blair and Jake. Blair is an innocent in all this mess. Yet she become a pawn. This book is really heart stopping and will keep you on the edge of your seat..5 stars isn't enough of a star rating
Falling for the bad boy. The wrong guy that turns out to be so much more.Yep another great book from C.A Harms. Freaking loved it from beginning to end. Page turning twisted emotional steamy enjoyable. Everything you want in a great story line. Gripping from beginning to end. I absolutely love Jake. I didnt like him at the beginning once I figured out what he was doing but once he did what was right he was a great guy. Great storyline with amazing characters . I am hoping to get Sadie's story. Highly recommend.
Blair is a twenty-something, young woman who bartends and has a crush on her co-worker Jake. Jake isn’t who he seems though, he has a hidden agenda to help his family and to spy on Blair to get information about her ex. What he didn’t expect was to fall for this girl and he would do anything to keep her safe from his family.
Blair hasn’t had things easy in life, she doesn’t trust many. When he co-worker Jake starts to show attention to her and makes her feel wanted, needed and just safe she can’t help but fall for the man. That is until she is deceived again.
The chemistry between Blair and Jake is off the charts. This story is steamy, it is sweet, it is suspense. You’ll laugh, cry and probably yell but it is worth the ride.
This is another fantastic book by CA Harms and it is one that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
Jake sometimes needs reminding to put clothes on, "...crawl from the bed. Looking back over my shoulder I find her staring at my *** as she bites her lip. “Put some pants on.” She attempts to hide the fact that she obviously enjoys the view." I liked this book, I loved Jake.
I'll have to admit, going in to this book, based on the blurb, I had a few pre-conceived notions about where this book was going. I knew, from the blurb, that it was a second chance romance, that the female character was somehow deceived by the male, betrayed by him, and that they had a child together. I had a few thoughts going on in my head. I mean, how many different things could a man do where he hides his identity from the female in question, and she still be willing to forgive him in the end?!? I was totally and completely wrong! What I was thinking was not even close to what actually happened! But by the time I realized what was going on, I was so engrossed in the story, I could not have put it down, if I'd wanted to! This book's story line was so totally different from anything I've read, I couldn't have predicted what was coming!
Blair has really bad taste in guys. She seems to always be attracted to the bad boys, the ones who are nothing but trouble. She didn't have a great childhood, isn't close to her family, and all that she really has is her two best friends. Just when she thinks her luck in life is changing, and she has found someone that may be the one for her, it all falls apart.
Jake isn't who he says he is. His life.....well, it isn't good. I can't say too much without giving anything away, but he knows Blair is a game changer. And he knows he wants her. But he also knows he doesn't deserve her.
This book is just amazing. I've read and loved books by this author before, but this book is on a whole new playing field. I was constantly surprised, kept on the edge of my seat. The chemistry between Jake and Blair was combustible, but their situation seemed so impossible. My emotions were all over the place, but I kept hope for them throughout. This book is a must read, and a new favorite!
WOW..... This author has excelled in my opinion with this book, It is beautifullywritten and the storyline flowed really well and was easy to follow, I definitely got emmersed into this journey with all these amazingly albeit some a little broken people, There is some heartbreakingly beautiful moments and definitely some heartwarming times in this book.
Jake and Blair's story is definitely something that needs to be read the journey is bumby, beautiful and absolutely with a few twists. I loved all the side peoples lives aswell during this adventure they were amazing to read with also alot of laughs, smile and some heartbreak.
I would definitely recommend this book and author to anyone who love an epic love story that is not clean or straight forward but is hard fought for. This is absolutely the exceptional quality that you expect from this author and more, just when you thought you got the best you could possibly get, nope now you have this. I hope you enjoy and love this book as much as I have. Happy Reading ♡
P E R F E C T! Secret baby it is!! Even though from the title i can figure it out, but nothing beats actually going through eh event. This is also what i LOVE, a story that keeps me interested and wanting more. This is a beautiful story of the wrong time turned beautiful! Blair may be young, but not stupid...well, she definitely knows how to chose them. After a string of terrible dates and men, she strives for a new beginning. What she finds is, herself falling for the sexy bartender manager where she works. When one nights decides her fate, she again promises to her unborn child that she will do everything possible to keep it safe and happy. What she didn't accouter for is the horrible tragedy that occurred with Jake Gunner. What she believes is all a lie, and Jake is back to prove himself and get his girl back. Well, Jake is in a huge surprise when he does find her. The epilogue had me tearing up, it was beautiful. Highly Recommended 5star!
I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but this book was so much more than I could've guessed.
Blair hasn't had the best track record with guys, but when she starts working with Jake their connection is instant and the chemistry is off the charts. Their moments together are sweet, sexy and you can almost see their future together on the horizon.
However, unbeknownst to Blair, Jake is not quite who he says he is. When Blair is hurt and finds out the he's a fraud, she leaves him and plans to try to forget all about him.
Fate has other plans when she winds up pregnant, and her baby is a mini-Jake.
What will happen if Jake tracks her down and finds out about his baby? Can he prove that he's a changed man? Will he be able to convince Blair to give him another chance, when she's already been betrayed so many times in her life?
I literally have no words in how to describe how magnificent this book is. CA Harms has written a book that will stay with me for quite some time. All the characters add to the story in their own way. And every single character within this story have their own HEA in one form or another. Blair and Jake have a bit of a whirlwind relationship. And then it all comes crashing down in a big, big way. But what I liked most was that Jake never gave up, and went on to be the man he thought Blair deserved. He just happens to be a sweet man born in to a terrible family. This book will have you hooked right from the start and take you on a journey like no other. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Blair really has the worst luck with men....but things are looking up. Jake and Blair have enough chemistry to to burn the bar where they are both working down and eventually give in to the attraction. Things with Jake are not as Blair believes and that is what takes off with this story.
I love the writing style and the story, I just didn't fall in love with Jake until almost the end. I felt Blair's reactions to be believable and even though I didn't like the actions of one of the characters and know they get a HEA I would like to read that story.
Overall a great addition to this authors catalogue
I love this book! This was definitely a binge read for me, I just couldn’t put it down. I’m sitting here, having just finished reading it and I’m so emotionally wrapped up in this story that I can’t stop thinking about it. Yep, I officially have a book hangover :-) Jake is amazing. I went through different opinions of him throughout this book but trust me, he’s a keeper! I was so drawn into this story that my heart didn’t just wrap itself around Jake and Blair, but the side characters as well. Sadie’s issues and Whitney’s fierce loyalty as well as that of her family just made this story so complete and full of different emotions. I give this a strong five stars!
If you follow my reviews you know I love CA Harms. And while I've devoured each and every book that she's written none were quite like this. Blair has the worst taste in men, as in these guys are not just jerks, her last put her life in danger. She takes a bartending job and crushes on her co worker Jake. The attraction is mutual but she's skittish after her last relationship. As things progress she thinks he's different, that is until she finds out he's not who he says he is. Jake while stuck in a situation he can't control is deceiving Blair but the lines blur. She goes from a job to someone he needs to protect from his family and that's where things get a little crazy. This book has everything. Sex, drugs, lies, betrayal, backstabbing and some serious chemistry. At times I wanted to punch Jake, he didn't always choose the right path but the ending, it was so worth the journey. I binge read this book, once I got a few chapters in I could not put it down. Loved it, loved the characters and writing.
CA Harms never disappoints. Deception is hands down one of my favorite books from her. It’s beautiful written and the storyline flows amazingly. It’s also out of the box for CA and I love that. Money, drugs, sex totally right up my alley.
Blair and Jakes journey is amazing. The twists and the turns that come at you will have you in the edge of your sets. Jake is the guy from the family everyone knows and fears. Blair is an innocent in everything that happens.
If I could give this book more then 5 stars I would
Blair is a woman who always picks the wrong guy. Working as a bartender she meets Jake, a guy that makes the women swoon, including Blair. They connect and their chemistry is off the charts. But Jake has a secret that could destroy what they have. Is Blair picking the wrong guy once again, or can they get past it all and get their happily ever after.
C.A. Harms does not disappoint. Deception is a book I could not put down. It's a definite page turner with everything you want in a suspenseful romance.
CA Harms has done it again!! I loved Deception, I was expecting something different and what I got was sooo much better!! Blair has never had a good home or family life. Blair just ended a two year relationship with her boyfriend who loved drugs more than her.. Dealing with that and trying to move forward she gets a good job. She meets Jake who seems perfect and he like Blair for who she is. This seen great until it isn't and Blair's world comes crashing down... Now living a new life with her trusted friends and the only family she knows Jake comes back hoping for some forgiveness and redemption.. Then he learns her secret what Blair was hiding. I loved the story how everything played out and the progression of things. Nothing was given, forgiveness doesn't happen instantly. Blair was so strong and held her ground, I was feeling so bad for Jake.. But I understood where she was coming from. What surprised me was Sadie.. I loved Deception!! Definitely recommend it!!
To begin here I am at a lost for words because I was so excited to read this novel by C.A. First, the story line of betrayal, lies and revenge is what pulled me in. Blair meets Jake when she starts working for him after her boyfriend leaves her in a bind. What she doesn’t realize is that Jake isn’t who he says he is. They have a few stolen nights with one another until all his lies come out of the darkness. With her life hanging in a world of fear she leaves to go back home. Jake sets out on revenge against those who hurt him and Blair. When he gets his revenge it’s about 2 year later, he finds Blair to make her his again. Blair isn’t the same girl and Jake isn’t the same guy so, can they find each other in all the betrayal and forgive. The story did pull me in with the blurb but once you get into the story there are just some things missing. It just fell flat, and I so didn’t want that to happen. Blair is a sweet girl with a heart of gold but when she gets betrayed too many times it makes her scared to take risk. Her character background was missing a lot of things and all I could gleam from her was that she loves with her whole heart. Jake background was a beacon of darkness and you could tell why he is who the story betrays him to be. The drama was there, and the suspense was there too. I just wanted more meat to it if that makes sense. It’s a quick read which is probably why some details were left out. I just wanted to more to the story just there was something missing.
